• No display but video card fans spins

  Since I moved my computer there's no display when I plug my screen in the video card but works fine in the mother board. I tried reseting the cmos, but I still have the same problem. The fans are spining and there's a light from the card. I tried the DVI ports and the HDMI Here's my build. I have it for 2 months and everything was working fine. Do you think it's the video card? • Why does the task pictogram flashes instead of opening the program?

  Sometimes, when I select a click a program on the Windows 7 taskbar it won't appear (it doesn't gain focus and remains behind other open windows), and the icon will flash and turn orange. This happens reasonably frequently, and I've had it happen on two separate Windows installs on different machines. It just happened now and the only programs I have with active windows are Chrome, WMP and Explorer (2). It happened when I clicked Explorer. Once this has happened to one window, it affects all windows, and the only way I can switch between programs is by finding the window manually or using Windows+Tab. The only way I've come across to get the computer to snap out of this annoying behaviour is to restart the machine. Is there a way of stopping it? • tcp handshake failed.client send rst (after syn-ack). can any one advice?

  architecture: 2 linux computer connected . on the second (192.168.1.1) one run apache server . I have a small program that take tcp packets from nfqueue change the dst ip to 192.168.1.1 in case that the dst ip is 192.168.1.2 (i know that i can do it with iptables , but my program will do more things in the future), fix check sum and return to the queue. if i call to telnet 192.168.1.1 , means that my program dosnt need to do any manipulation, handshake is OK. If i call to telnet 192.168.1.2 , my program change the dest. server get the syn and return syn-ack, but right after getting the syn-ack the client send rst. • Ubuntu 11.10 loads from live usb fine, but boots to black screen from harddrive. Why?

  A few days ago I had a hard drive failure, which was running Windows XP (32-bit) just fine. The second hard drive in my computer held a few unimportant files, so I formatted it in the Ubuntu setup and installed 11.10 without a hitch. I had been using it for about a week, but decided to install Windows 7 (64-bit) in order to utilize Networking with my home server (running Windows Server 2000). My system is 64-bit based, and thus I had no problems installing other than a basic RAM error that required me to remove my RAM down to a single stick. I played with the settings in Windows 7 for around an hour before I shut down. After reinstalling the RAM, Windows 7 would not boot. In this, I then assumed that something about my system was rejecting Win7 and I reinstalled Ubuntu. However, now Ubuntu (11.10) boots into black screen, and I've already attempted activating the grub menu with the shift key, and following steps listed here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen but nothing seems to work. I've reinstalled twice now, with the same result each time. Now, the very odd part about this whole scenario is that the USB I installed from has no problems booting as a live USB. This puzzles me greatly, because the hard drive boots straight to black screen and the live USB loads normally. At this point, my only theory is that the boot sector of the hard disk was somehow corrupted with Win7, and that Ubuntu was unable to completely write through. I used Darik's Boot n Nuke to wipe the drive, but was met with an error, this also puzzles me because the hard disk has no promblems reading or writing. Any suggestions/comments are appreciated. If you have a theory, I will be more than happy to oblige. Additional information: Intel Core2 Duo e6400 2.13GHz nVidia GeForce 7-series (7900 GS) 4 GB DDR2 333MHz (2x 2GB) Dell XPS 410 BIOS Revision 2.5.3

• Blackberry keeps sending notifications of FB and emails [closed]

  Here is the problem I got with my blackberry : I have received and sent multiple mails this week-end from my home computer. As usual, I received the notifications of sent and received emails on my blackberry, and archived / deleted them. But, I still receive the notifications of new mails several times a day, for emails I already have deleted in my Gmail account. I tried rebooting the blackberry (alt+shift+del) and removing the battery, but nothing helps, the notifications are sent and re-sent, no matter what I do. Anyone has an advice on how to stop this spam, as it is becoming very annoying ?

• Powershell Foreach-Object with if statement not working - help!

  I have a batch file that takes a computer name as its argument and will install Java JRE on it remotely. Now, Im trying to run this Powershell script to repeatedly call the batch file and install Java on any system that it finds without the latest version. It seems to run error-free, but the statements inside the if code block never seem to run - even when the if conditional test evaluates to true. Can anyone look at this script and point out what I'm possibly missing? I'm using the Quest AD cmdlets, and BSOnPosh module. • Change User Folder

  So I had a backup and when restored it to my computer the User folder didn't actually change to use the backed-up folder, so now I have an owner folder (which is pretty much empty) and a my_username folder below C:\Users. How can I make my account use the my_username folder as the user folder? EDIT: I've tried creating a new account and then changing the name of my old folder to the name of the new account, but somehow Windows still knows it's not the 'real' user folder and creates a TEMP folder. In which registry is this configured?

• Windows 7 Won't find Lexmark X4550

  I just got Lexmark X4550 wireless printer and want to have it installed on my laptop Windows 7 Beta. I have installed using Lexmark drivers and doing a "add a printer" device search. But when I tried to print a document i got an error message: "Communication not available. The printer cannot communicate with the computer...". This pinter used to work perfectly on my Windows XP Pro SP3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How do I fix broken installation?

  Let me start off by saying I'm dual booting 11.04 and Windows 7 on a Thinkpad T61p. The problem may have arisen when I hit the power button during normal startup. I'm fully aware how stupid this is. I don't know why I did it. I did it. Now, I can't get in to Ubuntu. Windows works fine. But when I try to start Ubuntu normally, it seems to run some checks, and does not start up. Sometimes, I see a black screen, and it tells me that it's running certain checks, and then, [ok]. Like... Battery Check Somethingorother [ok] It'll give me 1-5 of these. And then it just does nothing, and I have to turn it off. When I try to start in safe mode... I tried low graphics mode, and after going through a couple of dialogue boxes, I'm brought right back to the safe mode dialogue box. And if I hit 'resume,' a shell pushes up (still that grey on black "your computer is broken" type shell) and asks me to log in. I do, and try to run unity. It tells me something along the lines of: WARNING no DISPLAY variable set and then sets it to " :0" , which doesn't work. And then I can't do anything, really, and I have to restart. (I don't know how to do this from the command line, so I just hard reset. That command would be helpful). Does anybody have any idea how I can get Ubuntu working right again? FTP is less pleasant in Explorer than it is in Nautilus or w/e it is now.

  Hello, I'm using SQLite to store some data. The primary database is on a NAS (Debian Lenny, 2.6.15, armv4l) since the NAS runs a script which updates the data every day. A typical "select * from tableX" looks like this: 2010-12-28|20|62.09|25170.0 2010-12-28|21|49.28|23305.7 2010-12-28|22|48.51|22051.1 2010-12-28|23|47.17|21809.9 When I copy the DB to my main computer (Mac OS X) and run the same SQL query, the output is: 2010-12-28|20|1.08115035175016e-160|25170.0 2010-12-28|21|2.39343503830763e-259|-9.25596535779558e+61 2010-12-28|22|-1.02951149572792e-86|1.90359837597183e+185 2010-12-28|23|-1.10707273937033e-234|-2.35343828462275e-185 The 3rd and 4th column have the type REAL. Interesting fact: When the numbers are integer (i.e. they end with ".0"), there is no difference between the two databases. In all other cases, the differences are ... hm ... surprising? I can't seem to find a pattern. If someone's got a clue - please share!

• How to create shared home directories across multiple computers?

  I know there are ways to share a folder across computers making it easy to move files. But I was wondering how one would setup a single login which lets you access the same files regardless of which machine you login on? What I would like is something similar to something you would see in a college campus where students login on machines in the lab and see their files regardless of which machine they use. I know there are server involved here. I have a need to create this on a smaller scale where we have a few computers available (and one of these could act as the server if needed and host the files) that every one shares. Note, the specific install of software might be different on each computer but the login and OS are the same. Since some computers have additional capability that our group members will need to use at rotating schedules (software licenses or hardware components, etc.). I have not done this before, so I would appreciate detailed instructions if possible or a reference to a guide that describes this. Thanks in advance.

• Plugged in, not charging&ndash;Windows 7

  Just a quick post on something I ran into lately with my Dell Precision M4500 laptop (monster laptop!).  I noticed the little icon in the system tray for the power options was stating that it was “plugged in, not charging”.  I don’t know why it was stating this, but I quickly found a fix for it on the net. I found the fix in this forum on CNET.  Here’s the fix: In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below. 1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager . 2. Expand the Batteries category. 3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall . WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver. 4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes . Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes . Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.   And it did work.

• Why do most routers not include local DNS?

  I need to change my firewall/router, and I'd prefer something with built-in DNS to resolve queries on the local subnets. I've got a mixed Linux/Windows system, often with only one computer turned on, and I frequently have problems resolving local names. I don't want to keep a Linux box permanently on just for DNS, and I'd prefer to have DNS in my router appliance, which is always on. I search Google for this occasionally but never find anything. You always get the obvious answers - it's not possible, put everything in /etc/hosts, NetBIOS, dedicated box, etc. So what am I missing? Why don't "cheap" routers let you do this? I'm pretty sure that Cisco kit does this. Almost all cheap routers will let you do MAC address reservation, to let them assign static IP addresses for DHCP. So why can't they simply do DNS as well for everything on the local subnets, just passing through remote domains to the ISP?

  Yesterday on a computer of a friend a strange thing happened. after booting the ports fo http, https and ftp are closed but e-mail is still working. in the control panel the windows firewall seems active even if he tries to deactivate it. I have a suspision that it is the faul of norton internet security 2010, we have tried to uninstall it, but the uninstallation did not work. when using the removal tool from symantec it just goes to 23% and then it crashes. the process ccSvcHst.exe is still running. How can I safely remove the rest of Norton Internet Security? Edit: Norton Internet Security 2010 is sucesfully removed, but still no connectivity...

• What happens if I run caspol.exe multiple times?

  Hi there! Caspol.exe is used to modify security policy for the machine policy level, the user policy level, and the enterprise policy level. What I use it for, is setting up av trust between the client and an area on some server. I went through the scripts on the server, and found an interesting script that sets up full trust via caspol between a client in one zone, and an application on the server. That script has been running every day, for every logon, since it was implemented. Can someone tell me the consequences? I guess there is about 500 trusts between the client computer and the server, all which points to the same thing.

Linux that works as a DNS and DHCP Server I need to make them work together, but I don't if this is going to be possible because VMWARE is sharing the NIC with other virtual machines and computer itself.   I am new to android. I have just downloaded and installed android sdk. Now when I run the application from eclipse, my device is not getting detected. I have googled and was brought up with this as my solution, but that also didn't worked.   One fast question: if I buy an iPad 3G in Europe will it work on other places without jailbreak? I ask this because I heard that, in Europe, iPads are not blocked to any telecom but I am not sure about that. On the other hand I am afraid do buy because I know that their cousins, iphones, are blocked to a specific telecom. Another question is regarding activation. As far as I remembered, my iPhone required me to do an activation step on iTunes and I remember it was also activated (or whatever) on the store (I remembered the salesman connected it to a computer and did some stuff before giving me the device). Is the iPad in europe totally free of operator? totally unblocked? thanks.

• My windows keyboard is being "clever" with the quote keys - how can I stop it?

  I'm using windows 7 on a laptop. On the laptop keyboard, for some reason, the quote key (which has both double and single quote on it) is doing some "clever" annoying things: When I press single-quote (or double-quote), windows doesn't send any characters until I press it twice (resulting in '' or "") When I press it before a vowel, I get some kind of accented character. As I usually only write English, this is annoying. The backtick/tilde key is subject to similar behaviour. I have not attempted to set up my computer to process anything other than English. My keyboard appears to be (in so far as these things are standard on laptops) a standard US qwerty keyboard. How can I stop this happening?

Before there was: I will not acquiesce in on it. I over precise post. Expressly the title attracted me to be familiar with the sound story. and before that Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up! It is obviously computer-generated (well, not this last one). The comments are from Anonymous, so they're not trying to legitimate a user on Blogger. Is this a spam attack? What might its goal be? Or are they just testing my blog to see if I reject or not? Does this kind of "attack" have a name?

• SBS 2008 reinstall on new machine

  We purchased a single license on Windows Small Business Server 2008 for a medical office, and soon after a power fault caused the server to overload, destroying the power supply and motherboard. I reinstalled on a new server, and have the domain up and running again, but under system properties it tells me I still need to activate windows, and that the product key currently entered is invalid for activation. I've been trying to figure out how to get in touch with Microsoft to explain the situation and get a new activation key issued without having to pay for another license which we can't afford, but the online documentation hasn't been particularly clear on the subject. Does anyone know how to do that, or if I do need the activation key to continue using SBS 2008? (It currently tells me I have 56 days left to activate) Any tips would be appreciated. I'm not strictly a computer guy and I'm feeling a little lost.

• Super Uninstallers that can be run from a USB Flash Drive?

  Does anyone know of a 'Super Uninstaller' package that will allow you to run it from a USB Flash Drive? I used to have a CD that was a Super Uninstaller utility that would uninstall anything. I can't seem to find it and I'd like to replace it with one that I can run from a flash drive. I'd like the portability to now have to install it on each computer I'm using it on. • Firefox generating error?

• How to change hybrid disk to basic disk in windows 7?

  I created a partition E and then deleted the partition. After that I extended my partition C (where OS was installed) to take the space. My partition C became hybrid drive. My hp notebook does not have DVD rom and the notebook only came with an recovery image (I also have a paragon disc image). My computer has some problems now and I want to recover it by either the factory format or the paragon disc image. However, none of them works. I know it is because my disc has become hybrid disk. My question is how to fix the dynamic disk problem?
