    I'm running some lengthy video encodes using the Handbrake command line interface. After all my encodes are done, I would like to have the PC speaker beep, as I usually turn my large external speakers off. On Linux I would install the "beep" package, but so far I haven't found such a program for Windows 7.     I have a file that I've pulled from a DVD that is apparently in AC3 5.1 format. The extension is .AC3 and it opens an plays in QuickTime, VLC etc. What I want is each individual channel in a separate file, but I can't seem to find any tools that will allow be to do that. Is there a way to split the file I have, or alternatively is there a way to pull the audio streams from a 5.1 DVD?

    Drive 0, Partition 1 can't be deleted or formatted, at least by using the HD drive bay and attempting a delete or format with the 32-bit Win 7 CD. Most of my data is still on it and available for read/write (where the drive isn't occasionally pocked with "unrecoverable" or "corrupted" files). I've just never heard of a condition where the HD cannot be formattable. I now just have a very expensive backup drive that's got Swiss cheesed areas. The thing doesn't accept a Windows 7 repair or reinstall either.

    hi all, i was wondering if it's possible to run soulseek as portable on an external hd? the main problem is that soulseek is using local paths to "documents and settings" which means it can't be portable unless i'm copying those files every time. i've tried RegRapper but it seems that it's not possible to map the "document and settings" folder to the external hd. any ideas how it could be done? thx

    Dear all, I have written a data DVD by k3b and now that I paste DVD on my system I have limitation in order to read and write on it's folders. I tried to set their permission but it's not possible. I mean that when I set File access to Read and write and press Apply permission to enclosed files botton, after a few seconds my setting (Read and write) will be disappeared and it returns to ---.   • NTFS External Drive takes too long to takes data in Mac ?

    I've an Seagate 500 GB external HD (NTFS). To read/write it on Mac (OSX 10.6.2) , I've tried MacFUSE and NTFS-3G to write my HD on Mac. Though I could be able to see the hard drive, it takes too long to see the contents like this is this normal ? also the data transfer takes too long time and the hard disk becomes too hot . Any suggestions are most welcome.

  • Can Linux play HDMI 1.4a 3D stereoscopic content?

    I'm aware that there are no Bluray players for Linux but I'm wondering if it's possible to play Full 3D HD (1080p, Side-By-Side) MKV files (or Bluray BDMV folders, etc). Full 3D HD files are actually two 1080p frames "side-by-side" so the effective resolution is 3840x1200. In order to play these properly the software needs to switch to TV into 3D mode (or however HDMI 1.4a works). I don't think simply playing the 3840x1200 resolution file will work so are there any options out there?

I highly doubt it's my DVD drive because this machine work fine before the install process. The DVD rom work. Is there a work around for this problem? edit: this is the problem that i'm having.     I bought a Lenovo 430K with Windows 7 Home Premium and upgraded it to Windows 8 Pro. I created a DVD from which I installed the Windows 8 Pro upgrade. I'm underwhelmed with Windows 8, however. I want to install Linux as the host OS and run Windows 8 Pro as a guest OS. Will the Windows 8 Pro DVD that I created install Windows 8 Pro in a virtual machine, or would that virtual machine have to have Windows 7 installed first in order to install the upgrade?

    i'm having a very strange problem: i'm running win7 64bit on my laptop - i hooked an external HD via usb3. when saving something in certain applications (eg. notepad), the file dialog pops up then the whole system is freezing .. like applications won't react anymore, also taskmanager, so i can't terminate anything. i think it's the external HD which is powering down after a while. anyone who knows this problem and can tell me how to fix it? thanks

    I'm stuck between ´eVGA GTX 550 Ti 1GB Super OC´ and ´eVGA GTX460 SE 1GB SuperClocked OC´. I know that 460 is better in performance, but does the 550 Ti has any newer feature, which makes it better? I'll mostly use it for HD movies and HD gaming (skyrim, la noire).     I've already tried fsck.hfsplus from hfsprogs, which doesn't do anything at all, and gparted (doesn't work with LVM). Are there any other ways to do that? If all else fails I have OSX install DVD, but I'm not sure if its installer would see a LVM partition (and running it just to check that would be quite troublesome, as I don't have a DVD drive ATM).

    When we design a database table for a DVD rental company, we actually have a movie, which is an abstract idea, and a physical DVD, so for each rental, we have a many-to-many table with fields such as: TransactionID UserID DvdID RentedDate RentalDuration AmountPaid but what about with virtual goods? For example, if we let a user rent a movie online for 3 days, we don't actually have a DVD, so we may have a table: TransactionID UserID MovieID RentedDate RentalDuration AmountPaid should we create a record for each instance of "virtual good"? For example, what if this virtual good (the movie) can be authorized to be watched on 3 devices (with 3 device IDs), then should we then create a virtual good record in the VirtualGoods table, each with a VirtualGoodID and then another table that has VirtualGoodID DeviceID to match up the movie with the DeviceIDs? We can also just use the TransactionID as the VirtualGoodID. Are there circumstances where we may want to create a record to record this "virtual good" in a VirtualGoods table?
