  • PHP: require_once library -> failed to open stream

    - by matt
I might be a bit confused and may need your help with this. I'm inside inc/newsletter.php and want to include a library that is inside lib/mailchimp-api-class How do I refer to this class file? I thought it should be … require_once '../lib/mailchimp-api-class/MCAPI.class.php'; However, this doesn't work …  Warning: require_once(../lib/mailchimp-api-class/MCAPI.class.php) [function.require- once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /Users/myname/htdocs/wr/ wp-content/themes/mytheme/inc/newsletter.php on line 6

  • Implementing "Generator" support in a custom language

    - by Roger Alsing
I've got a bit of fettish for language design and I'm currently playing around with my own hobby language. (http://rogeralsing.com/2010/04/14/playing-with-plastic/) One thing that really makes my mind bleed is "generators" and the "yield" keyword. I know C# uses AST transformation to transform enumerator methods into statemachines. But how does it work in other languages? Is there any way to get generator support in a language w/o AST transformation? e.g. Does languages like Python or Ruby resort to AST transformations to solve this to? (The question is how generators are implemented under the hood in different languages, not how to write a generator in one of them)

  • Maven "Module" vs "Project"

    - by Ricket
I'm a beginner at Maven and I've played with it from a command line point of view a little, so now I was trying to use it in Eclipse; I installed the m2eclipse plugin to do so. But I'm stumped from the very beginning! Apparently I've missed a bit of terminology somewhere along the line. I can't keep track of all these new Maven terms... What is a Maven Project, and what is a Maven Module? These are my options when creating a new project in the Maven category in Eclipse.

  • Data structure in c for fast look-up/insertion/removal of integers (from a known finite domain)

    - by MrDatabase
I'm writing a mobile phone based game in c. I'm interested in a data structure that supports fast (amortized O(1) if possible) insertion, look-up, and removal. The data structure will store integers from the domain [0, n] where n is known ahead of time (it's a constant) and n is relatively small (on the order of 100000). So far I've considered an array of integers where the "ith" bit is set iff the "ith" integer is contained in the set (so a[0] is integers 0 through 31, a[1] is integers 32 through 63 etc). Is there an easier way to do this in c?

  • optimal memory layout for read-only/write memory segments.

    - by aaa
hello. Suppose I have two memory segments (equal size each, approximately 1kb in size) , one is read-only (after initialization), and other is read/write. what is the best layout in memory for such segments in terms of memory performance? one allocation, contiguous segments or two allocations (in general not contiguous). my primary architecture is linux Intel 64-bit. my feeling is former (cache friendlier) case is better. is there circumstances, where second layout is preferred? Thanks

  • Programming related name for a kitten? [closed]

    - by andrhamm
I am a programmer and I just got my first kitten. A Google search for nerdy/geeky cat names was unimpressive. She's a little black kitten with a very courageous and adventurous attitude! She has a little light gray spot on her chest which might turn white with time. Here she is on my Flickr Which name would you suggest? Which of these do you like? It should be something short that has a couple contrasting sounds so it stands out a bit when you say it. PHP is my favorite scripting language but it makes for a lousy name :P Java Pixel Perl Ruby Gizmo Mocha Thanks for the help!

  • Downloading a file in ASP.NET (through the server) while streaming it to the user

    - by James Teare
    My ASP.NET website currently downloads a file from a remote server to a local drive, although when users access the site they have to wait for the server to finish downloading the file until they can then download the file from my ASP.NET website. Is it possible to almost stream the download from the remote website - through my ASP.NET website directly to the user (a bit like a proxy) ? My current code is as follows: using (var client = new WebClientEx()) { client.DownloadFile(downloadURL, "outputfile.zip"); } WebClient class: public class WebClientEx : WebClient { public CookieContainer CookieContainer { get; private set; } public WebClientEx() { CookieContainer = new CookieContainer(); } protected override WebRequest GetWebRequest(Uri address) { var request = base.GetWebRequest(address); if (request is HttpWebRequest) { (request as HttpWebRequest).CookieContainer = CookieContainer; } return request; } }

  • Would an ORM have any way of determining that a SQLite column contains date-times or booleans?

    - by DanM
I've been thinking about using SQLite for my next project, but I'm concerned that it seems to lack proper datetime and bit data types. If I use DbLinq (or some other ORM) to generate C# classes, will the data types of the properties be "dumbed down"? Will date-time data be placed in properties of type string or double? Will boolean data be placed in properties of type int? If yes, what are the implications? I'm envisioning a scenario where I need to write a whole second layer of classes with more specific data types and do a bunch of transformations and casts, but maybe it's not as bad as I fear. If you have any experience with this or a similar scenario, how did you handle it?

  • jQuery Corners and IE Problems

    - by Tom
    Hi Guys, I am using "malsups" jQuery corner plugin - http://jquery.malsup.com/corner/ - and having a bit of nightmare of a time with IE. Basically I have <ol><li> <span class="main"> <span class="test1"></span> <span class="test2"></span> <span class="test3"> <span id="test4"></span> <span id="special" class="special"> <span class="test4">TEXT</span> </span> </span> </li></ol> Basically, in IE when I try and make the id="special" have rounded corners - i get a distorted view. I think its something related to problems with referencing li elements using jQuery('#special').corner('5px'); Could anyone help :) ?

  • Need to convert this for loop to a while loop

    - by Bragaadeesh
Hi guys, I solved a problem recently. But I have this one piece of code where I dont utilize the for loop initialization and condition check. It looks a bit odd that way for a for loop. I want to convert it into a while loop. Please help me do it. I tried many times, but somewhere something is missing. for(;;current =(current+1)%n){ if(eliminated[current%n]){ continue; }else{ inkiPinki++; if(inkiPinki == m){ eliminated[current%n] = true; printStatus(eliminated, people); remainingGuys--; break; } } } In the above code eliminiated[index] is a boolean.

  • C, Cygwin, and compiling drand and srand

    - by Kaytiana
Hello, I have a C code which I am trying to compile in Cygwin and which contains both the drand() and srand() functions. I had Windows Vista with Cygwin installed and the code seemed to comile fine, but my computer broke and I had to get a new one. The new computer has Windows 7 64-bit version. I had a few issues downloading Cygwin but finally managed to do it by only selecting a few packages and then have been trying to get the rest that I need. The problem is I don't have the help I had installing it on my other computer so I don't know which packages I actually need, so I have just been guessing (all the gcc ones) but I mustn't have the one I need for srand and drand to work. If anyone could point me in the right direction, and also possibly just let me know which packages I need to compile C so I can check I have them all that would be great. Thanks a lot in advance for any help. Sorry, that was a lot of words! Kaytiana

  • How do you control what your C compiler Optimizes?

    - by Jordan S
    I am writing the firmware for an embedded device in C using the Silicon Labs IDE and the SDCC compiler. The device architecture is based on the 8051 family. The function in question is shown below. The function is used to set the ports on my MCU to drive a stepper motor. It gets called in by an interrupt handler. The big switch statement just sets the ports to the proper value for the next motor step. The bottom part of the function looks at an input from a hall effect sensor and a number of steps moved in order to detect if the motor has stalled. The problem is, for some reason the second IF statement that looks like this if (StallDetector > (GapSize + 20)) { HandleStallEvent(); } always seems to get optimized out. If I try to put a breakpoint at the HandleStallEvent() call the IDE gives me a message saying "No Address Correlation to this line number". I am not really good enough at reading assembly to tell what it is doing but I have pasted a snippet from the asm output below. Any help would be much appreciated. void OperateStepper(void) { //static bit LastHomeMagState = HomeSensor; static bit LastPosMagState = PosSensor; if(PulseMotor) { if(MoveDirection == 1) // Go clockwise { switch(STEPPER_POSITION) { case 'A': STEPPER_POSITION = 'B'; P1 = 0xFD; break; case 'B': STEPPER_POSITION = 'C'; P1 = 0xFF; break; case 'C': STEPPER_POSITION = 'D'; P1 = 0xFE; break; case 'D': STEPPER_POSITION = 'A'; P1 = 0xFC; break; default: STEPPER_POSITION = 'A'; P1 = 0xFC; } //end switch } else // Go CounterClockwise { switch(STEPPER_POSITION) { case 'A': STEPPER_POSITION = 'D'; P1 = 0xFE; break; case 'B': STEPPER_POSITION = 'A'; P1 = 0xFC; break; case 'C': STEPPER_POSITION = 'B'; P1 = 0xFD; break; case 'D': STEPPER_POSITION = 'C'; P1 = 0xFF; break; default: STEPPER_POSITION = 'A'; P1 = 0xFE; } //end switch } //end else MotorSteps++; StallDetector++; if(PosSensor != LastPosMagState) { StallDetector = 0; LastPosMagState = PosSensor; } else { if (PosSensor == ON) { if (StallDetector > (MagnetSize + 20)) { HandleStallEvent(); } } else if (PosSensor == OFF) { if (StallDetector > (GapSize + 20)) { HandleStallEvent(); } } } } //end if PulseMotor } ... and the asm output for the the bottom part of this function... ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:653: if(PosSensor != LastPosMagState) mov c,_P1_4 jb _OperateStepper_LastPosMagState_1_1,00158$ cpl c 00158$: jc 00126$ C$MotionControl.c$655$3$7 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:655: StallDetector = 0; clr a mov _StallDetector,a mov (_StallDetector + 1),a C$MotionControl.c$657$3$7 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:657: LastPosMagState = PosSensor; mov c,_P1_4 mov _OperateStepper_LastPosMagState_1_1,c ret 00126$: C$MotionControl.c$661$2$8 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:661: if (PosSensor == ON) jb _P1_4,00123$ C$MotionControl.c$663$4$9 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:663: if (StallDetector > (MagnetSize + 20)) mov a,_MagnetSize mov r2,a rlc a subb a,acc mov r3,a mov a,#0x14 add a,r2 mov r2,a clr a addc a,r3 mov r3,a clr c mov a,r2 subb a,_StallDetector mov a,r3 subb a,(_StallDetector + 1) jnc 00130$ C$MotionControl.c$665$5$10 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:665: HandleStallEvent(); ljmp _HandleStallEvent 00123$: C$MotionControl.c$668$2$8 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:668: else if (PosSensor == OFF) jnb _P1_4,00130$ C$MotionControl.c$670$4$11 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:670: if (StallDetector > (GapSize + 20)) mov a,#0x14 add a,_GapSize mov r2,a clr a addc a,(_GapSize + 1) mov r3,a clr c mov a,r2 subb a,_StallDetector mov a,r3 subb a,(_StallDetector + 1) jnc 00130$ C$MotionControl.c$672$5$12 ==. ; C:\SiLabs\Optec Programs\HSFW_HID_SDCC_2\MotionControl.c:672: HandleStallEvent(); C$MotionControl.c$678$2$1 ==.   • I do not write tests. Am I stupid?

    - by Josh Stodola
I've done a little bit of reading on unit testing and TDD, and I've never seriously considered writing tests to such a precise extent. Granted, I am not working on any projects that are ridiculously huge. If all I build are small apps, am I stupid for not writing tests? Edit: To clarify, when I say "small apps", I mean apps that are not going to control a persons life and/or their belongings. I generally build things that are supposed to make peoples lives easier and to make them more efficient.

  • PHP check if file exists on my server, based on a full URL

    - by stef
I have an app that generates invoices in the form of PDF files stored in a directory on my server. Before mailing out this invoices I'd like to make sure that the URL (not server path) which I store in my DB does indeed point to a valid PDF file. Something could have gone wrong that wrote a value to that field in the db, but for example the filename is missing; meaning the file is not in the specified directory. AFAIK file_exists just checks server paths but not URL's. I could always store the server path too, or assemble it, but I'm wondering if i can do this check based on a full http url ending with a filename? EDIT: yeah CURL occurred to me too but doesn't that seem a bit heavy for such a simple task? Perhaps I should just store the server path too.

  • Pros and cons of ways of storing an unsigned int without an unsigned int data type

    - by fields
I have values that are 64-bit unsigned ints, and I need to store them in mongodb, which has no unsigned int type. I see three main possibilities for storing them in other field types, and converting on going in and out: Using a signed int is probably easiest and most space efficient, but has the disadvantage that they're not human readable and if someone forgets to do the conversion, some of them will work, which may obscure errors. Raw binary is probably most difficult for inexperienced programmers to deal with, and also suffers from non-human-readability. A string representation is the least space efficient (~40 bytes in unicode vs 8 bytes per field), but then at least all of the possible values will map properly, and for querying only a conversion to string is required instead of a more complicated conversion. I need these values to be available from different platforms, so a single driver-specific solution isn't an option. Any major pros and cons I've missed? Which one would you use?

  • Java swing examples - Ants running around a world getting food from piles?

    - by Charlie
I haven't done any swing programming in a while, so I'm looking for some GUI examples that are at least close to what I'm trying to do. The gui that I'll need to be representing is small nodes (let's say ants) travelling around collecting food from food piles (which just means small nodes travelling to bigger nodes). Once the node (ant) takes a piece of food, the pile shrinks a bit and the ant takes it back home (to ANOTHER circle). This SOUNDS pretty trivial, but all of the boilerplate involved in setting up a java GUI just makes little logical sense to me, and the GUI is such a small piece of my project. Any examples that would be great for this style of project would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Why Banks or Financial Companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their "Core" systems?

    - by edwin.nathaniel
I'd like to know why most Banks or Financial companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their core systems (the absolutely minimum features that a Bank must support). I found a few answers that didn't satisfy me. For example: Oracle has more features. But features for what? Can't you implement that in application level if you were not using Oracle? Could someone please describe a bit more technical but still on high-level overview of what the bank needs and how Oracle would solve it and the others can't or don't have the features yet? I came from the web-app (web 2.0) crowd who normally hear news about MySQL, PostgreSQL or even key-value/column-oriented storage solution. I have almost zero knowledge on how Banks or Financial companies operates from technical perspective. Thank you, Ed

  • Using Thor for generators in a Ruby Gem

    - by David Burrows
How do I setup a Gem to have a binary command eg. "project newProject" that uses Thor's set of generator commands to create files etc.? A good answer would describe how to layout the skeleton of a gem that that when run from the command line "project newProject" creates 1 file named "newProject.txt" in the directory it's run from. I've seen that Rails 3 is using Thor to power it's generators, seems like a really good solution and i'd like to use a similar approach in non-Rails ruby gem i'm working on. Tried looking at the Rails 3 source but it's a bit labyrinthine hence the question.

    - by ninuhadida
Hi guys, I've been trying to do the following with mod_rewrite on the server there is a file about.htm (which is found in the root directory of the domain) I need to redirect about.htm to about/ On the server still keep about.htm, hence when about/ is called, it actually loads up about.htm I tried something like this: RewriteRule ^about/$ about.htm [L] RewriteRule ^about\.htm$ about/ [R=302] I also tried changing it a bit and see what happends, but I always end up with an infinite loop of redirection or a 500 server error. Any idea why it's not working as intended? Thanks in advance!

  • Deserialize XML to custom Class in Flex?

    - by MysticEarth
Is it possible to deserialize an XML file to a class in Flex without manually checking the XML and/or creating the class, with the help of a HttpService? Edit: Explained a bit more and better. We have an XML file which contains: <Project> <Name>NameGoesHere</Name> <Number>15</Number> </Project> In Flex we want this to be serialized to our Project class: package com.examplepackage { import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; [XmlClass] public class Project { public var Name:String; public var Number:int; public function Project() { } } } The XML is loaded with a HTTPService.

  • Some math and animation

    - by Ockonal
Hello, I have a grass texture: I use it in my 2d-game. I want to animate it by code, without any predefined animations. The grass should interact with wind. So when the wind is stronger, the grass should stoop into need side more. First version of animation I made using sinusoid function, but such animation is a bit ugly, because the base of the grass moves left/right like all another part of picture. And with sinusoid I'm not able to regulate stoop of the image. Any advices?

  • Writing a blocking wrapper around twisted's IRC client

    - by Andrey Fedorov
I'm trying to write a dead-simple interface for an IRC library, like so: import simpleirc connection = simpleirc.Connect('irc.freenode.net', 6667) channel = connection.join('foo') find_command = re.compile(r'google ([a-z]+)').findall for msg in channel: for t in find_command(msg): channel.say("http://google.com/search?q=%s" % t) Working from their example, I'm running into trouble (code is a bit lengthy, so I pasted it here). Since the call to channel.__next__ needs to be returned when the callback <IRCClient instance>.privmsg is called, there doesn't seem to be a clean option. Using exceptions or threads seems like the wrong thing here, is there a simpler (blocking?) way of using twisted that would make this possible?

  • There are lots of useful answers about estimating the cost of a project. Are there any recommendatio

    - by Chrys
Let me clarify this a bit more. I started giving estimations about projects/tasks. I write everything down in a spreadsheet. I know that soon this spreadsheet won't help much (searching, recommending similar project estimations etc...) Do you have any recommendations for any tools I can use for keeping a track of all these estimations? Is there a tool out there that for example will give me related project estimations like stackoverflow gives me related questions when I type one question.
