• Reading Active Directory group users in SharePoint

  Hi, Say that i have an active directory group called "Group1". I add this Group1 to a SharePoint site ( People and Group New User). All the users that are part of Group1 can now access sharepoint site. Now,for a specific custom webpart, i need to target to only users who belong to Group1. But when a user who belongs to Group1 logs into the sharepoint site, i am not finding a way to determine from within SharePoint context if this user belongs to Group1. Any thoughts? Thanks, Faiz

• Table and Column names causing problems

  I have an issue when the T4 linq templates generate the classes for my MySql db using subsonic 3. It looks like one of our table names "operator" is causing problems in the Context.cs generated class. In the following line of code in Context.cs Visual Studio sees <operator> as a c# operator and generates a compilation error of "Type expected" public Query<operator> operators { get; set; } Is there anyway I can work around this without having to rename my database table and column names? For example hard coding something in Settings.ttinclude to use or map different names to specific db tables and columns?

• Mysql out of disk space

  I have just finished developing a rails app which has a mysql db as a backend. The app is meant for high traffic and will store lots of information. I am planning to set up my own web server and host the site from it. If in future my disk space runs out i would want to expand by adding more space. But say if my mysql database is housed in my /disk0s1 and by adding a new drive i have more partitions (and hence more disk space), how then would i extend my database to store information on those partitions too, and at the same time prevent any information from being written on the original partition. Should i go for multiple databases? if so how? If i went for a hosting solution i wouldn't be bothering about this as i would just have to worry about making payments for the extra space :) I always wondered how space is added on-the-go by these webhosts. Is there any specific mysql configuration that i have to make?

I need a solution that: Does not get messed up if */ is present inside <block_of_code> Is sure to generate 0 instructions in release even inside inline functions at any depth (i guess this excludes if (false){<block_of_code>} right?)   Hi, we have a system where we collect data every second on user activity on multiple web sites. we dump that data into a database X (say MS SQL Server). we now need to fetch data from this single table from daatbase X and insert into database Y (say mySql). we want to fetch time based data from database X through multiple threads so that we fetch as fast as we can. Once fetched and stored in database Y, we will delete data from database X. Are there any best practices on this sort of design? any specific things to take care on table design like sharing or something? Are there any other things that we need to take care to make sure we fetch it as fast as we can from threads running on multiple machines? Thanks in advance! Ravi

  Hi guys! I'm trying to create permalink like behavior for some article titles and i don't want to add a new db field for permalink. So i decided to write a helper that will convert my article title from: "O "focoasa" a pornit cruciada, împotriva barbatilor zgârciti" to "o-focoasa-a-pornit-cruciada-impotriva-barbatilor-zgarciti". While i figured out how to replace spaces with hyphens and remove other special characters (other than -) using: title.gsub(/\s/, "-").gsub(/[^\w-]/, '').downcase I am wondering if there is any other way to replace a character with a specific other character from only one .gsub method call, so I won't have to chain title.gsub("a", "a") methods for all the UTF-8 special characters of my localization. I was thinking of building a hash with all the special characters and their counterparts but I haven't figured out yet how to use variables with regexps. What I was looking for is something like: title.gsub(/\s/, "-").gsub(*replace character goes here*).gsub(/[^\w-]/, '').downcase Thanks!

  Hi all, I have found that user can associate help with his application using Help Viewer. Users typically launch Help Viewer by choosing the application help item from the Help menu, or by typing a query in the Spotlight For Help text field in the Help menu. I have some different requirement: I want to associate component specific help to my application, means that there will be a small '?' marked icon at bottom left corner of a window and when user clicks it, appropriate help page will open. • How do I avoid an infinite loop when overriding a virtual property?

  Is it possible to ignore set and get when I'm assigning to or retrieving a value? In specific, I'm inheriting from a class that has a property declared like this: virtual public Int32 Value { get; set; } What I'd like to do is to override it and do something useful in those set and get's. The problem appears when I override it, I also have to manually assign, or return the value from the property. If I do something like this: override public Int32 Value { get { return this.Value; } set { this.Value = value; // do something useful } Then I'm creating an infinite loop. Is there a way to set or get the value without invoking the code in set and get, or do I have to make a separate name for the actual variable?

  Hi I have an integer column and I want to find numbers that start with specific digits. For example they do match if I look for '123': 1234567 123456 1234 They do not match: 23456 112345 0123445 Is the only way to handle the task by converting the Integers into Strings before doing string comparison? Also I am using Postgre regexp_replace(text, pattern, replacement) on numbers which is very slow and inefficient way doing it. The case is that I have large amount of data to handle this way and I am looking for the most economical way doing this.

• Using SSIS to send a HTML E-Mail Message with built-in table of Counts.

  For the record, this can be just as easily done with a .NET class with a DLL call.  The two major reasons for this ending up as a SSIS package are: There are a lot of SQL resources for maintenance, but not as many .NET developers. • ActiveX controls with old Delphi versions

  I'm testing a non visual ActiveX control based on a registered .ocx which I import into Delphi using the provided wizard. Then, I simply put the generated component on the main form of a new VCL application. Under old Delphi versions (D5 and D2007), when i launch the application, this raise an AV during the component initialization. with Delphi 2009 : no problem, the application starts smoothly. My questions are : Are there known enhancements of ActiveX management in recent Delphi versions which can explain this difference ? Can I suspect a bug in the ActiveX control, or can I consider the origin of the problem is from old Delphi versions ? I need to use this component (if tests OK) in D2007. Do you think that it is possible to correct the AV problem under D2007 by modifying the D2007 generated .tlb file (for example by trying to use the D2009 generated one) PS: the ActiveX control is not named, because my question is a general question about Delphi and ActiveX, not about a specific ActiveX control.

• Robustly killing Windows programs stuck reporting 'problems'

  I am looking for a means to kill a Windows exe program that, when being tested from a python script, crashes and presents a dialog to the user; as this program is invoked many times, and may crash repeatedly, this is not suitable. The problem dialog is the standard reporting of a Windows error: "Foo.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and offers a Debug, Send Error Report, and Don't Send buttons. I am able to kill other forms of dialog resulting from crashes (e.g. a Debug build's assert failure dialog is OK.) I have tried taskkill.exe, pskill, and the terminate() function on the Popen object from the subprocess module that was used to invoke the .exe Has anyone encountered this specific issue, and found a resolution? I expect automating user input to select the window, and press the "Don't Send" button is one possible solution, but I would like something far simpler if possible

  I'm using the IE control embedded in an application. Works as advertised. When a user opens a new browser window I intercept the NewWindow2 event and force it into a new tab. However for a certain class of windows I want to allow a popup. Most notably a few windows legacy applications that use popup windows instead of Ajax for Date or Name pickers. How can I figure out that a window was requested by JavaScript window.open(...) or with a specific size? Thx for helping.

• Lost values with XML Deserializion

For some reason, I have a problem regarding Rating value that gets lost when I load from XML (using void LoadFromXML(string path) method. The following code prints 0 although actual value is 5: BookStore b = new BookStore(); b.LoadFromXML(Server.MapPath("list.xml")); Label1.Text = b.BooksList[0].Rating.ToString(); Please note: only the specific Rating parameter is lost. • Dashcode and firefox compatibility

  Hi all, I started to use Dashcode with a Safari Custom Project, my apps work fine, but StackLayout Object does not work in Firefox. I know Dashcode use many wekbit-specific things but is there any way I can get StackLayout object o work in Firefox? I would not mind losing some fancy stuff like transition-animations as long as my Views change. StackLayout also does not work in IE, but I think that is too much to expect from IE. lol. Any suggestions, ideas? Maybe jQuery or Dojo libraries can be used with DashCode in case webkit is not available?. in this case how can I do this? Thanks.

  I am configuring a distutils-based setup.py for a python module that is to be installed on a heterogeneous set of resources. Due to the heterogeneity, the location where the module is installed is not the same on each host however disutils picks the host-specific location. I find that the module is installed without o+rx permissions using disutils (in spite of setting umask ahead of running setup.py). One solution is to manually correct this problem, however I would like an automated means that works on heterogeneous install targets. For example, is there a way to extract the ending location of the installation from within setup.py? Any other suggestions? Thanks! SetJmp

  Hi, I have a one-to-many mapping between a parent entity and child entities. Now I need to find the number of children associated with each parent for a list of parents. I am trying to do this with HQL but I am not sure how I can get the list of parents in there. Also, I don't know how I can return the entity itself and not just its ID. My current HQL query is: select new map(parent.id as parentId, count(*) as childCount) from Parent parent left join parent.children children group by parent.id but this only returns the ID and does not filter on specific parents. EDIT Based on Pascal's answer I have modified the query to select new map(parent as parent, count(elements(parent.children)) as childCount) from Parent parent group by parent That does work, but is prohibitively slow: 30 seconds instead of 400 ms on the same database.

  As many of the existing Http APIs for Cloud Services, AWS also provides a set of different platform SDKs for hiding many of complexities present in the APIs. While there is a platform SDK for .NET, which is open source and available in C#, that SDK does not work in Win8 Metro Applications for the changes introduced in WinRT. WinRT offers a complete different set of APIs for doing I/O operations such as doing http calls or using cryptography for signing or encrypting data, two aspects that are absolutely necessary for consuming AWS. All the I/O APIs available as part of WinRT are asynchronous, and uses the TPL model for .NET applications (HTML and JavaScript Metro applications use a model based in promises, which is similar concept).  In the case of S3, the http Authorization header is used for two purposes, authenticating clients and make sure the messages were not altered while they were in transit. For doing that, it uses a signature or hash of the message content and some of the headers using a symmetric key (That's just one of the available mechanisms). Windows Azure for example also uses the same mechanism in many of its APIs. There are three challenges that any developer working for first time in Metro will have to face to consume S3, the new WinRT APIs, the asynchronous nature of them and the complexity introduced for generating the Authorization header. Having said that, I decided to write this post with some of the gotchas I found myself trying to consume this Amazon service. 1. Generating the signature for the Authorization header All the cryptography APIs in WinRT are available under Windows.Security.Cryptography namespace. Many of operations available in these APIs uses the concept of buffers (IBuffer) for representing a chunk of binary data. There are a few things that don't work with a raw WebHttpRequest such as setting the Host header, which is something absolutely required for consuming S3. Also, HttpClient is more friendly for doing unit tests, as it receives a HttpMessageHandler as part of the constructor that can fake to emulate a real http call.
