  • UnicodeDecodeError when redirecting to file

    Hi, I run this snippet twice, in the ubuntu terminal, (encoding set to utf-8) once with ./test.py and then with ./test.py >out.txt: uni = u"\u001A\u0BC3\u1451\U0001D10C" print uni Without redirection it prints garbage. With redirection I get a UnicodeDecodeError. Can someone explain why I get the error only in the second case, or even better give a detailed explanation of what's going on behind the curtain in both cases?

But when I try to visit that project through apache, it fails.     I want to write an emacs function that does the following - 1) Start a new shell named "abc". 2) Change the dir "/opt/abc" 3) In the dir run a shell command "python abc.py" I have written the following fucntion - (defun abc-server () (interactive) (shell-command "cd /opt/abc/") (shell-command "python abc.py")) The problem with the above - 1) It doesnt start a new shell 2) It doesnt change the dir. 3) When the cmd executes, it opens a browser window, which completely blocks any usage of emacs.

    Much like Java (or php), I'm use to seperating the classes to files. Is it the same deal in Python? plus, how should I name the file? Lowercase like classname.py or the same like ClassName.py? Do I need to do something special if I want to create an object from this class or does the fact that it's in the same "project" (netbeans) makes it ok to create an object from it?

And if I kill cmd, the child dies too- no "yeah.txt" is created. How do I make ensure the child continues to run even if parent is killed and also that the parent doesn't wait for child process to end?

    Experienced Java programmer trying to learn Python. I have an applicaiton on Google App Engine and want to move my admin Handlers to a separate file. So now I have main.py and admin.py. I've set up app.yaml to route traffic properly, and have added the call to WSGIApplication() in each file to route to the appropriate Handler.   • Jython 'unknown enocoding ms932' on japanese system

    i've written a program in Jython 2.5.1 which works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but on a japanese machine it throws an Exception saying "unknown encoding 'ms932'" i found that codecs.java is the only module printing the unknown encoding 'xyz' message this file loads aliases.py which does contain # cp932 codec '932' : 'cp932', 'ms932' : 'cp932', 'mskanji' : 'cp932', 'ms_kanji' : 'cp932', The file cp932.py contains import _codecs_jp, codecs But.. _codecs_jp does not exist as is also discussed in this page Does anyone have a clue where to go from here ? http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/8tc1Zc2rV3qiUcy9zPlA

    When I run my python script in the shell terminal, it works sudo myscript.py --version=22 --base=252 --hosts="{'hostA':[1],'hostB':[22]}" But when I run in Hudson and Jenkins, using Execute Shell step, somehow, the string --hosts="{'hostA':[1],'hostB':[22]}" is interpreted as sudo myscript.py --version=22 --base=252 '--hosts="{'hostA':[1],'hostB':[22]}"' How do we overcome this so that our script would run in Jenkins and Hudson ?   • Blank black screen with cursor after login -- RHEL5

    I have a RHEL 5 machine here which is a Dell Precision T3500. I'm an Ubuntu guy, but I'm having a heck of a time with this machine. After processing its first security update, we cannot log in via the gdm greeter. A new kernel was installed; then I installed the nVidia drivers for our Quadro NVS 295. I know the X configuration is valid because the gdm greeter does display; however, upon login all we can get is a blank, black screen with a cursor. I thought perhaps our python installation was corrupted but a reinstall via yum has not helped. I have searched & googled extensively for a potential fix for this and can find nothing. Below are outputs from uname, a tail of an error in /var/log/messages, and the Xorg.conf. Can anyone suggest a course of action?
