E.g. consider this query $sql = "SELECT distinct database_1.users.id, database_1.users.name FROM database_1.users, database_2.sales WHERE database_2.sales.user_id = database_1.users.id"; How this query could be written using multiple db adapter? Edit I'm using 2 databases, because this way I can change actual database names in application.ini. Is there any other way I can change database names without changing sql queries?

• Asp.net MVC database connection setting in Visual studio 2008

  I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application. I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error "Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url" I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out. So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there? I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

  I work with Delphi 6 and SQL Server 2008. With Windows Vista everything runs ok. But since i change my OS to Windows 7 all my projects started to show a message when i'm trying to compile them that says "Stored procedure (SPname). Doesn't found or doesn't exist in the server. I look my server and it has the Sp with the correct name. i used ODBC connection and try the SQL Server and the SQL Native client 10.0 but the problem continues. the projects connect to the D.B with no problem until i try to run a SP. if i run the same projects in a vista again they work fine. If any of you can help me i really appreciate.......

(How) Can I influence when this SQL UPDATE happens? hibSession = HibernateUtil.getReadWriteSession(); tx = hibSession.beginTransaction(); User u = (User) hibSession.load(User.class, user_id); u.modify(); hibSession.update(u); tx.commit(); Edit: It seems that setting a CacheMode should have an effect, but each hibSession.update() results in an immediate SQL UPDATE, regardless which CacheMode I set.

  i am inserting values into a table if the record exists already replace it, and if it does not exist then add a new one. so far i have this code: INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (value1, value2, value3,...) where pk="some_id"; but i need something like this if not pk="some_id" exists then INSERT INTO table_name VALUES (value1, value2, value3,...) where pk="some_id"; else update table_name where pk="some_id" what would be the correct SQL syntax for this? please note that i am using sql access and that i guess it can be a combination of vba and sql

  In one SQL Task can I create a table variable DELCARE @TableVar TABLE (...) Then in another SQL Task or DataSource destination and select or insert into the table variable? The other option I have considered is using a Temp Table. CREATE TABLE #TempTable (...) I would prefer to use Table Variable so that it remains in memory. But can use temp table if it is not possible to use table variable. Also I cannot use the record set destination as I need to preform straight SQL tasks on it later on.

  I'm just learning about creating custom ribbons in Access 2010, but I'm running into an issue. The Access application I'm working with is connected to a SQL Server backend (connected, not just linked tables). As I understand it, the USysRibbons table needs to exist in the Access application itself, and not in a connected SQL Server. How does one go about creating a table in an Access application that is already linked to a SQL Server? I tried creating the table in a blank database and then importing it into the Access application without any luck.

  I am pretty new in SQL so this may be a stupid question... I have a form in PHP which fills in few fields in my SQL table. I have this code: $sql="INSERT INTO $tbl_name (app_name, app_path, short_desc, full_desc) VALUES ('$_POST[app_name]', '$_POST[app_path]', '$_POST[short_desc]', '$_POST[full_desc]')"; But even app_name and app_path are NOT NULL columns, the query can be executed if there is no text in these fields in the form. So, my question is: How to stop the execution of the query if there is no text in the NOT NULL fields ?

  We have a VS 2010 solution that includes a few class library projects, a SQL Server 2008 database project and a Wix setup project. We are trying to get to a point where the following happens in the order specified: Build the class library projects and the database project Deploy the database project to generate the deploy .sql script Build the Wix setup project. The reason for the desired order is that the setup project requires the deployment .sql scripts as it will use these to generate/update the database on the machine that the msi is run. It seems that there is no way within a Visual Studio solution file to create this type of build/deploy/build order. Is this correct? Thanks

  I have a table with start and end dates in. My goal is to have a table that has grouped these dates into how many days the period spans. I thought I had the solution with a simple SQL statement (MS SQL Server 2005) but I want to exclude weekends. SELECT DATEDIFF(D, StartDate, EndDate)+1 AS Days, COUNT(ID) as Count FROM myDateTable GROUP BY DATEDIFF(D, StartDate, EndDate) This gives a record set of: Days Count 1 4 2 2 4 1 7 2 Is this possible to exclude the weekends in the SQL statement and if not can it be done using ASP and a array perhaps?

• Comparing 2 linq applications: Unexpected result

  I drafted 2 ASP.NET applications using LINQ. One connects to MS SQL Server, another to some proprietary memory structure. Both applications work with tables of 3 int fields, having 500 000 records (the memory structure is identical to SQL Server table). The controls used are regular: GridView and ObjectDataSource. In the applications I calculate the average time needed for each paging click processing. LINQ + MS SQL application demands 0.1 sec per page change. LINQ + Memory Structure demands 0.8 sec per page change. This Is shocking result. Why the application handling data in memory works 8 times slower than the application using hard drive? Can anybody tell me why that happens?

  I have created a linked server from one SQL Server 2005 to Another 2005. When I run an update query through the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), it runs in under a second. If I run the query through a asp webpage it times out. I ran SQL Profiler to see if I noticed anything as well as the Activity Monitor in SSMS and all I found was that a lock was being created (Wait type LOCK_M_U), but I can't find what is locking it.   hello, i have a very complicated problem that i would like to share with you and maybe someone can answer it for me. before i start i have to say that i am very new in this. So, i have a coredata iphone app (much like the recipes app) that uses a pre-populated sql database. The user can add/edit his own data but the default data cannot be deleted. the useres data are ALL saved in the same sql database. QUESTION: what do i have to do in order to: - update some (not all) of the default data that are stored in the sql database without "touching" the user's data? (the model will stay the same - no new entities etc-) (if the user uninstall the app and then reinstall the new version everything will be ok but i dont want to do this, obviously). can someone PLEASE help in coding level?

  Using Vim, I'm trying to pipe visually selected text to a UNIX command and have the output appended to the end of the current file. For example, say we have a SQL command such as: SELECT * FROM mytable; I want to do something like the following: V # select text :'<,'!mysql -uuser -ppass mydb But instead of having the output overwrite the currently selected text, I would like to have the output appended to the end of the file. You probably see where this is going. I'm working on using VIM as a simple SQL editor. That way, I don't have to leave VIM to edit, tweak, test SQL code. Thanks!

  I am facing an issue while connecting to SSIS thru Mangament studio. I'm able to connect to SQL engine, Analysis services but not able to connect to SSIS. I use windows authentication. I tried steps given at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337083(SQL.90).aspx but no help. On one of the forum I saw that one needs to restart the MSDTC service, Do I need to do that? bcoz my SQL admin said I need to justify it by assuring that it doesn't affect aything else. Moreover we didn't find way to restart the service, where I can do that? please help. Thanks.

  I have written an installer and uninstaller in NSIS which creates and drops an sql database, which is working fine. I have written some .bat and .sql files to create and drop the database and then just call these files from NSIS script. My problem is if I keep this database open in SQL Server Management Studio and run the uninstaller ideally it should give an error message that the database is opened. In my case it shows the success message of uninstaller but dosnt drop the database properly. How can I handle this error in NSIS?

  So far in my .Net coding adventures I've only had a need to save information to files. So I've used XmlSerializer and DataContractSerializer to serialize attributed classes to XML files. My next project, however, requires that I save and retrieve information from a SQL server database. I'm wondering what my options are for doing this. The current version of the app, which was not created by me, uses a lot of hard coded SQL commands. But now I'm trying to avoid doing anything where I have to read or write individual fields to or from the database or objects. I especially want to avoid a lot of hard coded SQL in my code. I like how the serializer classes just figure out how to read and write XML files based on the attributes and or public properties of the class. Is there something similar for a database rather then XML?

• SqlAlchemy hangs after adding record in MS SQL

  I'm running SQLAlchemy on Jython and trying to connect to a MS SQL database using jTDS with windows authentication. I can query and delete just fine but when I try to insert new values it will hang when I commit. int 'before add' session.add(newVal) print 'after add' session.commit() print 'after commit' I see the first two print statements but not the last. My CPU maxes out and I can't even query the table directly using the MS SQL Management Studio. When I kill the Jython java process I can query again but the new values haven't been added. Strangely enough I can insert values directly using an SQL command: insert_sql = "INSERT INTO my_table (my_value) VALUES ('test_value')" session.execute(insert_sql) session.commit() Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

• Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

  i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again.   The certificate store on my Win7 box is constantly hanging. P.S. 1.cmd is simply a batch of these commands: certutil -? | findstr /i ping set PROMPT=$P($t)$G certutil -ping certutil -pingadmin set PROMPT=$P$G EDIT1 I have succeeded to pin down the single windows API that causes the problem - DsGetDcName According to the windbg, the certutil -ping invokes it like so: PDOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO pdci; DWORD ret = ::DsGetDcName(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, DS_DIRECTORY_SERVICE_PREFERRED, &pdci); On my workstation it times out for 30 seconds and then returns error code 1355, which is ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN No domain controller is available for the specified domain or the domain does not exist. On another machine, which is accidentally a windows server 2003, it returns almost immediately with the correct domain controller name inside the returned DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_INFO structure. Now the question is what is missing on my workstation for that API to find the correct domain controller?

• How to get SQL Railroad Diagrams from MSDN BNF syntax notation.

  pre {margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:8.0pt; font-family:"Courier New"; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; } On SQL Server Books-On-Line, in the Transact-SQL Reference (database Engine), every SQL Statement has its syntax represented in  ‘Backus–Naur Form’ notation (BNF)  syntax. For a programmer in a hurry, this should be ideal because It is the only quick way to understand and appreciate all the permutations of the syntax. It is a great feature once you get your eye in. It isn’t the only way to get the information;  You can, of course, reverse-engineer an understanding of the syntax from the examples, but your understanding won’t be complete, and you’ll have wasted time doing it. BNF is a good start in representing the syntax:  Oracle and SQLite go one step further, and have proper railroad diagrams for their syntax, which is a far more accessible way of doing it. There are three problems with the BNF on MSDN. Firstly, it is isn’t a standard version of  BNF, but an ancient fork from EBNF, inherited from Sybase. Secondly, it is excruciatingly difficult to understand, and thirdly it has a number of syntactic and semantic errors. The page describing DML triggers, for example, currently has the absurd BNF error that makes it state that all statements in the body of the trigger must be separated by commas.  There are a few other detail problems too. Here is the offending syntax for a DML trigger, pasted from MSDN. Obviously, there is a mechanism on MSDN to get errors corrected by using comments, but that doesn’t work for me (*Error occurred while saving your data.”), and when I report that the comment system doesn’t work to MSDN, I get no reply. I’ve been trying to create railroad diagrams for all the important SQL Server SQL statements, as good as you’d find for Oracle, and have so far published the CREATE TABLE and ALTER TABLE railroad diagrams based on the BNF. Although I’ve been aware of them, I’ve never realised until recently how many errors there are. Then, Colin Daley created a translator for the SQL Server dialect of  BNF which outputs standard EBNF notation used by the W3C. The example MSDN BNF for the trigger would be rendered as … /* Trigger on an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement to a table or view (DML Trigger) */ create_trigger ::= 'CREATE TRIGGER' ( schema_name '.' ) ? trigger_name 'ON' ( table | view ) ( 'WITH' dml_trigger_option ( ',' dml_trigger_option ) * ) ? 'AS' ( ( sql_statement ( ';' ) ? ) + | 'EXTERNAL NAME' method_specifier ( ';' ) ? )   dml_trigger_option ::= ( 'ENCRYPTION' ) ? ( 'EXECUTE AS CLAUSE' ) ?   method_specifier ::= assembly_name '.' class_name '.' method_name Colin’s intention was to allow anyone to paste SQL Server’s BNF notation into his website-based parser, and from this generate classic railroad diagrams via Gunther Rademacher's Railroad Diagram Generator.  Colin's application does this for you: you're not aware that you are moving to a different site.  Because Colin's 'translator' it is a parser, it will pick up syntax errors. Once you’ve fixed the syntax errors, you will get the syntax in the form of a human-readable railroad diagram and, in this form, the semantic mistakes become flamingly obvious. Gunter’s Railroad Diagram Generator is brilliant. To be able, after correcting the MSDN dialect of BNF, to generate a standard EBNF, and from thence to create railroad diagrams for SQL Server’s syntax that are as good as Oracle’s, is a great boon, and many thanks to Colin for the idea. Here is the result of the W3C EBNF from Colin’s application then being run through the Railroad diagram generator. create_trigger: dml_trigger_option: method_specifier:   Now that’s much better, you’ll agree. This is pretty easy to understand, and at this point any error is immediately obvious. This should be seriously useful, and it is to me. However  there is that snag. The BNF is generally incorrect, and you can’t expect the average visitor to mess about with it. The answer is, of course, to correct the BNF on MSDN and maybe even add railroad diagrams for the syntax. Stop giggling! I agree it won’t happen. In the meantime, we need to collaboratively store and publish these corrected syntaxes ourselves as we do them. How? GitHub?  SQL Server Central?  Simple-Talk? What should those of us who use the system  do with our corrected EBNF so that anyone can use them without hassle?
