• Any Other Distros with Gnome 2.32?

  I've used Ubuntu for almost a year and I pretty much don't like the Unity environment and I installed BackTrack R3 in my laptop which uses GNOME 2.32 and I'm much impressed with that and made a decision to move to GNOME but, it is currently in version 3.x and it has been said that there is no GNOME 2.x versions are supported. I don't like the new GNOME and surfed the internet for finding a distro with that version and support. But, I can't find one. Can you specify a good distro with GNOME 2.x and Debian package installers?

  I have tried upgrading in the past with zero success doing a backup of stuff and futilely attempting to enter my stuff into the new version. My email accounts and folders, my bookmarks and web browser info and of course my photos. In the past I have received messages that the back up files were done using version XXX and cannot be read by the new system, as an example. I need a hand-holding tutorial to go from 11.04 to 12.10. My asterisk .call file looks like this: Channel: SIP/flowroute/1234567890 Context: test Extension: 1234567890 Priority: 1 Here's my extensions.conf: [test] exten => _1NXXXXXXXXX,1,Set(CALLERID(num)=8005552222) exten => _1NXXXXXXXXX,n,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN}@flowroute) exten => _1NXXXXXXXXX,n,Playback(hello-world) When I receive the call, the caller id number is 1-206-445-6979, even though the CDR log has both src and clid set to 8005552222. I'm using flowroute as my carrier. Is there something wrong on their side?

• Distro that I can load into RAM?

  Is there a modified version of Ubuntu that I can choose to load to RAM on start up? Kinda like the LiveCD, but that can be easily modified (ie: I can install stuff) when I choose to boot from disk. The idea is to install it to a USB drive. I know there's something similar but slax is lacking in many departments. A "full" version Ubuntu would be better. A LiveUSB installation seems to be pretty close to what I want, but apparently I have to choose whether or not it will be persistent by the time I install it. I want to be able to choose that every time I boot.

• Limit a process's relative (not absolute) processor consumption in Linux

  What is the standard way in Linux to enforce a system policy to limit the relative CPU use of a single process? That is, on a quad-core machine, I never want a process to use more than 2 CPUs at once, even if the process creates more threads. I do not want an absolute time limit, just a relative limit so that one task cannot dominate the machine. This is also different than renice, which allows a process to use all the resources but just politely step aside if others need them too. ulimit is the usual resource limiting tool, but it does not allow such CPU restrictions.. it can limit the number of processes per user, or absolute CPU time, not restrict the maximum number of active threads of a single process. I've found a couple of user-level tools, like CPUlimit, but not a system level tool or setting. Does such a standard resource controller exist in Linux (Red Hat Enterprise, if it matters.) If there is such a limit imposed, how would a user identify it?

  Bonjour, Je lance ce débat pour parler d'ActivePerl. En fait, il y a quelques années, il n' y avait que la version 5.8 (pour ne pas parler de la 5.6) qui évoluée régulièrement. Pendant ce temps, le développement de la 5.10 suivait son cours. Puis, nous nous sommes retrouvés avec 2 versions en évolutions. Il a fallu quelques mois pour espérer avoir nos sympathiques modules Perl du CPAN compatibles sur les deux versions. Maintenant la politique d'ActivePerl est de proposer une version stable chaque année. C'est intéressant car Perl est très maintenu et évolue bien, mais sincèrement, on se retrouve avec x versions de Perl et on s'y perd. Actuellement, il y a 4 versions d'ActivePerl 5.8, 5.10, 5.12 et 5.14, et je ne parle pas de Perl6, Parro...

  I have a bunch of old files prefixed with "old-" (e.g. "old-abcde.php"). I need an htaccess rule to set up a 301 redirect so that any request for a file starting with "old-" goes to its corresponding new version (e.g. "abcde.php"). To be clear, I have many files, not just one, so I can't do a literal filename match. I basically just need to strip off the "old-" from request and redirect to the version without it. I know I probably just need a simple regular expression, but I'm not good at writing them. Can anyone provide assistance?

• Help! Requesting a change of URL on Yahoo Directory!

  I submitted a couple websites on yahoo directory a month ago. For some reason, the url they listed was not the url I asked for, they listed the Japanese version instead of the submitted English version (this is a English directory so obviously it is a mistake). I requested changes and was accepted. But the reality is they promised a change but it was never really done. I contacted them again and again through the 'request a change in URL' form, but there is no answer. Is there any effective way that I can get to them? preferably a phone number or email?   I have problem with nvidia graphics driver opensource and proprietary ! Can't change resolution on 3d games and there's a bug there are no kernel sources installed and thus jockey can't install proprietary drivers. I can't change resolution while on games fullscreen. I tried to install proprietary driver and i couldn't plus i couldn't login to ubuntu it showed only the desktop photo no dash no nothing. -tried to install kernel sources and blacklist+remove Nouveau drivers and then installed the proprietary drivers i hope succesfully. -The problem is the same i can't change resolution on 3d games while on fullscreen. I've installed the sources and be able to install the proprietary nvidia drivers but the problem remains, look what i got in the output of a 3d game exited while i tried to change resolution: X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 150 (XFree86-VidModeExtension) Minor opcode of failed request: 10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode) Value in failed request: 0x25b Serial number of failed request: 497 Current serial number in output stream: 499 I'm giving you more details about my system: i have an nvidia geforce gts 250 , 3,4 ghz quadcore amd phenom2 , 8gbytes of ram.   The StreamInsight Team is proud to announce the release of StreamInsight V2.0! This is the version that ships with SQL 2012, and as such it has been available through Connect to SQL CTP customers already since December. As part of the SQL 2012 launch activities, we are now making V2.0 available to everyone, following our tradition of providing a separate download page. StreamInsight V2.0 includes a number of stability and performance fixes over its predecessor V1.2. Moreover it introduces a dependency on the .NET Framework 4.0, as well as on SQL 2012 license keys. For these reasons, we decided to bump the major version number, even though V2.0 does not add new features or API surface.   I'm (very slowly) making a website, and I'm creating a search engine for the database, which is essential to organize the dependencies during data entry. Anyway, what I would like is to type a few keywords into a box, have a menu pop up with various search results, and have the box fill with the ID number of the selected entry when it's clicked. Currently, I have a document called search.php which fills a div called search-output using xmlhttp.open() and the innerhtml property. Everything is working perfectly except for filling the original search box with the ID number when clicking. My first attempt was to add an onclick event to each entry in the output from search.php. Unfortunately, I found that javascript inserted into innerhtml is not run for security reasons. I've been Googling for hours but haven't been able to find a solution. How can I get the original search text box to fill with the correct ID when I click it? Is what I'm doing a good setup for the results I desire, or is there a better way to integrate search features into data entry?

  I have a NAS where I don't have a possibility to create and manage partitions (maybe I could with some hacks that I don't want to make). What ways to setup multiple ZFS pools with one partition each (for starters - just want to use deduplication) exist? The setup should work with the NAS, i.e. over network (I'd mount the images via NFS or cifs). My ideas and associated issues so far: sparse files mounted over loop device (specifying sparse file directly as ZFS vdev doesn't work, see Can I choose a sparse file as vdev for a zfs pool?): problem that the name/number of the assigned loop device is anything but constant, not sure how increasing the number loop device with kernel parameter affects performance (there has to be a reason to limit it to 8 in the default value, right?)

• Restore Point area getting deleted

  Hi, I'm running a multi-boot scenario (which I have been successfully on a number of machines for a number of years). I have Windows 7 (32 bit) on one partition and Windows 7 (64 bit) on another and a common data partition (which happens to store the user hives for each OS instance). For some reason, on one particular machine (a HP Pavilion notebook) the restore points get trashed after a reboot. I can create them (both manually and automatically), but after some (but not all) reboots the restore points get trashed. I have all three partitions set (on both OSs) to hold restore information. This setup has worked successfully on other machines for at least 12 months. I'm out of ideas... I DO need the restore points as I do "bleeding edge" stuff and they've saved my bacon on other machines in the past... TIA, Paolo
