  I was given a task. Write an algorithm so that, the input of 2 lists of data, will have at least one in common. So, this is my algorithm: (I write the code in php) $arrayA = array('5', '6', '1', '2', '7'); $arrayB = array('9', '2', '1', '8', '3'); $arrayC = array(); foreach($arrayA as $val){ if(in_array($val, $arrayB)){ array_push($arrayC, $val); } } Thats my own algo, not sure if its a good one. So, based on my algorithm, how to find the formula of best case and worst case (big O)? Note: Please do let me know, if my algorithm is wrong.   Hi I'm stuck on a problem and if possible I will need help from the community. I'm not looking for a ready-made solution, but something which would help me to produce the result. I'm looking for a way to produce a dynamic activity based on a JSON object. Here an example of a JSON object: [ { "name": "my checkbox name", "type": "checkbox", "value": "one,two,three" } { "name": "my edit text", "type": "text", "value": "" } ...] This JSONObject could be totally random. I could have 2 text views, 3 select menus, 1 text view and so on. The goal is to iterate over this JSONObject and create the appropriate elements within my android code. To produce the result I've thought of a simple switch which would render one by one my different JSONObject to an android widget. But after that how could I have access of every property of every widget rendered? Thank you.

  My site has a messaging feature where one user may message another. The messages support threading - a parent message may have any number of children but only one level deep. The messages table looks like this: Messages - Id (PK, Auto-increment int) - UserId (FK, Users.Id) - FromUserId (FK, Users.Id) - ParentMessageId (FK to Messages.Id) - MessageText (varchar 200) I'd like to show messages on a page with each 'parent' message followed by a collapsed view of the children messages. Can I use the GROUP BY clause or similar construct to retrieve parent messages and children messages all in one query? Right now I am retrieving parent messages only, then looping through them and performing another query for each to get all related children messages. I'd like to get messages like this: Parent1 Child1 Child2 Child3 Parent2 Child1 Parent3 Child1 Child2

• PHP: How to Pass child class __construct() arguments to parent::__construct() ?

  I have a class in PHP like so: class ParentClass { function __construct($arg) { // Initialize a/some variable(s) based on $arg } } It has a child class, as such: class ChildClass extends ParentClass { function __construct($arg) { // Let the parent handle construction. parent::__construct($arg); } } What if, for some reason, the ParentClass needs to change to take more than one optional argument, which I would like my Child class to provide "just in case"? Unless I re-code the ChildClass, it will only ever take the one argument to the constructor, and will only ever pass that one argument. Is this so rare or such a bad practice that the usual case is that a ChildClass wouldn't need to be inheriting from a ParentClass that takes different arguments? Essentially, I've seen in Python where you can pass a potentially unknown number of arguments to a function via somefunction(*args) where 'args' is an array/iterable of some kind. Does something like this exist in PHP? Or should I refactor these classes before proceeding?

• Best way to pass a 2d array into javascript from php?

  Ok, what i'm trying to do here is to pass a 2d array from php to javascript in the easiest way possible. The main reason for this is because i have the array which is previously filled with data via the phpscript and doing it one by one and just "calling it as it's needed" will not work out too well since well there's more than just one row required when it's called and i'd rather not do something like for all of the elements in it as it's number is unknown until it gets said data from the database. I was going to do a while loop to write in some of the data into elements sot hat it coudl be later pulled up more easily but i cannot seem to find an easy way to do this currently. If anyone has an easy way to transfer this to javascript without having to do what i previously said.

• Sending files through a webservice

  Hi, I have to send some files through a webservice in C#. The files to be sent can be from different locations i.e. there is one folder having 4 files and another folder having 5 files. Assuming i have a mechanism to select which files to send. What would be the best way to send those files? Should I be sending them one by one and let the client figure out how to put them together, or zip all the files into a single file and send that zip file to the client. If there is any other way to implement this, I would be more than happy to look into that approach too. Thanks

• How do I indicate that a class doesn't support certain operators?

  I'm writing a class that represents an ordinal scale, but has no logical zero-point (eg time). This scale should permit addition and substraction (operator+, operator+=, ...) but not multiplication. Yet, I always felt it to be a good practice that when one overloads one operator of a certain group (in this case the math operators), one should also overload all the others that belong to that group. In this case that would mean I should need to overload the multiplication and division operators also, because if a user can use A+B he would probable expect to be able the other operators. Is there a method that I can use to throw an error for this at compiler time? The easiest method would be just no to overload the operators operator*, ... yet it would seem appropriate to add a bit more explaination than operator* is not know for class "time". Or is this something that I really should not care about (RTFM user)?

• What is a good way to quantify C++ knowledge and skill?

  I have only recently started to study (with the hopes of mastering) C++, one because i have started to love it and two because it's a good career/profession move. At the same time i wish to quantify my knowledge and skill so as to set my self apart from those who just throw C/C++ on their resumes and fish. Is there an open, industry and community recognized way of quantifying ones knowledge and skill in C++? I have looked at Brainbench, MS C++ certificates, and other online certification sites which offer to rate you at $50-$200 per test however there doesn't seem to be a standard on how to rate knowledge and skill. It's one thing for MS or Oracle/Sun to have certifications for their products but C++ is a standard, shouldn't there be a standard way or rating one's knowledge and skill there in? Thanks.

  Situation: I have a DAY structure. The DAY structure has three variables or attributes: a Date (NSString*), a Temperature (float), and a Rainfall (float). Problem: I will be iterating through an array of about 5000 DAY structures and graphing a portion of these onto the screen using OpenGL. Question: As far as drawing performance, which is better? I could simply create an NSMutableArray of DAY structures (NSObjects) and iterate on the array on each draw call -- which I think would be hard on the CPU. Or, I could instead manually manage three different C-Arrays -- One for the Date String (2-Dimensional), One for the temperature (1-Dimensional) and One for the Rainfall (1-Dimensional). I could keep track of the current Day by referencing the current index of the iterated C-Arrays.

  Hi! I have setup subversion 1.6.5 on Fedora. I have decided to use a single repository for multiple projects. I have added one project, projA, to the repository. I will have more projects to add to the repository in future. If I try to add next project with the command 'svn import . file:///path/to/repos' gives svn: File already exists: filesystem '/usr/local/svn-repos/proj-test/db', transa ction '1-1', path '/trunk'. The new projB is being added to the trunk directory of projA. I have read the section "Adding Projects" in http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.1/ch05s04.html In that book, projects are added at once. But,I would like to add them one by one as new projects become ready to go. What is the proper command and/or how that can be done? Thanks. Banani

• Trying to programmatically add a SQL Alias to the registry (just need help with parameters)

  Normally when we spin up a new instance we need to add an alias on one of our boxes so we can easily connect to it through SSMS using SQL Server Configuration Manager. I have written a batch file which adds the appropriate entry into the registry (it is actually two batch files, one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit). I am not sure how to get this to run with parameters though. I know %1 and %2 would be for the first two parameters, but when I run this, in the registry it actually puts %1 and %2 as the value pair. if you hardcode hostname and IP Address in place of %1 and %2 the batch file works as expected: REGEDIT4 ; @ECHO OFF ; CLS ; REGEDIT.EXE /S "%~f0" ; EXIT [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Client\ConnectTo] "%1"="DBMSSOCN,%2,1433"

  If there is a view controller that wants to execute a number of block based tasks one at a time, how can the control be given back to the view controller after a completion block has executed. Lets say ViewControllerOne wants to execute a number of tasks, each relying on the result of the previous one, how would this control be given back to the viewcontroller after each completion block has been executed? I started thinking about this and I was heading towards a deeply nested block pattern that will surely only cause confusion to whoever else reads or tests it. A task executes and the completion block returns the result or error which is needed by the next task, which has its own completion task, that the next task relies on and so forth. How can the control be managed in one place, the viewcontroller? Would the completion block just call the next function that handles the next task, using a pointer to the view controller?

I have javascript function in my aspx page that i call on the onclick event.but on one particular machine it always automatically called on body onload in infinite loop. Though I already remove all the caching and delte the history and temp files. This seems very strange to me .It works fine on all the machine excpt one.   Obviously there is no public GUID.TryParse() in .NET CLR 2.0. So, I was looking into regular expressions [aka googling around to find one] and each time I found one there was a heated argument in the comments section about RegEx A doesn't work, use RegEx B. Then someone would write Regex C yadda yadda So anyway, What I decided to do was this, but I feel bad about it. public static bool IsGuid (string possibleGuid) { try { Guid gid = new Guid(possibleGuid); return true; } catch (Exception ex) { return false; } } Obviously I don't really like this since it's been drilled into me since day one to avoid throwing exceptions if you can defensibly code around it. Does anyonek now why there is no public Guid.TryParse() in the .NET Framework? Does anyone have a real Regular Expression that will work for all GUIDs?

• R get rid of rows with duplicate attribute

  hi there I have a big dataframe with columns such as: ID, time, OS, IP Each row of that dataframe corresponds to one entry. Within that dataframe for some IDs serveral entries (rows) exist. I would like to get rid of those multiple rows (obviously the other attributes will differ for the same ID). Or put different: I only want one single entry (row) for each ID. Could anyone be so kind and help me out on this one? When I use unique, on the ID column, I only recieve the levels (or each unique ID), but I want to keep the other attributes as well... I have tried to use apply(x,2,unique(data$ID)), but this does not work either... Any help is highly appreciated!

• JSF Rendering Issue (Page getting cached)

  I am facing a strange issue with JSF. I have developed one controller and bind it to request scope. I need to access one jsf page like http://localhost:8080/selectRule.jsf?type=A and on the same IE session I want to issue another request like http://localhost:8080/selectRule.jsf?type=B as we can see, only the type is changing here. This is why I have a ruleController bound to request scope, so that every request, creates the controller and pulls out the data depending upon type. I have a private HtmlSelectOneMenu choices item in the page. What I see is, somehow only once in the session the getChoices() is getting called. This is what I see For each url, one new ruleController object is getting created. Only first time getChoices() are called. In the subsequent time, if I change the URL in the web browser, the getChoices() method are not getting called though a new controller is getting created. Note: I am using JSF 1.1

  I have a C shell script that calls two C programs - one after the another with some file handling before, in-between and afterwards. Now, as such I have three different files - one C shell script and 2 .c files. I need to give this script to other users. The problem is that I have to distribute three files - which the users must keep in the same folder and then execute the script. Is there some better way to do this? [I know I can make one C code file out of those two... but I will still be left with a shell script and a C code.   I'm a little lost as how to run two mysql queries as one(return one result set to be sorted etc). I understand how to do multiple JOINS but need to combine the below which is more than just a multiple join - it would include a multiple where etc. 1st query sql = "SELECT s.id, s.song_name FROM `songs` as s INNER JOIN `artists` as a ON s.artist_id = a.id WHERE ((`a`.id = #{search}))" 2nd query sql = "SELECT s.id, s.song_name FROM `songs` as s INNER JOIN `similarments` as si ON s.artist_id = si.artist_id WHERE ((`si`.similar_id = #{search}))" And then run both queries at once so I can ORDER them etc. Or combine them as one big query (maybe put an OR somewhere)? • mdi child forms slow to draw when visibility changed

  My application has the following UI configuration: The main form is an MDI container. Its child forms are attached to a tabstrip. Each user has his set of child forms. Depending on the active user, only that user's child forms are displayed, together with tabs. This is achieved by going through the main form's MdiChildren and setting their Visible property to false/true depending on the active user. This has two undesired effects. One is that every child form gets redrawn in succession, which is ugly and slow. The other is that for some reason the forms go from maximized to normal, effectively undocking them from the main form. Is there any way to display just one of the child forms, such as the one the user was previously looking at, and get the others to stay in the background? The maximize/normal thing is not that big a deal because I can maximize them again manually.

  I have written a little streaming mp3 server in python. So far all it does is accept a ServerSocket connection, and begin streaming all mp3 data in its queue to the request using socket.send(). I have implemented this to chunk in stream icy metadata, so the name of the playing song shows up in the client. I would like to add playlist management to the server, so that I can manipulate the playlist of the running server. I have a vague idea that xmlrpclib would be suited to doing this, but I'm confused about one thing: When I start the server it listens on port N. The python xmlrpclib examples involve creating a socket and listening for requests. So my question is should server listen on two ports; i.e., one for streaming client requests and one for xmlrpclib calls, or is there a way to do it by somehow delegating the request to the appropriate handler based on its type?
