• Custom ASP.NET MVC cache controllers in a shared hosting environment?

  I'm using custom controllers that cache static resources (CSS, JS, etc.) and images. I'm currently working with a hosting provider that has set me up under a full trust profile. Despite being in full trust, my controllers fail because the caching strategy relies on the File class to directly open a resource file prior to treatment and storage in memory. Is this something that would likely occur in all full trust shared hosting environments or is this specific to my host? The static files live within my application's structure and not in an arbitrary server path. It seems to me that custom caching would require code to access the file directly, and am hoping someone else has dealt with this issue.

• Creating a notification system using a firefox extension

  I am creating a firefox extension that should give a notification when the user hits specific sites. I do not want the same kind of notification that firefox gives for pop-ups. I don't want the user to have to go through the hassle of clicking the X in order to close the notification. Instead, I would like it to look like what happens when a normal firefox download is completed - a notification comes up, and automatically goes after a few seconds. On a mac, it looks like a growl notification, and I love the way it looks. Is there an easy way to implement this feature? Thanks

• Issues with dynamic <title> in PHP

  I have the code below: <?php $title = "Result Computation" ; ?> <title> <?php echo $title ; ?> </title> I'm using includes to call the header on all the pages, but what i want to do is that on every page i want to make it generate a specific title. On each page i've added $title = "Page Title" ; So that when the page loads it gets the title from the $title i've set on that page, but it the pages keep getting the default Title. • Curser control using Masked Text Box in C#

  I seem to have asked this question twice ! I kept getting a message saying New Members can only add a new Question every 20 minutes, try again later !!! Sorry for the duplication ! Please ignore this one !! Thanks. In my app in C# I have several input fields that I need to capture. I need them to be of specific sizes and type and I have used masked Text Boxes for these. I have fields like name which is 20 text charachters long, and a certificate number which is 5 numeric characters with a preceding C etc. This works fine except with I click on a field with the mouse, the cursor does not go to the begining of the fild, or the end of any input text. Is there a way of allowing this to happen using Masked Text Box or will I have to use normal Text Box and do all the field validation manually ?

  Hi All, I am trying to set up a Approval workflow when item created and item updated event on a list and then update the approval status as workflow complete. Now when I create a new Item the workflow kicks off as expected. When I edit the same item and approve the item new workflow get started as the item get edit. It seems to be workflow falls in loop if I se an Approval workflow on new item created and Item Edit events. I Google for it and I found that Microsoft has come up with hotfix to overcome this issue. I have installed it on my machine but still the problem persist. Is there are any prerequisites needed for this ? or any other service pack or specific version of service pack needs be installed on machine to make this hotfix running. • Can a Flash-based CFGRID render basic HTML in the cells?

  (I'm very new to both Flex and CF -- more a .NET/ExtJS guy, so I'm a duck out of water.) I'm tweaking someone else's CFGRID code. It uses Flash format--HTML isn't an option since it would require redesigning the entire interface around the grid. Tha data I want to put in the grid have some very simple HTML elements-- <sub>, <sup>, and HTML entities like &deg;. I can imagine <i> or <b> might be there in the future. How can I tell a particular CFGRIDCOLUMN to render its contents as HTML? I've heard this is possible, but Google is not my friend tonight. Stuck with CF7 for a few more weeks, so if there are any CF8/CF9-specific solutions, please let me know those as well, but that won't help my immediate need.

• How do you determine with CLLocationManager when a user denies access to location services?

  With CLLocationManager I can use the following code to determine if I can access location services on the device. This is the master setting for all apps and can be turned on and off. if (self.locationManager.locationServicesEnabled) { [self.locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; } But a user can deny access to an individual app and in order to not execute the code to use the location manager I need to know if the user approved access to location services for this specific app. I saw that at one point there was a property called locationServicesApproved which appears it would indicate if the user approved access to location services in this app. But it was removed in 2008.   Hi, I am trying to understand why this statement in the book is wrong: "given a C entity, there is at most one related A entity and at most one related B entity". Is it that it doesn't apply to a specific kind of relationship?? So, if I have an example of a student who is in attendance to a course with a type of subject. The entities are student, attendance, course and subject. Student makes attendance in a room. Also, a student can make attendance for a subject. Does this example apply to the statement? • 'Generic' ViewModel

  Using EF 4, I have several subtypes of a 'Business' entity (customers, suppliers, haulage companies etc). They DO need to be subtypes. I am building a general viewmodel which calls into a service from which a generic repository is accessed. As I have 4 subtypes, it would be good to have a 'generic' viewmodel used for all of these. Problem is of course is that I have to call a specific type into my generic repository, for example: BusinessToRetrieve = _repository .LoadEntity<Customer>(o => o.CustomerID == customerID); It would be good to be able to call <SomethingElse>, somethingElse being one or other of the subtypes), otherwise I shall have to create 4 near identical viemodels, which seems a waste of course! The subtype entity name is available to the viewmodel but I've been unable to figure out how to make the above call convert this into a type. An issue with achieving what I want is that presumably the lambda expression being passed in wouldn't be able to resolve on a 'generic' call ?

• Is there any way to get MSVC to pass structs arguments in registers on x64?

  For a function with signature: struct Pair { void *v1, *v2 }; void f(Pair p); compiled on x64, I would like Pair's fields to be passed via register, as if the function was: void f(void *v1, void *v2); Compiling a test with gcc 4.2.1 for x86_64 on OSX 10.6, I can see this is exactly what happens by examining the disassembly. However, compiling with MSVC 2008 for x64 on Windows, the disassembly shows that Pair is passed on the stack. I understand that platform ABIs can prevent this optimization; does anyone know any MSVC-specific annotations, calling conventions, flags, or other hacks that can get this to work? Thank you!

• Installing unsigned x64 driver to work with libusbdotnet

  Hi all- I am currently in a Windows 7 dev. environment working to get a device to initialize with libusbdotnet. The device (a USB mass storage device) connects and runs using the default USB-MASS Storage driver for Windows. I want to replace this driver with the one created by the .INF Wizard in libusbdotnet. The operating system is a 64-bit, and by default the INF Wizard produces this driver, but I am unable to selected it because it is "unsigned" I believed, when I go to "Pick from a list of drivers" and point to the directory where the newly created device drivers are. I have enabled "TEST MODE" using DESO but I'm still unable to select this file. Anyone familiar with libusbdotnet, or directing devices to work with a specific driver that is unsigned in Window (do I need the .inf file? or the .sys???) do you have any advice about where I'm going wrong? • Lucene search taking TOOO long.

  I;m using Lucene.net (2.9.2.2) on a (currently) 70Gig index.. I can do a fairly complicated search and get all the document IDs back in 1 ~ 2 seconds.. But to actually load up all the hits (about 700 thousand in my test queries) takes 5+ minutes. We aren't using lucene for UI, this is a datastore between processes where we have hundreds of millions of pre-cached data elements, and the part I am working on exports a few specific fields from each found document. (ergo, pagination doesn't make since as this is an export between processes). My question is what is the best way to get all of the documents in a search result? currently I am using a custom collector that does a get on the document (with a MapFieldSelector) as its collecting.. I've also tried iterating through the list after the collector has finished.. but that was even worse. I'm open to ideas :-). Thanks in advance.

  Hi, i have a question regarding some complex data-binding. I want to be able to update a grid (which has the property "IsItemsHost" set to true) dynamically whenever a data-binding occurs. To be more specific, i bind the grid to some items and i want to change the number of grid rows depending on these items, add something like a header (one row containing some text), and set the items' Grid.Row and Grid.Column using some custom logic. What is the easiest way to apply such behaviour whenever the bound data is updated? Do i have to use a viewmodel that also contains the header data? Thanks in advance.

• Determine iPhone user's country

  I need to determine at startup what country a user is in, for an iPhone application. Presumably I will have to turn on location services and do some sort of reverse geocoding. I don't really want to use a third party web service if possible, are there any other suggestions for determining country from what location services provides? Initially, I only need to check whether the user is inside the US or not, but this may change in the future to add more countries. I understand that location can not always be determined or the user may have location services turned off. Basically, I just need to know if the user is detected as being inside the US, in order to turn off a specific feature.

• Gmail freezes on display:none

  Hi, I have a "div" which i insert in everypage, inside which resides my plugin. In certain pages where i might not need to use the plugin, i do a display:none on the div. This seems to work perfectly fine in all browsers. The only exception to this seems to be the "google.com" pages. Whether it be the search page or the gmail page, it seems to freeze once i do this display:none. By freeze i mean that none of the links are clickable after this. Is there something specific with these pages that i'm missing?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

• IntelliJ: Adding resources to the class path, but still gives me "java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle.... locale en_US"

  I am quite new to intellij and i have loaded in a project that i wish to compile, everything seems to be going well, but when i compile it. I get the bundle cannot be found. java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name openfire_i18n, locale en_US at java.util.ResourceBundle.throwMissingResourceException(ResourceBundle.java:1499) After doing some investigation, it appears i have to include the resources in the class path, is this correct? I have done Project Settings, Modules, Dependencies, and i added a "Jars or directories" There is a checkbox that says Export, i have tried clicking it and unclicking it :-) My resources i can see are in i8n\ResourceBundle I tried adding the i8n and it asked me for a category for selected files, i put classes RUN - but still same error.. so i tried adding the i8n/ResourceBundle directory RUN - still same error. I notice under my ResourceBundle directory there are C:\Dev\Java\openfire_src_3_7_1\openfire_src\src\i18n\openfire_i18n_en.properties but there is no specific en_US but i thought it supposed to fallback to EN ?? SO i think everything is ok. Can anyone help I am really stuck Thanks

  Say I want to create a sort of Pre-processor for existing java code, so I can get the language specific keywords and objects, and then create routines that convert them to their Csharp equivalents, using Csharp code - what route should this take? I'm thinking of Regular Expressions, but I'm fuzzed. I have a bunch of about a 100 .java files and I need to convert them to csharp code in record time. I have manually done just about five of them and I have serious headaches already. Or are there any tools out there that already do that?

• Advanced Java book in the lines of CLR via c# or C# in Depth?

  I want to learn about how things work in depth in Java. Coming from a c# background, there were a couple of very good books that go really deep in c# (C# in depth, CLR via c#, just to name the most popular). Is there anything like that in Java? I searched it up on amazon but nothing seemed to go that deep in Java as the two above go in c#. I don't want to know more about specific classes, or how to use this library or that other library, I want to learn how the objects are created on memory, how they get created on the stack, heap, etc. A more fundamental knowledge, let's say. I've read some chapters of Effective Java and The Java Programming Language but they don't seem to go so deep as I'd want them to go. Maybe there are other people that know both c# and Java that have read any of the referred books and know any that might be useful? Thanks

  Hi, Say that i have an active directory group called "Group1". I add this Group1 to a SharePoint site ( People and Group New User). All the users that are part of Group1 can now access sharepoint site. Now,for a specific custom webpart, i need to target to only users who belong to Group1. But when a user who belongs to Group1 logs into the sharepoint site, i am not finding a way to determine from within SharePoint context if this user belongs to Group1. Any thoughts? Thanks, Faiz
