  • chrome-like status bar in qt

    - by hasen j
I'm not big on creating GUI's, and generally my philosophy is: I don't create them, or I make them as simple as possible (and convince myself that it's better for usability :) For my current project, I'm using Qt from Python (PyQt), and I want to start adding some GUI elements without cluttering the interface. My idea is to create these elements as sort of floating-shaped-widgets that only appear when necessary; pretty much like the status bar (and find bar) in chrome. Is there any standard api that enables creating this kind of interface?

  • Which Hadoop API should I use?

    - by Niels Basjes
In the latest Hadoop Studio the 0.18 API of Hadoop is called "Stable" and the 0.20 API of Hadoop is called "Unstable". Now given the fact that we'll start coding a new Hadoop project in the next few weeks; which API should we use and which Hadoop distribution (Apache, Cloudera, Yahoo, ...) should we use? Thanks for your insights.

  • how to subtract circle from an arbitrary polygon

    - by George
Given an arbitary polygon with vertices stored in either clockwise/counterclockwise fashion (depicted as a black rectangle in the diagram), I need to be able to subtract an arbitrary number of circles (in red on the diagram) from that polygon. Removing a circle could possibly split the polygon into two seperate polygons (as depicted by the second line in the diagram). I'm not sure where to start. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?89a0276d9d.jpg

  • How to create an "endless" scrolling slideshow?

    - by Andrew
I know a good bit of JS and I'm familiar with jQuery, and I'm trying to create an "endless" slideshow (like the one on http://thisismedium.com/), where the images scroll -- one right behind the other -- and when it reaches the end it loops. I don't really know how to start, so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I created a slideshow before that automatically switched images and let you click Next and Previous, but I'm stuck here. =/.

  • Stumbleupon type query...

    - by Chris Denman
Wow, makes your head spin! I am about to start a project, and although my mySql is OK, I can't get my head around what required for this: I have a table of web addresses. id,url 1,http://www.url1.com 2,http://www.url2.com 3,http://www.url3.com 4,http://www.url4.com I have a table of users. id,name 1,fred bloggs 2,john bloggs 3,amy bloggs I have a table of categories. id,name 1,science 2,tech 3,adult 4,stackoverflow I have a table of categories the user likes as numerical ref relating to the category unique ref. For example: user, category 1,4 1,6 1,7 1,10 2,3 2,4 3,5 . . . I have a table of scores relating to each website address. When a user visits one of these sites and says they like it, it's stored like so: url_ref,category 4,2 4,3 4,6 4,2 4,3 5,2 5,3 . . . So based on the above data, URL 4 would score (in it's own right) as follows: 2=2 3=2 6=1 What I was hoping to do was pick out a random URL from over 2,000,000 records based on the current users interests. So if the logged in user likes categories 1,2,3 then I would like to ORDER BY a score generated based on their interest. If the logged in user likes categories 2 3 and 6 then the total score would be 5. However, if the current logged in user only like categories 2 and 6, the URL score would be 3. So the order by would be in context of the logged in users interests. Think of stumbleupon. I was thinking of using a set of VIEWS to help with sub queries. I'm guessing that all 2,000,000 records will need to be looked at and based on the id of the url it will look to see what scores it has based on each selected category of the current user. So we need to know the user ID and this gets passed into the query as a constant from the start. Ain't got a clue! Chris Denman

  • Dump Linq-To-Sql now that Entity Framework 4.0 has been released?

    - by DanM
The relative simplicity of Linq-To-Sql as well as all the criticism leveled at version 1 of Entity Framework (especially, the vote of no confidence) convinced me to go with Linq-To-Sql "for the time being". Now that EF 4.0 is out, I wonder if it's time to start migrating over to it. Questions: What are the pros and cons of EF 4.0 relative to Linq-To-Sql? Is EF 4.0 finally ready for prime time? Is now the time to switch over?

  • Is it possible to make WebLogic check REDEPLOY file more often?

    - by doublep
[sorry for apparent shouting in the title, it's just that the file is named in all uppercase] Given advice in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2695124 I successfully implemented and have been using autodeployment in WebLogic. This works great, but a tad too slow to my tastes, it seems like about 10 seconds pass between touching REDEPLOY file and WebLogic's start of redeployment. Is there any way I can instruct WebLogic to test timestamp on that file more often?

  • Where to find good examples or Templates for Configuration Management Plans?

    - by Geo
Documentation is not the favorite area of a developer but an important area to fulfill if you want to have standards in the organization. We are trying to put together a new Configuratio Mgmt Plan to setup Change Controls, Backups strategies and other fun things, like the process from development, staging to production. I will like to have your opinions on good examples or probably a good start for CMP process.

  • UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum showing memory leak with iPhone connected to Instruments

    - by user168739
Hi, I'm using version 3.0.1 of the SDK. With the iPhone connected to Instruments I'm getting a memory leak when I call UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum. Below is my code: NSString *gnTmpStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", count]; UIImage *ganTmpImage = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:gnTmpStr ofType:@"jpg"]]; // Request to save the image to camera roll UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(ganTmpImage, self, @selector(imageSavedToPhotosAlbum:didFinishSavingWithError:contextInfo:), nil); and the selector method - (void)imageSavedToPhotosAlbum:(UIImage *)image didFinishSavingWithError:(NSError *)error contextInfo:(void *)contextInfo { NSString *message; NSString *title; if (!error) { title = @"Wallpaper"; message = @"Wallpaper Saved"; } else { title = @"Error"; message = [error description]; } UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:title message:message delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"OK" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; } Am I forgetting to release something once the image has been saved and the selector method imageSavedToPhotosAlbum is called? Or is there a possible known issue with UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum? Here is the stack trace from Instruments: Leaked Object: GeneralBlock-3584 size: 3.50 KB 30 MyApp start 29 MyApp main /Users/user/Desktop/MyApp/main.m:14 28 UIKit UIApplicationMain 27 UIKit -[UIApplication _run] 26 GraphicsServices GSEventRunModal 25 CoreFoundation CFRunLoopRunInMode 24 CoreFoundation CFRunLoopRunSpecific 23 GraphicsServices PurpleEventCallback 22 UIKit _UIApplicationHandleEvent 21 UIKit -[UIApplication sendEvent:] 20 UIKit -[UIWindow sendEvent:] 19 UIKit -[UIWindow _sendTouchesForEvent:] 18 UIKit -[UIControl touchesEnded:withEvent:] 17 UIKit -[UIControl(Internal) _sendActionsForEvents:withEvent:] 16 UIKit -[UIControl sendAction:to:forEvent:] 15 UIKit -[UIApplication sendAction:toTarget:fromSender:forEvent:] 14 UIKit -[UIApplication sendAction:to:from:forEvent:] 13 CoreFoundation -[NSObject performSelector:withObject:withObject:] 12 UIKit -[UIBarButtonItem(Internal) _sendAction:withEvent:] 11 UIKit -[UIApplication sendAction:to:from:forEvent:] 10 CoreFoundation -[NSObject performSelector:withObject:withObject:] 9 MyApp -[FlipsideViewController svPhoto] /Users/user/Desktop/MyApp/Classes/FlipsideViewController.m:218 8 0x317fa528 7 0x317e3628 6 0x317e3730 5 0x317edda4 4 0x3180fc74 3 Foundation +[NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:toTarget:withObject:] 2 Foundation -[NSThread start] 1 libSystem.B.dylib pthread_create 0 libSystem.B.dylib malloc I did a test with a new project and only added this code below in the viewDidLoad: NSString *gnTmpStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"DefaultTest"]; UIImage *ganTmpImage = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:gnTmpStr ofType:@"png"]]; // Request to save the image to camera roll UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(ganTmpImage, nil, nil, nil); The same leak shows up right after the app loads Thank you for the help. • Best way to set-up an iPhone project?

    - by wgpubs
Looking for the best way to set-up an iPhone project in XCode ... namely: What is the preferred project template to start with (e.g View-Based or Windows-Based application)? What folder structure should I create in XCode to manage the project? For example, under "Classes" is it a preferred practice to add Models, Views and Controllers sub-folders? Any other best practices, tips, etc... would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Finding patterns in source code

    - by trex279
If I wanted to learn about pattern recognition in general what would be a good place to start (recommend a book)? Also, does anybody have any experience/knowledge on how to go about applying these algorithms to find abstraction patterns in programs? (repeated code, chunks of code that do the same thing, but in slightly different ways, etc.) Thanks Edit: I don't mind mathematically intensive books. In fact, that would be a good thing.

Any suggestions where to start, respectively any documents, tutorials, links? :) heinrich
