• Hello World bootloader not working!

  Hello. I've been working through the tutorials on this webpage which progressively creates a bootloader that displays Hello World. The 2nd tutorial (where we attempt to get an "A" to be output) works perfectly, and yet the 1st tutorial doesn't work for me at all! (The BIOS completely ignores the floppy disk and boots straight into Windows). This is less of an issue, although any explanations would be appreciated. The real problem is that I can't get the 3rd tutorial to work. Instead on outputting "Hello World", I get an unusual character (and blinking cursor) in the bottom-left corner of the screen. It looks a bit like a smiley face inside a rounded rectangle. Does anyone know how to get Hello World to display as it should?

• Android SDK - Animation prevents further events on View like OnClick()

  I have an ImageView which is animated via startAnimation() to slide it into the screen. It is visible and enabled in the XML. When I add a Handler for a delay or an onClick event, nothing happens. When I remove the startAnimation() everything works fine. Except the animation of course. Heres my code: balloon.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View view) { view.setVisibility(View.GONE); } }); Animation dropDown = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(context, R.anim.balloon_slide_down); dropDown.setStartOffset(1500); balloon.startAnimation(dropDown); Any ideas why that is?   Hi, I have following this blog in setting Xvfb in my ubuntu environment: http://corpocrat.com/2008/08/19/how-to-install-xvfb-x11-server-in-linux-server/ So I did this: Xvfb :1 -screen 0 800x600x24& My question is does Xvfb only allocate memory during initialization? i.e. just enough for a display of 800x600x24? So as I have more and more programs (different programs or same program multiple times) display to the Xvfb , it does not allocate more memory? Thank you.

  I am currently in the process of creating a mobile version of my web app. The app is being developed with Facebook's PHP Client Library. The issue: I am using the following mobile url to allow users to log in using the mobile devices: http://m.facebook.com/tos.php?api_key=APIKEY&v=1.0&next=http%3A%2F%2Ftweelay.net%2Fm.php&cancel=http%3A%2F%2Ftweelay.net%2Fm.php APIKEY being my app's actual Facebook API key. In the url I am telling Facebook to redirect the user back to http://tweelay.net/m.php when the user signs in or clicks cancel on the log in screen. I am pulling my hair trying to figure out why it keeps sending the user to http://m.tweelay.net/m.php which is currently an invalid end point. I have gone through all of my app's settings on Facebook and I cant find any that reference http://m.tweelay.net and going through all of my source code I cant find any that reference the m. sub-domain either.

  Hi folks, I have a GWT application and wanna to test load and functionality using a tool like jmeter. I am not sure jmeter is right tool for GWT. Can anybody direct me to proper tool or can tell me how to do it with jmeter? I want to test login functionality: I have two text box 'User name' and 'Password' on login screen and want to test how many users can log in simultaneously, how much time a round trip to server it takes. Don't know how jmeter can get 'user name' and 'password' and can submit it to validate against DB for GWT application? Thanks in advance.

• How do you redirect https to http

  that is, the opposite of what (seemingly) everyone teaches. I have a server on https for which I paid an SSL cert for and a mirror for which I haven't and keep around for just for emergencies so it doesn't merit getting a cert for. On my client's desktops I have SOME shortcuts which point to http://production_server and https://productionserver (both work), however; I know that if my prod. server goes down, then DNS forwarding kicks in and those clients which have https on their shortcut will be staring at https://mirrorserver (Which doesnt work) and a big fat IE7 red screen of uneasyness for my company. Unfortunately, I can't just switch this around at the client level. These users are very computer illiterate: and are very likely to freak out from seeing https "insecurity" errors (specially the way FFX3 and IE7 handle it nowadays: FULL STOP, kinda thankfully, but not helping me here LOL). It's very easy to find apache solutions for http-https redirection, but for the life of me I can't do the opposite. Ideas? Cheers, /mp

• Eclipse IDE's Hello World Cheatsheet seems to have a mistake

  Hey guys, Just a warning: I'm completely new to Java and am trying to teach myself Android programming. I installed the Eclipse IDE today and tried to walk through the first Java Hello World "cheat sheet," and it didn't work! I was really quite surprised. When it asked me to select the checkbox to create the main() method, there wasn't anything on-screen that looked like a checkbox with "main()" or "method" next to it, so I guessed that maybe what they meant was the "Modifiers" radio button. So I left that checked for "public." It didn't compile and I got red X's next to every folder in my Package Explorer. Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks!

• Drag and drop image from and to fixed position on fixed path

  I am trying to allow the user to drag and drop and image from on position to another. The screen layout is as follows: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 I want the user to grab image 2, 4, 6, or 8 and drag it to image 5. Upon dragging to image 5 I want to load up a fragment. The user can only drag the image in a straight line from it's current position to 5's position. ie image 2 and only drag down and only until it is overtop of image 5, image 4 can only drag right until overtop of 5, etc. Any insight on how to do this is greatly appreciated.   In visual studio datasource designer(The screen where you have all the UML Diagrams including relations) is there any way to refresh a table and its relations/foreign key constraints without refreshing the whole table? The way I am doing it at the moment is removing the table and adding it again. This adds all the relations and refreshes all fields. Also if I change a fields data type, is there a way to automatically refresh all the fields in the datasource? Again without deleting the table and adding it again. Reason for this is because some of my TableAdapters have quite a number of complex queries attached to them and when I remove the table the adapter gets removed as well including all its queries. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and connecting to a MySQL database.

  I'm building a dialog class which inherits from Dialog, and all internal UI is programmatic. It's structured in the following way: Dialog +LinearLayout ++TextView ++ScrollView +++LinearLayout ++++ListView Unfortunately, when I show() the Dialog, it's too short. I'd like it to maximize and cover as much of the screen as possible, but only when there are enough items in the ListView to warrant it. I haven't found my answer in the docs, and I haven't been able to get it to work by setting WRAP_CONTENT as layout parameters, or setting heights manually. What is the proper way to approach this? • Vertex Buffer Object not drawing in SDL window

  I'm just using the opengl SDL template with Xcode, and everything runs fine. I removed the Atlantis code, and changed the main extension to .mm, then added some testing code to drawGL. Drawing a simple triangle (using immediate mode) at this point inside drawGL gives me a white triangle, but when I add the code to draw using a vertex buffer object, i just get a black window. When the form is submitted, I need to run a PHP script without refreshing/leaving page "echo" or somehow print a return on the screen I'm pretty sure this works via some kind of ajax request thing. but I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not big on ajax or javascript, but this is a function i use very frequently and I'd like to learn how it works so I can implement it when i need to now and in the future. • windows mobile 6.5 Gestures and DirectDraw

  I'm trying to build a UI using directdraw in c#. For this im using a DirectDrawWrapper as sugested here. My initial tests setting up the screen work perfectly. But now i'd like to incorporate gesture recognition into the UI. So i instantiate a GestureRecognizer and tie it to the _form which also gets passed to the DirectDrawGraphics constructor, form = new Form(); _form.show(); _graphics = new DirectDrawGraphics(_form, CooperativeFlags.Fullscreen, BackbufferMode.Any); gestureRecognizer = new GestureRecognizer(); gestureRecognizer.TargetControl = _form; Pasting the whole DirectDrawWrapper code might be a bit to much, so let me try to formulate a question. I guess directdraw talks directly to the video memory, as it should. But then my form wont receive any messages, thus any eventhandlers i'v tied op to the GestureRecognizer wont be fired. How can i still receive any messages from the touchscreen?

Also I would like to add the validation to the top of the screen as a validation summary Any Ideas ?

• iPad Orientation Paradigm

  I'm not a super awesome designer so this new paradigm has me a little cranky. The iPad is not supposed to have a standard orientation, and should/shall display screen contents at whichever orientation the user decides. This has me sort of stumped. I can keep my UI designed the way I want it in landscape mode, but switching to portrait, I just can't determine the best way to present app content. I know it's all speculation at this point, but what are the chances we can override the autoRotateToOrientation to only include the orientation of our choice? Apple ignored the HIG on a lot of issues for iPhone, including splash screens, saving state, etc. I know we can't really argue with Apple, but doesn't it sound slightly ridiculous to reject an app because it won't rotate to portrait? I've come a long way porting some code to iPad and it works great in landscape mode. I guess only time will tell. What do you all think?

• Displaying webcam feed using opencv and python

  Hi ive been trying to create a simple program with python which utilises opencv to get a video feed from my webcam and display it on the screen. I know im partly there because the window is created and the light on my webcam flicks on, but it just doesnt seem to show anything in the window. hopefully someone can explain what im doing wrong. import cv cv.NamedWindow("w1", cv.CV_WINDOW_AUTOSIZE) capture = cv.CaptureFromCAM(0) def repeat(): frame = cv.QueryFrame(capture) cv.ShowImage("w1", frame) while True: repeat() on an unrelated note, i have noticed that my webcam sometimes changes its index number in cv.CaptureFromCAM and sometimes i need to put in 0, 1 or 2 even though i only have one camera connected and i havnt unplugged it (i know because the light doesnt come on unless i change the index). is there a way to get python to determine the correct index? thanks Mitch

  Hi Friends, I want to do the following and am kind of stuck on these for a few days.... 1) I have used helloItemizedOverlay to add about 150 markers and it gets very very slow.....any idea what to do ? I was thinking about threads....(handler) ... 2) I was trying to draw poly lines ( I have encoded polylines, but have managed to decoded those) that move when I move the map.....(the only solution that I found was for Geopoints to be transformed into screen co-ordinates...which wont move if I move the map !) 3) I was looking for some sort of a timer function that executes a given function, say, every 1 minute or so.... 4) I was also looking for ways to clear the Google map from all the markers/lines etc.... • iPhone image distortion

  Are there any reasons why the simulator will display UIImageViews properly, but incorrectly on the iPhone? My Process: An image in a PNG file Start a UIGraphicsBeginImageContext() Draw the PNG in a CGrect Draw text in the CGRect Create an UIImage from the context Set the image of a UIImaveView to the UIImage Set the frame of the UIImageView to the size of the PNG Add as a subview Outcome: The image does not display correctly. The rightmost 1-3 pixels of the image is just a vertical white line. This occurs only on the device and not on the simulator. I can fix the problem, but only by increasing the size of the UIImageView. If I increase the size.height of the UIImageView by 1 pixel, it displays the UIImage correctly. Of course, these leaves the iPhone to scale my image before drawing it on screen which is not desirable. Any ideas why this occurs or any fixes for it? (I will post my code if needed)

• Random blank pages on Safari when developing webapp

  Hey guys, I've been experiencing a safari problem while building a web application. The screen goes completely blank (white) and refreshing won't help. Going to another page on the site gives the same problem. Then magically, after a little while, everything goes back to normal and pages are rendered correctly! This started happening around the same time that I SUSPECT my hosting automatically upgraded from PHP 5.2.x to 5.3 (all of a sudden, we got 'deprecated function' errors and the error settings and handling were unchanged) I also have to mention that this doesn't happen in our dev environment (PHP 5.2.9, Apache 2) Settings Safari 4.0.2 and the latest one (don't know the version) Server side: PHP 5.3, MySQL 5.0.90, Apache is cPanel Easy Apache v3.2.0 Does anyone know why this is happening at all, or how to fix it? I appreciate any help or pointers you might have. Thanks!

• Unable to login magento administration

  Hi Everybody, I have just installed Magento on Windows using WAMP. Installation was successfull without any errors or warnings. When i browse administration page, i can see login screen. After entering the correct credentials it is not displaying me the Dashboard/Control Panel. Its displaying the same login page. If i enter wrong credentials, its authenticating and displaying a message as "invalid username or password" I am unable to determine the issue. If anybody has been through this issue and solved it please help me. How can i login Magento administration. Note: While installation i have selected session=Database. Will that be a issue? Kindly Advice, SIA
