  • Unique DVD info?

    - by acidzombie24
I was wondering, is there some type of disc ID i can use to search in my database to see if that disc is has been scanned or not? All disc were created by me typically burnt on windows. -edit- I could compare write time and volume label to see if the disc has been scanned but i notice if i put in certain commercial disc that fields are blank or wrong causing many false positives (i once had the time set to the future, i dont know if people want to archive the contents of files on a commercial disc in my app).

  • SQLiteOpenHelper getWritableDatabse() fails with no Exception

    - by Michal K
I have a very strange problem. It only shows from time to time, on several devices. Can't seem to reproduce it when I want, but had it so many times, that I think I know where I get it. So I have a Loader which connects to sqlite through a singleton SQLiteOpenHelper: try{ Log.i(TAG, "Get details offline / db helper: "+DatabaseHelper.getInstance(getContext())); SQLiteDatabase db=DatabaseHelper.getInstance(this.getContext()).getWritableDatabase(); Log.i(TAG, "Get details offline / db: "+db); //doing some work on the db //... } catch(SQLiteException e){ e.printStackTrace(); return null; } catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); return null; //trying everything to grab some exception or whatever } My SQLIteOpenHelper looks something like this: public class DatabaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { private static DatabaseHelper mInstance = null; private static Context mCxt; public static DatabaseHelper getInstance(Context cxt) { //using app context ass suggested by CommonsWare Log.i("DBHELPER1", "cxt"+mCxt+" / instance: "+mInstance); if (mInstance == null) { mInstance = new DatabaseHelper(cxt.getApplicationContext()); } Log.i("DBHELPER2", "cxt"+mCxt+" / instance: "+mInstance); mCxt = cxt; return mInstance; } //private constructor private DatabaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, DATABASE_VERSION); this.mCxt = context; } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { //some tables created here } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { //upgrade code here } It really works great in most cases. But from time to time I get a log similar to this: 06-10 23:49:59.621: I/DBHELPER1(26499): cxtcom.bananout.Bananout@407152c8 / instance: com.bananout.helpers.DatabaseHelper@40827560 06-10 23:49:59.631: I/DBHELPER2(26499): cxtcom.bananout.Bananout@407152c8 / instance: com.bananout.helpers.DatabaseHelper@40827560 06-10 23:49:59.631: I/DetailsLoader(26499): Get event details offline / db helper: com.bananout.helpers.DatabaseHelper@40827560 06-10 23:49:59.631: I/DBHELPER1(26499): cxtcom.bananout.Bananout@407152c8 / instance: com.bananout.helpers.DatabaseHelper@40827560 06-10 23:49:59.651: I/DBHELPER2(26499): cxtcom.bananout.Bananout@407152c8 / instance: com.bananout.helpers.DatabaseHelper@40827560 This line Log.i(TAG, "Get details offline / db: "+db); never gets called! No Exceptions, silence. Plus, the thread with the Loader is not running anymore. So nothing past this line SQLiteDatabase db=DatabaseHelper.getInstance(this.getContext()).getWritableDatabase(); gets executed. What can possibly go wrong on this line?

  • Ping results "echo'd" out to a text file on Windows XP machine has unusual character rather than the outcome

    - by Richard Rice
Here is the situation. I have a Windows XP machine that I would like to ping another machine and send the output to a text file for review at a later date. This is quite a standard question with several answers on this website and others. The issue I have is that when reviewing the txt file afterwards, the outcome of the ping appears as a strange character. A screenshot of the text file output can be found at the following link. Please note its the first 8 ping outputs that have a strange character. The %%B was me hoping that would output what I wanted! (Cannot upload image to any hosting websites because the company I work for seems to be afraid of them ....) Here is the code I'm using: @echo off For /f "tokens=1-2 delims=/:" %%b in ("%TIME%") do (set mytime=%%a%%b) PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 1000 >NUL for /f "tokens=*" %%A in ('ping 192.168.5.2 -w 10 -n 1') do (echo %date% %time% %%A >> C:\Temp\Ping_Checks\GarrickSide.txt && GOTO Ping ) :Ping PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 1000 >NUL for /f "tokens=* skip=2" %%A in ('ping 192.168.5.2 -w 10 -n 1') do (echo %date% %time% %%A >> C:\Temp\Ping_Checks\GarrickSide.txt && GOTO Ping ) This code works fine on a Windows 7 machine, but not on a Windows XP machine. It appears that the echo command isn't outputting the right data, but I don't understand this enough to correct it. Can anyone spot where I'm going wrong?

  • Singleton with eager initialization

    - by jesper
I have class X that takes much time to initialize itself. I want to make that class singleton and force its creation when rails application starts. I've made the singleton: class X @@instance = nil def self.instance if @@instance.nil? @@instance = X.new puts 'CREATING' end return @@instance end private_class_method :new end The problem is that every time I use this class I see 'CREATING' in logs. I've tried to put creation of class in initializers directory but it doesn't work either.

  • Templates in C#

    - by John Doe
I know generics are in C# to fulfill a role similar to C++ templates but I really need a way to generate some code at compile time - in this particular situation it would be very easy to solve the problem with C++ templates. Does anyone know of any alternatives? Perhaps a VS plug-in that preprocesses the code or something like that? It doesn't need to be very sophisticated, I just need to generate some methods at compile time.

  • How can I order fields in Django ModelForm?

    - by joozek
I have an 'order' Model: class Order(models.Model): date_time=models.DateTimeField() # other stuff And I'm using Django ModelForm class to render a form, but I want to display date and time widgets separately. I've came up with this: class Form(forms.ModelForm): class Meta: model = Order exclude = ('date_time',) date = forms.DateField() time = forms.TimeField() The problem is that I want to put these fields somewhere between 'other stuff'

  • What have you learned from your students?

    - by Helper Method
It is said that a true master learns from his students. Since I'm tutoring at university, from time to time a question or a comment from the students I'm working with made me to see something from a different perspective, you get deeper insights, etc. So, what have you learned from your students/junior developers/... ?

  • SSH hangs when executing command remotely

    - by Serty Oan
Client : OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5ubuntu1 (Ubuntu 9.04) Server : OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5 (Proxmox 2.6.24-7-pve) I use SSH to execute commands remotely on the server (module check_by_ssh of Nagios). But SSH hangs from time to time when trying to execute commands. I can log to the server via SSH but not executing a simple 'ls'. And it seems to block from all clients from the same IP address. Authentication is not the problem, may it be made by SSH keys or password. ssh -l root -p 2222 server.domain.tld 'ls' Here the client debug info debug1: Entering interactive session. debug2: callback start debug2: client_session2_setup: id 0 debug1: Sending environment. debug3: Ignored env ORBIT_SOCKETDIR *** skipping approx 40 env var ignored debug1: Sending command: ls debug2: channel 0: request exec confirm 1 It hangs there. Then after a random time, it works again (without doing anything). Killing all sshd process on the server seems to work too. It works from a Putty. I saw that some people had trouble like this due to ISP reverse DNS problem, but it does not seem to be the case here. It can work for hours and then not work for half an hour or so. What could explain this behaviour ?

  • How do I translate a ISO 8601 datetime string into a Python datetime object?

    - by Andrey Fedorov
I'm getting a datetime string in a format like "2009-05-28T16:15:00" (this is ISO 8601, I believe) one hack-ish option seems to be to parse the string using time.strptime and passing the first 6 elements of the touple into the datetime constructor, like: datetime.datetime(*time.strptime("2007-03-04T21:08:12", "%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S")[:6]) I haven't been able to find a "cleaner" way of doing this, is there one?

  • JQuery Tablesorter clear table information

    - by conversoid
I've created a jquery table that from time to time needs to be cleared and the re-populated, my clear method is this: //Clear table content before repopulating values $('#tabela_dash2_maquinas .real-content table tr:gt(0)').remove(); Now i'm trying to use tablesorter to sort a specific column, but my problem is that when I enable the tablesorter: //Initialize tablesorter $("table").tablesorter(); The table clearing method is not working anymore, it just keeps adding the new data with the old data, creating a lot of repeated information. Please help

  • How to delete removed devices from a mdadm RAID1?

    - by Kabuto
I had to replace two hard drives in my RAID1. After adding the two new partitions the old ones are still showing up as removed while the new ones are only added as spare. I've had no luck removing the partitions marked as removed. Here's the RAID in question. Note the two devices (0 and 1) with state removed. $ mdadm --detail /dev/md1 mdadm: metadata format 00.90 unknown, ignored. mdadm: metadata format 00.90 unknown, ignored. /dev/md1: Version : 00.90 Creation Time : Thu May 20 12:32:25 2010 Raid Level : raid1 Array Size : 1454645504 (1387.26 GiB 1489.56 GB) Used Dev Size : 1454645504 (1387.26 GiB 1489.56 GB) Raid Devices : 3 Total Devices : 3 Preferred Minor : 1 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Update Time : Tue Nov 12 21:30:39 2013 State : clean, degraded Active Devices : 1 Working Devices : 3 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 2 UUID : 10d7d9be:a8a50b8e:788182fa:2238f1e4 Events : 0.8717546 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 0 0 0 0 removed 1 0 0 1 removed 2 8 34 2 active sync /dev/sdc2 3 8 18 - spare /dev/sdb2 4 8 2 - spare /dev/sda2 How do I get rid of these devices and add the new partitions as active RAID devices? Update I seem to have gotten rid of them. My RAID is resyncing, but the two drives are still marked as spares and are number 3 and 4, which looks wrong. I'll have to wait for the resync to finish. All I did was to fix the metadata error by editing my mdadm.conf and rebooting. I tried rebooting before, but this time it worked for whatever reason. • what are these weird IP address connections in resource monitor?

    - by bill
I decided to check out Resource Monitor (on the 'Performance' tab in Task Manager, Windows 7) and I noticed in the "Network" section that the 'System' image name kept making a bunch (~5 at a time) of connections to random IP addresses, it would show anywhere from 1-500 bytes/sec 'sent'. They would stay connected for 1-2 minutes. -All web browsers are closed So, first thing I did was run a trace from network-tools.com on some of these IP addresses. 8/10 were outside of US and did not resolve to any host name. Of the 10 IP addresses I traced, 2 were in US, 4 showed origins in China, and one each to Algeria, Russia, Pakistan, Korea. (!) So, the next thing I did was turn off my wireless card, watch the connections disappear, then turn the card back on, and within 30 seconds more random connections were created by System, with different IP addresses from the first time. The next thing I did was go open Task Manager, Show Processes From All Users, then I killed just about everything that wasn't (what appeared to be) a windows process. Turned on wi-fi, and again within 30 seconds, random IP addresses connect for ~ 1 min at a time, new ones coming and going. I occasionally use bit torrent on this machine, but there was definitely no process that seemed related to bt running after I went through task manager, and bt wasn't open to begin with. So, any ideas on what these connections might be for? I have been using Ad-Aware Free and AVG Free on this computer for a while now, always up to date..

  • The Web Hosting Connundrum for "not quite" developers

    - by saltcod
Hey all, Apologies if this post feels like its been covered elsewhere, but I don't think it has. I've been down a winding web hosting road. To date, I've tried: Joyent, Media Temple, Bluehost, Hostgator, and finally Linode. The reason for switching are likely obvious to everyone: speed. With the exception of the lightening fast Linode, all of the shared hosts are absolutely sloooow. What do do when you're not really a "developer" While I'v grown addicted to the speed of Linode, I really don't feel like its where I should be. I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that one of these days (likely soon), I'm going to run into something that i won't be able to figure out and i'll have days worth of downtime. Just the other day, for example, I realized that one of my domains wasn't sending emails. After 4(!) hours looking into the problem, I still can't get sendmail or postfix to work. Four hours!! I want to be a Drupal expert, not a Ubuntu expert That's really the heart of my problem: I spend way too much time learning Ubuntu's ins-and-outs, and not nearly enough time working on Drupal. So here goes: Is there a web host out there anywhere that offers the speed of Linode, but will let me focus on Drupal instead of sys-admin-ing? Thanks! [ I know, I know. There are going to be lots of people who read this saying - "just learn Ubuntu like a real developer". And I get that. I do. But when I work full-time and try and develop some of these sites in my evenings and weekends, I'm really feeling like the sys-admin stuff gets in the way.

  • What can you do and not do with java annotations?

    - by swampsjohn
The typical use-case is for simple things like @Override, but clearly you can do a lot more with them. If you push the limits of them, you get things like Project Lombok, though my understanding is that that's a huge abuse of annotations. What exactly can you do? What sort of things can you do at compile-time and run-time with annotations? What can you not do?

  • Allow SFTP in iptables

    - by Kevin Orriss
I have just purchased a VPS from linode and am going through the setup guide. I have everything running (apache2, php, mysql etc) but I am being denied access via SFTP when using fileZilla to upload a file. Now this is my second time installing the server as I missed a section out the first time. I was able to connect to my server through SFTP on filezilla the first time and the thing I missed out was adding a new user and editing the iptables in the firewall. So it would seem that the guide I have been following has blocked SFTP but allowed SSH. Here is the iptables file: *filter # Allow all loopback (lo0) traffic and drop all traffic to 127/8 that doesn't use lo0 -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A INPUT ! -i lo -d 127.0.0.0/8 -j REJECT # Accept all established inbound connections -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT # Allow all outbound traffic - you can modify this to only allow certain traffic -A OUTPUT -j ACCEPT # Allow HTTP and HTTPS connections from anywhere (the normal ports for websites and SSL). -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT # Allow SSH connections # # The -dport number should be the same port number you set in sshd_config # -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 22 -j ACCEPT # Allow ping -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 8 -j ACCEPT # Log iptables denied calls -A INPUT -m limit --limit 5/min -j LOG --log-prefix "iptables denied: " --log-level 7 # Reject all other inbound - default deny unless explicitly allowed policy -A INPUT -j REJECT -A FORWARD -j REJECT COMMIT All I would like is a line I need to put in there which allows SFTP over port 22. Thank you for reading this.
