  • Client/JS Framework for "Unsaved Data" Protection?

    Hey all- we have a typical web application that is essentially a data entry application with lots of screens some of which have some degree of complexity. We need to provide that standard capability on making sure if the user forgets to click the "Save" button before navigating away or closing their browser they get a warning and can cancel (but only when there is unsaved or dirty data). I know the basics of what I've got to do-- in fact I'm sure I've done it all before over the years (tie in to onbeforeunload, track the "dirty" state of the page, etc...) but before I embark on coding this YET AGAIN, does anyone have some suggestions for libraries already out there (free or otherwise) that will help out? Thanks!

  • Mobile safari - suppress Unsupported Protocol alert

    Hello guys, I'm creating a website for iPhone and i use the native app (cliqcliq Quickpick) to upload photos. I use the script like the following to check if the application is installed. The basic idea is to send user to a custom url, if application is there it is launched, if it is not there the url should be ignored and user is taken to App Store. Below is the script: window.launchQuickpic = function() { var start = new Date(); setTimeout(function() { if (new Date() - start > 2000) { return; } window.location = 'http://www.cliqcliq.com/quickpic/install/'; }, 1000); var getParams = [...]; window.location = 'vquickpic://?' + getParams.join('&'); }; If the native app is not installed I'm getting the alert box saying that Safari does not recognize the custom url. After user clicks "ok" it works as it is supposed to. But the alert is reeealy annoying. I've tried to surround the window.location= code with try/catch. Didn't help.

    I came across this answer where the poster suggested that the shorthand for if(typeof MyNamespace === 'undefined'){ var MyNamespace = {}; } is var MyNamespace = MyNamespace || {}; Would veteran programmers recommend the latter to simplify the code, or does it overly complicate things, like abusing ++ or -- in complex compound statements? EDIT The reason I asked is b/c a while back someone inspired me by pointing out that a lot of the people who think they are expert programmers make a lot of beginners mistakes. The case at the time was if (isReady){ //Do Something } And what he was saying is that a condition should mean something, isReady doesn't 'mean' anything, instead, we should use if (isReady === true){ //Do Something }

    If you don't care about minifying your code, is there a way to get started using the Google Closure library without having to set up a subversion client and use the compiler? The Notepad sample program on Google's website refers to <script src="closure-library/base.js" > </script > Can you simply download closure-library/base.js somewhere and start playing with the UI examples? The Closure Lite quick-start version doesn't appear to include goog.ui

    I'm developing a website that publishes scientific articles, not as PDF but as HTML. As a input tool for the editorial team, we use TinyMCE for normal text plus a couple of custom plugins for footnotes and citations. But we are not really happy with TinyMCEs table controls. Everything but the most simple tables take way to long to write. Are there any specialized table editing tools for the browser out there?

    I need infoWindow to be opened instead of zooming in map, when clicking on the ClusterMarker. I am using Gmaps util library MarkerClusterer for creating cluster of markers. I tried changing following line in markerclusterer.js ClusterMarker_.prototype = new GOverlay(); with ClusterMarker_.prototype = new GMarker(); so that I can get the openInfoWindow() function in the clustermarker, but that didnt worked out. Got some error. If possible, Please suggest solution so that this can be done with MarkerClusterer. Or else any other library which will be able to do this. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Java 6 ScriptEngine and JSON.parse problem

    The Rhino release that is included in Java 6 ScriptEngine does not have a JSON parser. I've tried including crockfords JSON2.js in my script on the scriptengine.eval(). When I try to do the JSON.parse, it ends up giving me a script error that .replace is an unknown function. .replace is referenced several places in JSON2, and it works fine inside a browser (IE7, IE8, FF3). Anyone see this and have a suggestion?

  • Load external pages using jquery

    I'm trying to use jquery to load external pages into the current without reloading. Apparently everything works fine except of one little issue, I hope I'll be clear as much as possible. When I call the page 'info.php' it is loaded into the #content div. That's what the script supposed to do, the problem is that in the main page, which contains the script and the #content div, I already have some code that I want it to be executed when someone visit the page and not to be called from external page.   • After dynamically changing a form submit function causes old function to get called once then new fu

    I am setting the submit function on a form with jQuery then later in the process I reset the function to something else. What happens is the original function gets called again then the new function when only the new function should have been called. I am sending the requests with AJAX. The first one validated the values on the server then asks if you want to continue. Clicking the submit again should only call the changed function but for some reason both get called simultaneously with a single click. What is happening here? Could jQuery be delaying the the setting of the 2nd function on the form submit?

    I'm trying to create a somewhat complex sorting feature which neither uses divs nor lists. Unfortunately two hours of googling didn't help me. So the user will be able to view the contents of the site either sorted by name, by year, by country or by title. I have this jQuery snippet from a website, but all my attempts on trying to tell it to use the contents of e.g. h3 to sort have failed.   • Jquery mouseover event issues

    Hi I am currently working on a project where I am using jQuery to animate a block of text on mouse over. The event listener is on the containing div (as shown by the code below) and works really well until the mouse is over the title (.views-field-title) which is absolutely above the containing div. The animation begins to jump almost as though it is starting over?     Afternoon all. I have the following scenario: I have a search page where by a client searches for a product from a drop down list, upon clicking a button, a gridview is produced display the spec. What I would like is the functionality for the user to make their selection and a new window pops up with the spec. However, what I would like to happen is that the user can make multiple searches so a number of new windows are opened. i.e. a user searches for egg once, the spec is returned in a new window; they then wish to see the spec for a chicken, so they use the search page to find said chicken, click the button and another new window is shown displaying the chicken's specs. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? Apologies if this is simple stuff, I am just finding my feet.

  • Designing code for a duo Website + AIR desktop App

    I want to use AIR to create an OFFLINE version of a "webapp" kind of website (lots of ajax, front end code). Haven't been much further than the HelloWorld example, I keep wondering: how do you design your code, to maximize code reuse between the website (say in php or Java or .Net), and the AIR app ? Can you actually re-use 100% of the front end code, provided that it is designed to account for the AIR app ? How would you go about doing that ? For example, the website makes many Ajax calls which have latency, and uses listeners. The AIR app doesn't need listeners it could run database requests synchronously, and it doesn't need to run ajax calls right? Would you write an abstraction layer for that ? So that the same calls on the AIR app will not do a xmlhttp but instead implement the server-side code with AIR; and call the listener ? So you don't have to rewrite the front end code patterns ? Does this make sense ? It's really hard to search on Google. I'm thinking there must be a good article somewhere of somebody who went through and perhaps a framework to do that ?
