  I am facing an issue with my Windows Server 2012 IE 10.   I am an OSX user, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and an updated AirPort. I am trying to connect to my university's wireless network, but it has a complex security that I am having trouble defining... Here there are instructions for connecting with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux. Can someone please instruct me what should I do to set up this network on my MAC? Thank you. P.S. I have had previous success in setting up this network, but I have no idea what I did that made it work. Since I updated my AirPort it worked only seldomly and very slowly... Before the update, even when it worked it never remembered my password.

• Shrew VPN Client gives default route- changing the policy stops me from accessing VPN network

  I am using the shrew client to connect to what I believe is a Netscreen VPN. Now, when connected, the client adds the VPN as the default route. I do not want this- there is only 1 network behind the VPN that I need to access. I found that with the shrew client, you can change the "Policy" settings on the connection, and can add your own networks in that should tunnel over the VPN. I do this, and add my network in, but when I connect the VPN, I get nothing. Can't access the network. Any idea why this would be? I can see my network in the routing table, and its correctly pointing to the correct gateway. A traceroute shows all time-outs, so I can't be 100% sure that it is trying to tunnel over the VPN. Any idea how I can troubleshoot this?

• Libre Office/Writer PDF export: white borders appear between lines even after setting borders to none

  My document prints ok (exactly as it appears on the screen in Libre Office), but when I export to PDF and view the PDF on screen there are white borders around each text or picture object. Here's a sample snapshot from PDF/Preview: http://imgur.com/TWip5 I've tried selecting a paragraph and changing the border property to None as described in Libre Office help (http://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Borders), setting the "Line arrangement Default" to "Set no borders". But borders set by the Format dialog don't correspond to the borders I see in PDF/Preview. In PDF/Preview the border appears on line boundaries. Borders set in Format appear around each picture, for example. What am I doing wrong?

• Set default expand/colapse state on pivot tables

  The Setup I have a pivot table in tabular form pulling data from an Analysis Services Cube. I want to calculate the number of days between two dates, but the setup will only allow me to pull in all date elements, not just the date. I’ve been able to deal with this easily enough by just grouping all the columns: The Problem The default state for the expand/collapse buttons in the image above is often collapsed, but that means the dates I need aren’t there and you have to open the group and manually expand them. This also happens in some random ways (as shown in the image) where only some rows expand. The Question I need a way to set these sections to always be expanded, so that the user never has to open the group to expand the rows. Ideally I’d like to avoid VBA because our end users often block it, but if that’s what’s needed then so be it. Is there a way to set my pivot table to never collapse it’s predefined groups? Note the end user is using Excel 2010

• Outlook collapses IMAP folders by default

  I recently switched my mail account from POP3 to IMAP and created server-side rules to help me manage my mail better. I use Outlook 2007 as a mail client. For some reason, it seems then ever since I switched to IMAP, all my folders are collapsed by default. Since my folder tree goes down 4 levels, this is pretty annoying. I don't know any better than Outlook remembering my folder preferences, but it seems to forget them as soon as I close the program now. Is there any cause for this, and more importantly, is there a known fix for this problem?

  We're in the process of creating a shared webhosting infrastructure for our university. Departments within the university can host their sites on this infrastructure. We're thinking of setting up multiple, load balanced web servers attached to shared storage (for web content and Apache config files). There will also be database servers behind these web servers. Does anyone have any other suggestions about this? Any recommendations for an alternative setup? Would having cPanel/WHM/Plesk be a good idea to automate account creation/maintenance?

• Why is systemd not setting my system time?

  I'm running Arch Linux. Recently, when I turn on my PC, the system time is set to 1:00 1 January 1970 - presumably the 1:00 o'clock is from the timezone shift. Does anyone have any ideas why systemd isn't setting my system time correctly? Some useful output (I think)... • Setting up DKIM for multiple domains on same host

  I have DKIM set up for one domain and it works properly. I am trying, though, to set it up for another domain name on the same machine. In short, I am sending registration and password recovery emails from one domain and everything else from the other domain. Both domains map to the same host. Setting up domainkeys in this manner was no problem - adding another "DAEMON_OPTS=" line in /etc/default/dk-filter was the solution. This is not the case for DKIM, though, since it stores this information in a configuration file (/etc/dkim-filter.conf) that is formatted in a completely different manner.   Is there any way to restore the default ownership of a CentOS filesystem after an accidental chown -R user:group /* ? Before I go and reinstall, I thought I'd ask and perhaps save some time. I'm in the process of setting up a new dev machine (thankfully not prod) and typed too fast or missed the . key or something. I tried to cancel as soon as I caught it but all my /bin /boot /dev etc had already been changed. Is there hope, or just reinstall and be happy it wasn't a production machine?

  Is there any way to specify which monitor the console is displayed on in Linux? Details: I have a 3 monitor setup with 2 video cards. When I boot the computer, the BIOS displays on the PCI graphics card (which has a small monitor). When starting Linux, the console is displayed on the same monitor. Is there a way to have the console output on a different monitor? I'm using the vesafb framebuffer. I don't see a way in my BIOS to change the default video card.

• Setting up VM server access via host MacBook Pro's WiFi hotspot

  I have a virtual machine (VM) hosted on a MacBook Pro (MBP). There is a server installed on the VM. I'm trying to make this server accessible via MBP's WiFi hotspot so I can see it from my iPhone when connected to the hotspot. The VM is Parallels (latest version) and its OS is Win7 and the MBP is 2013 with Mavericks. With default settings and no hotspot enabled I can access the VM's server from the host OSX. The network setting on the VM is "Shared" and it's IP is 10.211.x.x. When I join the hotspot from another laptop the other laptop gets an IP 169.254.x.x and it can't ping 10.211.x.x or access the server on that VM Is there a combination of settings on the VM and MBP's hotspot such that I can access the VM server from a client on the MPB's hotspot?

  I have a program that by default only runs on one CPU. I have tried using the start /affinity x notepad.exe batch command but i can't get it to run my program. it changes the title of the command line window but doesn't execute the program. this start command does work for notepad so it might just be a problem with the software. I have set the affinity manually via task manager so i know it works. I am not the programmer of this software so changing that is not an option.

  Hello, I've noticed that Notepad++ is clearing the undo buffer when I save a file. This just started happening when I updated the editor to version 5.6.8. (previous version was pretty old... 5.3.? perhaps...) I've seen one reference out there (look at last bullet of answer) that this might be a setting I can change. • OS X Server - setting up a share for network home directories + fast user switching

  I'm nearly finished setting up my Open Directory master to allow users to be managed centrally and logged in on any of the client machines at home. I found discussion suggesting that using an AFP share for the 'Users' automount would result in network users (cf. users defined locally, or Portable Home Directory users) are unable to use fast user switching, as the first user logging in would trigger the automount and mount the 'Users' share with his permissions, preventing further users from using the mount. I've also found some suggestions to configure autofs such that the 'Users' share is mounted prior to any user logging in, but not great amounts of details along these lines. I'd greatly appreciate some instructions to set up autofs - ideally, on the OpenDirectory server rather than each client's etc/fstab or equivalent location, so that it isn't required per every client machine - to get fast user switching working with network users.

• First time setting up a MySQL database.

  In trying to learn how to work with the LAMP stack, I've hit a wall with MySQL. I can't seem to find a good reference for the first time setup of MySQL to be used with Apache and python. So, my question is four-fold: 1) Under what circumstances should I create my first database. That is, what user do I use (Apache's http user? root?) 2)How do permissions work? 3) Do I have to do anything on the MySQL side to make MySQL talk to Apache, or MySQL to talk to Python/Django? 4) Is there a good resource online that describes setting all of this up? I've found a bunch for using a database once it's in place, but none for the initial setup? Notes: I'm trying to run my LAMP stack on a dedicated little box for testing/learning purposes only, so I don't have access to any DBA that could help me, as much as I'd like one.

  I have been able to setup phpMemCacheAdmin (http://code.google.com/p/phpmemcacheadmin/) on CentOS and am able to view the localhost MemCache statistics however whenever I add other MemCached nodes the config is never changed. I am fairly certain it has something to do with permissions however I am unable to track down what exactly needs to be done, or how to do it. The install was pretty straightforward: wget http://phpmemcacheadmin.googlecode.com/files/phpMemCacheAdmin-1.1.3r161.tar.gz tar xvzf phpMemCacheAdmin-1.1.3r161.tar.gz chmod +w Config/Memcache.ini But, it also states that Apache has rw right in the temp file folder (default : Temp/) and the entire config directory (Config/) -- that is the part I am unsure of.   In Ubuntu, how can I make Quanta Plus the default editor for PHP files? In Windows we just use the open with context menu the first time for any new types of files and check use this application for these type of files. After that the files always open up in checked application. I want to know if Ubuntu has a similar feature. Also, if I open 2 PHP files then two instance of Quanta Plus opens up. How can I get the secondary PHP files to open on another tab instead?
