  • Design Stock Server Application in C++

    - by Avinash
    [Queston asked in ML Interview] Design an server/application which handle multiple incoming stock information ( stock symbol and values ) Server need to store the information in some cache ( need to design the data structure ), There are multiple client connected to server using tcp/ip socket. They will subscribe to particular request say stock symbol XYZ , and may be for more then one. As and when there is change the stock symbol server should broadcast the information to subscribed client. If tcp/ip write failed, server should handle the unregistration of the client. What various data structures will be used and how threading model will be ?

  • Python: why does str() on some text from a UTF-8 file give a UnicodeDecodeError?

    - by AP257
    I'm processing a UTF-8 file in Python, and have used simplejson to load it into a dictionary. However, I'm getting a UnicodeDecodeError when I try to turn one of the dictionary values into a string: f = open('my_json.json', 'r') master_dictionary = json.load(f) #some json wrangling, then it fails on this line... mysql_string += " ('" + str(v_dict['code']) Traceback (most recent call last): File "my_file.py", line 25, in <module> str(v_dict['code']) + "'), " UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xf4' in position 35: ordinal not in range(128) Why is Python even using ASCII? I thought it used UTF-8 by default, and this is a UTF-8 file. What is the problem?

  • a nicer way to create structs in a loop

    - by sandra
    Hi guys, I haven't coded in C++ in ages. And recently, I'm trying to work on something involving structs. Like this typedef struct{ int x; int y; } Point; Then in a loop, I'm trying to create new structs and put pointers to them them in a list. Point* p; int i, j; while (condition){ // compute values for i and j with some function... p = new Point; p* = {i, j}; //initialize my struct. list.append(p); //append this pointer to my list. } Now, my question is it possible to simplify this? I mean, the pointer variable *p outside of the loop and calling p = new Point inside the loop. Isn't there a better/nicer syntax for this?

  • How to parse XML in VBA

    - by dev
    Hi, I work in VBA, and want to parse a string eg <PointN xsi:type='typens:PointN' xmlns:xsi='<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance>' xmlns:xs='<http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema>'><X>24.365</X><Y>78.63</Y></PointN> and get the X & Y values into two separate integer variables. I'm a newbie when it comes to XML, since I'm stuck in VB6 and VBA, because of the field I work in. How do I do this?

  • What's the difference between PATH_NOT_FOUND and NAME_NOT_FOUND

    - by Benjamin
    In Win32 layer, we often meet ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND, ERROR_NAME_NOT_FOUND. When does WinAPI(eg CreateFileW, RemoveDirectoryW) return these values? And What's the difference? If I write a file system driver, when do I set STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND or STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND? I'm so confused. Is there anyone who can explain clearly? Or are there any documents explain this? I couldn't find them. Thanks in advance.

  • How to make pytest display a custom string representation for fixture parameters?

    - by Björn Pollex
    When using builtin types as fixture parameters, pytest prints out the value of the parameters in the test report. For example: @fixture(params=['hello', 'world'] def data(request): return request.param def test_something(data): pass Running this with py.test --verbose will print something like: test_example.py:7: test_something[hello] PASSED test_example.py:7: test_something[world] PASSED Note that the value of the parameter is printed in square brackets after the test name. Now, when using an object of a user-defined class as parameter, like so: class Param(object): def __init__(self, text): self.text = text @fixture(params=[Param('hello'), Param('world')] def data(request): return request.param def test_something(data): pass pytest will simply enumerate the number of values (p0, p1, etc.): test_example.py:7: test_something[p0] PASSED test_example.py:7: test_something[p1] PASSED This behavior does not change even when the user-defined class provides custom __str__ and __repr__ implementations. Is there any way to make pytest display something more useful than just p0 here? I am using pytest 2.5.2 on Python 2.7.6 on Windows 7.

  • NullPointerException when adding to BigDecimal

    - by Dan
    String[] toppings = new String[10]; BigDecimal toppingsPrice = null; toppings[0] = req.getParameter("extraCheese"); toppings[1] = req.getParameter("moreTomatoes"); toppings[2] = req.getParameter("extraOnions"); // ... for(int i = 0; i < toppings.length; i++) { if(toppings[i] != null) { toppingsPrice.add(new BigDecimal("0.99")); // <-- NPE is caused here. toppingsPrice = toppingsPrice.setScale(2, BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_EVEN); } } I am getting a NullPointerException in the above code when adding 0.99 to toppingsPrice. I am working with money values, so I have used BigDecimal. Is there something wrong with how I am adding the 0.99c price?

  • How to I count key collisions when using boost::unordered_map?

    - by Nikhil
    I have a data structure with 15 unsigned longs, I have defined a hash function using hash_combine as follows: friend std::size_t hash_value(const TUPLE15& given) { std::size_t seed = 0; boost::hash_combine(seed, val1); boost::hash_combine(seed, val2); ... return seed; } I insert a large number of values into a boost::unordered_map but the performance is not good enough. Probably, I could do better with an alternative hashing function. To confirm this, I need to check how many collisions I am getting. How do I do this?

  • converting a form from text to textarea

    - by David Cook
    I have a form created to pull PHP values into my database. I created the form with all type="text" constructions. What follows is the code that used to set up the input of data and confirmed that it is functional. <label>About Me: <input type="text" name="BIO_info"/></label> I converted the input to a textarea and adjusted some parameters for proper display. Unfortunately, it has broken the ability for the script to function. What follows is the code I wrote to convert and store from a text area input. <label for="BIO_info" style=" margin-bottom: 500px; margin-top: 2000px; ">About Me: <textarea name="BIO_info" rows="20" cols="60" style="resize: none; overflow-y: hidden;vertical-align:middle;"></textarea> <p> I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • How do you make your Java application memory efficient?

    - by Boune
    How do you optimize the heap size usage of an application that has a lot (millions) of long-lived objects? (big cache, loading lots of records from a db) Use the right data type Avoid java.lang.String to represent other data types Avoid duplicated objects Use enums if the values are known in advance Use object pools String.intern() (good idea?) Load/keep only the objects you need I am looking for general programming or Java specific answers. No funky compiler switch. Edit: Optimize the memory representation of a POJO that can appear millions of times in the heap. Use cases Load a huge csv file in memory (converted into POJOs) Use hibernate to retrieve million of records from a database Resume of answers: Use flyweight pattern Copy on write Instead of loading 10M objects with 3 properties, is it more efficient to have 3 arrays (or other data structure) of size 10M? (Could be a pain to manipulate data but if you are really short on memory...)

  • how to write floating value accurately to a bin file.

    - by user319873
    Hi I am trying to dump the floating point values from my program to a bin file. Since I can't use any stdlib function, I am thinking of writting it char by char to a big char array which I am dumping in my test application to a file. It's like float a=3132.000001; I will be dumping this to a char array in 4 bytes. Code example would be:- if((a < 1.0) && (a > 1.0) || (a > -1.0 && a < 0.0)) a = a*1000000 // 6 bit fraction part. Can you please help me writting this in a better way.

  • Simple Serialization Faster Than JSON? (in Ruby)

    - by Sinan Taifour
    I have an application written in ruby (that runs in the JRuby VM). When profiling it, I realized that it spends a lot (actually almost all of) its time converting some hashes into JSON. These hashes have keys of symbols, values of other similar hashes, arrays, strings, and numbers. Is there a serialization method that is suitable for such an input, and would typically run faster than JSON? It would preferable if it is has a Java or JRuby-compatible gem, too. I am currently using the jruby-json gem, which is the fastest JSON implementation in JRuby (as I am told), so the move will most likely be to a different serialization method rather than just a different library. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

  • Problems with mod_rewrite and 301 redirects from one dynamic url to another

    - by user349891
    Hey all, I'm having all kinds of problems with a bunch of apache redirects just now and could really use some help! I'm wating to put in a 301 redirect for a load of urls from a client's old site to their new site in the following format; Old - page.php?pageNum_rs_all=0&totalRows_rs_all=112 New - page/sub?foo=bar The values in the query sting for the old site don't in any way tie up to any ids or references on the new site, I only want to match that specific request and redirect to the new page. It feels like I've tried just about every combination of rewriterule I can find online but still nothing seems to be working. This is running on Apache 2.2. The rule I started with (and keep going back to) is; RewriteRule ^/page.php\?pageNum_rs_all=0&totalRows_rs_all=112 /page/sub?foo=bar [R=301,L,NE] Any help would be greatly appreciated! c.

  • UIWebView: Media Player Rotates View Controller

    - by RileyE
    I'm encountering an issue while using a webview. My app is currently a portrait application, but when a media player loads in a webview within my app, the user can rotate the player, which rotates my view controller as well. I know I can get a notification for when the player comes up and disappears, but is there a way to prevent it from rotating the controller in the first place? It doesn't seem like anyone has an answer. I have all of the standard "don't rotate unless if I tell you to" methods and plist values, but its still rotating. Its only when I load up a webview and the media player loads over it. If I rotate my device, the media player rotates along with it, which feels natural, but when I go back to the webview view controller, its rotated, which isn't good.

  • HowTo parse numbers from string with BOOST methods?

    - by mosg
    Problem: Visual C++ 10 project (using MFC and Boost libraries). In one of my methods I'm reading simple test.txt file. Here is what inside of the file (std::string): 12 asdf789, 54,19 1000 nsfewer:22!13 Then I'm reading it and I have to convert all digits to int only with boost methods. For example, I have a list of different characters which I have to parse: ( ’ ' ) ( [ ], ( ), { }, ? ? ) ( : ) ( , ) ( ! ) ( . ) ( - ) ( ? ) ( ‘ ’, “ ”, « » ) ( ; ) ( / ) And after conversation I must have some kind of a massive of int's values, like this one: 12,789,54,19,1000,22,13 Maybe some one already did this job? PS. I'm new for boost. Thanks!

  • What is an alternative to ADO.NET, but elegant way in C# to read Excel files

    - by Khnle
    ADO.NET just fails miserably when it's used to read Excel files where a column contains mixed data types. It appears that it tries to determine the data type of a column, and then assume the rest of the entire column is of the same data type. Here are some backgrounds: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2968111/how-to-prevent-ado-net-from-altering-double-values-when-it-reads-from-excel-files http://blog.lab49.com/archives/196 What is an alternative approach that doesn't require automation, Excel to be co-installed, is simple (since the input excel file will only have one worksheet in each file).

  • insert into several inheritance tables with OUTPUT - sql servr 2005

    - by csetzkorn
    Hi, I have a bunch of items – for simplicity reasons – a flat table with unique names seeded via bulk insert: create table #items ( ItemName NVARCHAR(255) ) The database has this structure: create table Statements ( Id INT IDENTITY NOT NULL, Version INT not null, FurtherDetails varchar(max) null, ProposalDateTime DATETIME null, UpdateDateTime DATETIME null, ProposerFk INT null, UpdaterFk INT null, primary key (Id) ) create table Item ( StatementFk INT not null, ItemName NVARCHAR(255) null, primary key (StatementFk) ) Here Item is a child of Statement (inheritance). I would like to insert items in #items using a set based approach (avoiding triggers and loops). Can this be achieved with OUTPUT in my scenario. A ‘loop based’ approach is just too slow where I use something like this: insert into Statements (Version, FurtherDetails, ProposalDateTime, UpdateDateTime, ProposerFk, UpdaterFk) VALUES (1, null, getdate(), getdate(), @user_id, @user_id) etc. This is a start for the OUTPUT based approach – but I am not sure whether this would work in my case as ItemName is only inserted into Item: insert into Statements ( Version, FurtherDetails, ProposalDateTime, UpdateDateTime, ProposerFk, UpdaterFk ) output inserted.Id ... ??? Thanks. Best wishes, Christian

  • How do I find the previous/default value of a radio button in JS?

    - by royrules22
    I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I figured I'd ask before clubbing togehter an ugly solution. What I have is a group of radio buttons and I want to trigger a function if the radio button value is changed. For example say there are three buttons X Y and Z with Y default selected. If a user clicks on an unselected button (i.e. X or Z) then the function gets triggered but if he/she clicks on Y (which is already selected) nothing happens. Naturally the best solution would be to fire the function on an onchange event but IE6 doesn't fire onchange until the focus is no longer on the element which is not satisfactory. So is there a way to know what the previous value of the radio button was or at least what its default value is? I could easily create an array of default values and check against that but I'm trying to reduce the overhead. Please no jQuery suggestions ;)

  • Check if XML node is empty

    - by Vinit
    I have a simple XML structure like <main> <node1><!-- comments --><!-- comments --></node1> </main> and this can have any number of sub-nodes or values like: <main> <node1><!-- comments --><!-- comments --><p>texttext text</p> more text <br/></node1> </main> I want to check if the node is empty or not: I'm doing something like: <xsl:if test="string-length(main/node1//text())&gt;0"> But it does not work as if there are multiple tags, then string-length function will break coz of multiple arguments. Any help to solve this issue is really appreciated.

  • C# is there a problem with division?

    - by Tom
    This is a piece of my code, it is called every second, after about 10 seconds the values start to become weird (see below): double a; double b; for (int i = 0; i < currAC.Length; i++ ) { a = currAC[i]; b = aveACValues[i]; divisor = (a/b); Console.WriteLine("a = " + a.ToString("N2") + "\t" + "b = " + b.ToString("N2")); Console.WriteLine("divisor = " + divisor); Console.WriteLine("a+b = " + (a+b)); } and the output: a = -0.05 b = 0.00 divisor = 41 a+b = -0.0524010372273268 currAC and aveACValues are double[] what on earth is going on???? The addition result is correct every time, but the division value is wrong, yet it is reading a and b correctly?? EDIT: '41' is the value of the first calculation, ie when a = currAC[0], but this should not remain???

I have a control which creates checkbox list (inside div_A) on load and get checkbox checked through database, then i click Continue, div_A get invisible with all the checked checkbox id in hidden field and div_B is visible true. On Go Back click, div_B is visible false and div_A get visible true and following javascript is fired to check the selected checkbox, but it does not work Javascript : function goBack() { var SIds = document.getElementById("<%=hdv_Data.ClientID %>").value; // hdv_Data is the hidden field var Ids_Arr = new Array(); Ids_Arr = SIds.split(','); for (j = 0; j < Ids_Arr.length; j++) { if(Ids_Arr[j] != 0) { alert(Ids_Arr[j]); // works till here, gets correct values in array var chk = document.getElementById(Ids_Arr[j]); alert(chk); chk.checked = true; } } }

  • Database design: objects with different attributes

    - by Álvaro G. Vicario
    I'm designing a product database where products can have very different attributes depending on their type, but attributes are fixed for each type and types are not manageable at all. E.g.: magazine: title, issue_number, pages, copies, close_date, release_date web_site: name, bandwidth, hits, date_from, date_to I want to use InnoDB and enforce database integrity as much as the engine allows. What's the recommended way to handle this? I hate those designs where tables have 100 columns and most of the values are NULL so I thought about something like this: product_type ============ product_type_id INT product_type_name VARCHAR product ======= product_id INT product_name VARCHAR product_type_id INT -> Foreign key to product_type.product_type_id valid_since DATETIME valid_to DATETIME magazine ======== magazine_id INT title VARCHAR product_id INT -> Foreign key to product.product_id issue_number INT pages INT copies INT close_date DATETIME release_date DATETIME web_site ======== web_site_id INT name VARCHAR product_id INT -> Foreign key to product.product_id bandwidth INT hits INT date_from DATETIME date_to DATETIME This can handle cascaded product deletion but... Well, I'm not fully convinced...
