  i have done a simple c# website that have a lot of pics (3000+). i want to publish the full website online. all i know is that i have to first buy a domain name, and then buy some space on a webhosting server. could anybody guide me? how much does a domain name usually cost? and also how should i upload the website on a hosting server? i mean should i upload the full code?

• online to do list manager with subtasks

  I'm looking for an online task list tool, what I absolutely need is the infinite number of subtask levels, because that's how my mind works. I don't need collaboration. There are a lot of great to do list sites out there, but for some reason most of them have only one subtask level or no subtasks at all. I know about todoist, but its interface doesn't work for me. There must be many more, I guess. Links to desktop tools with the feature are also appreciated as long as they are cross-platform.

• Books and resources for Java Performance tuning - when working with databases, huge lists

  Hi All, I am relatively new to working on huge applications in Java. I am working on a Java web service which is pretty heavily used by various clients. The service basically queries the database (hibernate) and then works with a lot of Lists (there are adapters to convert list returned from DB to the interface which the service publishes) and I am seeing lot of issues with the service like high CPU usage or high heap space. While I can troubleshoot the performance issues using a profiler, I want to actually learn about what all I need to take care when I actually write code. Like what kind of List to use or things like using StringBuilder instead of String, etc... Is there any book or blogs which I can refer which will help me while I write new services? Also my application is multithreaded - each service call from a client is a new thread, and I want to know some best practices around that area as well. I did search the web but I found many tips which are not relevant in the latest Java 6 releases, so wanted to know what kind of resources would help a developer starting out now on Java for heavily used applications.   I am currently using Diskpart to accomplish these functions, but i would like to be able to use P-Invoke and not have to shell out to an external process in my C# app. The example Diskpart scripts are: //Online a disk Select disk 7 disk online // Reset GPT Identifier select disk 7 UNIQUEID DISK ID=baf784e7-6bbd-4cfb-aaac-e86c96e166ee I tried searching pinvoke.net but could only find functions that dealt with volumes, not disks. Any idea on how to accomplish these diskpart commands using Pinvoke?

It would be helpful if the book covered: The software development process (requirements, design, coding, testing, maintenance) Testing roles (who performs each step in the process) Testing methods (white box and black box) Testing levels (unit testing, integration testing, etc) Testing process (Agile, waterfall, spiral) Testing tools (simulators, fixtures, and reporting software) Testing of embedded systems The goal here is to find an easy to read book that summarizes the best practices for ensuring software quality in an embedded system. It seems most texts cover the testing of application software where it is simpler to generate automated test cases or run a debugger. A book that provided solutions for improving quality in a system where the tests must be performed manually and therefore minimized would be ideal.

  I am well aware of this previous question here and have heard great things about those books. I actually bought two of them, Effective Java and Java in a Nutshell as an early Christmas present. I am looking for a good Java book, or books, to further continue my understanding of Java from a recent college graduate point of view. I have learned Java in college and would consider it to be the language I am most comfortable with. Can anyone recommend a good "intermediate" Java book for a situation like mine? • Advanced Java book in the lines of CLR via c# or C# in Depth?

  I want to learn about how things work in depth in Java. Coming from a c# background, there were a couple of very good books that go really deep in c# (C# in depth, CLR via c#, just to name the most popular). Is there anything like that in Java? I searched it up on amazon but nothing seemed to go that deep in Java as the two above go in c#. I don't want to know more about specific classes, or how to use this library or that other library, I want to learn how the objects are created on memory, how they get created on the stack, heap, etc. A more fundamental knowledge, let's say. I've read some chapters of Effective Java and The Java Programming Language but they don't seem to go so deep as I'd want them to go. Maybe there are other people that know both c# and Java that have read any of the referred books and know any that might be useful? Thanks

• Good book suggestions for building enterprise software

  Enterprise software are built using technologies/softwares/terminologies/APIs such as EJB, JBoss, Seam, Hibernate(JPA), Maven, Eclipse, Spring, JTS, JMS, JNDI etc. I know there are great books out there for each of these individually, however can someone suggest a book or two that covers all (or most of) these topics in lesser detail and gives examples of how these are integrated? I have intentionally left the client side stuff out because its highly unlikely a single book would cover that much. If anyone knows of a book (or books) that cover most of or various combinations (like EJB, Hibernate, Spring and Seam) of these technologies, please do suggest the same. The idea is not to become an expert in all however know about them in reasonable detail and why each one is required.
