  • Generating incremental numeric column values during INSERT SELECT statement

    - by Charles
I need to copy some data from one table to another in Oracle, while generating incremental values for a numeric column in the new table. This is a once-only exercise with a trivial number of rows (100). I have an adequate solution to this problem but I'm curious to know if there is a more elegant way. I'm doing it with a temporary sequence, like so: CREATE SEQUENCE temp_seq START WITH 1; INSERT INTO new_table (new_col, copied_col1, copied_col2) SELECT temp_seq.NEXTVAL, o.* FROM (SELECT old_col1, old_col2 FROM old_table) o; DROP SEQUENCE temp_seq; Is there way to do with without creating the sequence or any other temporary object? Specifically, can this be done with a self-contained INSERT SELECT statement? There are similar questions, but I believe the specifics of my question are original to SO.

  • Separating MySQL SELECT statement based on data in a column

    - by NightMICU
Hi everyone, I need to retrieve data (vehicle details, in this case) from a MySQL table tabled and then loop through the results to generate separate lists for each category of vehicle. Is there a simple way to do this without having to have a SELECT statement for each type of vehicle? If I were just doing this for one category, I would use the following: <?php $sql = "SELECT * FROM apparatus WHERE vehicleType = 'Support'; $getSQL = mysql_query($sql); ?> <ul> <?php while ($vehicleData = mysql_fetch_assoc($getSQL)) {?> <li><?php echo $vehicleData['name'];?></li> <?php } ?> </ul> ..etc. Need to do this for four different types of vehicles. Thanks!

  • VS 2010 SQL Update for SQL Statement

    - by Mike Tucker
Please bear with me as I'm just beginning to learn this stuff. I have a VS 2010 Web project up and I'm trying to understand how I can make a custom UpdateCommand (Because I chose to write my own SQL statement, I do not have the option for VS 2010 to auto generate an update command for me.) Problem is: I don't know what the UpdateCommand should look like. Here is my Select: SELECT * FROM Dbo.MainAsset, dbo.Model, dbo.Hardware WHERE MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID AND MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID Which, VS 2010 turns into: SELECT MainAsset.pk, MainAsset.img, MainAsset.device, MainAsset.model, MainAsset.os, MainAsset.asset, MainAsset.serial, MainAsset.inyear, MainAsset.expyear, MainAsset.site, MainAsset.room, MainAsset.teacher, MainAsset.FirstName, MainAsset.LastName, MainAsset.Notes, MainAsset.Dept, MainAsset.AccountingCode, Model.Model AS Hardware, Model.pk AS Model, Model.DeviceID, Hardware.Computer, Hardware.pk AS Expr3, Hardware.DeviceID AS Expr4 FROM MainAsset INNER JOIN Hardware ON MainAsset.device = Hardware.DeviceID INNER JOIN Model ON MainAsset.model = Model.DeviceID How would I approach updating one column, say "MainAsset.site" if that's changed in the Gridview DDL? Any help constructive help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • If statement in MySQL query with PHP

    - by user1104854
Is it possible to use an if statement in a MySQL query in a similar what I'm showing? I want to grab some information for upcoming events(not ones with previous dates). ini_set('date.timezone', 'America/New_York'); $timestamp = date('m/d/Y'); $sql = "select eventID,eventTitle, eventDate from events where eventLocationID = $locationID ORDER BY eventDate DESC IF(eventDate > $timestamp) "; I really want to avoid doing post-query if statements that will only print if it's after today's date because I run it through a pagination function, and I'd really prefer to avoid tinkering with that.

  • [sqlalchemy] subquery in select statement

    - by webjunkie
Hi guys, I have two tables (albums, pictures) in a one to many relationship and I want to display each albums details with one picture so I have the following query select albums.name,(select pictures.path from pictures where pictures.albumid=albums.id limit 1) as picture from albums where ... Now I'm struggling creating this on Pylons with sqlalchemy I tried to do the following picture = Session.query(model.Picture) sub_q = picture.filter_by(albumid = model.Album.id).limit(1).subquery() album_q = Session.query(model.Album, sub_q) result = album_q.all() but it creates the following statement displaying the incorrect picture beacuse the table albums is included in the subquery select albums.name,(select pictures.path from pictures, albums where pictures.albumid=albums.id) from albums where ... Am I doing it wrong?, is this even possible in sqlalchemy?.

  • C# SQL SELECT Statement

    - by Feren6
I have the following code: SqlCommand cmd2 = new SqlCommand("SELECT ClaimId FROM tblPayment WHERE PaymentId = " + PaymentID.ToString(), mvarDBConn); SqlDataReader reader = cmd2.ExecuteReader(); reader.Read(); Int32 ClaimId = reader.GetInt32(0); reader.Close(); If I run the SELECT statement in SQL it returns the number fine, but when I use ExecuteReader all it returns is 0. I've tried multiple methods including ExecuteScalar, ExecuteNonQuery, reader.GetString then casting that to an int, etc. What am I missing? Thanks.

  • How to select first entry of the day grouped by user in SQL

    - by mikepreble
I've looked around and can't quite grasp the whole answer to this SQL query question needed to extract data from an MS Access 2000 table. Here's an example of what the table [Time Sub] looks like: CLIENT_ID, DATE_ENTERED, CODE, MINUTES 11111, 5/12/2008 3:50:52 PM, M, 38 11111, 5/12/2008 2:55:50 PM, M, 2 11714, 5/13/2008 1:15:32 PM, M, 28 11111, 5/13/2008 6:15:12 PM, W, 11 11112, 5/12/2008 2:50:52 PM, M, 89 11112, 5/12/2008 5:10:52 PM, M, 9 91112, 5/14/2008 1:10:52 PM, L, 96 11112, 5/12/2008 5:11:52 PM, M, 12 I need to select the first entry of each day per client that's NOT code L or W. I know this can be done in a SQL statement, but I just can't figure out how. I can get close, but never come up with the right output. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mike

  • Wordpress php: Way to test if pages are children of a parent page?

    - by Erykan
Hi - Working on my first Wordpress site so I'm sure this is a really basic question. I'm struggling to write a conditional php statement that performs a certain action when a page is a child of a parent page. For example, rather than just specifying one page, as below, I'd like to specify all pages that have the 'About Us' page as a parent: <?php if (is_page('About Us')) echo 'Hello World!'; ?> I've tried the "child_of" function but it wasn't as straightforward as I'd hoped. When I use the below, I get a syntax error - probably just me not knowing how to use the function: <?php if (child_of('About Us')) echo 'Hello World!'; ?> Any suggestions? Thanks!!

  • UPDATE statement wrapped in an IF EXISTS block

    - by formica
I'm trying to write a DML script that updates a column but I wanted to make sure the column existed first so I wrapped it in a IF EXISTS block IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME='Client' AND COLUMN_NAME='IsClarityEnabled') BEGIN UPDATE Client SET IsClarityEnabled = 1 WHERE ClientID = 21 END So the weirdness is that it tries to execute the update even if it fails the condition. So column doesn't exist and the UPDATE statement runs and I get an error. Why? Even stranger is that this does work: IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME='Client' AND COLUMN_NAME='IsClarityEnabled') BEGIN EXEC('UPDATE Client SET IsClarityEnabled = 1 WHERE ClientID = 21') END Is there something special about an UPDATE command that causes it to behave this way?

  • Is this a valid C statement ?

    - by Philando Gullible
Lets say I write char c[99] = {'Stack Overflow'}; in C or C++ it does compiles fine but does this valid? By valid I meant not invoking any kind of undefined or unspecified behavior. Again if I write char c[99] = 'Stack Overflow'; gcc complains about multicharacter constant which is obvious but in the above when I am enclosing within curly brackets compiler is happy! why is it so ? I also notice that puts(c); after the first statement will output 'w' precisely the last character of a general string in-place of Stack Overflow. why so ? Could somebody explain this behavior may be separately.

  • Update multiple values in a single statement

    - by Kluge
I have a master / detail table and want to update some summary values in the master table against the detail table. I know I can update them like this: update MasterTbl set TotalX = (select sum(X) from DetailTbl where DetailTbl.MasterID = MasterTbl.ID) update MasterTbl set TotalY = (select sum(Y) from DetailTbl where DetailTbl.MasterID = MasterTbl.ID) update MasterTbl set TotalZ = (select sum(Z) from DetailTbl where DetailTbl.MasterID = MasterTbl.ID) But, I'd like to do it in a single statement, something like this: update MasterTbl set TotalX = sum(DetailTbl.X), TotalY = sum(DetailTbl.Y), TotalZ = sum(DetailTbl.Z) from DetailTbl where DetailTbl.MasterID = MasterTbl.ID group by MasterID but that doesn't work. I've also tried versions that omit the "group by" clause. I'm not sure whether I'm bumping up against the limits of my particular database (Advantage), or the limits of my SQL. Probably the latter. Can anyone help?

  • Python if statement not working as expected

    - by Chris Esposito
I'm searching for a string in a website and checking to see if the location of this string is in the expected location. I know the string starts at the 182nd character, and if I print temp it will even tell me that it is 182, however, the if statement says 182 is not 182. Some code f = urllib.urlopen(link) #store page contents in 's' s = f.read() f.close() temp = s.find('lettersandnumbers') if (htmlsize == "197"): #if ((s.find('lettersandnumbers')) == "182"): if (temp=="182"): print "Glorious" doStuff() else: print "HTML not correct. Aborting." else: print htmlsize print "File size is incorrect. Aborting."

    - by Yosef
Hi, I study about today about 2 database design inheritance approaches: 1. Single Table Inheritance 2. Class Table Inheritance In my student opinion Single Table Inheritance make database more smaller vs other approaches because she use only 1 table. But i read that the more favorite approach is Class Table Inheritance according Bill Karwin. My Question is: Single Table Inheritance pros and cons and in which case it used? thanks, Yosef

  • Web Security: Worst-Case Situation

    - by Yongho
I currently have built a system that checks user IP, browser, and a random-string cookie to determine if he is an admin. In the worst case, someone steals my cookie, uses the same browser I do, and masks his IP to appear as mine. Is there another layer of security I should add onto my script to make it more secure?

    - by user171523
I am in the process of building a system where i need to notify a Window Service a .net based application in case of any change in the DB table (Insert , Update , Delete). I know this can be done with the ADO.NET Events in SQL. Is there any common solution for Oracle and SQL which can provide this kind of notifications. This needs to happen as and when the update happens on real time basis.
