  • Computation on db data then list them using either SimpleCursorAdapter or ArrayAdapter

    Hi all, I juststarted programming in android a few weeks ago, so I am not entirely sure how to deal with listing values. Please help me out! I have some questions regarding displaying data sets from db in a list. Currently I have a cursor returned by my db points to a list of rows and I want display 2 columns values in a single row of the list. The row xml looks like this: <TextView android:id="@+id/text1" android:textSize="16sp" android:textStyle="bold" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/text2" android:textSize="14sp" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> so I was thinking using simplecursoradapter which supposedly makes my life easier by displaying the data in a list. However that is only true if I want to display the raw data. For the purpose of my program I need to do some computations on the raw data sets, then display them. I am not sure how to do that using SimpleCursorAdapter. Here's how I display the raw data: String[] from = new String[]{BtDbAdapter.KEY_EX_TYPE,BtDbAdapter.KEY_EX_TIMESTAMP}; int[] to = new int[]{R.id.text1, R.id.text2}; // Now create a simple cursor adapter and set it to display SimpleCursorAdapter records = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.exset_row, mExsetCursor, from, to); setListAdapter(records); Is there a way to do computation on the data in those rows before I bind it with the SimpleCursorAdapter? I was trying to use an alternative way of doing this by using arraylist and arrayadapter, but that way I dont know to how achieve displaying 2 items in a single row. This is my code for using arrayadapter which only display 1 text in a row instead of 2 textviews in a row: //fill in the array timestamp_arr = new ArrayList<String>(); type_arr = new ArrayList<String>(); fillRecord(); Log.d(TAG,"setting now in recordlist"); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item,timestamp_arr)); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item2,type_arr)); It's very obvious that it only displays one textview in a row because I set the second arrayadapter overwrites the first one! I was trying to use R.id.text1 and R.id.text2 for them, but it gave me some errors saying 04-23 01:40:58.658: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(3309): android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: Resource ID #0x7f070008 type #0x12 is not valid I believe the second method can achieve this, but I'm not sure how do deal with the layout problems, so if you any suggestions, please post them out.     This sample app ("thoughtsite") for App Engine contains a pom.xml in its trunk: http://code.google.com/p/thoughtsite/source/browse/#svn/trunk I ran mvn eclipse:eclipse and also tried using m2eclipse to import this source code into an Eclipse project. But I end up with this error despite the fact that I have the Google App Engine plugin and the Google App Engine SDK installed: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError at com.google.appengine.tools.info.SdkImplInfo.<clinit>(SdkImplInfo.java:19) at com.google.appengine.tools.util.Logging.initializeLogging(Logging.java:36) at com.google.appengine.tools.development.DevAppServerMain.main(DevAppServerMain.java:82) Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to discover the Google App Engine SDK root. This code should be loaded from the SDK directory, but was instead loaded from file:~/.m2/repository/com/google/appengine/appengine-tools-sdk/1.3.0/appengine-tools-sdk-1.3.0.jar.   • How to return proper 404 for google while providing user friendly content to the user?

    I am bouncing between posting this here and on Superuser. Please excuse me if you feel this does not belong here. I am observing the behavior described here - Googlebot is requesting random urls on my site, like aecgeqfx.html or sutwjemebk.html. I am sure that I am not linking these urls from anywhere on my site. I suspect this may be google probing how we handle non existent content - to cite from an answer to the linked question: [google is requesting random urls to] see if your site correctly handles non-existent files (by returning a 404 response header) We have a custom page for nonexistent content - a styled page saying "Content not found, if you believe you got here by error, please contact us", with a few internal links, served (naturally) with a 200 OK. The URL is served directly (no redirection to a single url). I am afraid this may discriminate the site at google - they may not interpret the user friendly page as a 404 - not found and may think we are trying to fake something and provide duplicate content. How should I proceed to ensure that google will not think the site is bogus while providing user friendly message to users in case they click on dead links by accident?

The google market insists that the different versions must have different package names. So far i have been refactoring the package with 2 different names and changing the R resource file import each time i build the different versions. The code is 99% the same for both versions.Is there a better way?

  • Handling file uploads with JavaScript and Google Gears, is there a better solution?

    So - I've been using this method of file uploading for a bit, but it seems that Google Gears has poor support for the newer browsers that implement the HTML5 specs. I've heard the word deprecated floating around a few channels, so I'm looking for a replacement that can accomplish the following tasks, and support the new browsers. I can always fall back to gears / standard file POST's but these following items make my process much simpler: Users MUST to be able to select multiple files for uploading in the dialog. I MUST be able to receive status updates on the transmission of a file. (progress bars) I would like to be able to use PUT requests instead of POST I would like to be able to easily attach these events to existing HTML elements using JavaScript. I.E. the File Selection should be triggered on a <button> click. I would like to be able to control response/request parameters easily using JavaScript. I'm not sure if the new HTML5 browsers have support for the desktop/request objects gears uses, or if there is a flash uploader that has these features that I am missing in my google searches.     Working with cursors in mysql-python I used to call "BEGIN;", "COMMIT;", and "ROLLBACK;" explicitly as follows: try: cursor.execute("BEGIN;") # some statements cursor.execute("COMMIT;") except: cursor.execute("ROLLBACK;") then, I found out that the underlying connection object has the corresponding methods: try: cursor.connection.begin() # some statements cursor.connection.commit() except: cursor.connection.rollback() Inspecting the DB-API PEP I found out that it does not mention the begin() method for the connection object, even for the extensions. Mysql-python, by the way, throws the Deprecation Warning, when you use the method. sqlite3.connection, for example, does not have the methd at all. And the question is why there is no such method in the PEP? Is the statement somehow optional, is it enough to invoke commit() instead?

    Hello, everyone! I have a project (related to graph algorithms). It is written by someone else. The code is horrible: public fields, no getters/setters huge methods, all public some classes have over 20 fields some classes have over 5 constructors (which are also huge) some of those constructors just left many fields null (so I can't make some fields final, because then every second constructor signals errors) methods and classes rely on each other in both directions I have to rewrite this into a clean and understandable API. Problem is: I myself don't understand anything in this code. Please give me hints on analyzing and understanding such code. I was thinking, perhaps, there are tools which perform static code analysis and give me call graphs and things like this.

    I would like to know how to add a picture to an event using the Facebook Graph API. I have seen this question and tried some variations on that theme, without any success. The official documentation doesn't seem to make any mention of it. I'm using PHP for this particular project and I've looked at the PHP SDK source code, which is not helpful in any way. Requesting metadata for pictures using https://graph.facebook.com/eventid/picture?metadata=1&access_token... doesn't seem to be recognized, so no help there either. Has anyone come across some example or documentation on how to do this? (don't care about which language it is in)

  • Facebook Graph API: Feed publishing showing up as link type instead of status?

    So I'm publishing to a Facebook Group's Feed in my app, using the Graph API. It works fine, except facebook keeps treating the published info as a 'link' feed item type instead of 'status' like it does when I enter the same from facebook's site. eg: string url = "https://graph.facebook.com/<id-of-group/feed?access_token=<access-token>"; string data = "message=hello"; webClient.UploadString(url, "POST", data); Now when I pull the feed items, the json that is returned has "item":"link", with "link":"http://www.facebook.com", whereas I'd expect it to be "item":"status" and no or an empty "link" property. Any ideas?

  • Is it possible to run locally JRuby on Google App Engine without restarting server on every change?

    Unfortunately, GAE requires restart of the server on each code change. Is it possible to prevent it and have immediate feedback after code save? Or, can I import Google App Engine's API into my ruby code and run it on Sinatra server? Tried this but it fails on "import com.google.appengine.api" (it doesn't know what 'com' is). For Sinatra, I use "Rerun" ( http://github.com/alexch/rerun ) which restarts server immediately after a change with minimum wait. Thanks.

    I'm using the goo.gl API as described here. It's easy to use and it works with or without authantication (I'm using OAuth). So, if I provide the OAuth token / secret, the shortened URL is added to the users history. My problem is, that I would like to show to the user that the shortened URL was added to his goo.gl history. The respone you get from the shortening request, however, is always the same, whether you use authorization or not: { "kind": "urlshortener#url", "id": "http://goo.gl/fbsS", "longUrl": "http://www.google.com/" } So, does anyone know a way to find out, if the shortened URL was successfully added to the user's history? Is there a parameter you can add to the request URL that leads to a more detailed result string?
