  • Java AtomicInteger: what are the differences between compareAndSet and weakCompareAndSet?

    - by WizardOfOdds
(note that this question is not about CAS, it's about the "May fail spuriously" Javadoc). The only difference in the Javadoc between these two methods from the AtomicInteger class is that the weakCompareAndSet contains the comment: "May fail spuriously". Now unless my eyes are cheated by some spell, both method do look to be doing exactly the same: public final boolean compareAndSet(int expect, int update) { return unsafe.compareAndSwapInt(this, valueOffset, expect, update); } /* ... * May fail spuriously. */ public final boolean weakCompareAndSet(int expect, int update) { return unsafe.compareAndSwapInt(this, valueOffset, expect, update); } So I realize that "May" doesn't mean "Must" but then why don't we all start adding this to our codebase: public void doIt() { a(); } /** * May fail spuriously */ public void weakDoIt() { a(); } I'm really confused with that weakCompareAndSet() that appears to do the same as the compareAndSet() yet that "may fail spuriously" while the other can't. Apparently the "weak" and the "spurious fail" are in a way related to "happens-before" ordering but I'm still very confused by these two AtomicInteger (and AtomicLong etc.) methods: because apparently they call exactly the same unsafe.compareAndSwapInt method. I'm particularly confused in that AtomicInteger got introduced in Java 1.5, so after the Java Memory Model change (so it is obviously not something that could "fail spuriously in 1.4" but whose behavior changed to "shall not fail spuriously in 1.5").

  • C#, sometimes I could flush down my boss the toilet [closed]

    - by msfanboy
Hello all, I got a paper of instructions from my boss. One of the instructions is in this order: Extend the method GetProductIdBy with theShipmentDate Overload the method GetProductIdBy without theShipmentDate This is the Method I speak about: ...and theShipmentDate is a DateTime variable public IProduct GetProductIdBy(string productID) { ... return product; } You know what I did? this - public IProduct GetProductIdBy(string productID, DateTime theShipmentDate ) { ... return product; } You know what my boss said? The above is wrong! I asked him how can I overload a method without a parameter like theShipmentDate ??? That makes no sense, he said that reason in because of the subversion repository... what the fuck?? But he did not tell me whats really right I would have to find out for myself... he just didnt tell me and I am sick of asking him every crap if he cant express himself properly. How would you manage his instruction?

  • Best practices for class-mapping with SoapClient

    - by Foofy
Using SoapClient's class mapping feature and it's pretty sweet. Unfortunately the SOAP service we're using has a bunch of read-only properties on some of the objects and will throw faults if the properties are passed back as anything but null. Need to filter out the properties before they're used in the SOAP call and am looking for advice on the best way to do it. So far the options are: Stick to a convention where I use getter and setter functions to manipulate the properties, and use property overloading to filter method access since only SoapClient would be doing that. E.g. developers would access properties like this: $obj->getAccountNumber() SoapClient would access properties like this: $obj->accountNumber I don't like this because the properties are still exposed and things could go wrong if developers don't stick to convention. Have a wrapper for SoapClient that sets a public property the mapped objects can check to see if the property is being accessed by SoapClient. I already have a wrapper that assigns a reference to itself to all the mapped objects. class SoapClientWrapper { public function __soapCall($method, $args) { $this->setSoapMode(true); $this->_soapClient->__soapCall($method, $args); $this->setSoapMode(false); } } class Invoice { function __get($val) { if($this->_soapClient->getSoapMode()) { return null; } else { return $this->$val; } } } This works but it doesn't feel right and seems a bit clunky. Do the mapping manually, and don't use SoapClient's mapping features. I'd just have a function on all the mapped objects that returns the safe-to-send properties. Also, nobody would have access to properties they shouldn't since I could enforce getters and setters. A lot more work, though.

  • function getting wrong values

    - by frankie
so i have this function in C to calculate a power, and i'm using visual c++ 2010 power.h void power(); float get_power(float a, int n); power.c void power() { float a, r; int n; printf("-POWER-\n"); printf("The base: "); scanf("%f", &a); n = -1; while (n < 0) { printf("The power: "); scanf("%d", &n); if (n < 0) { printf("Power must be equal or larger than 0!\n"); } else { r = get_power(a, n); printf("%.2f ^ %d = %.2f", a, n, r); } }; } float get_power(float a, int n) { if (n == 0) { return 1; } return a * get_power(a, n-1); } not the best way to do it, i know, but that's not it when i debug it the values are scanned correctly (that is, the values are correct until just before the function call) but then upon entering the function a becomes 0 and n becomes 1074790400, and you can guess what happens next... the first function is being called from the main file, i included the full code because i really have no idea what could be going on, and i can't even think on how to google for it... strangely, i wrote the function in a single file and it works fine, but it definitely should work both ways any idea why this is happening?

  • Serializing Complex ViewModel with Json.Net Destabilization Error on Latest Version

    - by dreadlocks1221
I just added the latest Version of JSON.Net and I get the System.Security.VerificationException: Operation could destabilize the runtime error when trying to use a controller (while running the application). I read in other posts that this issue should have been fixed in release 6 but I still have the problem. I even added *Newtonsoft.* to the ignore modules in the intellitrace options, which seems to have suppressed the error, but the post will just run forever and not return anything. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. • WPF - Getting the value of one a DataGridCell from within DataTemplateSelector

    - by Andy T
Hi, I'm using DataTemplateSelector with the WPFToolkit DataGrid. I want to select the editing template for one cell based on the value of another cell on the same row. The DataTemplateSelector's SelectTemplate method takes two arguments: one is the data item displayed by the grid row, the other is the grid cell. What I want to know is how to get the value of another cell from within the SelectTemplate method. However, I'm not sure of the correct way to get this information by accessing properties of the cell. public class RangeValuesEditTemplateSelector : DataTemplateSelector { public DataTemplate NumberTemplate{get; set;} public DataTemplate TextTemplate{get; set;} public override DataTemplate SelectTemplate(object item, DependencyObject container) { //TODO: need to find the correct way to populate the if condition below DataGridCell theCell = container as DataGridCell; if (theCell.something.somethingElse) { return NumberTemplate; }else{ return TextTemplate; } } } Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance. AT

  • Querying a self referencing join with NHibernate Linq

    - by Ben
In my application I have a Category domain object. Category has a property Parent (of type category). So in my NHibernate mapping I have: <many-to-one name="Parent" column="ParentID"/> Before I switched to NHibernate I had the ParentId property on my domain model (mapped to the corresponding database column). This made it easy to query for say all top level categories (ParentID = 0): where(c => c.ParentId == 0) However, I have since removed the ParentId property from my domain model (because of NHibernate) so I now have to do the same query (using NHibernate.Linq) like so: public IList<Category> GetCategories(int parentId) { if (parentId == 0) return _catalogRepository.Categories.Where(x => x.Parent == null).ToList(); else return _catalogRepository.Categories.Where(x => x.Parent.Id == parentId).ToList(); } The real impact that I can see, is the sql generated. Instead of a simple 'select x,y,z from categories where parentid = 0' NHibernate generates a left outer join: SELECT this_.CategoryId as CategoryId4_1_, this_.ParentID as ParentID4_1_, this_.Name as Name4_1_, this_.Slug as Slug4_1_, parent1_.CategoryId as CategoryId4_0_, parent1_.ParentID as ParentID4_0_, parent1_.Name as Name4_0_, parent1_.Slug as Slug4_0_ FROM Categories this_ left outer join Categories parent1_ on this_.ParentID = parent1_.CategoryId WHERE this_.ParentID is null Which doesn't seems much less efficient that what I had before. Is there a better way of querying these self referencing joins as it's very tempting to drop the ParentID back onto my domain model for this reason. Thanks, Ben

  • iText PDFReader Extremely Slow To Open

    - by Wbmstrmjb
I have some code that combines a few pages of acro forms (with acrofields in tact) and then at the end writes some JS to the entire document. It is the PdfReader in the function adding the JS that is taking extremely long to instantiate (about 12 seconds for a 1MB file). Here is the code (pretty simple): public static byte[] AddJavascript(byte[] document, string js) { PdfReader reader = new PdfReader(new RandomAccessFileOrArray(document), null); MemoryStream msOutput = new MemoryStream(); PdfStamper stamper = new PdfStamper(reader, msOutput); PdfWriter writer = stamper.Writer; writer.AddJavaScript(js); stamper.Close(); reader.Close(); byte[] withJS = msOutput.GetBuffer(); return withJS; } I have benchmarked the above and the line that is slow is the first one. I have tried reading it from a file instead of memory and tried using a MemoryStream instead of the RandomAccessFileOrArray. Nothing makes it any faster. If I add JS to a single page document, it is very fast. So my thought is that the code that combines the pages is somehow making the PDF slow to read for the PdfReader. Here is the combine code: public static byte[] CombineFiles(List<byte[]> sourceFiles) { MemoryStream output = new MemoryStream(); PdfCopyFields copier = new PdfCopyFields(output); try { output.Position = 0; foreach (var fileBytes in sourceFiles) { PdfReader fileReader = new PdfReader(fileBytes); copier.AddDocument(fileReader); } } catch (Exception exception) { //throw } finally { copier.Close(); } byte[] concat = output.GetBuffer(); return concat; } I am using PdfCopyFields because I need to preserve the form fields and so cannot use the PdfCopy or PdfSmartCopy. This combine code is very fast (few ms) and produces working documents. The AddJS code above is called after it and the PdfReader open is the slow piece. Any ideas?

  • Javascript "Member not found" error in IE8

    - by Steven
    I'm trying to debug the following block of Javascript code to see what the issue is. I'm getting an error that says "Member not found" on the line constructor = function() { in the extend:function() method. I'm not very good with Javascript, and I didn't write this, so I'm kind of lost on what the issue is. The error only occurs in IE8, it works fine in IE7 and Firefox. var Class = { create: function() { return function() { if(this.destroy) Class.registerForDestruction(this); if(this.initialize) this.initialize.apply(this, arguments); } }, extend: function(baseClassName) { constructor = function() { var i; this[baseClassName] = {} for(i in window[baseClassName].prototype) { if(!this[i]) this[i] = window[baseClassName].prototype[i]; if(typeof window[baseClassName].prototype[i] == 'function') { this[baseClassName][i] = window[baseClassName].prototype[i].bind(this); } } if(window[baseClassName].getInheritedStuff) { window[baseClassName].getInheritedStuff.apply(this); } if(this.destroy) Class.registerForDestruction(this); if(this.initialize) this.initialize.apply(this, arguments); } constructor.getInheritedStuff = function() { this[baseClassName] = {} for(i in window[baseClassName].prototype) { if(!this[i]) this[i] = window[baseClassName].prototype[i]; if(typeof window[baseClassName].prototype[i] == 'function') { this[baseClassName][i] = window[baseClassName].prototype[i].bind(this); } } if(window[baseClassName].getInheritedStuff) { window[baseClassName].getInheritedStuff.apply(this); } } return constructor; }, objectsToDestroy : [], registerForDestruction: function(obj) { if(!Class.addedDestructionLoader) { Event.observe(window, 'unload', Class.destroyAllObjects); Class.addedDestructionLoader = true; } Class.objectsToDestroy.push(obj); }, destroyAllObjects: function() { var i,item; for(i=0;item=Class.objectsToDestroy[i];i++) { if(item.destroy) item.destroy(); } Class.objectsToDestroy = null; } }

  • Matlab crashes on library initialize when called from Java

    - by David Sauter
Hello everyone. The setup I have is I'm using a Java application to call native C-code with JNI, which in turn starts up the MATLAB runtime and calls functions on it (I know there are other solutions to call MATLAB methods from Java). The problem is that the MATLAB engine crashes at some point during the initialization and I don't know what's causing it exactly. The crash causes my jvm to terminate, I assume it's some kind of memory corruption. The C++ code calling MATLAB functions that is actually crashing is JNIEXPORT void JNICALL some_jni_vodoo_initializeLibrary(JNIEnv* env, jclass thisClass) { try { if (!mclInitializeApplication(NULL, 0)) { THROW_EXCEPTION(env, "Could not initialize the application properly."); return; } if (!<library>Initialize()) { THROW_EXCEPTION(env, "Could not initialize the library."); return; } } ... The function <library>Initialize() crashes here, the Java error log reads Stack Trace: [0] jmi.dll:0x793f4175(0x7934cdca, 1, 0x7937e67c "à;.y`[email protected] in C:\BUILD_ARE..", 0x792d6a32) [1] jvm.dll:0x792df9a5(0xc0000005, 0x79356791, 0x4961b400 "Ð\8y", 0x6d8b29de) [2] jvm.dll:0x792e0431(0x8b515008, 0x70f0e8ce, 0x8b5ffffa, 0xc25d5ec6) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fatal Java Exception detected at Fri Apr 30 11:08:08 2010 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Configuration: MATLAB Version: 7.8.0.347 (R2009a) MATLAB License: unknown Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Window System: Version 6.0 (Build 6002: Service Pack 2) Processor ID: x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 5, GenuineIntel Virtual Machine: Java is not enabled Default Encoding: windows-1252 Java is not enabled I really have no idea what could be wrong. • Localizing DataAnnotations Custom Validation Attribute

    - by Gabe G
Hello SO, I'm currently working in an MVC 2 app which has to have everything localized in n-languages (currently 2, none of them english btw). I validate my model classes with DataAnnotations but when I wanted to validate a DateTime field found out that the DataTypeAttribute returns always true, no matter it was a valid date or not (that's because when I enter a random string "foo", the IsValid() method checks against "01/01/0001 ", dont know why). Decided to write my own validator extending ValidationAtribute class: public class DateTimeAttribute : ValidationAttribute { public override bool IsValid(object value) { DateTime result; if (value.ToString().Equals("01/01/0001 0:00:00")) { return false; } return DateTime.TryParse(value.ToString(), out result); } } Now it checks OK when is valid and when it's not, but my problem starts when I try to localize it: [Required(ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(MSG), ErrorMessageResourceName = "INS_DATA_Required")] [CustomValidation.DateTime(ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(MSG), ErrorMessageResourceName = "INS_DATA_DataType")] public DateTime INS_DATA { get; set; } If I put nothing in the field I get a localized MSG (MSG being my resource class) for the key=INS_DATA_Required but if I put a bad-formatted date I get the "The value 'foo' is not valid for INS_DATA" default message and not the localized MSG. What am I misssing?

  • objc_exception_throw When Returning NSManagedObject

    - by spamguy
I have a method dedicated to finding an NSManagedObject ('company') using a supplied NSString and, if it's not found, creating a new one and returning it. As far as I know it's fully inited and the method works perfectly. That is, until the line after the return statement, when the app crashes with an objc_exception_throw. I googled this and couldn't find what causes it, only how to use it in breakpoint debugging. What's wrong with this method, and why is it throwing specifically this exception? - (NSManagedObject*) getCompanyObject:(NSString*)theCompany { NSError *error = nil; NSManagedObjectContext *moc = [[self delegate] managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *fetch = [[[NSFetchRequest alloc] init] autorelease]; NSEntityDescription *entityDescription = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Company" inManagedObjectContext:moc]; [fetch setEntity:entityDescription]; // object to be returned NSManagedObject *companyObject = [[NSManagedObject alloc] initWithEntity:entityDescription insertIntoManagedObjectContext:moc]; // set predicate (company name) NSPredicate *pred = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"name = \"%@\"", theCompany]]; [fetch setPredicate:pred]; NSArray *response = [moc executeFetchRequest:fetch error:&error]; if ([response count] == 0) // empty resultset --> no companies with this name { [companyObject setValue:theCompany forKey:@"name"]; NSLog(@"%@ not found. When I try to use function setImage it fails with error HTTP::Message content must be bytes at /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/HTTP/Request/Common.pm line 91. Worse that I can't reproduce this error without using all of my code and upgrading libwww-perl does nothing. What can cause it?

  • jquery slide toggle divs without creating multiple classes, functions, etc... ui accordion

    - by SPE
Greetings, based on the jquery ui accordion I'm using, I have added a slide toggle to my accordion list items. so what happens is I click on an li and a div slides down underneath to reveal more content. The issue I'm having is that I find myself having to create multiple id's to reference the slidetoggle. example of the div id css: #panel, #panel2, #panel3, #panel4, etc.... the Is there a way I can use the slide toggle without having to adding another number so it will slide? I have 50 list items I'm using: Here's a sample of the js (as you can see where I'm going with this): $(".btn-slide").click(function(){ $("#panel").slideToggle("slow"); $(this).toggleClass("active"); return false; }); $(".btn-slide2").click(function(){ $("#panel2").slideToggle("slow"); $(this).toggleClass("active"); return false; }); sample html: <li><div class="slide"><a href="#" class="btn-slide">One</a></div><div id="panel"></div></li> <li><div class="slide"><a href="#" class="btn-slide2">Two</a></div><div id="panel2"></div></li>

  • ASP.NET Content Web Form - content from placeholder disappears

    - by Naeem Sarfraz
    I'm attempting to set a class on the body tag in my asp.net site which uses a master page and content web forms. I simply want to be able to do this by adding a bodycssclass property (see below) to the content web form page directive. It works through the solution below but when i attempt to view Default.aspx the Content1 control loses its content. Any ideas why? Here is how I'm doing it. I have a master page with the following content: <%@ Master Language="C#" ... %> <html><head>...</head> <body id=ctlBody runat=server> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="cphMain" runat="server" /> </body> </html> it's code behind looks like: public partial class Site : MasterPageBase { public override string BodyCssClass { get { return ctlBody.Attributes["class"]; } set { ctlBody.Attributes["class"] = value; } } } it inherits from: public abstract class MasterPageBase : MasterPage { public abstract string BodyCssClass { get; set; } } my default.aspx is defined as: <%@ Page Title="..." [master page definition etc..] bodycssclass="home" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphMain" runat="server"> Some content </asp:Content> the code behind for this file looks like: public partial class Default : PageBase { ... } and it inherits from : public class PageBase : Page { public string BodyCssClass { get { MasterPageBase mpbCurrent = this.Master as MasterPageBase; return mpbCurrent.BodyCssClass; } set { MasterPageBase mpbCurrent = this.Master as MasterPageBase; mpbCurrent.BodyCssClass = value; } } }

It's probably something simple i'm missing but any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

  • Help with understanding generic relations in Django (and usage in Admin)

    - by saturdayplace
I'm building a CMS for my company's website (I've looked at the existing Django solutions and want something that's much slimmer/simpler, and that handles our situation specifically.. Plus, I'd like to learn this stuff better). I'm having trouble wrapping my head around generic relations. I have a Page model, a SoftwareModule model, and some other models that define content on our website, each with their get_absolute_url() defined. I'd like for my users to be able to assign any Page instance a list of objects, of any type, including other page instances. This list will become that Page instance's sub-menu. I've tried the following: class Page(models.Model): body = models.TextField() links = generic.GenericRelation("LinkedItem") @models.permalink def get_absolute_url(self): # returns the right URL class LinkedItem(models.Model): content_type = models.ForeignKey(ContentType) object_id = models.PositiveIntegerField() content_object = generic.GenericForeignKey('content_type', 'object_id') title = models.CharField(max_length=100) def __unicode__(self): return self.title class SoftwareModule(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) description = models.TextField() def __unicode__(self): return self.name @models.permalink def get_absolute_url(self): # returns the right URL This gets me a generic relation with an API to do page_instance.links.all(). We're on our way. What I'm not sure how to pull off, is on the page instance's change form, how to create the relationship between that page, and any other extant object in the database. My desired end result: to render the following in a template: <ul> {% for link in page.links.all %} <li><a href='{{ link.content_object.get_absolute_url() }}'>{{ link.title }}</a></li> {% endfor%} </ul> Obviously, there's something I'm unaware of or mis-understanding, but I feel like I'm, treading into that area where I don't know what I don't know. What am I missing?

  • ASP.NET MVC - PartialView not refreshing

    - by Billy Logan
Hello Everyone, I have a view that uses a javascript callback to reload a partial view. For whatever reason the contents of the partial class do not refresh even though i can step through the entire process and see the page being recalled and populated. Any reason why the page would not display? Code is as follows: <div id="big_image_content"> <% Html.RenderPartial("ZoomImage", Model); %> </div> This link should reload the div above: <a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="$('#big_image_content').load('/ShopDetai/ZoomImage);" title="<%= shape.Shape %>" alt="<%= shape.Shape %>"> <img src="http://images.rugs-direct.com/<%= shape.Image.ToLower() %>" width="40" alt="<%= shape.Shape %>"> </a> partial view(ZoomImage.ascx) simplified for now, but still doesn't load: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<RugsDirect.Data.ItemDetailsModel>" %> <%= Model.Category.ToLower()%> And finally the controller side of things: public ActionResult ZoomImage() { try { ItemDetailsModel model = GetMainImageContentModel(); return PartialView("ZoomImage", model); } catch (Exception ex) { //send the error email ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(ex, "Exception Policy"); //redirect to the error page return RedirectToAction("ViewError", "Shop"); } } Again, i can step through this entire process and all seems to be working accept for the page not reloading. I can even break on the <%= Model.Category.ToLower()% of the partial view, but it will not be displayed. Thanks in advance, Billy
