  Why won't my logon scripts map drives under Windows 7? I'm using a vb script similar to the one below, the script runs using a group policy. Dim WshNetwork Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network") WshNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "g:", "\\\Saturn\data\" WshNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "k:", "\\\Saturn\stuff\" Works fine for Windows XP. Update: Copying the script locally and running it runs fine so I suspect the Group Policy isn't running the script on Windows 7. Many thanks Steve

• Should laptops remain plugged in when their battery is 100% charged?

  I've been hearing mixed responses to this, so would like to hear the final answer. When your laptop's battery is 100% charged, should you leave it plugged in so any battery power doesn't get used, or will that cause overcharging, overheating. etc? Should the laptop be unplugged when battery is 100%? I'm asking because my laptop's screen tends to get dim when unplugged, so I don't like to run it on battery. (Any fixes to this would also be helpful.)

• After my laptop wakes up from sleeping/hibernating, the LCD/brightness is very low. How can I set it to default?

  In Power Management Preferences, On AC Power tab, I have brightness to 100%. "Dim display when idle" is not checked. I know for sure my LCD brightness is capable of going higher, because if I hit Fn and F7 then it resets the monitor brightness and settings for a few seconds, but the resolution breaks and then the brightness goes back. PS: OS is Debian Lenny ( I set the tags but for clarification ) and laptop is a Thinkpad.

  I have a Samsung SyncMaster T190 LCD monitor which I've had for about 5 years. It hissed slightly then went dim (readable but the top half of the screen is less bright). I'm pretty sure that after 5 years of service it's just got to the point where something's burned out, so my question is can I repair this myself, or should I just get a new monitor. I'm currently a student so self repair would be a better option if cost effective.

  Trying to get my head around removing dataStore access from my entity classes. Lets say I have an AccountsGroup entity class. I put the all DBAccess into AccountsGroupRepository class. Now should I have a DeleteFromDB method in the AccountsGroup class, that will call the repository? Public Sub DeleteFromDB dim repository as new AccountsGroupRepository(me) repository.DelteFromDB End Sub Or should I just always use repositry whenever I need to delete an entity, and not have the CRUD methods in the entity class? What happens when there is some business logic validation that needs to be done before the delete can proceed. For example if AccountsGroup still has some Accounts in it the delete method should throw an exception. Where do I put that?

  The company I work for uses vb.net since there are many programmers who moved up from vb6 to vb.net. Basically more vb.net resources in the company for support/maintenance vs c#. I am a c# coder and was wondering if I could just continue coding in c# and just use the many online free c# to vb.net code convertors. That way, I will be more productive and also be more marketable since there are more c# jobs compared to vb.net jobs. I have done vb6 many years ago and I am comfortable debugging vb.net code. Jobinesh has even published some extra chapters online that will give you a good taste of what to expect.  If you're interested in positive reviews, the ADF EMG already has it's first happy customer. Now to see if I can get Oracle to expense me a copy.

  I do not want my laptop to change brightness when my laptop power is plugged in or unplugged. I set my brightness based on how bright my surroundings are. If I am in a dark room, I set my brightness very low and when I plug my laptop in the brightness gets set to maximum which feels like sticking my eyes in boiling lava. In System Settings ?   I'm just tired of making a big SQL statement, test it, and then paste the SQL into the code and adding all the sqlstmt.append(" at the beginning and the ") at the end. It's 2011, isn't there a better way the handle a big chunk of strings inside code? Please: don't suggest stored procedures or ORMs. edit Found the answer using XML literals and CData. Thanks to all the people that actually tried to answer the question without questioning me for not using ORM, SPs and using VB edit 2 the question leave me thinking that languages could try to make a better effort for using inline SQL with color syntax, etc. It will be cheaper that developing Linq2SQL. Just something like: dim sql = <sql> SELECT * ... </sql>

• How to prevent Ubuntu from changing screen brightness?

  I have recently installed 12.04 on ASUS-K53SV-V300. I can change the brightness on start-up with: echo 0 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness >> /etc/rc.local or manually by Fn key. But, whenever Ubuntu dim my screen brightness to save power or wake-up from suspend or inactive for 20-30 seconds, brightness reset to high (my problem get much more when on battery). How can I disable screen brightness service to prevent it from changing my brightness? What service work on screen brightness? If I disable this service, can I manually set brightness by command? I found a program to work on brightness instead of default power manager.

  Like a lot of folks I am using SSMS and VS pretty much all day. But staring at the text on the stark white background can be a bit much for my eyes after a while. I have seen quite a few different “themes” for these apps which change all the colors around to make it easier on your eyes. Some of them are pretty cool but all I really wanted was to dim the background a little not radically change the way everything looked. Since the stock colors for comments, breakpoints, keywords and the like are so familiar I wanted a background that did not interfere with those colors. So I picked the following custom color for the item background. It comes off as a parchment type color. Hue: 42        Red: 244 Sat: 123    Green: 245 Lum: 221    Blue: 224

• Change the brightness adjustment interval

  So whenever I hit my dim/brighten keys on the keyboard, a notification bubble pops up with the screen brightness. All that's fine, but I would like to be able to change how much the brightness changes with each key press. For example, right now it takes just 5 presses to go from the completely dark to the brightest setting. However, I know from the "Brightness/Lock" setting that the screen is capable of much smaller intervals than this. Is there a way to change how much the brightness jumps each time the keys are pressed?

  I am using VB.net to write a parallel based code. I use Parallel.For to generate pairs of 500 objects or in combination C(500,2) such as the following code; but I found that it didn't always generate all combinations which should be 124750 (shown from variable Counter). No other thread was runing when this code was run. I am using a Win-7 32 Bit desktop with Intel Core i5 CPU [email protected], 3.33 GHz and RAM 2GB. • Programatically loading user controls

  Today's little problem is that I am trying to load user controls from my codebehind like so: Dim myControl As UserControl = Page.LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx")              Controls.Add(myControl)  On running the page myControl is no where to be seen. I wonder why that is? Well after a bit of thought the following come to mind... Am I using the correct code to insert the usercontrol? Is there an alternative available? Does the fact that the usercontrol has a page_load method make a difference? Does the fact that the usercontrol is being called from the page_init method make a difference? Do I need to register the control in my aspx page at design time? I'll be looking to answer these questions as the day goes on!

• Adjust brightness and contrast?

  I have an acer aspire as5750. With the intel hd 3000 graphics. When i use the adjustment function keys the dial moves but it doesn't translate to the screen diming. Same with the dial in linux settings. Also in colour settings it seems there is no colour file or icc profile available for this laptop. Do you think if i can get a working icc profile then it will fix this or not? I have found something that could work:Argyll but it looks complicated to use, has anyone here used it? Would it allow me to dim? Or is there any other work around? I have searched lots but can't find a solution.

I know that it's C++ style. and Dim A as String it have to be Visual Basic. [?1] I'm not able to detect like that in ASP.Net. How do they different in codes? I use Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition.I like to use C# (I also was learned VisualBasic in shool, but I don't like him). • Graphics problems: noise-like glitch, and screen freezes in Ubuntu 13.04

  I have recently upgraded to 13.04 and am using unity. I am experiencing two intermittent problems with the graphics: 1) All or part of the screen is taken up by 'noise', which lasts for about a second, see screenshot: 2) The launcher panel freezes. I can still move the mouse and the keyboard responds to function keys (I can dim the screen), but I cannot select anything. At the moment I recover by ctr-alt-f1, and restarting lightdm. My computer is a Samsung Chronos 7 laptop, model NP700Z5C, with Intel HD 4000 graphics The same problems occur with lightdm and gdm. I have attempted to install the intel drivers (as the screenshot hints) but these are not indicated as additional drivers in software & updates so I'm not sure whether they are in use. Any suggestions?
