• How to Re-install an App that Shows up in the Appstore as 'Update' Instead of 'Buy App'

  So long story short: I dropped the wrong app into 'clean my mac' and I hit 'cancel' but it was too late by that point. I rebooted and appstore said it had an update, when I opened appstore it was showing an update for the app I just uninstalled. I tried clicking 'update' but it gives me an error saying it's unable to install after 'downloading'. When I try to go into 'purchased apps' it shows the app as uninstalled so I click 'install' and I get an error saying it's already installed. I'm running Lion OS X, latest version, updated, mac book pro is only a few months old. I tried searching through the entire system to remove all traces of the app, after rebooting appstore no longer shows the app and no longer shows the update but on the apps page it still says 'Update'. I tried reinstalling the app from desktop OUT of the appstore and again says the app is 'already installed'. So after reading more about lion I found an article that spoke about 'BundleID' being the thing that tells appstore what's installed and needing updating however I can't find the location of where the BundleID would be. Any thoughts? I've tried CCleaner, AppCleaner etc and none of them show the app, mainly because it is uninstalled. Update I've spoken to Apple Support who confirmed that there is a file in the system that connects separately to tell the system if there are updates available however they declined to inform me of any further details. Apple also referred me from technical support to iTunes App Store opposed to Mac App Store support and from there I have been referred to AppleCare who are currently 'investigating' this issue. Hopefully there will be a fix that's simple to implement for people having similar issues, this appears to be a more common issue than I previously thought.

• Core Data migration problem: "Persistent store migration failed, missing source managed object model

  The Background A Cocoa Non Document Core Data project with two Managed Object Models. Model 1 stays the same. Model 2 has changed, so I want to migrate the store. I've created a new version by Design Data Model Add Model Version in Xcode. The difference between versions is a single relationship that's been changed from to a one to many. I've made my changes to the model, then saved. I've made a new Mapping Model that has the old model as a source and new model as a destination. I've ensured all Mapping Models and Data Models and are being compiled and all are copied to the Resource folder of my app bundle. I've switched on migrations by passing in a dictionary with the NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption key as [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] when adding the Persistent Store. Rather than merging all models in the bundle, I've specified the two models I want to use (model 1 and the new version of model 2) and merged them using modelByMergingModels: The Problem No matter what I do to migrate, I get the error message: "Persistent store migration failed, missing source managed object model." What I've Tried I clean after every single build. I've tried various combinations of having only the model I'm migrating to in Resources, being compiled, or both. Since the error message implies it can't find the source model for my migration, I've tried having every version of the model in both the Resources folder and being compiled. I've made sure I'm not making a really basic error by switching back to the original version of my data model. The app runs fine. I've deleted the Mapping Model and the new version of the model, cleaned, then recreated both. I've tried making a different change in the new model - deleting an entity instead. I'm at my wits end. I can't help but think I've made a huge mistake somewhere that I'm not seeing. Any ideas?

• Ext.data.Store, Javascript Arrays and Ext.grid.ColumnModel

  I am using Ext.data.Store to call a PHP script which returns a JSON response with some metadata about fields that will be used in a query (unique name, table, field, and user-friendly title). I then loop through each of the Ext.data.Record objects, placing the data I need into an array (this_column), push that array onto the end of another array (columns), and eventually pass this to an Ext.grid.ColumnModel object. The problem I am having is - no matter which query I am testing against (I have a number of them, varying in size and complexity), the columns array always works as expected up to columns[15]. At columns[16], all indexes from that point and previous are filled with the value of columns[15]. This behavior continues until the loop reaches the end of the Ext.data.Store object, when the entire arrays consists of the same value. • Store comparison in variable (or execute comparison when it's given as an string)

  Hello everyone. I'd like to know if the super-powerful python allows to store a comparison in a variable or, if not, if it's possible calling/executing a comparison when given as an string ("==" or "!=") I want to allow the users of my program the chance of giving a comparison in an string. For instance, let's say I have a list of... "products" and the user wants to select the products whose manufacturer is "foo". He could would input something like: Product.manufacturer == "foo" and if the user wants the products whose manufacturer is not "bar" he would input Product.manufacturer != "bar" If the user inputs that line as an string, I create a tree with an structure like: != / \ manufacturer bar I'd like to allow that comparison to run properly, but I don't know how to make it happen if != is an string. The "manufacturer" field is a property, so I can properly get it from the Product class and store it (as a property) in the leaf, and well... "bar" is just an string. I'd like to know if I can something similar to what I do with "manufacturer": storing it with a 'callable" (kind of) thing: the property with the comparator: != I have tried with "eval" and it may work, but the comparisons are going to be actually used to query a MySQL database (using sqlalchemy) and I'm a bit concerned about the security of that... Any idea will be deeply appreciated. Thank you! PS: The idea of all this is being able to generate a sqlalchemy query, so if the user inputs the string: Product.manufacturer != "foo" || Product.manufacturer != "bar" ... my tree thing can generate the following: sqlalchemy.or_(Product.manufacturer !="foo", Product.manufacturer !="bar") Since sqlalchemy.or_ is callable, I can also store it in one of the leaves... • What are the reasons to store documents into DBMS when using Alfresco CMS

  Hello guys! I have interview for an internship with company that wants to implement document management system and they are considering on the first place open source solutions, their top choice being Alfresco, but decision is still not final, part of my work there would be to investigate is Alfresco the best solution. What I have seen from project description, is that they would implement Alfresco with MySQL database, and not to use DBMS just for document metadata and indexing, but they actually want to store documents inside. By company profile, type of documents would be mostly PDF and .doc, not images. I have researched a bit, and I have read all the topics here related to storing files into the database, not to duplicate a question. So from what I understand, storing BLOBS is generally not recomendable, and by the profile of the company and their legal obligations with archiving, I see they will have to store larger amount of docs. I would like to be ready as much as I can for the interview and that is why I would like your opinion on these questions: What will be your reasons for deciding to store documents into the DBMS, (especially having in mind that you are installing Alfresco, which stores files in the FS)??? Do you have any experiences with storing documents into the MySQL database specifically??? All the help is very much appreciated, I am really excited about interview and really want this internship, so this is one of things i really want to understand before!! Thank you!!!!

• How to Store State in Silverlight WCF RIA Services

  Hi All, I am developing a silverlight 3 application using WCF RIA services. I am using the AuthenticationBase class to handle my authentication. As I understand it under the hood this uses the ASP .NET authentication libraries. When I log into the site the authentication service handles login state so that if I close the site and open it straight away I am still logged in according to the server. When the webpage is refreshed or closed and reloaded I can call the method, WebContextBase.Current.Authentication.LoadUser() And it goes back to the authentication service (running on the server) and figures out whether I am still logged into the site. If a timeout has occured the answer will be no. If that is the case I can show a login dialog. The problem I want to solve is that the authentication service consumes the password, and there is no way I can ever retrieve that password again. If the user logs into the site I want to store the password on the server, and return a token to the client side to match up with that password. I have some other services on the server side that need that password. So where should I store that password on the server? How can that be done? How does the WCF authentication store state?

• How to store unlimited characters in Oracle 11g?

  We have a table in Oracle 11g with a varchar2 column. We use a proprietary programming language where this column is defined as string. Maximum we can store 2000 characters (4000 bytes) in this column. Now the requirement is such that the column needs to store more than 2000 characters (in fact unlimited characters). The DBAs don't like BLOB or LONG datatypes for maintenance reasons. The solution that I can think of is to remove this column from the original table and have a separate table for this column and then store each character in a row, in order to get unlimited characters. This tble will be joined with the original table for queries. Is there any better solution to this problem? UPDATE: The proprietary programming language allows to define variables of type string and blob, there is no option of CLOB. I understand the responses given, but I cannot take on the DBAs. I understand that deviating from BLOB or LONG will be developers' nightmare, but still cannot help it.

• Weblogic 10.0: SAMLSignedObject.verify() failed to validate signature value

  I've been having this problem for a while and it's driving me nuts. I'm trying to create a client (in C# .NET 2.0) that will use SAML 1.1 to sign on to a WebLogic 10.0 server (i.e., a Single Sign-On scenario, using browser/post profile). The client is on a WinXP machine and the WebLogic server is on a RHEL 5 box. I based my client largely on code in the example here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/DotNetSamlPost.aspx (the source has a section for SAML 1.1). I set up WebLogic based on instructions for SAML Destination Site from here:http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/dev2arch/2006/12/sso-with-saml4.html I created a certificate using makecert that came with VS 2005. makecert -r -pe -n "CN=whatever" -b 01/01/2010 -e 01/01/2011 -sky exchange whatever.cer -sv whatever.pvk pvk2pfx.exe -pvk whatever.pvk -spc whatever.cer -pfx whatever.pfx Then I installed the .pfx to my personal certificate directory, and installed the .cer into the WebLogic SAML Identity Asserter V2. I read on another site that formatting the response to be readable (ie, adding whitespace) to the response after signing would cause this problem, so I tried various combinations of turning on/off .Indent XMLWriterSettings and turning on/off .PreserveWhiteSpace when loading the XML document, and none of it made any difference. I've printed the SignatureValue both before the message is is encoded/sent and after it arrives/gets decoded, and they are the same. So, to be clear: the Response appears to be formed, encoded, sent, and decoded fine (I see the full Response in the WebLogic logs). WebLogic finds the certificate I want it to use, verifies that a key was supplied, gets the signed info, and then fails to validate the signature.   I'm trying to learn how to code a website algorithm like Reddit.com where there are thousands of posts that need to be ranked. Their ranking algorithm works like this (you don't have to read it, its more of a general question that I have): http://amix.dk/blog/post/19588 Right now I have posts stored in a database, I record their dates and they each have an upvotes and downvotes field so I'm storing their records. I want to figure out how do you store their rankings? When specific posts have ranking values, but they change with time, how could you store their rankings? If they aren't stored, do you rank every post every time a user loads the page? When would you store the posts? Do you run a cron job to automatically give every post a new value every x minutes? Do you store their value? Which is temporary. Maybe, until that post reaches its minimum score and is forgotten?

  I'm building a mobile web-app. One of the requirements from my client is that the user should be able to install (through App Store) a program that displays the webpage. I'm thinking of either just displaying a UIWebView with the web-page or opening the webpage in the browser. This would be my first experience with App Store, so I'd like to ask: Would I run into any troubles regarding acceptance in App Store for such "just-show-whatever-the-server-gives-me" application?

• Adding iPod Support to (previously) iPhone Only App

  When I started on my current project, there was already an App in the App Store. This App was iPhone only. My first task was to test and build a version that also ran on an iPod Touch. About 3 weeks ago Apple removed the option on iTunes connect to set the device requirements. And sent an email out to all developers: "The App Store requires that you provide metadata about your application before submitting it. While most of this metadata is specified using the iPhone Developer Program Portal, the process for selecting device-related dependencies in iTunes Connect is no longer available. Instead, if your app relies on features that are specific to a device, such as the compass on iPhone 3GS, add the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities key to your app's Info.plist file to indicate the specific hardware feature required." When I compiled the iPod compatible version I set the device requirements (UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities) in the info.plist to: location-services (gps or skyhook) wi-fi (any device) However, as the App was originally uploaded and the option for "iPhone only" set in iTunes connect this appears to be the default. The kicker is, because Apple have removed this feature there is no way to change it! Has anyone come up against this problem? And how did you solve it? Is it possible I have incorrect values in UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities? UPDATE: The app will run fine on a iPod Touch if installed as a development version via Xcode. The problem is on the App Store it is listed as iPhone only and when iPod Touch users search in the App store no results are returned.

• Cannot use await in Portable Class Library for Win 8 and Win Phone 8

  I'm attempting to create a Portable Class Library in Visual Studio 2012 to be used for a Windows 8 Store app and a Windows Phone 8 app. I'm getting the following error: 'await' requires that the type 'Windows.Foundation.IAsyncOperation' have a suitable GetAwaiter method. Are you missing a using directive for 'System'? At this line of code: StorageFolder guidesInstallFolder = await Package.Current.InstalledLocation.GetFolderAsync(guidesFolder); My Portable Class Library is targeted at .NET Framework 4.5, Windows Phone 8 and .NET for Windows Store apps. I don't get this error for this line of code in a pure Windows Phone 8 project, and I don't get it in a Windows Store app either so I don't understand why it won't work in my PCL. The GetAwaiter is an extension method in the class WindowsRuntimeSystemExtensions which is in System.Runtime.WindowsRuntime.dll. Using the Object Browser I can see this dll is available in the .NET for Windows Store apps component set and in the Windows Phone 8 component set but not in the .NET Portable Subset. I just don't understand why it wouldn't be in the Portable Subset if it's available in both my targeted platforms.

• Using SSL and SslStream for peer to peer authentication?

  I need to provide secure communication between various processes that are using TCP/IP sockets for communication. I want both authentication and encryption. Rather than re-invent the wheel I would really like to use SSL and the SslStream class and self-signed certificates. What I want to do is validate the remote process's certificate against a known copy in my local application. (There doesn't need to be a certificate authority because I intend for the certificates to be copied around manually). To do this, I want the application to be able to automatically generate a new certifiate the first time it is run. In addition to makecert.exe, it looks like this link shows a way to automatically generate self-signed certificates, so that's a start. I've looked at the AuthenticateAsServer and AuthenticateAsClient methods of SslStream. You can provide call-backs for verification, so it looks like it's possible. But now that I'm into the details of it, I really don't think it's possible to do this. Am I going in the right direction? Is there a better alternative? Has anyone done anything like this before (basically peer-to-peer SSL rather than client-server)?

• iPhone Custom CA certificate for an application which uses NSURLConnection?

  I have an application which is communicating with many different sites and each site has its own SSL certificate signed by our own internal CA. Doing this prevents us the need from purchasing SSL certificates for each site (hundreds or thousands) and is more secure then using a wildcard certificate with a shared key on each of those sites. So, basically using a CA certificate is the only way. Right now, I have a mobileprovision file which will install the CA certificate as a profile on the phone. When our iPhone application launches if it gets an SSL Certificate error it redirects to a this mobile provision file via Safari and the user will be prompted to install the CA. The problem is that I am concerned that the Apple AppStore might deny my app for doing this (Just some feedback from other developers at this point), and I wanted to research other ways to accomplish this. Basically what I need to accomplish is allow an SSL connection which will verify against a custom CA certificate which will be embedded in my application. This will make the CA certificate active for only the calls I make. I am using the standard NSURLConnection methods in order to communicate with the service. Is this possible? Can someone show me how to load the CA (what form PEM?) and add it to the list of trusted CA certificates for my application? If that is not possible what other options do I have? Just trusting all certificates isn't really any option, we want to prevent man in the middle attacks and only trust our CA issued certificates. Thanks!

• Need help setting up a truststore's chain of authority (in Tomcat)

  Lead in ... I'm not an expert, by far, in application security via SSL, but am trying to establish a test environment that includes all possible scenarios we may encounter in production. For this I have a tree of Certificate Authorities (CAs) that are the issuers of an assortment of test client certificates, and node/server certificates (complex test environment representing the various published web services and other applications we integrate with). The structure of these CAs are as follows: Root CA, which has signed/issued Sub CA1, Sub CA2, and Sub CA3. These subs have then signed/issued all certificates of those various nodes and clients in the environment. Now for the question .... In my application's truststore I would like to trust everything signed by Sub CA1, and Sub CA2, but not Sub CA3 (untrusted). Does this mean my truststore should (1) ONLY include Sub CA1 and Sub CA2, or (2) should it include Root CA, Sub CA1, and Sub CA2? I don't know what is the proper way to represent this trust chain in a truststore. In the future I would also like to add a Sub CA4 (also signed/issued by the Root CA), but add that to a Certificate Revocation List (CRL) for testing purposes. Ahead of time, thank you for any help concerning this. It's greatly appreciated.

  I downloaded garageband from mac app store but something happend with my internet connection - probably connection crashed - and downloading (or installing) stopped. When apps instalation didnt start, then I cklicked on install button at Mac AppStore. In Launchpad was created new icon of garageband which was downloaded again and internet connection crashed again.   I don't keep up with hardware much, so would appreciate any tips on what would be a good touch-enabled laptop that I could use for both development and testing of Windows 8 ("Metro"/Store) apps. Is there even such an animal (a touch-centric laptop)? Or will I need to use a laptop for development (in which case I might be able to upgrade my RC version of Windows 8 on my existing laptop to RTM) and purchase a tablet for testing?

• Computer Science Programming Certificate vs. Computer Science Degree?

  I'm kind of in a tough spot. My current living conditions require that I work a full-time job while attending school. I've attended a UC in the past but had to withdraw my junior year due to financial issues at home. I currently work an entry-level IT corp job but I'm looking to further my salary/skills by getting a degree, or a programming certificate like this one: http://www.lavc.edu/voced1/CSITCertCSP/CSITCertFrameCSP.htm Herein lies the problem. I prefer getting a CS degree from an accredited university but I looked at the schedules for classes and it is impossible to work around my current 40/hr work week. There are random morning classes, with the occasional evening class, but the times get even more construed as I move my way up to the upper divisions. So what I guess I'm trying to get at is, can anyone lay out the pros and cons of obtaining a certificate vs. the degree (besides obvious points like the latter being 100x better)? I'm aware that having a degree is always going to be a better route, but...is the programming certificate useless? Should I not even bother?
