  • C# string equality operator returns false, but I'm pretty sure it should be true... What?!

    I'm trying to write a unit test for a piece of code that generates a large amount of text. I've run into an issue where the "expected" and "actual" strings appear to be equal, but Assert.AreEqual throws, and both the equality operator and Equals() return false. The result of GetHashCode() is different for both values as well. However, putting both strings into text files and comparing with DiffMerge tells me they're the same. Additionally, using Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes() on both values and then using SequenceEquals to compare the resulting byte arrays returns true. The values are 34KB each, so I'll hold off putting them here for now. Any ideas? I'm completely stumped.

  • How do I submit really big amounts of data to a form?

    I have an HTML from that's posting a really big amount of data which is eventually being saved into an SQL Server 2005, the form is as follows: <form name="frmForm" method="post" action="saveData.aspx"> the target page takes the content of a control within the form and saves it to the database through a normal SQL insert statement. However only a portion of the data is being saved. The field in the database is an ntext. Should I use a different field? Or is something happening while I'm transferring from one page to another? Or even still there's something happening when I'm sending the really big SQL statement through c# in saveData.aspx?

  • Do you bother to write a pretty error page?

    So, everyone is really used to the errors that PHP gives you. They look kind of like this: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2 bytes) in /path/to/file(437) on line 21 My question is, do you put in the time to make your error pages more useful? I find that I am able to debug a lot faster using my own error page: I find this to be a lot better than the PHP errors because it gives me a stack trace, the usual error message, along with the actual location of the error, and more. Also, are there any downsides from creating your own development error pages. Obviously you wouldn't want to have a user see this page, but what about during development?

    Hi, I'm having trouble doing the following: I have a big PDF file that I converted to postscript (for commercial printing). The resulting file is too big to be processed by the printer (machine). I've been trying to find a way to either: Convert from the original (many pages) PDF file to many Postscript file (one postcript file per PDF page in original PDF file(. Convert from PDF to PS (or even EPS). - I managed to do this Then split the PS file into a collection of smaller files. I've tried using Ghostscript, but it is all gibberish to me. Thanks. PS. If you have a good GS tutorial (for dummies?), please share the link.

  • Customizing Flowcharts in Oracle Tutor

    Today we're going to look at how you can customize the flowcharts within Oracle Tutor procedures, and how you can share those changes with other authors within your company. Here is an image of a flowchart within a Tutor procedure with the default size and color scheme. You may want to change the size of your flowcharts as your end-users might have larger screens or need larger fonts. To change the size and number of columns, navigate to Tutor Author Author Options Flowcharts. The default is to have 4 columns appear in each flowchart, but, if I change it to six, my end-users will see a denser flowchart. This might be too dense for my end-users, so I will change it to 5 columns, and I will also deselect the option to have separate task boxes. Now let's look at how to customize the colors. Within the Flowchart options dialog, there is a button labeled "Colors." This brings up a dialog box of every object on a Tutor flowchart, and I can modify the color of each object, as well as the text within the object. If I click on the background, the "page" object appears in the Item field, and now I can customize the color and the title text by selecting Select Fill Color and/or Select Text Color. A dialog box with color choices appears. If I select Define Custom Colors, I can make my selections even more precise. Each time I change the color of an object, it appears in the selection screen. When the flowchart customization is finished, I can save my changes by naming the scheme. Although the color scheme I have chosen is rather silly looking, perhaps I want others to give me their feedback and make changes as they wish. I can share the color scheme with them by copying the FCP.INI file in the Tutor\Author directory into the same directory on their systems. If the other users have color schemes that they do not want to lose, they can copy the relevant lines from the FCP.INI file into their file. If I flowchart my document with the new scheme, I can see how it looks within the document. Sometimes just one or two changes to the default scheme are enough to customize the flowchart to your company's color palette. I have seen customers who have only changed the Start object to green and the End object to red, and I've seen another customer who changed every object to some variant of black and orange.   • double-click does not open the default program

    I installed Ubuntu 12.04, with texlive-full and texworks. When I double-click a .tex file in Nautilus, it pops up a Do you want to run "xxxxxxxx.tex", or display it contents? "xxxxxxxx.tex" is an executable text file. Run in Terminal Display Cancel Run If I choose Display, it opens texworks. How can I make it open without seeing the above conversation window? By the way, is .tex file indeed an executable file? ADDED Just for the case, my ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file looks like the following: [Default Applications] text/html=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/http=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/https=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/about=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/unknown=google-chrome.desktop text/x-tex=texworks.desktop x-scheme-handler/mailto=google-chrome.desktop [Added Associations] text/x-tex=texworks.desktop; text/x-bibtex=jabref.desktop;gedit.desktop; I observe texworks are both up and down. Should I remove one? ADDED This does not happen with all .tex files. In fact, I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 under Virtual Box with Windows 7 host. I have my Dropbox account synced with the Windows 7 host, and I access files in Dropbox in Ubuntu through Virtual Box's shared folder functionality. (I didn't install Dropbox client in Ubuntu.) Files in Dropbox are owned by root with group vboxsf. My personal account is in the group vboxsf. It seems that I have to uncheck the option for "executable", but I have all my .tex files in the Dropbox shared folder. Would there be any workaround?

So, I have this link: www.site.com/category/green-cars Here are the GREEN cars TITLE: A Big green car INTRO: this is a great big green car. But then I have this link: www.site.com/category/big-cars Here are the BIG cars TITLE: A Big green car INTRO: this is a great big green car. So essentially - for every item of content, header and the intro sentence is the same regardless of the category the item appears in. Will a search engine penalise the site for having the same content in this way? I've looked at canonical links, but I don't think this is relevant here. All my content points to the same page - but the content may appear in multiple categories first. Or am I worrying about nothing? Thanks.

    I am trying to make a WCF service over basicHttpBinding to be used over https.   • What guidelines should be followed when using an unstable/testing/stable branching scheme?

    My team is currently using feature branches while doing development. For each user story in our sprint, we create a branch and work it in isolation. Hence, according to Martin Fowler, we practice Continuous Building, not Continuous Integration. I am interested in promoting an unstable/testing/stable scheme, similar to that of Debian, so that code is promoted from unstable = testing = stable. Our definition of done, I'd recommend, is when unit tests pass (TDD always), minimal documentation is complete, automated functional tests pass, and feature has been demo'd and accepted by PO. Once accepted by the PO, the story will be merged into the testing branch. Our test developers spend most of their time in this branch banging on the software and continuously running our automated tests. This scares me, however, because commits from another incomplete story may now make it into the testing branch. Perhaps I'm missing something because this seems like an undesired consequence. So, if moving to a code promotion strategy to solve our problems with feature branches, what strategy/guidelines do you recommend? Thanks.

I need him not to be able to: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions I would like him to still be able to: install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc/ Other Standard Setups would be happily considered I've never really set up a good sudoers file, so simple example setups would be very useful, even if they're only somewhat similar to the settings that I'm hoping for above. Edit: I have not yet finalized permissions, standard, useful sudo setups are certainly an option, the lists above are more what I'm hoping I can do, I don't know that that setup can be done.

    I have MySQL replication set up in production as follows: DB1 - DB2 DB1 - BAK Where DB2 and BAK are slaves to DB1. All 3 servers are in sync (0 seconds behind the master) and have 30+ GB of data. I'd like to put the servers in a new master-slave configuration as follows: DB1 - DB2 - BAK What is the best way to change the master host on BAK? Is there a way to avoid having to stop the slave thread on DB2 and getting a mysqldump for BAK (a 5-6 hour processes) ?

  • Windows 8.1 wants to format a USB stick with an unusual but valid GPT partitioning scheme, why?

    I have a USB stick formatted with GPT partitions. Some of the partitions are ext2, some are ext4, some are custom and funky. However, there is also a standard EFI partition, and a standard vfat partition. In Windows 7, both the EFI partition and the standard VFAT partition are visible and mount normally. But Windows 8.1 prompts to reformat the drive when it's inserted. I'm not surprised if Win 8 hides the EFI partition, but I didn't expect it to prompt for reformatting. I want to leave existing partitions alone, but have a VFAT partition that Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 will mount and display normally. Exactly how does Win 8 decide if a device needs to be formatted?

    I want to cluster texts for a news website. At the moment I use this algorithm to find the related articles. But I found out that PHP's similar_text() gives very good results, too. What sort of algorithms do "the big ones", Google News, Topix, Techmeme, Wikio, Megite etc., use? Of course, you don't know exactly how the algorithms work. It's secret. But maybe someone knows approximately the way they work? The algorithm I use at the moment is very slow. It only compares two articles. So for having the relations between 5,000 articles you need about 12,500,000 comparisons. This is quite a lot. Are there alternatives to reduce the number of necessary comparisons? [I don't look for improvements for my algorithm.] What do "the big ones" do? I'm sure they don't always compare one article to another and this 12,500,000 times for 5,000 news. It would be great if somebody can say something about this topic.

    I have the following function for reading a big-endian quadword (in a abstract base file I/O class): unsigned long long CGenFile::readBEq(){ unsigned long long qT = 0; qT |= readb() << 56; qT |= readb() << 48; qT |= readb() << 40; qT |= readb() << 32; qT |= readb() << 24; qT |= readb() << 16; qT |= readb() << 8; qT |= readb() << 0; return qT; } The readb() functions reads a BYTE. Here are the typedefs used: typedef unsigned char BYTE; typedef unsigned short WORD; typedef unsigned long DWORD; The thing is that i get 4 compiler warnings on the first four lines with the shift operation: warning C4293: '<<' : shift count negative or too big, undefined behavior I understand why this warning occurs, but i can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it correctly. I could do something like: qT |= (unsigned long long)readb() << 56; This removes the warning, but isn't there any other problem, will the BYTE be correctly extended all the time? Maybe i'm just thinking about it too much and the solution is that simple. Can you guys help me out here? Thanks.

    I am using a TStream to read binary data (thanks to this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2878180/how-to-use-a-tfilestream-to-read-2d-matrices-into-dynamic-array). My next problem is that the data is Big Endian. From my reading, the Swap() method is seemingly deprecated. How would I swap the types below? 16-bit two's complement binary integer 32-bit two's complement binary integer 64-bit two's complement binary integer IEEE single precision floating-point - Are IEEE affected by Big Endian? And, finally, since the data is unsigned, the creators of this dataset have stored the unsigned values as signed integers (excluding the IEEE). They instruct that one need only add an offset (2^15, 2^31, and 2^63) to recover the unsigned data. But, they note that flipping the most significant bit is the fastest way to do that. How does one efficiently flip the most significant bit of a 16, 32, or 64-bit integer? So, if the data on disk (16-bit) is "85 FB" - the desired result after reading the data and swapping and bit flipping would be 1531. Is there a way to accomplish the swapping and bit flipping with generics so it fits into the generic answer at the link above? Yes, kids, THIS is how scientific astronomical data is stored by NASA, ESO, and all professional astronomers. This FITS standard is considered by some to be one of the most successful standards ever created in its proliferation and flexibility!

      I really like database monitoring. My email inbox have a constant flow of different types of alerts coming from our production servers with all kinds of information, sometimes more useful and sometimes less useful. Usually database alerts look really simple, it’s usually a plain text email saying “Prod1 Database data file on Server X is 80% used. You’d better grow it manually before some query triggers the AutoGrowth process”. Imagine you could have received email like the one below.  In addition to the alert description it could have also included the the database file growth chart over the past 6 months. Wouldn’t it give you much more information whether the data growth is natural or extreme? That’s truly what data visualization is for. Believe it or not, I have sent the graph below from SQL Server stored procedure without buying any additional data monitoring/visualization tool.   Would you like to visualize your database alerts like I do? Then like myself, you’d love the Google Charts. All you need to know is a little HTML and have a mail profile configured on your SQL Server instance regardless of the SQL Server version. First of all, I hope you know that the sp_send_dbmail procedure has a great parameter @body_format = ‘HTML’, which allows us to send rich and colorful messages instead of boring black and white ones. All that we need is to dynamically create HTML code.     I want to make the effect as demonstrate on this site http://dropshadow.webvex.limebits.com/ with arguments - left:0 top:0 blur:1 opacity:1 examples:engraved font:sans serif I tried #333333 -1px -1px but seems not enough to make an inner shadow on such big font, it may be much more complex than i thought? And worse is i'm using Cufon to replace the font but Cufon doesn't support blur of text-shadow

    for big website's CSS what we should use IE condition sheets ( IE6, IE7, IE8 if needed) or CSS hacks in multiple people environment? and CSS will be handled by multiple people. I'm thinking to use hacks with proper comments because there are chanceh to forgot for other to make any changes in both css. For example : #ab { width:200px} in main css and #ab { width:210px} in IE css. Need your view on this. Thanks in advance.
