  • BIDS Helper 1.6 Beta Release (now with SQL 2012 support!)

    The beta for BIDS Helper 1.6 was just released. We have not updated the version notification just yet as we would like to get some feedback on people's experiences with the SQL 2012 version. So if you are using SQL 2012, go grab it and let us know how you go (you can post a comment on this blog post or on the BIDS Helper site itself). This is the first release that supports SQL 2012 and consequently also the first release that runs in Visual Studio 2010. A big thanks to Greg Galloway for doing the bulk of the work on this release. Please note that if you are doing an xcopy deploy that you will need to unblock the files you download or you will get a cryptic error message. This appears to be caused by a security update to either Visual Studio or the .Net framework – the xcopy deploy instructions have been updated to show you how to do this. Below are the notes from the release page. ====== This beta release is the first to support SQL Server 2012 (in addition to SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2008 R2). Since it is marked as a beta release, we are looking for bug reports in the next few months as you use BIDS Helper on real projects. In addition to getting all existing BIDS Helper functionality working appropriately in SQL Server 2012 (SSDT), the following features are new... Analysis Services Tabular Smart Diff Tabular Actions Editor Tabular HideMemberIf Tabular Pre-Build Fixes and Updates The Unused Datasets feature for Reporting Services now accounts for new features in Reporting Services 2008 R2 like Lookups and new features in Reporting Services 2012. Does it make a big difference if I get links to the actual keywords I'm after, or is it enough that these keywords are part of the written text?

    I have placed the facebook "like" and some other social bookmarking websites link on my blog, such as Google Buzz, Digg, Twitter, etc. I just noticed that it takes a while to load my blog page as it need to load the data from the social networking sites (such as number of likes etc). How can I place the links efficiently so that first my blog content loads, and meanwhile it loads data from these websites -- in other words, these sharing widgets should not hang my blog page while waiting for data from external sites?

  • Error from sudo update-grub

    I've installed Ubuntu 13.10 on a Lenovo yoga 13. In order to make the backlight work with the keys I've been following some instructions here: How do I get the brightness control working on a Lenovo Yoga 13? The process asks me to run update-grub, but this causes the following error: /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig: 27: /etc/default/grub: want: not found Which doesn't seem to come up hardly anywhere on Google - which is me pretty much stumped when it comes to grub!

  • Same sitemap submitted for .com and .co.uk domain

    Not to sure why I did this. But I submitted the same sitemap for our .co.uk and .com domain. Looking to put the .com domain on different hosting and create a new site for international customers using .com domain. Should I remove all urls in google webmasters for the .com domain, guessing this won't have a negative effect on .co.uk stuff and add robot.txt to make sure the .com domain is not crawled? Thanks

    My Google Chrome CR-48 started flaking out/rebooting and finally this message.  This post solved the problem quite easily. http://cr-48.wikispaces.com/Reseat+SSD+Cable Two hints: 1) you need to pull off the rubber feet to get at some screws. 2) the real problem is the little white clip under the cable.  Don’t worry about reseating anything, Just push the cable back on and the little white clip back up to snap in place and hold the cable.

    Hi guys, My personal website is currently getting a lot of spam comments at the moment, and most of them originate from Russia (I've used Google Analytics to identify the traffic, and a lot of the links link to Russian sites). As it's a pain to keep deleting this comments, I would like to ban people from there commenting or visiting the website. Is this possible? Also, the website is using WordPress. Many thanks!

  • How do I make my hosting detect _escaped_fragment_ and fetch the corresponding HTML? [on hold]

    I have an AJAX site and I'm using shebangs (#!) in my urls with the intention of then providing the correct HTML versions when google bots replace the #! with _escaped_fragment_. How do I go about routing/proxying/redirecting the url with _escaped_fragment_ to the corresponding html pages? I can't find documentation on this part of the process specifically, and my first thought was that I should be using a 301 or 302 redirect, but I was told that wasn't the case, albeit not given any more info.

    When searching the web for a solution to a particular problem, I often find a perfect solution posted on someone's blog, or in a public repository (GitHub, Google Code). Most of the time, the code has no copyright information, nor does the author mention any sort of attribution rules. I'm pretty sure short snippets are fine, but what if I copy a handful of classes verbatim (again, no copyright notices, TOS, attribution requests, etc...)? Am I under any legal obligation to the original author?

    Im trying to work out if generic programming was a functional programming feature which was then introduced into Java, C++ and C# or did the latter copy it from the functional programming languages like Haskell, Lisp, OCaml etc? Google is giving me lots on what generic programming is, but not where it originated. All I can see is that Ada implemented it early on. Would you class it as a functional programming technique?

    I found that GitHub does not allow you to use the "search" feature on forks (issues are still searchable, just not code). [screenshot] Are there any other cases where forks are treated as "inferior" or at least differently by GitHub? For instance, (assuming you haven't created a website specific to your fork), will forks still show up in Google search results, or will GitHub only provide results for the parent repository?
