  hi all, how can i set openjpa to flush before query. When i change some values in database i want to propagate these changes into application. • Android: Registering ContextMenu for a Custom ListAdapter

  Hi, I made a custom list adapter extending the Base adapter. Each item in the list has an imagebutton, 2 textviews and a button. I tried to add the context menu to the list so as to display some options for an item in the list. registerForContextMenu(getListView()); I used a MenuInflater object to inflate the context menu xml file. But on clicking the items in the list nothing shows up or the usual highlighting of the item of list on click isn't shown. Is it that the context menu doesn't work for custom list views? Any help would be much appreciated. Regards, Primal

• Full size image in ImageView

  Hi, I'm trying to draw an image in an ImageView, but i want it to be unscaled, with scrollbars as necessary. How can I accomplish this? Right now I just have a drawable set as the android:src of the ImageView in the XML. This autoscales the image to fit the screen width. I read that this might be because of the compatibility mode (developing for 1.5, testing on 2.1), but then I added <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> to my manifest, and nothing changed. Any clues?

• How to change current Theme at runtime in Android

  I've created a PreferenceActivity that allows the user to choose the theme he wants to apply to the entire application. When the users selects a theme, this code is executed: if (...) { getApplication().setTheme(R.style.BlackTheme); } else { getApplication().setTheme(R.style.LightTheme); } But, despite I've checked with the debugger that the code is being executed, I can't see any change in the user interface. Themes are defined in res/values/styles.xml, and Eclipse does not show any error. <resources> <style name="LightTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Light"> </style> <style name="BlackTheme" parent="@android:style/Theme.Black"> </style> </resources> Any idea about what could be happening and how to fix it?   There are few things not clear to me about ASP.NET MV2. In database I have table Contacts with several fields, and there is an additional field XmlFields of which type is xml. In that field are stored additional description fields. There are 4 classes: Contact class which corresponds to Contact table and is defined by default when creating LINQ classes ContactListView class which inherits Contact class and has some additional properties ContactXmlView class that contains fields from XmlFields field ContactDetailsView class which merges ContactListView and ContactXmlView into one class and this one is used to display data in view pages ContactListView class has re-defined some properties from Contact class (so that I can add [Required] filter used for validation) - but I get warning message: 'ObjectTest.Models.Contacts.ContactListView.FirstName' hides inherited member 'SA.Model.Contact.FirstName'. Use the new keyword if hiding was intended. ContactDetailsView class is also used in a form when creating new contact and adding it to database. I am not sure if this is correct way, and the warning message confuses me a bit. Any advise about this? Thanks, Ile

  I have just installed the lastest RC of VS2010, which for me represents a shift from VS2008. A new comment formatting feature that I was looking forward to appears to be missing. About 6 months ago I read a Scott Gu blog post that mentioned a new VS2010 feature that would format /// style method comment blocks into more readable formatted regions inline with other code. The Scott Gu blog did not provide a screen shot but I was expecting the VS2010 editor to remove the XML tags from the /// method comment block and render just the essential text comment. Was this feature pulled during the Beta, or is there an option switch urking somewhere?

• How do I drag and drop between two listboxes in XUL?

  I am trying to implement drag and drop between two listboxes. I have a few problems 1) I am not detecting any drag events of any kind from the source list box/ I do not seem to be able to drag from it 2) I can drag from my desktop to the target listbox and I am able to detect 'dragenter' 'dragover' and 'dragexit' events. I am noticing that the event parameter is undefined in my 'dragenter' callback - is this a problem? 3) I cannot figure out how to complete the drag and drop operation. "If the mouse was released over an element that is a valid drop target, that is, one that cancelled the last dragenter or dragover event, then the drop will be successful, and a drop event will fire at the target. I can't seem to detect the end of the drag in order to call one of the example 'doDrop()' functions that I find on MDC. • Data import wizard library for .Net?

  Does anyone know of a 3rd party data import wizard that can be embedded into applications? It should import from Excel, Access, SQLServer, csv, tab-separated flat file, XML, Oracle etc. We have a fixed data structure within our application and the user should be able to configure the wizard to match his/her import fields to our own data structure. The wizard should be a library of sorts – preferably a .Net type library. We may want to have it both web-based and desktop based (hence we may need an ASP.Net controls version and a Winforms version). We may also want integration with WPF and Silverlight. If there’s no UI wizard available, does anyone know of a non-UI library that supports easily configurable import from many, many different datasources?

• Attach data to Richtext using flex, mysql and php(newbie)

  I'm trying to attach data to a richtext field in Flashbuilder. The data is an html string in a mysql database and I'm connecting using php. The php script is just converting to XML. The connection works because I can easily dump the data to a datagrid and I can see the string. when I try to hook the data to a Richtext field I get "object CallResponder" so I am connected, but I'm not sure how to break it down so that it is just an html string for the text field. • Is it possible for competing file access to cause deadlock in Java?

  I'm chasing a production bug that's intermittent enough to be a real bastich to diagnose properly but frequent enough to be a legitimate nuisance for our customers. While I'm waiting for it to happen again on a machine set to spam the logfile with trace output, I'm trying to come up with a theory on what it could be. Is there any way for competing file read/writes to create what amounts to a deadlock condition? For instance, let's say I have Thread A that occasionally writes to config.xml, and Thread B that occasionally reads from it. Is there a set of circumstances that would cause Thread B to prevent Thread A from proceeding? My thanks in advance to anybody who helps with this theoretical fishing expedition. Edit: To answer Pyrolistical's questions: the code isn't using Filelock, and is running on a WinXP machine.

  Hello I have a problem search through the photo tag that facebook user got tagged. SELECT pid FROM subject = uid uid = are the friend of the logged in user. I have received a list of tagged for particular user since I wanted to count how many he/she being tagged, I counted on my server code after retreive an XML from facebook. I can see some of my friends got tagged 60, when I looked at his/her profiles, he/she has more than 60 around 200 tagged photos. Did I miss anything in my query? I created a dummy account and upload a photo including tagging but I receive the right number of tagged photos of his.

  I've been having the following problem with my GoDaddy's server. I am using JSPs with the JSTL Library. My /WEB-INF/lib folder contains the following libraries: jstl.jar standard.jar My JSP looks something like this: <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %> <p>Hello! <% out.print(System.getProperty("java.class.path")); %></p> But I keep getting the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application Any ideas as to why it is doing that? • How do I do a postback to a CGI service

  I am building a C# client for a CGI service (not sure what its called exactly). It accepts a bunch of XML and spits out a response. I have tested it straight in Firefox and it works (see below). Now I am not sure how to do this in C# code though? • Problem deploying servlets in JBoss 5.1 on eclipse.

  Yesterday I created a simple image servlet and attempted to deploy it. I am getting an error on JBoss startup, and then further errors on trying to invoke the servlet. I spent about 8 hours yesterday searching the web for answers and trying different scenarios. I ended up making my JBoss problems worse and then fixing them, but I never did get the servlet to work. As a matter of fact, I even added some code to one of my JSPs to attempt to instantiate the Servlet and call the doGet method. This actually works and outputs the correct debug sequences to the log indicating that the Servlet constructor and doGet methods were called. I also tried following some instructions for creating/deploying a very simple HelloWorld servlet, and that has exactly the same problem. Note that web.xml already contained a servlet put there by JBoss: org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.StatusServlet -- that Servlet does not give any errors in the log. As an experiment, I removed ".web" from that path and ended up getting exactly the same error as I'm getting on my Servlet. So it would appear that JBoss is not able to locate my Servlet given the specified path. Just for kicks, I've tried all sorts of other paths, like just plain MyImageServlet, controller.MyImageServlet, and more. Also, the servlet was originally named ImageServlet, but I attempted the name change thinking maybe there was some conflict with an existing ImageServlet. In all cases, the behavior is the same. After all of my research yesterday, I would say that this appears to be a problem with the JBoss servlet container, and I also learned that JBoss 5.1.0.GA should come bundled with a tomcat servlet container. I installed JBoss on my PC (Windows XP) myself less than 2 months ago (from jboss.org) and used it pretty much as is. Note that I am running on JDK 1.6, so I did use the jboss-jdk6 installation version. I am running on Windows, but I also deploy to a Linux virtual dedicated server. I deployed the current version of my program, including the servlet to the Linux box, but I get the exact same errors. I'm reluctant to just try reinstalling JBoss, since it's hard to place the blame on the JBoss installation when I get the same errors on two completely different installations. I am a bit suspicious of the bundled tomcat servlet container, because using eclipse, I haven't been able to locate any indication that there is a tomcat bundled into JBoss. I did locate servlet-api.jar in the JBoss common/lib directory. This is on the eclipse build path. One possibly useful note: I had previously used a standalone tomcat server for other projects using the same eclipse, so maybe it's some sort of eclipse issue? But, as I said, I do get the same errors when I deploy to the Linux server, and that deployment process just involves ftping files to the server and then putting them into the deployed war package and restarting JBoss.   We have this XML: <Summary> <ValueA>xxx</ValueA> <ValueB/> </Summary> <ValueB/> will never have any attributes or inner elements. It's a boolean type element - it exists (true) or it doesn't (false). JAXB generated a Summary class with a String valueA member, which is good. But for ValueB, JAXB generated a ValueB inner class and a corresponding member: @XmlElement(name = "ValueB") protected Summary.ValueB valueB; But what I'd like is a boolean member and no inner class: @XmlElement(name = "ValueB") protected boolean valueB; How can you do this? I'm not looking to regenerate the classes, I'd like to just make the code change manually.

• What add-in/workbench framework is the best .NET alternative to Eclipse RCP?

  I'm looking for a plugin-based application framework that is comparable to the Eclipse Plugin Framework, which to my simple mind consists of: a core plugin management framework (Equinox / OSGI), which provides the ability to declare extension endpoints and then discover and load plugins that service those endpoints. (this is different than Dependency Injection, but admittedly the difference is subtle - configuration is highly de-centralized, there are versioning concerns, it might involve an online plugin repository, and most importantly to me, it should be easy for the user to add plugins without needing to know anything about the underlying architecture / config files) many layers of plugins that provide a basic workbench shell with concurrency support, commands, preference sheets, menus, toolbars, key bindings, etc. That is just scratching the surface of the RCP, which itself is meant to serve as the foundation of your application, which you build by writing / assembling even more plugins. Here's what I've gleaned from the internet in the past couple of days... As far as I can tell, there is nothing in the .NET world that remotely approaches the robustness and maturity of the Eclipse RCP for Java but there are several contenders that do either #1 or #2 pretty well. (I should also mention that I have not made a final decision on WinForms vs WPF, so I'm also trying to understand the level of UI coupling in any candidate framework. I'm also wondering about platform coupling and source code licensing) I must say that the open-source stuff is generally less-documented but easier to understand, while the MS stuff typically has more documentation but is less accessible, so that with many of the MS technologies, I'm left wondering what they actually do, in a practical sense. These are the libraries I have found: SharpDevelop The first thing I looked at was SharpDevelop, which does both #1 and also #2 in a basic way (no insult to SharpDevelop, which is admirable - I just mean more basic than Eclipse RCP). However, SharpDevelop is an application more than a framework, and there are basic assumptions and limitations there (i.e. being somewhat coupled to WinForms). Still, there are some articles on CodeProject explaining how to use it as the foundation for an application. System.Addins It appears that System.Addins is meant to provide a robust add-in loading framework, with some sophisticated options for loading assemblies with varying levels of trusts and even running the out of process. It appears to be primarily code-based, and pretty code-heavy, with lots of assemblies that serve to insulate against versioning issues., using Guidance Automation to generate a good deal of code. So far I haven't found many System.AddIns articles that illustrate how it could be used to build something like an Eclipse RCP, and many people seem to be wringing their hands about its complexity. Mono.Addins It appears that Mono.Addins was influenced by System.Addins, SharpDevelop, and MonoDevelop. It seems to provide the basics from System.Addins, with less sophisticated options for plugin loading, but more simplicity, with attribute-based registration, XML manifests, and the infrastructure for online plugin repositories. It has a pretty good FAQ and documentation, as well as a fairly robust set of examples that really help paint a picture of how to develop an architecture like that of SharpDevelop or Eclipse. The examples use GTK for UI, but the framework itself is not coupled to GTK. So it appears to do #1 (add-in loading) pretty well and points the way to #2 (workbench framework). It appears that Mono.Addins was derived from MonoDevelop, but I haven't actually looked at whether MonoDevelop provides a good core workbench framework. Managed Extensibility Framework This is what everyone's talking about at the moment, and it's slowly getting clearer what it does, but I'm still pretty fuzzy, even after reading several posts on SO. The official word is that it "can live side-by-side" with System.Addins. However, it doesn't reference it and it appears to reproduce some of its functionality. It seems to me, then, that it is a simpler, more accessible alternative to System.Addins. It appears to be more like Mono.Addins in that it provides attribute-based wiring. It provides "catalogs" that can be attribute-based or directory-based. It does not seem to provide any XML or manifest-based wiring. So far I haven't found much documentation and the examples seem to be kind of "magical" and more reminiscent of attribute-based DI, despite the clarifications that MEF is not a DI container. Its license just got opened up, but it does reference WindowsBase -- not sure if that means it's coupled to Windows. Acropolis I'm not sure what this is. Is it MEF, or something that is still coming? Composite Application Blocks There are WPF and Winforms Composite Application blocks that seem to provide much more of a workbench framework. I have very little experience with these but they appear to rely on Guidance Automation quite a bit are obviously coupled with the UI layers. There are a few examples of combining MEF with these application blocks. I've done the best I could to answer my own question here, but I'm really only scratching the surface, and I don't have experience with any of these frameworks. Hopefully some of you can add more detail about the frameworks you have experience with. It would be great if we could end up with some sort of comparison matrix.

• Copy Structure To Another Program

  Long story, long: I am adding a web interface (ASPX.NET: VB) to a data acquisition system developed with LabVIEW which outputs raw data files. These raw data files are the binary representation of a LabVIEW cluster (essentially a structure). LabVIEW provides functions to instantiate a class or structure or call a method defined in a .NET DLL file. I plan to create a DLL file containing a structure definition and a class with methods to transfer the structure. When the webpage requests data, it would call a LabVIEW executable with a filename parameter. The LabVIEW code would instantiate the structure, populate the structure from the data file, then call the method to transfer the data back to the website. Long story, short: How do you recommend I transfer (copy) an instance of a structure from one .NET program to a VB.NET program? Ideas considered: sockets, temp file, xml file, config file, web services, CSV, some type of serialization, shared memory
