  • MySQL UNION query from one table + ORDER BY

    I have one table with two queries and I need to sort it with descending type using ORDER BY. Here is my MySQL query that does not work properly: (SELECT `text` FROM `comments` WHERE user_fr='".$user."' && archive='1' ORDER BY `is_new_fr` DESC) UNION (SELECT `text` FROM `message` WHERE user_to='".$user."' && archive='1' ORDER BY `is_new_to` DESC) Description! is_new_fr and is_new_to counts total new messages. Here is my table contant: user_fr | user_to | archive | is_new_fr | is_new_to| text name1 | name2 | 1 | 2 | 0 | testing... name2 | name1 | 1 | 0 | 5 | testing ... I want to make an order that 1st will display note that has more messages to few, or by another words using DESCending type. This is the display on the page I want to do: Open dialog with name2.   • Having to hit the site login button twice after first turning on computer

  • Avoid implicit conversion from date to timestamp for selects with Oracle using Hibernate

    I'm using Hibernate 3.2.7.GA criteria queries to select rows from an Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.4.0 database, filtering by a timestamp field. The field in question is of type java.util.Date in Java, and DATE in Oracle. It turns out that the field gets mapped to java.sql.Timestamp, and Oracle converts all rows to TIMESTAMP before comparing to the passed in value, bypassing the index and thereby ruining performance. One solution would be to use Hibernate's sqlRestriction() along with Oracle's TO_DATE function. That would fix performance, but requires rewriting the application code (lots of queries). So is there a more elegant solution? Since Hibernate already does type mapping, could it be configured to do the right thing? Update: The problem occurs in a variety of configurations, but here's one specific example: Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.4.0 Oracle JDBC Driver 11.1.0.7.0 Hibernate 3.2.7.GA Hibernate's Oracle10gDialect Java 1.6.0_16

    Hello, I am working with a database from a legacy app which stores 24 floating point values (doubles) as a byte array of length 192, so 8 bytes per value. This byte array is stored in a column of type image in a SQL Server 2005 database. In my .net app I need to read this byte array and convert it to a array of type Double[24]. I can access the field easy enough reader.GetBytes(...) but how to convert the returned ByteArray to Double[24] Any ideas? Thanks, AJ

    I'm writing a recursive function in Ocaml that's supposed to count the number of items in an integer list (Yes I know there's a List.length function but I'm trying to do it myself). However the Ocaml compiler/interpreter forces me to use alpha list all the time. So is it wrong to say that, when a function accepts a list as a parameter, the type of that list must always be alpha? Thanks EDIT: the reason why it's inconvenient for me to use alpha lists is because i can't compare the head of the alpha list with an integer value due to type-matching complaints

    Hi All, Been scratching my head for too long on this: Using jquery.form, (http://malsup.com/jquery/form) with PHP ... my $_FILES['someimage'] gets set but the error number is always UPLOAD_ERR_NO_FILE, size is also 0. The JavaScript: $('form input[type=file]').change(function(){ $(this).clone().appendTo('#imgform'); $('#imgform').ajaxForm(); $('#imgform').ajaxSubmit( { type:'POST' } ); }); Which appends to: <form id="imgform" method="POST" action="/api/images.php" enctype="multipart/form-data"></form> From another form which has bog-standard file inputs. PHP logs are clean, but var_dumping $_FILES always shows that the index is set to the name of the form element ... but no data. Thanks guys!   • JAX-WS wsgen and collections of collections: wsgen broken?

    I've been playing around with "bottom-up" JAX-WS and have come across something odd when running wsgen. If I have a service class that does something like: @WebService public class Foo { public ArrayList<Bar> getBarList(String baz) { ... } } then running wsgen gets me a FooService_schema1.xsd that has something like this: <xs:complexType name="getBarListResponse"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="return" type="tns:bar" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> which seems reasonable. However, if I want a collection of collections like: public BarCollection getBarCollection(String baz) { ... } // BarCollection is just a container for an ArrayList<Bar> then the generated schema ends up with stuff like: <xs:complexType name="barCollection"> <xs:sequence/> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="getBookCollectionsResponse"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="return" type="tns:barCollection" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> An empty sequence is not what I had in mind at all.   • SqlParameter contructor compiler overload choice

    When creating a SqlParameter (.NET3.5) or OdbcParameter I often use the SqlParameter(string parameterName, Object value) constructor overload to set the value in one statement. When I tried passing a literal 0 as the value paramter I was initially caught by the C# compiler choosing the (string, OdbcType) overload instead of (string, Object). MSDN actually warns about this gotcha in the remarks section, but the explanation confuses me. Why does the C# compiler decide that a literal 0 parameter should be converted to OdbcType rather than Object? The warning also says to use Convert.ToInt32(0) to force the Object overload to be used. It confusingly says that this converts the 0 to an "Object type". But isn't 0 already an "Object type"? The Types of Literal Values section of this page seems to say literals are always typed and so inherit from System.Object. This behavior doesn't seem very intuitive given my current understanding? Is this something to do with Contra-variance or Co-variance maybe?

  • vs2008 mystery: Quick macro record and playback shortcuts not allowed?

    in vs2008, Tools, Macros, Record TemporaryMacro keyboard shortcut toggle is Ctrl+Shift+R; Run TemporaryMacro keyboard shorcut is Ctrl+Shift+P for playback. I've used them before, but they've stopped working. If I open Tools, Options, Keyboard, then navigate to a command like Tools.Run that has no assigned keyboard shortcut, I can experiment by pretending to assign a keyboard shorcut: I simply click inside the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox and try different keystroke combinations. Examples: Ctrl+p: currently assigned to File.Print Ctrl+r: currently assigned to various uses Ctrl+Shift+Q: available Ctrl+Shift+B: currently assigned to Build.BuildSolution BUT vs2008 will not even allow me to type either of Ctrl+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+R in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. When I type those combinations, nothing appears in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. Please note: I can record and playback a temporary macro by using the menu commands, however, the mouse is like a turtle when compared to the keyboard.     As discussed here, I'm trying to add a WCF endpoint-extension; I've got it working, but I need to include the full assembly details: <extensions> <behaviorExtensions> <add name="protobuf" type="ProtoBuf.ServiceModel.ProtoBehaviorExtension, protobuf-net, Version=1.0.0.275, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=257b51d87d2e4d67"/> </behaviorExtensions> </extensions> What I would like to do (to avoid issues when updating etc, especially for samples) is to include just the names: <add name="protobuf" type="ProtoBuf.ServiceModel.ProtoBehaviorExtension, protobuf-net"/> (which is what you might expect from standard assembly-naming conventions) However, if I do this, I get a big error: Parser Error Message: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for system.serviceModel/behaviors: Extension element 'protobuf' cannot be added to this element. Verify that the extension is registered in the extension collection at system.serviceModel/extensions/behaviorExtensions. Is it possible (and if so: how) to add an extension without having to specify the assembly-version?

  • Choosing the right .NET architecture. WCF? WPF/Forms, ASP.NET (MVC)?

    I’m in the situation that I have to design and implement a rather big system from the bottom. I’m having some (a lot actually) questions about the architecture that I would like your comments and thoughts on. I don’t hope that I’ve written too much here, but I wanted to give you all an idea of what the system is. Quick info about the applications, read if you want: I can’t share much detail about the project, but basically it’s a system where we offer our customer a service to manage their users. We have a hotline where the users call and our hotline uses an (windows) application (intranet) to manage the user’s data, etc. The customer also has a web application where they can see reports, information about their business and users, and the ability to modify their data. Modifying data is not just user data like address and so, but also information about the products/services the user has, which can be complicated. The applications will be built on Microsoft .NET Framework 4, with a MS SQL Server 2008 database. There will be a few applications that have to access this database, such as: Intranet application (used by us and our hotline) Customer web application type 1 Customer web application type 2 Customer web application type n different applications) … Now my big problem is what .NET parts I should use for such a system. For the “backend” I’ve considered using Windows Communication Foundation: Would WCF be a good choice? The intranet application will be an application that has to edit lots of records in the database. It has to be easy to navigate using the keyboard (fast to work with). Has a feature such as “find customer, find that, lookup this, choose this and update that”. What would be the best choice to develop this application in? Would it be WPF or good old Windows Forms? I don’t need all of the fancy graphics features in WPF, like 3D, but the application has to look nice (maybe something like the new Visual Studio/Office tools). And the same question goes for the web pages. They have much the same work to do, but not as many features as the intranet application, and not the same amount of data (much less). That is my questions for now. I’m hoping to get a discussion going that will open my eyes to some of these technologies, helping me decide architecture to go with. I would like to say thanks in advance, and let you all know that any thoughts will be much appreciated.
