Absolutely positioned element moved by margin of another element

Here is my jsFiddle for the following question: http://jsfiddle.net/arelia/Rruxf/ I'd like to have a header that stays at the very top of the body and a footer that stays at the very bottom of the body. I have a content div (position: relative) between the header and footer, and when I set a margin around the div my absolutely positioned header and footer move from their top/bottom positions by the height of that margin (this also happened when I tried setting a margin above and below the paragraphs in the div). In the fiddle you can see that the footer is not attached to the bottom even though it's absolutely positioned (I went ahead and made the header static since static gives the intended result). How do I position the header and footer to the top and bottom of the body and not have the content in the middle move those two elements? If the position: absolute elements are moved out of the flow why would anything affect their position at all? I've tried searching here and Google for "CSS margin affects absolute" and a few other phrases to no avail. I discovered this while playing around with it some more in developer tools: Metrics show the body is the height of the html element minus the amount of one margin (the margin that's still affecting the footer). So, the body must be stretching to the height of the content div since there is nothing else within the document flow within the body to define its height. But that height ends where the content ends instead of after the margin. Shouldn't it include the margin? If I make the height of the body 100%, the footer positions itself to the bottom of the viewport and then stays fixed in that spot when I scroll. Why isn't it attaching itself to the bottom of the body instead of the bottom of the viewport?

Finding the Largest and Smallest Integers In A Set- Basic

I'm kind of on the right track, however my output is not quite right. The program asks for the number of integers you have and then it asks for those numbers. For an example is says please enter the number of integers, you can put 3. And then you enter 3 numbers. I can't use arrays because I am a beginner student and we have not learned those yet. Using count is the only way that allows me to input integers. What do I need to add to my program? Again I am a general computer science student so I can't use anything advanced. How can I create a .jar file?

In the tutorial I found out that jar files can be created in the following way: jar cf jar-file input-file(s) However, it was not clear what are the input-file(s). Is that .java files or .class files? From the examples on the same page I can assume that should be .class files. But now it is not clear which .class files should I put there. After the compilation of .java files I have a lot of .class files. One of the reason of that is that I have a lot files like that: GameWindow$2$10class, GameWindow$2$7.class and so on. Should I include all of them into the command line for the creation of the .jar file? To run my application I use java Game. So, my be I need to use only Game.class file when I create a .jar file? On the other hand other class files corresponds to classes used by the application. My software use external libraries (during compilation I specify .jar files of these libraries). Will .jar file of my application be able to run on the computer which does not contain the .jar file of used library?

How can I have a Label change dynamically based on a Slider Value?

learning C++ from java, trying to make a linked list.

I just started learning c++ (coming from java) and am having some serious problems with doing anything :P Currently, i am attempting to make a linked list, but must be doing something stupid cause i keep getting "void value not ignored as it ought to be" compile errors (i have it marked where it is throwing it bellow). If anyone could help me with what im doing wrong, i would be very grateful :) Also, I am not used to having the choice of passing by reference, address, or value, and memory management in general (currently i have all my nodes and the data declared on the heap). Google Sites API - File Cabinets: Spaces and extension separator (.) are removed from file names

We have a series of internal reports that we update regularly from our internal databases. We built an application in C# that uploads these reports to a Google Site. Everything works fine, except that the name of the file shown to the final user in the File Cabinet does not include the original spaces nor the extension separator (.) "Add another item" form functionality

I have a form that lets a user enter their career history - it's a very simple form with only 3 fields - type (dropdown), details (textfield) and year (dropdown). Basically I want to include some dynamic functionality whereby the user can enter multiple items on the same page and then submit them all in one go. I had a search on Google and found some examples but they were all based on tables - my markup is based on DIV tags: <div class="form-fields"> <div class="row"> <label for="type">Type</label> <select id="type" name="type"> <option value="Work">Work</option> </select> </div> <div class="row"> <label for="details">Details</label> <input id="details" type="text" name="details" /> </div> <div class="row"> <label for="year">Year</label> <select id="year" name="year"> <option value="2010">2010</option> </select> </div> </div> So basically the 3 DIV tags with class "row" need to be duplicated, or to simplify things - the div "form-fields" could just be duplicated. I am also aware that the input names would have to converted to array format. Additionally each item will require a "remove" button. There will be a main submit button at the bottom which submits all the data. Anyone got an elegant solution for this?

Paypal Sandbox 2014 Non US test account Sign Up proper link

Ok I had a Paypal Sandbox account a year ago. I am developing a new site for a client and when I try to Login it won't recognize my email address. I tried forgot my password forgot password still nothing. So I guessed that maybe due to inactivity for such a long time they may have deleted my account. So then I try to Sign Up for a new one. I entered my details 3 times now and spent 6 hours trying to figure out what is the proper link to do this. Then I went to another Sandbox link which required me to entered a US Zip code and its a dead end. I am not even sure which Paypal account I signed up for those three times. No email nothing at all. I am a Non US developer and the FAQ link for Non US developers just points to their REST API. Can someone please guide me to the proper Paypal Sandbox Setup for Non US developers including the proper sign up links please. And I know Stackoverflow does not like rants but from my experience dealing with Paypal, GTA 6 should make a satirical Paypal company in their next Game with Paypal Developer Rampage mode for the main protagonist who also happens to be a Developer. EDIT: REST API does not include UK :(

But I got error like cc: argument to '-o' is missing What's the problem? If I use make, then I still got error No targets specified and no makefiles found. Finally, if the above problem is fixed, how could I define a custom hotkey for compile? I have already know how to do something like global-set-key [f8] 'goto-line But I don't know to set a hotkey for an action only for c-mode.

Data Structure / Hash Function to link Sets of Ints to Value

Given n integer id's, I wish to link all possible sets of up to k id's to a constant value. What I'm looking for is a way to translate sets (e.g. {1, 5}, {1, 3, 5} and {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7}) to unique values. Guarantees: n < 100 and k < 10 (again: set sizes will range in [1, k]). The order of id's doesn't matter: {1, 5} == {5, 1}. All combinations are possible, but some may be excluded. All sets and values are constant and made only once. No deletes or inserts, no value updates. Once generated, the only operations taking place will be look-ups. Look-ups will be frequent and one-directional (given set, look up value). There is no need to sort (or otherwise organize) the values. Additionally, it would be nice (but not obligatory) if "neighboring" sets (drop one id, add one id, swap one id, etc) are easy to reach, as well as "all sets that include at least this set". Any ideas?

Excel: Automating the Selection of an Unknown Number of Cells

I’m trying to automate the formatting of an excel file by a macro and am seeking a solution. I have two columns titled Last Name and First Name which I would like to concatenate into a separate column titled Last Name, First Name. This is simple enough when done by hand: create one cell which does this, then drag that cell to include all cells within the range. The problem appears when trying to automate this. Because I can’t know the number of names that need to be concatenated ahead of time, I can’t automate the selection of cells by dragging. Can you help me automate this? I’ve tried a process of copying the initial concatenated cell, highlighting the column, and then pasting. I’ve also tried to use a formula which returned the concatenation only if there is text in the “Last Name” and “First Name” columns. However, in both cases, I end up with some 100,000 rows, putting a serious cramp on my ability to manipulate the worksheet. The best solution I can think of is to create concatenations within a fixed range of cells. Although this would create useless cells, at least there wouldn’t be 99,900 of them.

How can I use SQL Server's full text search across multiple rows at once?

I'm trying to improve the search functionality on my web forums. I've got a table of posts, and each post has (among other less interesting things): PostID, a unique ID for the individual post. ThreadID, an ID of the thread the post belongs to. There can be any number of posts per thread. Text, because a forum would be really boring without it. I want to write an efficient query that will search the threads in the forum for a series of words, and it should return a hit for any ThreadID for which there are posts that include all of the search words. For example, let's say that thread 9 has post 1001 with the word "cat" in it, and also post 1027 with the word "hat" in it. I want a search for cat hat to return a hit for thread 9. This seems like a straightforward requirement, but I don't know of an efficient way to do it. Using the regular FREETEXT and CONTAINS capabilities for N'cat AND hat' won't return any hits in the above example because the words exist in different posts, even though those posts are in the same thread. (As far as I can tell, when using CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX I have to give it my index on the primary key PostID, and can't tell it to index all posts with the same ThreadID together.) The solution that I currently have in place works, but sucks: maintain a separate table that contains the entire concatenated post text of every thread, and make a full text index on THAT. I'm looking for a solution that doesn't require me to keep a duplicate copy of the entire text of every thread in my forums. Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

The previous developer incorporated a head.inc file which loads up prototype, scriptaculous and then many of the pages are in a sub-template loading up jquery for functions like lightbox. Can anyone tell me why the session cant pass values from verify.php to /memberarea/index.php

jQuery - Show id, based on selected items class?

I have a layout roughly as follows: <div id="foo">  </div> <div id="thumbnails"> <div class="thumb-content1"></div> <div class="thumb-content2"></div> <div class="thumb-content3"></div> </div> <div id="content-1">  </div> <div id="content-2">  </div> <div id="content-3">  </div> etc .... On page load I want to show 'foo' and 'thumbnails' and hide the three content divs. As the user clicks each thumbnail, I want to hide foo, and replace it with the matching 'content-x'. I can get my head round jQuery show, hide and replace (although, bonus points if you want to include that in your example!). But how would I extract and construct the appropriate content id, from the thumbnail class, then pass it to the show hide code?

Creating a assertClass() method in JUnit

Hi, I'm creating a test platform for a protocol project based on Apache MINA. In MINA when you receive packets the messageReceived() method gets an Object. Ideally I'd like to use a JUnit method assertClass(), however it doesn't exist. I'm playing around trying to work out what is the closest I can get. I'm trying to find something similar to instanceof. Currently I have: public void assertClass(String msg, Class expected, Object given) { if(!expected.isInstance(given)) Assert.fail(msg); } To call this: assertClass("Packet type is correct", SomePacket.class, receivedPacket); This works without issue, however in experimenting and playing with this my interest was peaked by the instanceof operator. if (receivedPacket instanceof SomePacket) { .. } How is instanceof able to use SomePacket to reference the object at hand? It's not an instance of an object, its not a class, what is it?! Once establishing what type SomePacket is at that point is it possible to extend my assertClass() to not have to include the SomePacket.class argument, instead favouring SomePacket?

SQL Server 2008 - Update a temporary table

Hello, I have stored procedure in which I am trying to retrieve the last ticket completed by each user listed in a comma-delimited string of usernames. The user may not have a ticket associated with them, in this case I know that i just need to return null. The two tables that I am working with are defined as follows: User ---- UserName, FirstName, LastName Ticket ------ ID, CompletionDateTime, AssignedTo, AssignmentDate, StatusID TicketStatus ------------ ID, Comments I have created a stored procedure in which I am trying to return the last completed ticket for a comma-delimited list of usernames. Each record needs to include the comments associated with it. Currently, I'm trying the following: CREATE TABLE #Tickets ( [UserName] nvarchar(256), [FirstName] nvarchar(256), [LastName] nvarchar(256), [TicketID] int, [DateCompleted] datetime, [Comments] text ) -- This variable is actually passed into the procedure DECLARE @userList NVARCHAR(max) SET @userList='user1,user2,user2' -- Obtain the user information for each user INSERT INTO #Tickets ( [UserName], [FirstName], [LastName] ) SELECT u.[UserName], u.[FirstName], u.[LastName] FROM User u INNER JOIN dbo.ConvertCsvToTable(@userList) l ON u.UserName=l.item At this point, I have the username, first and last name for each user passed in. However, I do not know how to actually get the last ticket completed for each of these users. How do I do this? I believe I should be updating the temp table I have created. C++ const-reference semantics?

My suggestion: Never return a reference to a member variable if it can be set by reference through a member function. Hence, either return by value or pass parameters by value. (Modern compilers will optimize away the extra copy anyway.)

The example below may not be problematic as is, but it should be enough to illustrate a point. Imagine that there is a lot more work than trimming going on. public string Thingy { set { // I guess we can throw a null reference exception here on null. value = value.Trim(); // Well, imagine that there is so much processing to do this.thingy = value; // That this.thingy = value.Trim() would not fit on one line ... So, if the assignment has to take two lines, then I either have to abusereuse the parameter, or create a temporary variable. I am not a big fan of temporary variables. On the other hand, I am not a fan of convoluted code. I did not include an example where a function is involved, but I am sure you can imagine it. One concern I have is if a function accepted a string and the parameter was "abused", and then someone changed the signature to ref in both places - this ought to mess things up, but ... who would knowingly make such a change if it already worked without a ref? Seems like it is their responsibility in this case. If I mess with the value of value, am I doing something non-trivial under the hood? If you think that both approaches are acceptable, then which do you prefer and why? Thanks.

Looking for an email/report templating engine with database backend - for end-users ...

We have a number of customers that we have to send monthly invoices too. Right now, I'm managing a codebase that does SQL queries against our customer database and billing database and places that data into emails - and sends it. I grow weary of maintaining this every time we want to include a new promotion or change our customer service phone numbers. So, I'm looking for a replacement to move more of this into the hands of those requesting the changes. In my ideal world, I need : A WYSIWYG (man, does anyone even say that anymore?) email editor that generates templates based upon the output from a Database Query. The ability to drag and drop various fields from the database query into the email template. Display of sample email results with the database query. Web application, preferably not requiring IIS. Involve as little code as possible for the end-user, but allow basic functionality (i.e. arrays/for loops) Either comes with it's own email delivery engine, or writes output in a way that I can easily write a Python script to deliver the email. Support for generic Database Connectors. (I need MSSQL and MySQL) F/OSS So ... can anyone suggest a project like this, or some tools that'd be useful for rolling my own? (My current alternative idea is using something like ERB or Tenjin, having them write the code, but not having live-preview for the editor would suck...)

Please try refreshing." } } } }; e.open("GET", c, true); e.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); e.send(null) } Like you might have guessed, the way it issues queries inside the page with queries like this: run('page.php',loadingText,'ajax-test', 'LoadSamples()'); I must admit that this is the first time I've seen a page from which I could not figure how things are being done. I have a few questions: Is this Server-Side Ajax or something similar? If not, can someone clarify what exactly is this? Why does one use this? Is it for hiding the design details? (which are otherwise revealed in plain text by javascript) How difficult would it be to convert my existing application into this design pattern? (maybe a subjective question but any short suggestion will do) Any suggestions?

jQuery function unresponsive after changing html

But after the html of #tab_change changed, the back button is responsive. The $(".back").click(function() { doesnt work.
