Use VersionControlExt.Explorer outside Visual Studio

Hi All, I'm developing a TFS tool to assist the developers in our company. This said tool needs to be able to "browse" the TFS server like in the Source Control Explorer. I believe that by using VersionControlExt.Explorer.SelectedItems, a UI will pop-up that will enable the user to browse the TFS server (please correct me if I'm wrong). However, VersionControlExt is only accessible when developing inside Visual Studio (aka Plugin). Unfortunately, I am developing a Windows Application that won;t run inside VS. So the question is, Can I use VersionControlExt outside of Visual Studio? If yes, how? C#.NET vs VB.NET, Which language is better?

Features I cannot say any language good or bad as long as it's compiler can produce MSIL can run under .NET CLR. If someone says C# has more futures, you can understand that those new features are of C# compiler but not .NET, because if C# has a specific future then CLR cannot understand them. So the new features of C# will have to convert to the code understood by CLR eventually. that means the new features are developed for C# compiler basically to facilitates the developer to write their code in better way. so that means no difference in feature list between C# and VB.NET if you think in CLR perspective. Readability But some people say VB.NET code most readable for the members who are from non technical background, because keywords are generally in English rather special charectors. No of Projects in Market I assume 80 percent of market uses C# in their .NET development. for example in my company many projects are there .nET and all are using C#. Productivity & Experience though the feature list is same, generally developers wants to write code in their familiar languages. because it increase the productivity. How can I add the suffix on the day number of a unix date? I'll explain. I have a TextMate bundle snippit that writes out today's date. It uses unix date and formatting. Here is the code: `date +%A` `date +%d` `date +%B` `date +%Y` It outputs: Monday 22 March 2010 I would like to add the suffix to the day (st, nd, rd and th) like so: Monday 22nd March 2010 As far as I can see, there is no native function in the unix date formatting, like there is in PHP (j). How would I achieve this in unix? A complicated regex on the day number?

Why can't I install MVC (1 or 2) with Visual Web Developer Express 2008 RC1?

Hi all, I have installed VWD 2010 Express and love MVC2. I have an existing ASP.NET 3.5 website that I'd like to redevelop with ASP.NET MVC2 under VWD 2008 with the 3.5 framework (the host only supports .Net 3.5, and Express 2010 doesn't support targeting of .Net framework versions) I am however unable to install MVC2 with VWD 2008. The installer (for 2008 SP1) says it has installed, but the MVC project templates don't show up when I create a new project. I also had this problem originally with MVC1 which is why I gave up at some point and just created it as a normal ASP.NET website. I tried uninstalling and installing VWD 2008, and then installing MVC2, but this didn't solve the problem. Does anyone know why this problem occurs, or how to solve it? Or is there a way to add these templates and the tooling manually?

In their example, the data was hard-wired in code. So I'm trying to learn how to get the data from a data source (like a DB). In my specific case, I want to get the data from a Microsoft Access DB. Using IIRF to redirect to a PDF

I'm using IIRF to redirect certain URLs to specific PDF files. For instance, for the URL /newsletter/2010/02 I'd like it to redirect to /pdf/newsletters/Feb2010.pdf. I'm not too hot at regular expressions, but I created the following rule: RedirectRule ^/newsletter/2010/01 /pdf/newsletters/Newsletter012010.pdf [I,R=301] and it does redirect, but the address bar doesn't change, and when trying to save the file it wants to save as 01 instead of Feb2010.pdf. I don't presume my users will be savvy enough to enter a PDF extension before saving, and they shouldn't have to. Is there anything I can do about this?

I know there's a Rest API to check the Twitter rate limit. To summarize policy: 150 for an IP, and 150 per non-whitelisted account except for searches (which are IP only). However, my app is using Twython, authenticated, but the limit seems to decrease for both my accounts as I use it. Accessing Bluetooth virtual COM port on Windows without manual pairing

I need to connect to a Bluetooth device through virtual COM port created in Windows. It's easy when the port has been already created during manual pairing procedure. But I would like my application to relieve an user from the manual pairing of a device. I would like to present all devices in the range, allow user to chose one, and then create virtual COM port connected with the selected device. I'm not trying to avoid the pairing procedure itself, but rather I would like to invoke it by my application. I started getting familiar with Microsoft Bluetooth API. And then some doubts arose. I've been wondering what happen if some user would use different (than Microsoft's) Bluetooth stack? Is the Microsoft's API the real Bluetooth API, which have to be implemented by any other Bluetooth stack provider? Or rather each provider has its own API, and the Microsoft's is only one of many other?

How does .NET determine the week in a TimeZoneInfo.TransitionTime ?

Greetings I'm trying to do some DateTime math for various time zones and I wanted to take daylight savings into account. Lets say I have a TimeZoneInfo and i've determined the appropriate AdjustmentRule for a given DateTime. Lets also say the particular TimeZoneInfo i'm dealing with is specified as rule.DaylightTransitionStart.IsFixedDateRule == false, so I need to figure out if the given DateTime falls within the start/end TransitionTime.Week values. This is where I'm getting confused, what is .NET considering as a "week"? My first thought was it probably used something like DayOfWeek thisMarksWeekBoundaries = Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.DateTimeFormat.FirstDayOfWeek; and went through the calendar assigning days to week, incrementing week every time it crossed a boundary. But, if I do this for May 2010 there are 6 week boundary buckets, and the max valid value for TransitionTime.Week is 5 so this can't be right. Whats the right way to slice up May 2010?

Hi Guys, I'm using SWFUpload and Paperclip on Rails 2.3.5 to upload images and videos. How can I store the capture date of images and duration of videos? The following works correctly in irb: irb(main):001:0> File.new('hatem.jpg').mtime => Tue Mar 09 16:56:38 +0200 2010 But when I try to use Paperclip's before_post_process: before_post_process :get_file_info def get_file_info puts File.new(self.media.to_file.path).mtime # =>Wed Apr 14 18:36:22 +0200 2010 end I get the current date instead of the capture date. How can I fix this? Also, how can I get the video duration and store it with the model? Thank you.

Checking if a user input is a valid date or a valid "date + time" is easy: .NET provides DateTime.TryParse (and, in addition, VB.NET provides IsDate). Now, I want to check if the user entered a date including a time component. So, when using a German locale, 31.12.2010 00:00 should be OK, but 31.12.2010 shouldn't. I know I could use DateTime.TryParseExact like this: Dim formats() As String = {"d.M.yyyy H:mm:ss", "dd.M.yyyy H:mm:ss", _ "d.MM.yyyy H:mm:ss", "d.MM.yyyy H:mm:ss", _ "d.M.yyyy H:mm", ...} Dim result = DateTime.TryParseExact(userInput, formats, _ Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentCulture, ..., result) but then I would hard-code the German format of specifying dates (day dot month dot year), which is considered bad practice and will make trouble should we ever want to localize our application. In addition, formats would be quite a large list of all possible combinations (one digit, two digits, ...). Is there a more elegant solution?

pass username and password to get-credential or run sql query without using invoke-sqlcmd in Powersh

I am trying to connect to a remote sql database and simply run the "select @@servername" query in Powershell. I'm trying to do this without using integrated security. I've been struggling with "get-credential" and "invoke-sqlcmd", only to find (I think), that you can't pass the password from "get-credential" to another Powershell cmdlets.
