Cross browser div center alignment using CSS

What is the easiest way to align a div whose position is relative horizontally and vertically using CSS ? The width and the height of the div is unknown, i.e. it should work for every div dimension and in all major browsers. I mean center alignment. I thought to make the horizontal alignment using: margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; like I did here. Is this a good cross browser solution for horizontal alignment ? How could I do the vertical alignment ?

HTML CSS two columns

If my HTML says something along the following <div class="container"> <div class="element"> </div> <div class="element"> </div> [...] <div class="element"> </div> </div> is it then possible to align those elements as if they were in a two-column table? I.e. with 7 elements there would be 4 rows, with the last row only having one element. (The elements themselves have NO special classes or ids like right,left,etc.)

Colgroup in ffox/chrome

I am testing the <colgroup> tag on a 5 columns table, with a style attribute. I can't seem to make it work on firefox 3.6/chrome 5 tho, and this is when I started searching for the reference on w3c. It seemed like my code was perfectly fine, but looking at the w3c editor I noticed not even that was working. Only IE8 seems to work correctly, opera 10.51 ignores the style tag but applies the align tag correctly, while ffox and chrome seems to ignore colgroup completely. So what am I (and w3c) doing wrong? Was colgroup deprecated and I missed it?

How to resize a flash animation to fit HTML container?

Hi there, I have a flash animation with the size of 1280x1024 and I want to embed it into an HTML file. I want the flash file to be displayed in 800x600. jqGrid formatter and sortable column - doesn't sort

I am using a custom formatter for my jqGrid columnModel and I can't get sorting to work with formatter functions. Increasing the width of the autocomplete extender list

I have an ASP.NET AJAX autocomplete extender with CompletionListCssClass=autocomplete_completionListElement : .autocomplete_completionListElement { width:500px; margin : 0px!important; background-color : inherit; color : windowtext; border : buttonshadow; border-width : 1px; border-style : solid; overflow :auto; height : 200px; text-align : left; } But for some odd reason the width of the auto complete list always takes up the width of the textbox even when I set the width to 500px. Is there a way to fix this?

Opening a text file in browser - error on server

Justified navigation buttons

I'm trying to create the primary navigation menu for a website that will have a variable amount of primary menu items. The navigation bar is horizontal and has a width of 738px. I would like to have the leftmost item 18px from the left and the rightmost item 18px from the right edge of the element, with the other menu items spread evenly between them. I'm using a tableless layout. So far I haven't been able to make it work exactly like I want. Setting margin: auto doesn't seem to help, and I can't keep the 18px margin on both sides using a table. One idea was to use text-align: justify but it doesn't justify single lines. Is there a simple or less simple way of doing this, or am I going to have to ask the AD to relax his visual requirements?

How to preserve hyperlink when submitting via php form into MySQL

Hi All, I've created a form that stores free text fields into a MySQL database. All works fine and the data is displayed back as intended when viewed. Except for one niggle. In an attempt to prevent malicious attacks I have used mysql_real_escape_string to remove any unwanted code from the input. However, I need to be able to preserve hyperlinks and basic html. For example, I want to store the following: <p align="left">Please follow this <a href="link.html">link</a></p> But the link is being stored as \"link.html\" as the quotes are being escaped. jqgrid - edit form field combobox not defaulting to selected row value after first edit

i am using jqgrid with asp.net-mvc. I have an edit form (using jqmodal) which works great but for some reason one combobox field doesn't default to the current selected row after the first time i bring up the edit form. the weird thing is that i have many other comboboxes which work fine every time and i don't see any real difference. here is an example of the field that doesn't work: { name: "TechOwner", index: "TechOwner", width: 70, editable: true, edittype: "select", editoptions: { dataUrl: "/Person/GetSelectData" }, editrules: { required: true} }, and here is a field that works fine: { name: "FundingType", index: "FundingType", align: "left", width: 25, editable: true, edittype: "select", editoptions: { dataUrl: "/Project/FundingGetSelectData" }, editrules: { required: true} }, the dropdown is getting populated with all options (including the current selected row option) but its just defaulting to the top item) instead of one that matches the current row. is there anything to look out for here that may cause this behavior?

How do you change the style of cell in a JQuery.DataTable?

Hello fellow coders, I have a question about setting the style attributes for a data cell in the jQuery.DataTable. I was able to set the width for each column when initializing the dataTable using the following: oTable = $('#example').dataTable( { "aoColumns" : [ { sWidth: '40%' }, { sWidth: '60%' } ] } ); However, now I want to change the alignment for the second column like so: style="text-align: right;". Hi, Is it possible to make a small box (which will be a row element in a list for me) with an icon in the upper right corner, and text wrapped around it? CPU and Data alignment

Dear All, Pardon me if you feel this has been answered numerous times, but I need answers to the following queries! Why data has to be aligned (on 4 byte/ 8 byte/ 2 byte boundaries)? Here my doubt is when the CPU has address lines Ax Ax-1 Ax-2 ... A2 A1 A0 then it is quite possible to address the memory locations sequentially. So why there is the need to align the data at specific boundaries? How to find the alignment requirements when I am compiling my code and generating the executatble? If for e.g the data alignment is 4 byte boundary, does that mean each consecutive byte is located at modulo 4 offsets? My doubt is if data is 4 byte aligned does that mean that if a byte is at 1004 then the next byte is at 1008 (or at 1005)? Your thoughts are much welcome. Thanks in advance! /MS
