    I am an ASP.NET developer and I really dont do such of database stuff. But for my open source project on Codeplex I am required to setup a database schema for the project. So reading from here and there I have managed to do the following. As being new to database schema designing, I wanted some one else who has a better idea on this topic to help me identify any issues with this design. Most of the relationships are self explanatory I think, but still I will jot each one down.   • Adding AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute To Paypal ASP.NET SDK

    Currently, I cannot use Paypal Pro on my host (GoDaddy) because it requires Full trust level. After digging in Google, it seems a workaround is possible by adding AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute to the Paypal assembly. I have seen code samples that use AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute in their AssemblyInfo.cs file, however, I've yet to run into a code example that also happens to be using PayPal. My question is where should the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute be added in my project if my objective is to make the PayPal assembly work? I have tried adding it to my AssemblyInfo.cs for the project that contains the entire website, but I have not been successful. At this point, any insight or shot in the dark would be greatly appreciated. Even if someone could point me in the general direction of some documentation I would be grateful.   • Using Thor for generators in a Ruby Gem

    How do I setup a Gem to have a binary command eg. "project newProject" that uses Thor's set of generator commands to create files etc.? A good answer would describe how to layout the skeleton of a gem that that when run from the command line "project newProject" creates 1 file named "newProject.txt" in the directory it's run from. I've seen that Rails 3 is using Thor to power it's generators, seems like a really good solution and i'd like to use a similar approach in non-Rails ruby gem i'm working on. Tried looking at the Rails 3 source but it's a bit labyrinthine hence the question.

  • Can I use a serial port as TCP/IP interface on Red Hat Linux?

    Background We want to run an FTP server on a Red Hat Enterprise OS. The problem is, the machine we have does not have an Ethernet port/interface (please don't ask why; it's just a project requirement). We only have a serial port. Question Is there COTS / open source software that I can use to make serial port "look" like a an Ethernet port? My project is commercial. We run Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3. Note: Pardon me if my post title is unclear. If you can think of a better title, please suggest or simply change the title.

  • Using clojure.contrib functions in slime REPL

    I want to use the functions in the clojure.contrib.trace namespace in slime at the REPL. How can I get slime to load them automatically? A related question, how can I add a specific namespace into a running repl? On the clojure.contrib API it describes usage like this: (ns my-namespace (:require clojure.contrib.trace)) But adding this to my code results in the file being unable to load with an "Unable to resolve symbol" error for any function from the trace package. I use leiningen 'lein swank' to start the ServerSocket and the project.clj file looks like this (defproject test-project "0.1.0" :description "Connect 4 Agent written in Clojure" :dependencies [[org.clojure/clojure "1.2.0-master-SNAPSHOT"] [org.clojure/clojure-contrib "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"]] :dev-dependencies [[leiningen/lein-swank "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"] [swank-clojure "1.2.0"]]) Everything seems up to date, i.e. 'lein deps' doesn't produce any changes. So what's up?

  • XCode Syntax Coloring Broken

    XCode frequently seems to lose it's mind, and doesn't color code system classes or provide correct "code sense" suggestions. This is endlessly frustrating. The question has been asked on at least three other occasions: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2263994/problems-with-xcode-syntax-highlighting http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1627033/xcode-code-sense-color-completion-not-working http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2138047/xcode-code-loses-syntax-coloring I have switched by project version to/from 3.1-compatiable and 3.2-compatiable, completely restarting XCode before and after each change with no effect. I have rebuilt the code sense indexes and completely restarted XCode with no change. I have built my project to make sure there are no errors and restarted. I have copied my files (sans .svn files) to a different location - same problem. I've already completely disabled the argument "placeholders" because they screw up my documents when i type too fast... all I'm asking for is for the "esc" key to display the correct list of properties and methods.

  • How to build Lucene / Solr from source code in windows environment in order to add patches

    I have successfully implemented Apache’s Solr for free text searching a database driven web site build for windows platforms using Visual Studio in c#. I am trying to get a version Solr working with field collapsing (which is not in the release version). There are patches available from apache and discussions on the web of people successfully doing this for the version I am using but my problem is cannot get the build to work. I am a c# coder on windows platforms so java development is new to me. I understand I need to get the correct source code (and revision) from SVN, add the appropriate patches, then build the war file to deploy to my system. I cannot seem to get the source to build and produce the deployment code including jar (and subsequent war) files. My system is: Windows 7 Ultimate for development Visual Studio 2010 for c# / javascript development MyEclipse 8.6 / Eclipse 3.5 for the java build from source Subecplise 1.6x SVN plugin to get the source from apache’s SVN Apache Solr 1.4.1 So far I have: Found the right patches for the function I need: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-236 Specifically I need to patch: field_collapsing_1.1.0.patch HTTPS //issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12357681/field_collapsing_1.1.0.patch and SOLR-236-1_4_1.patch HTTPS //issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12448216/SOLR-236-1_4_1.patch I downloaded the Lucene trunk version from the day before the patch was released (revision 958303 from 28/6/10) via subeclipse into a java package in myeclipse from: HTTPS //svn.apache.org/repos/asf/lucene/dev/trunk (Solr is the web implementation of Lucene and is in the subfolder solr/) I can apply patches to the solr directory once it has downloaded but the parent Lucene project doesn’t build the war files, copy the jar or other files into the bin folder (it stays empty). The build process starts, but doesn’t do anything apart from creating the folders bin and src. I am building the whole Lucene project, which contains Solr. I have tried building the source without patching and the same happens. If I copy out the Solr directory into a new project, it runs the build and copies all the related files, tests, etc but fails with 4,500 errors and does not produce the jar files or war file, which I assume is because it can’t find the Lucene trunk files which it depends on. I have two interrelated problems 1) I can't get the Lucene downloaded trunk to build 2) The jar, war and associated files are not created Can anyone help with what I am missing to build the war file? I have spent 2 days to get this far as the help online is extremely patchy and I can’t find a walk though tutorial on building a java war file from source in a windows environment.   • Why does running rake gems:unpack result in a Gem::FilePermissionError

    I'm attempting to upgrade the friendly_id gem in a rails project. I have removed the old gem from the vendor directory, installed the new gem from rubygems.org. When I type: rake gems:unpack I get the following response: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 directory. Sure, I realise I can sudo it, but what I don't understand is if I would like to unpack the gem into my project vender directory, why does it need access to /usr/lib/ruby/gems....

  • Using TFSBuild to publish ClickOnce files that include prerequisites

    I have declared an MSBuild tag in my TFSBuild project in order to publish ClickOnce files for my project. WSE 3.0 and .Net 3.0 are both pre-requisites for the application, so in Visual Studio I have ticked those as pre-requisites. When I build from Visual Studio, it creates a setup.exe file that I can publish to my web site. When you browse to this setup.exe file it installs WSE3.0 and .Net 3.0 and then continues to install my application, which works well. If I get TFS to create the click once files using the MSBuild tag in the TFSBuild file, it creates the setup.exe file, which I can publish to my website in the same way (along with all the other ClickOnce files). When I browse to setup.exe now, however, the prerequisites don't get installed and therefore my program does not run. Does anyone know how to get TFS to build a correct setup.exe file that properly bootstraps my prerequisites?

    Hi, I'm currently working on a Datawarehouse project using an Oracle Database, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Warehouse Builder and some Jython thrown in for good measure. All of which is held within TFS. My background is .net and prior to this project was seeing a lot of promise in CI. I'm not suggesting that the testing element of CI is feasible in this instance, but I would like to implement a stable deployment strategy. What I'm trying to understand is whether or not I can build some NANT scripts that will allow me to deploy ODI\OWB\Oracle DB code to any given environment at any point. Has anyone tried this before? Are there more appropriate tools out there that lends themselves better to this sort of toolset? Am I just a crazy horse to be evening contemplating this? Any view would be greatly appreciated.   • Is it possible to build a JPA entity by extending a POJO?

    Lets say I have the following POJO: public class MyThing { private int myNumber; private String myData; //assume getter/setter methods } Is it now possible to extend this POJO as a JPA entity? @Entity @Table(name = "my_thing") public class MyThingEntity extends MyThing implements Serializable { @Column(name = "my_number") //????????? @Column(name = "my_data") //???????? } I want to keep the POJO separate from the JPA entity. The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

  • ActiveRecord fundamentally incompatible with composite keys?

    I have been attempting to use subsonic for a project on which I'm working. All was going quite well until I encountered a link table with a composite primary key. That is a key made up of the primary keys of the two tables it joins. Subsonic failed to recognize both keys which was problematic. I was going to adjust subsonic to support compound keys but I stopped and though "Maybe there is a reason for this". Normally active record relies on a single primary key field for every record, even in link tables. But is this necessary? Should I just give up on active record for this project or continue with my modifications?

I have project (2 tier asp.net app) with that i need to run windowservice or exe which will do some functionality every day (like fetch data) so my confusions are as below Regarding Azure website Can i access RDP if i'll move to reserved instance? can i run windowservice/exe ? Regarding Virtual Machine Is it same as dedicated server? can i use WASD as database from application reside in same? I think i can run any exe and installed anything however azure is going to recycle this and if yes then what happened on recycling? can i use new window server 2012 (VHD) in that? Azure website & VM both are in preview mode so is it reliable to use it as production version?

  • How to tell Eclipse 3.4 WTP to not restart tomcat on JSP save?

    Whenever I save a JSP file in my WTP project, Eclipse restarts its Tomcat instance. This is sorta driving me nuts. I don't want to disable auto reload completely, I just don't want it to happen when I save a file that doesn't require a restart. I'm not sure how Eclipse WTP works in this regard. Could it be my project structure? The JSP files are in WEB-INF/jsp. (this SO question is similar to mine, but doesn't have a sufficient answer) EDIT: I want auto-reloading to happen, but not for file saves that do not require it. When I save a JSP there is no reason to have Tomcat restart. Thus what I'm looking for, if possible, is a smarter way for reloading to happen.

    I have 2 independent but contiguous date ranges. The first range is the start and end date for a project. Lets say start = 3/21/10 and end = 5/16/10. The second range is a month boundary (say 3/1/10 to 3/31/10, 4/1/10 to 4/30/10, etc.) I need to figure out how many days in each month fall into the first range. The answer to my example above is March = 10, April = 30, May = 16. I am trying to figure out an excel formula or VBA function that will give me this value. Any thoughts on an algorithm for this? I feel it should be rather easy but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a formula which will return TRUE/FALSE if ANY part of the month range is within the project start/end but not the number of days. That function is below. return month_start <= project_end And month_end >= project_start

    How do you add a JAR file to an already existing Java library in Eclipse? Note that this is not a user library. That is, if you look at the Java Build Path for a Java project and click on the Libraries tab, you will see the list of libraries used by the project. If you expand a given library, you will see a list of JAR files included in that library. I want to add an additional JAR file to one of these libraries. I am using Version 3.4.0 of Eclipse.

  • Reliable portability for C code without relying on the preprocessor

    Relying on the preprocessor and predefined compiler macros for achieving portability seems hard to manage. What's a better way to achieve portability for a C project? I want to put environment-specific code in headers that behave the same way. Is there a way to have the build environment choose which headers to include? I was thinking that I'd put the environment-specific headers into directories for specific environments. The build environment would then just copy the headers from the platform's directory into the root directory, build the project, and then remove the copies.

  • How does the workflow between testers doing testing and coders doing the coding for pending testing

    In a large company that does software development, they often have dedicated teams for build management, testing, development, and so forth. Agile or not, how does this workflow amongst teams work? I mean would the test team write unit tests and then the dev team write code to adhere to these tests (basically TDD)? And then the test team may write tests for a completely different project or have a slight quiet period until the dev team have done their coding. What possible workflows are there? This is something that interests me greatly. I know that in my current company we are doing it incorrectly (we have 1 tester about 5 devs, which is small scale) but I am not sure how exactly to draw out the ideal workflow. Many (ok, an ex-Project Manager) have tried, but all failed.

Details: - os - free edition of oracle enterprise linux 5 - Apache / mod_wsgi - python - custom python2.6 installation - oracle db with cx_Oracle What is the simplest way to set it up? Would you recommend creating a system user for the django project and use daemon mode? What type of user and what privileges does it need? Can I set ORACLE_HOME, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH for this user? Would you use a virtualenv for cx_Oracle? Can I somehow put the python2.6 inside the virtualenv so it will portable to other servers? Thanks

    I want my connection to the database to be available all the time, so if i move the folder with the project, to an other computer, the connection to be made automaticaly. So, how can i change this connection: this.oleDbConnection1.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\"C:\\Documents and Settings\\Cristi\\Do" + "cuments\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\WindowsApplication3\\bd1.mdb\""; ???
