• Adding a valuetype to IDL, compile and it fails with "No factory found"

  I can't figure out why the client keeps complaining about the not finding the factory method. I've tried the IDL with and without the "factory" keyword and that didn't change the behavior. The SDMGeoVT IDL matches other objects used (which run successfully). The SDMGeoVT classes generated match other generated classes in regards to inheritance and methods. The IDL is as follows; The idlj compiler runs w/o error. I implement the function on the server and I see the server code run and serialize the object over the wire (the server code runs fine). The client bombs with the following stack trace (the first couple of lines is from the jacORB library). I've created a small app just to compile and test the code (ArrayClient & ArrayServer). The base app (from the jacORB demo) works fine. • Ignoring focusLost(), SWT.Verify, or other SWT listeners in Java code.

  Outside of the actual SWT listener, is there any way to ignore a listener via code? For example, I have a java program that implements SWT Text Widgets, and the widgets have: SWT.Verify listeners to filter out unwanted text input. ModifyListeners to wait for the correct number of valid input characters and automatically set focus (using setFocus())to the next valid field, skipping the other text widgets in the tab order. focusLost(FocusEvent) FocusListeners that wait for the loss of focus from the text widget to perform additional input verification and execute an SQL query based on the user input. The issue I run into is clearing the text widgets. One of the widgets has the format "####-##" (Four Numbers, a hyphen, then two numbers) and I have implemented this listener, which is a modified version of SWT Snippet Snippet179. The initial text for this text widget is " - " to provide visual feedback to the user as to the expected format. When that input is received, the listener changes the text back to " - " (four spaces, a hyphen, then two spaces). Often, I use SWT MessageBox widgets in this code to communicate to the user, or wish to change the text widgets back to an empty state after verifying the input. The problem is that messageboxes seem to create a focusLost event, and using the .setText(string) method is subject to SWT.Verify listeners that are present on the text widget. • Single console in eclipse for both Server and Client

  I am building a client server application using Java Sockets (in Windows XP). For that I need different consoles for both Client and Server(for Input and Output operations). But in eclipse both share a single console. Is there any plugin or some sort of cheat through which I can do this. If I add the jar to my classpath then Java freaks out and gives me "prohibited package name" errors because it replaced java.util.zip. How do I tell Java that this is what I want it to do?

• Performance tuning of a Hibernate+Spring+MySQL project operation that stores images uploaded by user

  Hi I am working on a web project that is Spring+Hibernate+MySQL based. I am stuck at a point where I have to store images uploaded by a user into the database. Although I have written some code that works well for now, but I believe that things will mess up when the project would go live. Here's my domain class that carries the image bytes: @Entity public class Picture implements java.io.Serializable{ long id; byte[] data; ... // getters and setters } And here's my controller that saves the file on submit: public class PictureUploadFormController extends AbstractBaseFormController{ ... protected ModelAndView onSubmit(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, Object command, BindException errors) throws Exception{ MutlipartFile file; // getting MultipartFile from the command object ... // beginning hibernate transaction ... Picture p=new Picture(); p.setData(file.getBytes()); pictureDAO.makePersistent(p); // this method simply calls getSession().saveOrUpdate(p) // committing hiernate transaction ... } ... } Obviously a bad piece of code. Is there anyway I could use InputStream or Blob to save the data, instead of first loading all the bytes from the user into the memory and then pushing them into the database? I did some research on hibernate's support for Blob, and found this in Hibernate In Action book: java.sql.Blob and java.sql.Clob are the most efficient way to handle large objects in Java. Unfortunately, an instance of Blob or Clob is only useable until the JDBC transaction completes. So if your persistent class defines a property of java.sql.Clob or java.sql.Blob (not a good idea anyway), you’ll be restricted in how instances of the class may be used. In particular, you won’t be able to use instances of that class as detached objects. Furthermore, many JDBC drivers don’t feature working support for java.sql.Blob and java.sql.Clob. Therefore, it makes more sense to map large objects using the binary or text mapping type, assuming retrieval of the entire large object into memory isn’t a performance killer. Note you can find up-to-date design patterns and tips for large object usage on the Hibernate website, with tricks for particular platforms. Now apparently the Blob cannot be used, as it is not a good idea anyway, what else could be used to improve the performance? I couldn't find any up-to-date design pattern or any useful information on Hibernate website. So any help/recommendations from stackoverflowers will be much appreciated. Thanks

• Difference in DocumentBuilder.parse when using JRE 1.5 and JDK 1.6

  Recently at last we have switched our projects to Java 1.6. When executing the tests I found out that using 1.6 a SAXParseException is not thrown which has been thrown using 1.5. The Javadoc of the DocumentBuilderFactory.setSchema(Schema) Method says: When errors are found by the validator, the parser is responsible to report them to the user-specified ErrorHandler (or if the error handler is not set, ignore them or throw them), just like any other errors found by the parser itself. In other words, if the user-specified ErrorHandler is set, it must receive those errors, and if not, they must be treated according to the implementation specific default error handling rules. The Javadoc of the DocumentBuilder.parse(InputSource) method says: BTW: I tried setting an error handler via setErrorHandler, but there still is no exception. Now my question: What has changed to 1.6 that prevents the schema validation to throw a SAXParseException? Is it related to the schema or to the xml that I tried to parse?

  I am making one task widget application. This is a simple widget application which can be used to add new tasks by clicking on "+New Task". So ideally what I have done is, I've added a widget first, then when we click on "+New Task" a new activity opens up from where we can type in a new task and it should get updated in the ListView inside the home screen widget. Problem: Now whenever I add a new task, the ListView does not get updated. The data gets inside the database a new is created as well. My onUpdate(...) method gets called as well. There is a WidgetService.java which is a RemoteViewService that is being used to call the RemoteViewFactory but WidgetService.java gets called only when we create the widget, never after that. WidgetService.java never gets called again. I have the following setup MyWidgetProvider.java AppWidgetProvider class for updating the widget and filling its remote views. public class MyWidgetProvider extends AppWidgetProvider { public static int randomNumber=132; Purpose of this is to get a new task added to the list of task. MyWidgetIntentReceiver.java BroadcastReceiver fired using a pending intent that starts an activity GetTaskActivity.java. Please help me out with this problem. I am seen all the posts here and on other websites no body is having any solution. But I am sure a solution exist to this. Thanks for your help!

However, nothing seems to change. I tried restarting Netbeans, just in case, but the old template is still used. How do I get Netbeans to recognize changes to the template for Java Classes?

• Can't get IPv6 address using radvd on wireless interface on windows, wired works fine.

  I set up my router to use OpenWRT and set it up to use IPv6 using a tunnel form SixXs. I'm having problems with stateless autoconfiguration using radvd. On my computer, wired connection can get its IPv6 address fine, but wireless can't. After spending some time on OpenWRT forums, I'm pretty much sure now that router is set up fine and that the problem is with my windows settings. Also, I do not have any problems getting IPv6 address on openSUSE 11.3. So what should I do to solve this and what information should I post? • Why doesn't the F# Set implement ISet<T>?

  The .NET Framework is adding an ISet<T> interface with the 4.0 release. In the same release, F# is being added as a first-class language. F# provides an immutable Set<'T> class. It would seem logical to me that the immutable set provided would implement the ISet<T> interface, but it doesn't. Does anyone know why? My guess is that they didn't want to implement an interface intended to be mutable, but I don't think this explanation holds up. After all, their Map<'Key, 'Value> class implements IDictionary, which is mutable. And there are examples elsewhere in the framework of classes implementing interfaces that are only partially appropriate. My other thought is that ISet<T> is new, so maybe they didn't get around to it. But that seems kind of thin. Does the fact that ISet<T> is generic (v. IDictionary, which is not) have anything to do with it? Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

• Excel I have a .Net object compiled as a tlb but cant not access any methods apart from Dispose.

  Hi This is ongoing issue to something I posted yesterday. I have a .net object that I want to use in Excel. I have an existing VBA script that i need to alter to call this the object from. I have then converted the object to a TLB. I've not really touched on this area before so any help will be appreciated. • Android SDK emulator freezes on a Mac running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

  I'm having trouble running the Android SDK on both of my Macs running OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. This appears to be a 64 bit vs. 32 bit issue, as Snow Leopard now defaults to 64-bit everything, including the Java virtual machine. I found this webpage with instructions on how to get the Android tools to run in the 32-bit Java VM, and I am now able to run the Android GUI tool to download SDK files, create AVM's, etc. However, when I try the Hello World tutorial and get to the point where I run my application under the Android emulator, everything goes south. The emulator appears to start but it hangs (spinning beachball of death cursor) without displaying anything. (This only hangs the emulator; the rest of the system still works fine.) If I follow the exact same steps (minus the 32-bit java hack) in a Windows virtual machine, everything works fine. Googling didn't yield anything useful (except for the 32-bit java hack I spoke of earlier). This occurs on both my Mac Pro tower and 13" MacBook Pro. Does anyone have any suggestions?
