  • iPhone web apps running as native apps

    The browser on the iPhone is capable of using advanced web technologies introduced in HTML5. One of these is the app cache that allows web pages to run on the client, from the cache, without a connection to the internet. Together with Local Storage you can also save data permanently "in" the page. My question is, would it then be possible to make a website that when visited and set as a web clip (bookmark on the home screen), could be accessed again, at any moment. Using HTML5, Javascript and css, you can make some very good apps and at the same time avoid the pricey developer fee, the harsh app approval and the single platform development platform? Or am I just dreaming?

    am i allowed (legally) to use graphics/icons from the android source for a commercial application, in order to blend in nicely with the android look&feel? i am talking specifically about the plus/minus buttons from the edit_contacts activity in the contacts application. OR: is there a way to let a button look like (ie with a style) these buttons without copying the .png - files? trying to use android:background="@android:drawable/btn_circle" gives me Error: Resource is not public. Does this answer my question?

  • Sun-JRE on CentOS-4.8 RPM error: post-install scriptlet failed, exit status 5

    I have a server with CentOS 4.8 installed. The provided is rubbish, but there's only a few months left, and they're busy being sued by Chase bank, so I doubt I can get CentOS 5. I wiped the server clean using Virtuozzo, and found that the default image is VERY empty. I even had to install yum myself. I've reached the point where I want to install TomCat. I downloaded the Sun JRE as a .rpm.bin file, did chmod a+x and ran it.     Just getting started with node, and trying to get the mongo driver to work. The inverse unfortunately doesn't hold, I receive this error: collection.find({}, null, function(err, cursor) { ^ TypeError: Cannot call method 'find' of null I'm sure I'm doing something silly, but for the life of me I can't find it...

    Hi, I've created a UIView (of type ColumnView) in Interface Builder. Is it possible to add that UIView multiple times to my window? I'm trying to create a UIView template that I can add to my window in a couple of places but can't figure out how to do that. I tried referencing the outlet of that UIView to 2 different IBOutlets but when I add the 2 outlets to my window, it's just treated as a single UIView. Need the UIView to be duplicated. Thanks, Tee

    Long winded title, short question: If one wants to develop for Windows but not have to rely on any external dependency (no runtime, thus ruling out .net), what supported, alive and fully functioning* alternatives are there? Visual Basic 6 is dead, Visual C++ is obvious and Delphi seems to be the prime choice for that, but I wonder if there are any other alternatives? *as in: Being able to use all the Windows Features like putting an icon in the Notification Area, making the Taskbar Icon flash etc.

In Java, I can use RESTlet for example, is there any possibility to use something like that for Qt, too? Or is there even a simple way to send data from Qt to RESTful, for example when I create a XML before?

    For the last two days, i tried my best to learn something about StructureMap, using an old project of mine as an concrete implementation example. I tried to simplify my question as much as possible. While i will post my examples in vb.net, answers with examples in C# are also okay. The project includes an interfaces called IDatabase which connects itself to a Database. The important part looks like this. I want it to use a concrete, single instance and want to connect it to a different database invoking Connect with a different ConnectionSettings. The problem is: While i'm pretty sure it's somewhow possible, (my initial idea was registering ExampleClass with alternative constructor arguments), i actually want to do it without registering ExampleClass. This probably involves more configuration, but i have no idea how to do it. So, basically, it comes down to this question: How do i configurate the ObjectFactory in a way that the autowiring always invokes the constructor with object Database1 for the first IDatabase parameter and object Database2 for the second one (if there is one?)

  • Movement and Collision with AABB

    I'm having a little difficulty figuring out the following scenarios. http://i.stack.imgur.com/8lM6i.png In scenario A, the moving entity has fallen to (and slightly into the floor). The current position represents the projected position that will occur if I apply the acceleration & velocity as usual without worrying about collision. The Next position, represents the corrected projection position after collision check. The resulting end position is the falling entity now rests ON the floor--that is, in a consistent state of collision by sharing it's bottom X axis with the floor's top X axis. My current update loop looks like the following: // figure out forces & accelerations and project an objects next position // check collision occurrence from current position -> projected position // if a collision occurs, adjust projection position Which seems to be working for the scenario of my object falling to the floor. However, the situation becomes sticky when trying to figure out scenario's B & C. In scenario B, I'm attempt to move along the floor on the X axis (player is pressing right direction button) additionally, gravity is pulling the object into the floor. The problem is, when the object attempts to move the collision detection code is going to recognize that the object is already colliding with the floor to begin with, and auto correct any movement back to where it was before. In scenario C, I'm attempting to jump off the floor. Again, because the object is already in a constant collision with the floor, when the collision routine checks to make sure moving from current position to projected position doesn't result in a collision, it will fail because at the beginning of the motion, the object is already colliding. How do you allow movement along the edge of an object? How do you allow movement away from an object you are already colliding with. Extra Info My collision routine is based on AABB sweeping test from an old gamasutra article, http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3383/simple_intersection_tests_for_games.php?page=3 My bounding box implementation is based on top left/bottom right instead of midpoint/extents, so my min/max functions are adjusted.   • Need to find jni.h in cmake on Mac

    I am trying to make VTK compile on a Mac Air machine. I am using CMake 2.8-9, using Xcode4 as the generator. If I press the Configure button with VTK_WRAP_JAVA not checked, it will go with no errors. However I definitely need to use the wrap java since my main program is in Java and I need to get to VTK which is c++. As soon as I check the wrap Java, I get Could NOT find JNI. It apparently is looking for jni.h which in Linux there is no problem finding, but in the Mac it apparently can't find it. I did a locate jni.h and got new-host-2:~ geraldkolodny$ locate jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.8.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Headers/jni.h /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_07.jdk/Contents/Home/include/jni.h I tried to manually put into JAVA_INCLUDE_PATH2 either entry 2 or 3 (without the jni.h at the end), but it still can't find jni.h. Xcode used to have a template for jni but that is now gone in the latest version. I am fresh out of ideas on how to solve this problem. I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks, Ilan

    I'm trying to get input from slick2d into nifty gui. Ive searched online, and I've seen a few examples, but I can't seem to get it working right. i've tried the example on here but I can't seem to get everything working. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong. I've also looked at examples using the JMonkeyEngine to help point me in the right direction, but still having issues with input. I can get everything else working like i need. In so far as what I have tried, I attempted to define a custom input listener to pick up events and assign that to my game in order to pick up input, which did not work, so i dropped that implementation, at current i'm trying to take the default inputs and bind then with a PlainSlickInputSystem and assigning that to the input (as shown in the first example link). On code execution, all the code is hit, and i've put several system.out.println's to get ouput of what is happening (the code above has been cleaned for presentation), and i even see the elements getting bound to the controller, yet it doesn't pick up controller events. As far as EXACTLY what's wrong, that I don't know, because I've followed all implementations i can find of this, and none of them seem to do anything it's like the input is just getting thrown out. None of the objects from niftyGui appear to be recognizing any input.   • Alternative native api for Process.Start

    Ok this is not duplicate of "http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2065592/alternative-to-process-start" because my question is something different here. I need to run a process and wait till execution of process and get the output of console. There is way to set RedirectStandardOutput and RedirectStandardError to true, however this does not function well on some machines, (where .NET SDK is not installed), only .NET runtime is installed, now it works on some machines and doesnt work on some machines so we dont know where is the problem. I have following code, ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo("myapp.exe", cmd); info.CreateNoWindow = true; info.UseShellExecute = false; info.RedirectStandardError = true; info.RedirectStandardOutput = true; Process p = Process.Start(info); p.WaitForExit(); Trace.WriteLine(p.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd()); Trace.WriteLine(p.StandardError.ReadToEnd()); On some machines, this will hang forever on p.WaitForExit(), and one some machine it works correctly, the behaviour is so random and there is no clue. Now if I can get a real good workaround for this using pinvoke, I will be very happy.
