  • System files not hidden Win XP

    I recently copied my win xp install from one hard to another(via ubuntu live cd) Everything went well, except that all the hidden system files(boot.ini, ntdlr, io.sys) are no longer hidden. I tried this: attrib +s c:/IO.sys No effect. The files are still visible even though the setting to hide system files is checked. Any solutions? Thanks.

  • Browsing Bombs After a Short While

    After a reboot, my internet connection lasts perhaps a half hour or so before tanking. I can ping (by both IP and hostname), but I cannot browse. If I restart the "Network Store Interface Service", my connection comes back. What could be failing with that service or its dependent services that would kill my ability to browse? For some system info, I'm using a Sony Vaio with a fully-patched Windows Vista install and with an Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter.

    A software I need to install on my Ubuntu Hardy has a MAKE file which includes the command cp -n. However, I get an error stating the -n is an invalid option. The command will work on a Mac terminal but I need it to work on Ubuntu. Does anyone know the equivalent command for Ubuntu? Thanks.

    Windows 7 could be better at this, it tells everything about the computer CPU but only the Memory amount Microsoft should add information about DDR type, speed and maybe CL as well. While this never happens, What's the best and easy way to check the installed memory so we can buy and upgrade it?     I need a copy of the Myriad-Roman font that is the default font for Adobe Illustrator. I have Illustrator installed but I need to put the font on my sever so my PDF DLL can read the font since my PDF is using that Myriad-Roman font. Please don't get distracted about the PDF part - I just need to know how to find the font wherever Adobe installs it when I install Illustrator (CS5). TIA!

    After an update yesterday my Dell X300 will only boot to a screen with an option to perform 2 memory tests. If I perform these tests, it will only go back to this same screen, offering a choice of memory test again, 86+ or 86+ serial console 115200. This screen is headed - GNU Grub version 1.97 beta 4. This is a full install on my hard drive. How can I get back to booting normally?

    64-bit Office installs 64-bit IFilters for its document types, but does not install 32-bit IFilters. Therefore, 32-bit programs that rely on IFilters cannot work with 64-bit Office. And although there is an option to download 32-bit IFilters from Microsoft, the installer will not run on a 64-bit machine, complaining about architecture mismatch. Is there any way to make 32-bit programs extract text from Office documents using IFilters when 64-bit Office is installed? Thanks.

    I have several chrooted users on my server, and I want to install git for specific users. I block at the command : git config --global user.name "user_name" I use this command connected as the user, and I got this error : error: could not lock config file /home/username/.gitconfig: Permission denied I tried to create the file from root, and then put chmod 755 and chown username .gitconfig, but I get the error.
