  i want to know the string matching algorithms used by Apache Lucene. i have been going through the index file format used by lucene given here. it seems that lucene stores all words occurring in the text as is with their frequency of occurrence in each document. but as far as i know that for efficient string matching it would need to preprocess the words occurring in the Documents. example: search for "iamrohitbanga is a user of stackoverflow" (use fuzzy matching) in some documents. it is possible that there is a document containing the string "rohit banga" to find that the substrings rohit and banga are present in the search string, it would use some efficient substring matching. i want to know which algorithm it is. also if it does some preprocessing which function call in the java api triggers it.

It seems like I can ask a dozen question that these guys won't be able to answer but somehow because I don't know the latest fad counts against me. I do read, but if you don't use what you read in your daily work, you will never have expert knowledge of it. So bottom line: is the only way for me to take a .NET or Java job is for me to start at the bottom all over?

  Heya, I want to create a winforms app where you can assign tags to an entity. ofc I want the customer to re-use existing tags a lot. That's why I want to show them the list of tags while they are typing (similar to intellisense in VS and the tags-dropdown even here in stackoverflow ;)) do you have any control(s) in mind that offers this functionality? can I reuse a ComboBox for this? (here I need to drop it down programatically - how?) I want to have the taglist getting input-focus but not lose the mainform-focus, and I want it to be on top over all windows and even range out of the mainform-area (like intellisense in vs) thx!

• PHP voting system with sessions?

  Hi guys, I've been reading up on stackoverflow about creating voting systems in PHP that minimize abuse/multiple voting from the same user, but I haven't come across the answer to my question. I've got an application where users don't need to register to vote or "like" an entry. Obviously, I want to minimize abuse and I don't want to limit votes per IP address because some organisations (mine included) use shared IP addresses. I've never used sessions in a non-authenticated system before, but since this application is centered around entry votes I was wondering if this approach would work and whether there were any disadvantages such as performance implications, and whether it's even possible to use sessions in this way: start a session when the website is loaded allow one vote per item per session If this is a bad idea, my alternative options would be to allow a reasonable number of votes per IP address (say 25), or put a time limit between votes from the same IP address. What do you guys recommend?

• Are there any existing batch log file aggregation solutions?

  I wish to export from multiple nodes log files (in my case apache access and error logs) and aggregate that data in batch, as a scheduled job. I have seen multiple solutions that work with streaming data (i.e think scribe). I would like a tool that gives me the flexibility to define the destination. This requirement comes from the fact that I want to use HDFS as the destination. I have not been able to find a tool that supports this in batch. Before re-creating the wheel I wanted to ask the StackOverflow community for their input. If a solution exists already in python that would be even better.

• Configure JBOss cache to run on JBoss server 4.2.3.GA

  Our commercial application used to run on different application server and letely we started adjust it to run on JBoss server. The problem is that that application runs JBoss cache and as part of the integration with this framework, the web-inf\lib contains the follwing jars: jboss-aop.jar, jbosscache-core.jar, jboss-common.jar, jboss-common-core.jar, jboss-j2ee.jar, jboss-jmx.jar, jboss-logging-spi.jar This causes a problem to use JNDI through the application because the jboss-common-core.jar contain naming package that cause JBoss JNDI to work incorrect. So I need to find a way to organise my jars that on one hand jboss cache will keep working and on the other hand not to interfere to the work of JNDI Perhaps it include moving the some or all those jars from the web-inf\lib to the /server/default/lib Looking for someone who is familiar in this subject (continue of this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2847375/problem-configure-jboss-to-work-with-jndi3 )

• How to extend WPF hit testing zone for a Path object.

  Wpf hit testing is pretty good but the only method I found to extend the hit zone is to put a transparent padding area around your object. I can't find any method to add a transparent area arround a Path object. The path is very thin and I would like to enable hit testing if the user clicks near the path. I can't find any method to extend the path object with a transparent area like the image below : I tried to used a partially transparent stroke brush but I ran into the problem described here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1412833/how-can-i-draw-a-soft-line-in-wpf-presumably-using-a-lineargradientbrush I also tried to put an adorner over my line but because of WPF anti-aliasing algorithms, the position is way off when I zoom in my canvas and interfere with other objects hit-testing in a bad way. How should I use it in a way that all activity gets recorder by TextWriterTraceListener to a text file. Is one static member which all threads use (by calling) TraceEvent-method safe. (I've kind of asked this question in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1901086/how-to-instantiate-c-tracesources-to-log-multithreaded-asp-net-2-0-web-applica, but I cannot just believe if somebody just says it's OK despite the documentation).

• Convert graph in to data points using Mechanical Turk?

  I looked around but did not see anyone using Mechanical Turk for this. I've heard of the service, but never used it before. I need to take the following graph and digitize it so I get a list of data points for each line (noting that there are two Y-axes, and thus depends on which line we are talking about). This is pretty time consuming for me, and I saw other posts on StackOverflow about digitizing software doing a poor job at this. Would Mechanical Turk be well suited to my task? I've read this faq about about returning arrays and tried the 'static' technique that is suggested there, but still could not get the program working. Could anyone point out exactly what's wrong with it and what should I be paying attention in the future?

• How to control allowed HTML tags in WMD Editor?

  I am trying to some-how set the valid HTML tags and attributes users would be able to use in WMD Editor in my site. For example, I want to forbid the user to directly set the font size, color, typeface and so on, which is trivial to do with the default settings typing something like: <span style="font-size: 45px; color:#FF0000">Some intrusive text here</span>. I think the way to implement this is through the "wmd_options", but I have not found any documentation or reference regarding this, giving the fact that the 'Options demo' seems to be the only public documentation and it does not show how should I do what I have described above. • How to determine the maximum integer the model can handle?

  "What is the biggest integer the model field that this application instance can handle?" We have sys.maxint, but I'm looking for the database+model instance. We have the IntegerField, the SmallIntegerField, the PositiveSmallIntegerField, and a couple of others beside. They could all vary between each other and each database type. I found the "IntegerRangeField" custom field example here on stackoverflow. Might have to use that, and guess the lowest common denominator? Or rethink the design I suppose. Is there an easy way to work out the biggest integer an IntegerField, or its variants, can cope with?

• Creating a future proof .NET 3.5 SP1 installer prerequisite for setup.exe AND the .MSI

  I've demanded .NET 3.5 SP1 a la http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88136/will-a-vs2008-setup-project-update-net-3-5-sp1. This makes the setup.exe check correctly. I've also added a "SP1" launch condition to my MSI so it doesn't let the user install my .NET 3.5SP1 app via launching the MSI (and replaced the [VSDNETMSG] in the Framework condition message with one that actually mentions SP1). From a future proofing point of view, this feels wrong. I want the condition to be: (NETVer=3.5 AND Net35SPLevel=1) OR (NETVer=>3.5) not (NETVer=3.5 AND Net35SPLevel=1) Is there any way to do that? The framework check doesnt have a condition property to allow me to add a sub-condition... Yes, I could also just not worry my pretty little head about it :P If one of the MS versioning experts out there reads this, if you're going to put stuff that code depends on into SPs, can you please make the installer be able to check for it OOTB. (I really wish they had come up with a better numbering scheme - the world and its dog could see that this was going to get confusing)

• Objective-C @class / import best practice

  I've noticed that a lot of Objective-C examples will forward declare classes with @class, then actually import the class in the .m file with an import. I understand that this is considered a best practice, as explained in answers to question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/322597/objective-c-class-vs-import Coming from C++ this feels backwards. I would normally include all needed .h files in the new classes header file. This seems useful since it would make the compiler generate a warning when two classes include each other, at which point I can decide whether this is a bad thing or not then use the same Objective-C style and forward declare the class in the header and include it in the .cpp file. What is the benefit of forward declaring @class and importing in the implementation file? Should it be a best practice in C++ to forward declare classes rather than including the header file? Or is it wrong to think of Objective-C and C++ in these similar terms to begin with?

• MSSQL Efficiently dropping a group of rows with millions and millions of rows

  I recently asked this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2519183/ms-sql-share-identity-seed-amongst-tables (Many people wondered why) I have the following layout of a table: Table: Stars starId bigint categoryId bigint starname varchar(200) But my problem is that I have millions and millions of rows. So when I want to delete stars from the table Stars it is too intense on MS SQL. I cannot use built in partitioning for 2005+ because I do not have an enterprise license. When I do delete though, I always delete a whole category Id at a time. I thought of doing a design like this: Table: Star_1 starId bigint CategoryId bigint constaint rock=1 starname varchar(200) Table: Star_2 starId bigint CategoryId bigint constaint rock=2 starname varchar(200) In this way I can delete a whole category and hence millions of rows in O(1) by doing a simple drop table. My question is, is it a problem to have thousands of tables in your MS SQL? The drop in O(1) is extremely desirable to me. Maybe there's a completely different solution I'm not thinking of?

• Jersey, Apache HTTPD, and javax.annotation.security usage

  So I'm having a heck of a time trying to piece together what I think is a pretty simple implementation. This is very similar to another StackOverflow question only I can't leverage Tomcat to handle role based authentication. I have an Apache httpd server in front of my app that handles authentication and then passes LDAP roles to a Jersey service through Headers. I've created a servlet filter to parse the header and tease out the roles the request came from, which works fine globally to the app, but isn't fine-grained enough to dictate what an Admin could do that a User could not. I'm thinking I could use the javax.annotation.security annotations that JAX-RS supports, but I don't know how to take what I've parsed out using a servlet filter to set or instantiate the SecurityContext necessary for the roles @RolesAllowed.

• Building big, immutable objects without using constructors having long parameter lists

  Hi StackOverflow! I have some big (more than 3 fields) Objects which can and should be immutable. Every time I run into that case i tend to create constructor abominations with long parameter lists. It doesn't feel right, is hard to use and readability suffers. It is even worse if the fields are some sort of collection type like lists. A simple addSibling(S s) would ease the object creation so much but renders the object mutable. What do you guys use in such cases? I'm on Scala and Java, but i think the problem is language agnostic as long as the language is object oriented. Solutions I can think of: "Constructor abominations with long parameter lists" The Builder Pattern Thanks for your input!

Take a look at this: WebClient client = new WebClient(); WebRequestSettings wrs = new WebRequestSettings(new URL("http://stackoverflow.com/ping/?what-the-duck?"), HttpMethod.HEAD); client.getPage(wrs); Running this code results in throwing FileNotFoundException, because HTTP Status code on the page is 404 and getting the same page again with the GET method, with User-Agent set to Java-.... Why does it GET the page (it doesn't happen with "normal" status codes)? Is this a bug?   Hey folks, i'm using the jQuery UI datepicker instead of the <g:datePicker>, which is changing the selected date in a textbox. Now I want to save this neatly back into my database, and came across custom property editors. click me hard to see the topic on StackOverflow However, adding this custom PropertyEditor didn't change anything, dates are still displayed like '2010-01-01 00:00:00.0' and if I try to save a date it crashes with Cannot cast object '05.05.2010' with class 'java.lang.String' to class 'java.util.Date'. Is there any additional magic needed, like a special naming of the textbox or something like that? Thanks for your help, Jan

  Hello, I am working on an Excel application that queries a SQL database. The queries can take a long time to run (20-40 min). If I've miss-coded something it can take a long time to error or reach a break point. I can save the results to a sheet fine, it's when I am working with the record sets that things can blow up. Is there a way to load the data into a ADODB.Recordset when I'm debugging to skip querying the database (after the first time)? • Wrap text around an image in rails and prawn

  I have a document with dynamic image and dynamic text and would like the text around the image. The image is right aligned on the landscape page.
