• Is this an acceptable use of "ASCII arithmetic"?

- by jmgant
I've got a string value of the form 10123X123456 where 10 is the year, 123 is the day number within the year, and the rest is unique system-generated stuff. Under certain circumstances, I need to add 400 to the day number, so that the number above, for example, would become 10523X123456. My first idea was to substring those three characters, convert them to an integer, add 400 to it, convert them back to a string and then call replace on the original string. That works. But then it occurred to me that the only character I actually need to change is the third one, and that the original value would always be 0-3, so there would never be any "carrying" problems. It further occurred to me that the ASCII code points for the numbers are consecutive, so adding the number 4 to the character "0", for example, would result in "4", and so forth. So that's what I ended up doing. My question is, is there any reason that won't always work? I generally avoid "ASCII arithmetic" on the grounds that it's not cross-platform or internationalization friendly. But it seems reasonable to assume that the code points for numbers will always be sequential, i.e., "4" will always be 1 more than "3". Anybody see any problem with this reasoning? Here's the code. string input = "10123X123456"; input[2] += 4; //Output should be 10523X123456

• Have Microsoft changed how ASP.NET MVC deals with duplicate action method names?

- by Jason Evans
I might be missing something here, but in ASP.NET MVC 4, I can't get the following to work. Given the following controller: public class HomeController : Controller { public ActionResult Index() { return View(); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Index(string order1, string order2) { return null; } } and it's view: @{ ViewBag.Title = "Home"; } @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.TextBox("order1")
@Html.TextBox("order2") } When start the app, all I get is this: The current request for action 'Index' on controller type 'HomeController' is ambiguous between the following action methods: System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult Index() on type ViewData.Controllers.HomeController System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult Index(System.String, System.String) on type ViewData.Controllers.HomeController Now, in ASP.NET MVC 3 the above works fine, I just tried it, so what's changed in ASP.NET MVC 4 to break this? OK there could be a chance that I'm doing something silly here, and not noticing it. EDIT: I notice that in the MVC 4 app, the Global.asax.cs file did not contain this: public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); } which the MVC 3 app does, by default. So I added the above to the MVC 4 app but it fails with the same error. Note that the MVC 3 app does work fine with the above route. I'm passing the "order" data via the Request.Form. EDIT: In the file RouteConfig.cs I can see RegisterRoutes is executed, with the following default route: routes.MapRoute( name: "Default", url: "{controller}/{action}/{id}", defaults: new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }); I still get the original error, regards ambiguity between which Index() method to call.

• VB.net XML Parser loop

- by StealthRT
Hey all i am new to XML parsing on VB.net. This is the code i am using to parse an XML file i have: Dim output As StringBuilder = New StringBuilder() Dim xmlString As String = _ "<ip_list>" & _ "<ip>" & _ "<ip>192.168.1.1</ip>" & _ "<ping>9 ms</ping>" & _ "<hostname>N/A</hostname>" & _ "</ip>" & _ "<ip>" & _ "<ip>192.168.1.6</ip>" & _ "<ping>0 ms</ping>" & _ "<hostname>N/A</hostname>" & _ "</ip>" & _ "</ip_list>" Using reader As XmlReader = XmlReader.Create(New StringReader(xmlString)) Do Until reader.EOF reader.ReadStartElement("ip_list") reader.ReadStartElement("ip") reader.ReadStartElement("ip") reader.MoveToFirstAttribute() Dim theIP As String = reader.Value.ToString reader.ReadToFollowing("ping") Dim thePing As String = reader.ReadElementContentAsString().ToString reader.ReadToFollowing("hostname") Dim theHN As String = reader.ReadElementContentAsString().ToString MsgBox(theIP & " " & thePing & " " & theHN) Loop End Using I put the "do until reader.EOF" myself but it does not seem to work. It keeps giving an error after the first go around. I must be missing something? David

• Hibernate Transient Extends problem

- by mrvreddy
@MappedSuperclass public abstract class BaseAbstract implements Serializable{ private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; protected String test = //some random value; public String getTest() { return test; } public void setTest(String test){ this.test = test; } } @Entity public class Artist extends BaseAbstract { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; private Integer id; @override @Transient public String getTest() { return test; } ..... } My question is... when i am trying to do any operation on the artist, along with id and name, test is also getting saved which should not be the case... if i add the same transient on the baseabstract class getTest() method, i see test column NOT getting created(ideally what it should happen) but if i try to override the method with adding annotaion in the sub class it creates the test column... I dont know why this is happening since when hibernate is creating the artist object and checks for annotations, it should see the transient annotation present on the getTest() of artist method...and should not create a column in the database... Let me know if you need any clarification.... Any response on this is greatly appreciated.... Thank you

• How can I merge two Linq IEnumerable<T> queries without running them?

- by makerofthings7
How do I merge a List<T> of TPL-based tasks for later execution? public async IEnumerable<Task<string>> CreateTasks(){ /* stuff*/ } My assumption is .Concat() but that doesn't seem to work: void MainTestApp() // Full sample available upon request. { List<string> nothingList = new List<string>(); nothingList.Add("whatever"); cts = new CancellationTokenSource(); delayedExecution = from str in nothingList select AccessTheWebAsync("", cts.Token); delayedExecution2 = from str in nothingList select AccessTheWebAsync("1", cts.Token); delayedExecution = delayedExecution.Concat(delayedExecution2); } /// SNIP async Task AccessTheWebAsync(string nothing, CancellationToken ct) { // return a Task } I want to make sure that this won't spawn any task or evaluate anything. In fact, I suppose I'm asking "what logically executes an IQueryable to something that returns data"? Background Since I'm doing recursion and I don't want to execute this until the correct time, what is the correct way to merge the results if called multiple times? If it matters I'm thinking of running this command to launch all the tasks var AllRunningDataTasks = results.ToList(); followed by this code: while (AllRunningDataTasks.Count > 0) { // Identify the first task that completes. Task<TableResult> firstFinishedTask = await Task.WhenAny(AllRunningDataTasks); // ***Remove the selected task from the list so that you don't // process it more than once. AllRunningDataTasks.Remove(firstFinishedTask); // TODO: Await the completed task. var taskOfTableResult = await firstFinishedTask; // Todo: (doen't work) TrustState thisState = (TrustState)firstFinishedTask.AsyncState; // TODO: Update the concurrent dictionary with data // thisState.QueryStartPoint + thisState.ThingToSearchFor Interlocked.Decrement(ref thisState.RunningDirectQueries); Interlocked.Increment(ref thisState.CompletedDirectQueries); if (thisState.RunningDirectQueries == 0) { thisState.TimeCompleted = DateTime.UtcNow; } }

• Ant build script executing <sql> task using java code

- by Jay
Any idea, why none of the debugging comments are printed once after executing the ANT build script's SQL task via java code? The java class to execute the sql in build scirpt is public class AntRunnerTest { private Project project; public void executeTask(String taskName) { try { project = new Project(); project.init(); project.setBasedir(new String(".")); ProjectHelper helper = ProjectHelper.getProjectHelper(); project.addReference("ant.projectHelper", helper); helper.parse(project, new File("build-copy.xml")); System.out.println("Before"); project.executeTarget(taskName); System.out.println("After"); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex.getMessage()); } } public static void main(String args[]) { try { AntRunnerTest newInst = new AntRunnerTest(); newInst.executeTask("sql"); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println(""+e); } } } I dont see the debug String "After" getting printed in the console. I noticed this issue only when i try to execute a sql task using java code. The ant script has the following simple transaction tag in it. <transaction> select now() </transaction> Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

• How do I check to see if a scalar has a compiled regex in it with Perl?

- by Robert P
Let's say I have a subroutine/method that a user can call to test some data that (as an example) might look like this: sub test_output { my ($self, $test) = @_; my $output = $self->long_process_to_get_data(); if ($output =~ /\Q$test/) { $self->assert_something(); } else { $self->do_something_else(); } } Normally, $test is a string, which we're looking for anywhere in the output. This was an interface put together to make calling it very easy. However, we've found that sometimes, a straight string is problematic - for example, a large, possibly varying number of spaces...a pattern, if you will. Thus, I'd like to let them pass in a regex as an option. I could just do: $output =~ $test if I could assume that it's always a regex, but ah, but the backwards compatibility! If they pass in a string, it still needs to test it like a raw string. So in that case, I'll need to test to see if $test is a regex. Is there any good facility for detecting whether or not a scalar has a compiled regex in it?

• read files from directory and filter files from Java

- by Adnan
The following codes goes through all directories and sub-directories and outputs just .java files; import java.io.File; public class DirectoryReader { private static String extension = "none"; private static String fileName; public static void main(String[] args ){ String dir = "C:/tmp"; File aFile = new File(dir); ReadDirectory(aFile); } private static void ReadDirectory(File aFile) { File[] listOfFiles = aFile.listFiles(); if (aFile.isDirectory()) { listOfFiles = aFile.listFiles(); if(listOfFiles!=null) { for(int i=0; i < listOfFiles.length; i++ ) { if (listOfFiles[i].isFile()) { fileName = listOfFiles[i].toString(); int dotPos = fileName.lastIndexOf("."); if (dotPos > 0) { extension = fileName.substring(dotPos); } if (extension.equals(".java")) { System.out.println("FILE:" + listOfFiles[i] ); } } if(listOfFiles[i].isDirectory()) { ReadDirectory(listOfFiles[i]); } } } } } } Is this efficient? What could be done to increase the speed? All ideas are welcome.

• Structure map and generics (in XML config)

- by James D
Hi I'm using the latest StructureMap (2.5.4.264), and I need to define some instances in the xml configuration for StructureMap using generics. However I get the following 103 error: Unhandled Exception: StructureMap.Exceptions.StructureMapConfigurationException: StructureMap configuration failures: Error: 103 Source: Requested PluginType MyTest.ITest`1[[MyTest.Test,MyTest]] configured in Xml cannot be found Could not create a Type for 'MyTest.ITest`1[[MyTest.Test,MyTest]]' System.ApplicationException: Could not create a Type for 'MyTest.ITest`1[[MyTest.Test,MyTest]]' ---> System.TypeLoadException: Could not loa d type 'MyTest.ITest`1' from assembly 'StructureMap, Version=2.5.4.264, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=e60ad81abae3c223'. at System.RuntimeTypeHandle._GetTypeByName(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean loadTypeFromPartialName) at System.RuntimeTypeHandle.GetTypeByName(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.RuntimeType.PrivateGetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& s tackMark) at System.Type.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError) at StructureMap.Graph.TypePath.FindType() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at StructureMap.Graph.TypePath.FindType() at StructureMap.Configuration.GraphBuilder.ConfigureFamily(TypePath pluginTypePath, Action`1 action) A simply replication of the code is as follows: public interface ITest<T> { } public class Test { } public class Concrete : ITest<Test> { } Which I then wish to define in the XML configuration something as follows: <DefaultInstance PluginType="MyTest.ITest`1[[MyTest.Test,MyTest]],MyTest" PluggedType="MyTest.Concrete,MyTest" Scope="Singleton" /> I've been racking my brain, however I can't see what I'm doing wrong - I've used Type.GetType to verify the type actually is valid which it is. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks !

• Can't add/remove items from a collection while foreach is iterating over it

- by flockofcode
If I make my own implementation of IEnumerator interface, then I am able ( inside foreach statement )to add or remove items from a albumsList without generating an exception.But if foreach statement uses IEnumerator supplied by albumsList, then trying to add/delete ( inside the foreach )items from albumsList will result in exception: class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { string[] rockAlbums = { "rock", "roll", "rain dogs" }; ArrayList albumsList = new ArrayList(rockAlbums); AlbumsCollection ac = new AlbumsCollection(albumsList); foreach (string item in ac) { Console.WriteLine(item); albumsList.Remove(item); //works } foreach (string item in albumsList) { albumsList.Remove(item); //exception } } class MyEnumerator : IEnumerator { ArrayList table; int _current = -1; public Object Current { get { return table[_current]; } } public bool MoveNext() { if (_current + 1 < table.Count) { _current++; return true; } else return false; } public void Reset() { _current = -1; } public MyEnumerator(ArrayList albums) { this.table = albums; } } class AlbumsCollection : IEnumerable { public ArrayList albums; public IEnumerator GetEnumerator() { return new MyEnumerator(this.albums); } public AlbumsCollection(ArrayList albums) { this.albums = albums; } } } a) I assume code that throws exception ( when using IEnumerator implementation A supplied by albumsList ) is located inside A? b) If I want to be able to add/remove items from a collection ( while foreach is iterating over it), will I always need to provide my own implementation of IEnumerator interface, or can albumsList be set to allow adding/removing items? thank you

• Is locking on the requested object a bad idea?

- by Quick Joe Smith
Most advice on thread safety involves some variation of the following pattern: public class Thing { private static readonly object padlock = new object(); private string stuff, andNonsense; public string Stuff { get { lock (Thing.padlock) { if (this.stuff == null) this.stuff = "Threadsafe!"; } return this.stuff; } } public string AndNonsense { get { lock (Thing.padlock) { if (this.andNonsense == null) this.andNonsense = "Also threadsafe!"; } return this.andNonsense; } } // Rest of class... } In cases where the get operations are expensive and unrelated, a single locking object is unsuitable because a call to Stuff would block all calls to AndNonsense, degrading performance. And rather than create a lock object for each call, wouldn't it be better to acquire the lock on the member itself (assuming it is not something that implements SyncRoot or somesuch for that purpose? For example: public string Stuff { get { lock (this.stuff) { // Pretend that this is a very expensive operation. if (this.stuff == null) this.stuff = "Still threadsafe and good?"; } return this.stuff; } } Strangely, I have never seen this approach recommended or warned against. Am I missing something obvious?

• What is Wordpress doing for content encoding in it's mysql database?

- by qbxk
For some convoluted reasons best left behind us, I require direct access the contents of a wordpress database. I'm using mysql 5.0.70-r1 on gentoo with wordpress 2.6, and perl 5.8.8 ftr. So, sometimes we get high-order characters in the blog, we have quite a few authors contributing too, for the most part these characters end up in wp's database in wp_posts.post_content or wp_postmeta.meta_value, Wordpress is displaying these correctly on it's site, but the database stores it using single byte encoding that I can't figure out how to convert to the correct string. Today's example: the blog shows this, and doesn't even seem to escape any chars in the html, Hãhãhães but the database, when viewed via the mysql prompt, has, Hãhãhães So clearly this is some kind of double-byte encoding issue, but I don't know how I can correct it. I need to be able to pull that second string from the database (b/c that's what it gives me) and convert it to the first one, and i need to do so using perl. also, just to help unmuddy any waters, I took these strings and printed out the ascii codes for each character using perl's ord() function. Here is the output of the "wrong" string H = 72 à = 195 £ = 163 h = 104 à = 195 £ = 163 h = 104 à = 195 £ = 163 e = 101 s = 115 This is the correct string, that I need to produce in my script H = 72 ã = 227 h = 104 ã = 227 h = 104 ã = 227 e = 101 s = 115

• Java: any problems/negative sides of keeping SoftReference to ArrayList in HttpSession?

Any disadvantages? Which I do not see? Thank you!

• how to change type of value in an php array and sorting it..is it possible ?

- by justjoe
hi, i got problem with my code and hopefully someone able to figure it out. The main purpose is to sort array based on its value (then reindex its numerical key). i got this sample of filename : $filename = array("index 198.php", "index 192.php", "index 144.php", "index 2.php", "index 1.php", "index 100.php", "index 111.php"); $alloutput = array(); //all of index in array foreach ($filename as $name) { preg_match('#(\d+)#', $name, $output); // take only the numerical from file name array_shift($output); // cleaned. the last code create duplicate numerical in $output, if (is_array($hasilku)) { $alloutput = array_merge($alloutput, $output); } } //try to check the type of every value in array foreach ($alloutput as $output) { if (is_array($hasil)) { echo "array true
"; } elseif (is_int($hasil)) { echo "integer true
"; } elseif (is_string($hasil)) { //the numerical taken from filename always resuld "string". echo "string true
"; } } the output of this code will be : Array ( [0] = 198 [1] = 192 [2] = 144 [3] = 2 [4] = 1 [5] = 100 [6] = 111 ) i have test every output in array. It's all string (and not numerical), So the question is how to change this string to integer, so i can sort it from the lowest into the highest number ? the main purpose of this code is how to output array where it had been sort from lowest to highest ?

• Facebook style messaging system schema design

- by Jamie
Hi all, I'm looking to implement a facebook style messaging system (thread messages) into a site of mine. Do you think this schema markup looks okay? Doctrine schema.yml: UserMessage: tableName: user_message actAs: [Timestampable] columns: id: { type: integer(10), primary: true, autoincrement: true } sender_id : { type: integer(10), notnull: true } sender_read: { type: boolean, default: 1 } subject: { type: string(255), notnull: true } message: { type: string(1000), notnull: true } hash: { type: string(32), notnull: true } relations: UserMessageRecipient as Recipient: type: many local: id foreign: message_id UserMessageReply as Reply: type: many local: id foreign: message_id UserMessageReply: tableName: user_message_reply columns: id: { type: integer(10), primary: true, autoincrement: true } user_message_id as message_id: { type: integer(10), notnull: true } message: { type: string(1000), notnull: true } sender_id: { type: integer(10), notnull: true } relations: UserMessage as Message: local: message_id foreign: id type: one UserMessageRecipient: tableName: user_message_recipient actAs: [Timestampable] columns: id: { type: integer(10), primary: true, autoincrement: true } user_message_id as message_id: { type: integer(10), notnull: true } recipient_id: { type: integer(10), notnull: true } recipient_read: { type: boolean, default: 0 } When I a new reply is made,i'll make sure the boolean for "recipient_read" for each recipient is set to false and of course i'll make sure sender_read is set to false too. I'm using a hash for the URL: http://example.com/user/messages/aadeb18f8bdaea49882ec4d2a8a3c062 (As the id will be starting from 1, i don't wish to have http://example.com/user/messages/1. Yeah, I could start incrementing from a bigger number, but i'd prefer to start at 1.) Is this a good way to go about it? Your thoughts and suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Thanks guys!

• Static Logger in seperate thread?

- by SirLenz0rlot
Hi all, I've made my Logger, that logs a string, a static class with a static so I can call it from my entire project without having to make an instance of it. quite nice, but I want to make it run in a seperate thread, since accessing the file costs time is that possible somehow and what's the best way to do it? Its a bit of a short discription, but I hope the idea is clear. if not, please let me know. Thanks in advance! btw: any other improvements on my code are welcome as well, i have the feeling not everthing is as efficient as it can be: internal static class MainLogger { internal static void LogStringToFile(string logText) { DateTime timestamp = DateTime.Now; string str = timestamp.ToString("dd-MM-yy HH:mm:ss ", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) + "\t" + logText + "\n"; const string filename = Constants.LOG_FILENAME; FileInfo fileInfo = new FileInfo(filename); if (fileInfo.Exists) { if (fileInfo.Length > Constants.LOG_FILESIZE) { File.Create(filename).Dispose(); } } else { File.Create(filename).Dispose(); } int i = 0; while(true) { try { using (StreamWriter writer = File.AppendText(filename)) { writer.WriteLine(str); } break; } catch (IOException) { Thread.Sleep(10); i++; if (i >= 8) { throw new IOException("Log file \"" + Constants.LOG_FILENAME + "\" not accessible after 5 tries"); } } } } } enter code here

• Regex Replacing only whole matches

- by Leen Balsters
I am trying to replace a bunch of strings in files. The strings are stored in a datatable along with the new string value. string contents = File.ReadAllText(file); foreach (DataRow dr in FolderRenames.Rows) { contents = Regex.Replace(contents, dr["find"].ToString(), dr["replace"].ToString()); File.SetAttributes(file, FileAttributes.Normal); File.WriteAllText(file, contents); } The strings look like this _-uUa, -_uU, _-Ha etc. The problem that I am having is when for example this string "_uU" will also overwrite "_-uUa" so the replacement would look like "newvaluea" Is there a way to tell regex to look at the next character after the found string and make sure it is not an alphanumeric character? I hope it is clear what I am trying to do here. Here is some sample data: private function _-0iX(arg1:flash.events.Event):void { if (arg1.type == flash.events.Event.RESIZE) { if (this._-2GU) { this._-yu(this._-2GU); } } return; } The next characters could be ;, (, ), dot, comma, space, :, etc.

It must be either an IListSource, IEnumerable, or IDataSource. GridView1.DataBind(); } From WSDL metadata i can get the follwing info public DDCReturnGetAll GetAllDDCs(Guid accountId, Guid authToken); public class DDCReturnGetAll : DDCReturnBase { public DDCReturnGetAll(); public DDCInfo2[] DDCs { get; set; } } public class DDCInfo2 { public DDCInfo2(); public BrandingType brandingType { get; set; } public string ChargebackName { get; set; } public string CollectorName { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string URL { get; set; } }

• Compare Properties automatically

- by juergen d
I want to get the names of all properties that changed for matching objects. I have these (simplified) classes: public enum PersonType { Student, Professor, Employee } class Person { public string Name { get; set; } public PersonType Type { get; set; } } class Student : Person { public string MatriculationNumber { get; set; } } class Subject { public string Name { get; set; } public int WeeklyHours { get; set; } } class Professor : Person { public List<Subject> Subjects { get; set; } } Now I want to get the objects where the Property values differ: List<Person> oldPersonList = ... List<Person> newPersonList = ... List<Difference> = GetDifferences(oldPersonList, newPersonList); public List<Difference> GetDifferences(List<Person> oldP, List<Person> newP) { //how to check the properties without casting and checking //for each type and individual property?? //can this be done with Reflection even in Lists?? } In the end I would like to have a list of Differences like this: class Difference { public List<string> ChangedProperties { get; set; } public Person NewPerson { get; set; } public Person OldPerson { get; set; } } The ChangedProperties should contain the name of the changed properties.

• public class ImageHandler : IHttpHandler

- by Ken
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@id", new system.Guid (imageid)); What using System reference would this require? Here is the handler: using System; using System.Collections.Specialized; using System.Web; using System.Web.Configuration; using System.Web.Security; using System.Globalization; using System.Configuration; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Data; using System.IO; using System.Web.Profile; using System.Drawing; public class ImageHandler : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { string imageid; if (context.Request.QueryString["id"] != null) imageid = (context.Request.QueryString["id"]); else throw new ArgumentException("No parameter specified"); context.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg"; Stream strm = ShowProfileImage(imageid.ToString()); byte[] buffer = new byte[8192]; int byteSeq = strm.Read(buffer, 0, 8192); while (byteSeq > 0) { context.Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, byteSeq); byteSeq = strm.Read(buffer, 0, 8192); } //context.Response.BinaryWrite(buffer); } public Stream ShowProfileImage(String imageid) { string conn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyConnectionString1"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(conn); string sql = "SELECT image FROM Profile WHERE UserId = @id"; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, connection); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@id", new system.Guid (imageid));//Failing Here!!!! connection.Open(); object img = cmd.ExecuteScalar(); try { return new MemoryStream((byte[])img); } catch { return null; } finally { connection.Close(); } } public bool IsReusable { get { return false; } } }

• Java Class<T> static method forName() IncompatibleClassChangeError

- by matt
Hi, i have this code: private static Importable getRightInstance(String s) throws Exception { Class<? extends Importable> c = Class.forName(s).asSubclass(Importable.class); Importable i = c.newInstance(); return i; } which i can also write private static Importable getRightInstance(String s) throws Exception { Class<? extends Importable> c = (Class<? extends Importable>)Class.forName(s); Importable i = c.newInstance(); return i; } or private static Importable getRightInstance(String s) throws Exception { Class<?> c = Class.forName(s); Importable i = (Importable)c.newInstance(); return i; } where Importable is an interface and s is a string representing an implementing class. Well, in any case it gives the following: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError: class C1 has interface Importable as super class Here is the last snippet of the stack trace: at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:169) at Importer.getRightImportable(Importer.java:33) at Importer.importAll(Importer.java:44) at Test.main(Test.java:16) Now, class C1 actually implemens Importable and i totally don't understand why it complaints. Thanks in advance.

• Automapping Collections

- by vaibhav
I am using Automapper for mapping my domain model and DTO. When I map Mapper.Map<SiteDTO, SiteEntity> it works fine. But when I use collections of the same entities, it doesn't map. Mapper.Map<Collection<SiteEntity>, Collection<SiteDTO>>(siteEntityCollection); AS per Automapper Wiki, it says the lists implementing ICollection would be mapped, I am using Collection that implements ICollection, but automapper doesn't map it. Am I doing something wrong. public class SiteEntity //SiteDTO has exactly the same properties, so I am not posting it here. { public int SiteID { get; set; } public string Code { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public byte Status { get; set; } public int ModifiedBy { get; set; } public DateTime ModifiedDate{ get; set; } public long TimeStamp{ get; set; } public string Description{ get; set; } public string Notes{ get; set; } public ObservableCollection<AreaEntity> Areas{ get; set; } }
