  • Website and file/directory permissions

    I've been given a task to fix this one website. One of its issues is that on one page, the images have broken links - the images are not showing, and clicking on the image (i.e. direct link to the image file) results in a 403 (Forbidden) error. I am looking for some feedback on what could be the possible cause. The directory where the images are stored has the following permissions: drwxrws--- www "group" 10240 Aug 2008 "image directory name" I had to hide the names. I checked the page source code, and everything seems to be in place. The rest of the site, and other images outside that image directory are showing fine. I was told that recently there have been some changes to the server. I'm trying to assume that there is no fault in the source code, and the permissions are - or used to be - correct (since the site has been working before, and no recent changes to the site itself have been made). My only thoughts at the moment is that either: a) the directory permission should be: drwxrws--x (executable) for the other users, or b) there is a change in the server settings that I don't know of. Is there anything else I should check?

  • "No such file or directory"?

    Ok, so I have a VDS laying around, and I thought I would turn it into a TF2 game server. When I connect to my server through PuTTY, and use wget to download the package "hldsupdatetool.bin" from Steampowered.com. I go to run it and it says "No such file or directory found". When I use "ls" to see what files are in directory, it lists "hldsupdatetool.bin" as being in the directory. So, why is it saying it's not there? This has been a headache for the past 2 days. However, I cant seem to get it working on a Vista SP1 machines I have. Does anyone know how to install ADLDS on Vista SP1 or is it the case that there is nothing like ADLDS / ADAM for Vista SP1? The download page for Windows6.0-KB975540-x64.msu does not clearly define this.

    I am unable to get excel 2010 beta to save to a directory which contains square brackets. I have to save elsewhere and copy in. Is there any workaround? Was this a problem with older versions?     I've managed to configure my test Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 Server VM to accept logins (via ssh) from users who have domain accounts in active directory via Kerberos, nsswitch.conf and PAM configurations. The final thing I'd like to happen is locating their home directory on a Windows server share. Each domain account ($USER) has a windows share ala: \\winsrvr\users\$USER. Can someone push me in the direction I need to go?

    If I have 'export BLA="hey there"' in .profile in my home directory, how can I change this later in other directories just by cd into the other directory? Also, is there a way to just set a new environment variable when I cd into a directory. My first attempt was to just make another .bashrc file in the directory where I want the change but apparently that proved less than effective. I'm on OS X btw.

    I have a Smarty template located in a directory under templates_dir: templates/some/dir/template.tpl . In the same directory, I have a sub-template: templates/some/dir/_component.tpl . I can't include the sub-component using an unqualified include, since apparently it looks it up under the templates_dir: {include file='_component.tpl'} How can I tell Smarty to read the file from the same directory, as opposed to the templates root ? I do not want to specify absolute paths, since it will cause problems when changing directory structures.
