• Lenovo ThinkServer TS130 1105 - does 32/64 depend on RAM?

  Just got in a Lenovo ThinkServer TS130 1105 (Xeon E3-1225V1) and a (new, sealed, holographed, looks legit) copy of Windows Server 2008 32/64 (standard) to run on it for a pretty lightweight job (currently handled, adequately, by a terrifyingly old Optima P4 running Windows 2000 server - really lightweight, but long-past-due for replacement, without any particular need or excuse for server 2012...) The 64 bit disc sits there and does nothing. The 32 bit disc boots. I haven't spotted any mention of this in the TS130 Manual (I have now combed it, and find no mention of a need to populate in pairs - a preferred order to populate in, yes, but no mention of pairs being required) but I begin to wonder if it's due to the fact that the 4GB RAM suppled with it was a single DIMM, rather than a pair. Better for upgrading, but perhaps requiring an upgrade (or sidegrade) right away to install the x64 version?? Anyone know? I tried the 64-bit DVD on a desktop with an AMD Athlon II X4 635 processor which normally runs Windows7 in 64 bit, and it booted up just fine.

  Hey, I want to create a server for my website since what I'm going to have on the website is far more than I can store web hotel. So I have this xp computer I'd like to use as a server. I did have a guide of this but unfortunately the link broke. But what i understood was that I'd be in need of a windows 2000 disc for this to work.   Environment: - Oracle 10g database over a windows 32bit 2003 server - SQL 2005 database over a windows 32 bit 2003 server. I am trying to connect the above databases through heterogeneous services. I have updated the following files: TNSNames.ora, Listener.ora and hs.ora. When performing a test connection from SQL developer, I get the following error - ORA 28500 - indicating that the login for SA user is incorrect. I also tried using another authenticated user that has rights to the database. I can successfully connect with SQL 2000. Has anyone experienced such a problem before?

• LSB Script: how do i know if something goes wrong?

  How do I know if a LSB script fails to load or where do I check the log of the lsbs scripts? I added two scripts with the following command: update-rc.d scriptname defaults And just one launches the things I need. It does not seem to be a script error since if I launch it with /etc/init.d/scriptname it works. • Export policy configuration from eTrust ITM 8.1

  Hi everyone. Currently we are using the Enterprise AV Solution eTrust ITM 8.1. The licenses are running out in october and we are going to replace eTrust with another AV solution. The eTrust Server is running on Windows Server 2003 SP2 with an MS SQL 2000 Standard Edition. The problem is that we've got many different policy - sets which we have to redefine in the new AV solution. Is there any way with eTrust ITM 8.1 to export the different policies as csv, pdf ... whatever?   I make an dhcp server on CentOS, and i apply a mac filter for my clients. Now, with a small number of clients (max 10) ,is not that hard, but what I will do with 2000 clients? My idea was to create a list (ex. "macfilter.lst") and this list, to be updated after a database. I have tow questions. First: How do i create a filter in IPTABLES that takes info`s from a file (file hosted on server) Second: Any idea about how to write a script, that update a file after a database??   I need help for the below mentioned scenario: A Dot-matrix printer is physically connected to the Linux machine ( e.g. Ubuntu-10.04 , it can be any unix/linux flavour) From this linux machine, when I take a RDP to the Windows NT-4.0 TS, I run the DOS-based application. Now I want to print few pages from this DOS-based application to the Ubuntu's printer, When I am in RDP-Session. When I followed the samba-printing documentation, I am able to print from GUI-based apps like Notepad, MS WORD and so forth; but not able to print from the command prompt of Windows. Any idea how to do this ? [ WINDOWS MACHINE IS STRICTLY NT-4.0 2000 TS ]

• PackageForTheWeb "should not be executed directly"

  When trying to install package (specifically, chipset drivers for Nexcom PEAK-series computer, but I guess it doesn't really matters) I get "PackageForTheWeb Error" saing "This program is used internally by PackageFromTheWeb. It should not be executed directly." I get this error on both Windows 2000 (where it should be installed) and Windows 7. The original driver CD was lost long time ago, so the package was downloaded from the Nexcom website, found no info about installer prerequisites there. What should I install (or anything else) to install this package? UPD: I found a solution - unpacked the package and executed setup.exe that was inside. But I'm pretty sure it's not an action supposed by vendor, so answers are still welcome.

• Why aren't my old DLL's running with my app pool in 32bit mode?

  I am moving my websites from a server 2003x86 environment to a server 2008x64. the 2008 server is using iis 7.5 and the app pool I am using is configured for 32bit mode. I get an error 'Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3' Server.createObject failed.' I beleive that it is in the DLL's that all the ASP sites point to. My programmers, as usual, say it isn't code or the DLL's. Am I missing something to make these old DLL's work? By the way these sites are connecting to a SQL 2000 Database.

• gmail download by POP3 won't download all emails. How to reset all emails to not downloaded so that ALL will download?

  I want to download emails from gmail using POP3 with Outlook Express. It downloads about 350 or so emails but doesn't download the remainder - there are over 2000 emails. The emails downloaded are not recent. I've tried disabling and re-enabling POP options in the settings in gmail itself but this doesn't fix the issue. Any ideas? Failing that I would use IMAP. I would try to then copy it locally on my machine to the standard POP Inbox folder in Outlook Express so that Express Archiver (a separate program) can then archive each email as a file with meaningful file names (e.g. subject, sender). I want to download email because I archive back it up with project work material it relates to, so it is all in one place.

  I am currently studying for an A-Plus certification to which was recently added troubleshooting Windows 7 to the exam. You also have to be very familiar with Vista as well. I only have XP on my Compaq Presario V2000, but I wanted to set it up ( I believe I have the minimum requirements for both ) so that I could run trial versions of Vista and 7 virtually.Windows 2000 is also on the exam. • How can I fix a date that changes by 4 years and 1 day when pasted between Excel workbooks

  In Excel dates are represented internally by a floating point number where the integer part is the number of days since "some date" and the fractional part is how far into that day (hence the time). You can see this if you change the format of a date - like 4/10/2009 to a number 39905. But when pasting a date between two different workbooks the date shifts by 4 years and one day!!! In other words "some date" is different between the two workbooks. In one workbook the number 0.0 represents 1/0/1900 and in the other 0.0 represents 1/1/1904. Where is this set and is it controllable? Or does this represent a corrupted file? These workbooks where originally from Excel 2000 but have been worked on now in Excel 2007 and Excel 2003. I can demonstrate the problem between the two workbook files in both 2003 and 2010. The exact history of when they were created or what versions of Excel have been used on each is unknown.

• Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

• UsrClass.dat does not load, any ideas on what to check?

  I have an odd problem where one of my users' UsrClass.dat hive does not load, which causes .NET ClickOnce applications to fail to start. They are one of several users on a Windows 2000 terminal server, all the others have no problem. Nothing is mentioned in any logs. I can manually load the hive to the correct HKEY_USERS\..._Classes location using REGEDT32, which works around the problem, but I've no idea what could be causing this in the first place. Any ideas what to check here, or any diagnostic tools or procedures that would help?

• How to set a theme for Windows XP to use before a use logs in?

  If Windows XP "welcome screen" is disabled (manually or by joining a domain) an ordinary window is used to log-in (like it was in Windows 2000). This window is styled with default Windows XP "Luna" theme (blue window title, etc). All theme customizations (including turning them off at all to use plain Win2000/98 window style) are normally applied after a user logs-in. How can I alter this? I'd like either to turn off visual styles at all or to apply "Zune" styling to BEFORE a user logs in (and it'd be good to use the same settings as default for new users created).

• Recommendations for a cloud/hosted server environment that can run different Windows VMs?

  I currently have a colocated Win 2008 server that I use for hosting different windows VMs for testing: Win 2008, Win XP, Vista, Win7, Win 2000. I'd like to ditch the server and use something like Amazone AWS but the key thing is I need to be able to launch VMs for these different windows versions. AWS doesn't allow this currently. Can anyone recommend somewhere that I could use? The main reasons I want to get away from my own server are: administration: backup, windows updates, etc space: disk limitations mean I can't have all the VMs I want. I'd like to be able to pay for space incrementally. I'll typically only run 1-3 at a time but want lots of snapshots of different machines.

• Create/rename a file/folder that begins with a dot in Windows?

  Many programs needs folder names that starts with a dot, like .emacs.d, .gimp-2.2, .jedit etc. How do I create such a folder? When using the Windows Explorer in Windows 2000 (and other versions), I get an error message saying "You have to enter a filename". The only solution I have come up with, is to open a command prompt (Start, Run, "CMD", OK) and enter "mkdir .mydir". Why have Microsoft this error message in the Explorer, but not in the command shell? Is there any registry hack out there to fix this, so that I am able to enter the folder name directly in the Explorer?

• Sending a large number of mails causing problems on CentOS 6 / Plesk 10

  I have a VPS running CentOS 6. When the system tries to send daily newsletter, after some time (e.g. after sending about 2000 emails), I get error "Unable to send mail" and the system memory goes really high. Till this moment, the mails are delivered normally. The rest symptoms are: I cannot see anything on /var/log/maillog (File seems not to be written) All files on /var/spool/mail have 0 bytes size. From time to time on httpd log I get errors like: /usr/sbin/sendmail: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 23 "Activate mail service on domain" setting in Plesk is deactivated. Any idea on what's going wrong here?

• Replacing old server with new but different hostname & same IP

  We have an old server 2000 and lots of users point to it by hostname and by its IP e.g \\server1, we have a new server 2008 R2 with new name serverlocation1 All folders and data have been sync'toy'd from the old server1 across to serverlocation1 each evening, the new server tree is exactly the same on the new server and all perms are correct. We need to make the new server the same IP as the old server1 as too many people access it directly via IP, and to ensure file and folder paths stay ok, anything \\server1\folder\file needs to go to \\newserverlocation1\folder\file etc I can change the old server1 name to server1-old & change IP and assign the old IP to the new server, but how do I force anything coming in for \\server1 to go to the new server and ensure anything referenced to the old server goes onto the new server ? I can CNAME but I need the new server to have the IP of the previous server so not sure if its straight forward etc..... point server1 to newserverlocation1 Then probably change DNS so that the OLD IP points to new hostname..... Any clarification appreciated.

• Running two Magentos installations, one of which has 3 stores set up as multi-store. Which server?

  I want to run 4 Magento stores in 2 different installations. 1 is a standalonne installation with 3 languages. The other is a multi-store with 3 different online stores in different domains. At the moment we have a VPS with 1GB memory, would that be enough? I ask because I've finished the standalone store and already put it online, and the server is already running on 62% memory. The ideal would be that this is enough as my company wouldn't like to move to a Dedicated Server (as it involves costs). I'm sure I can try to optimize Magento to run on lower memory (I'm expecting visits averaging 2000/day on all sites), if I could have some tips on the best way to do that Id appreciate it too.

• Error connecting to the application.

  Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?
