Weird Rails URL issue when rendering a new action

I am rendering a new action but somehow getting the "index" URL. To be more specific, my create action looks like this: class ListingsController < ApplicationController def create @listing = Listing.new(params[:listing]) @listing.user = @current_user if @listing.save redirect_to @listing else flash[:error] = "There were errors" render :action => "new" end end end When there are errors, I get the "new" action but my URL is the index URL - http://domain.com/listings Anyone know why this would happen? Programatically prevent ASP .NET AJAX scripts from rendering

Does anyone know of a way that I can stop all the .NET AJAX scripts from rendering, even if a ScriptManager exists on the page? The ScriptManager's Visible property has been overridden and disabled so that you receive a NotImplementedException if you try to set the Visible property. The reason I would like to do this is that I don't want these large chunks of javascript all over my pages when they are not required. The ScriptManager needs to be included on the master page to ensure that only one ScriptManager is added, but it would be stupid to to have to have two versions of the same master page - one ajax enabled and one not. Edit: I am actually using Telerik's RadScriptManager with RadAjax, in case anyone knows a method using these classes instead.

Approaching this case with ABDPDF

We have ABCPDF 8 available to work with for this case. We need to rebuild an existing PDF with markup and texts in it with text that comes from a CMS. What we basicly want to do is use an existing PDF and replace blocks of text and images with the ones our content editors specify in Sitecore. I have been looking at the documentation of ABCPDF but it's kind of overwelming at this point, cause it's the first time I'm trying to do anything with dynamically building a PDF. I found that it's possible to read text from an existing PDF document using the .GetText(""); method. This Method will accept 4 parameters and I've tried the SVG one (returns xml). When I load the xml in an XmlDocument I find that alot of textblocks which I assumed to be one block of text is split up in different parts. Font choices in International scenarios: multilingual vs unicode

I have a website that will eventually display multiple languages. I notice the common fonts used in web CSS (ex: Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, Tahoma) and even the newer Vista/Office 2007/VS2008 fonts (Calibri,Cambria, Candara, Corbel, etc) are significantly larger (~350K) than your average (US only?) TTF font (~50k) so these fonts contain most/all the major character sets that common languages (Spanish, French, German, etc) use. My question is, would somebody confirm that these fonts listed above are acceptable for international use of the major (let's say top 8) spoken languages? If so, then I'm guessing the only purpose of unicode fonts; such "Arial Unicode" (a massive 22mb) is only for dealing with extremely niche dialog, eastern glyphs (Chinese, Japanese) and dead languages? I'm just looking for some confirmation from developers that have their desktop apps/web apps rendering multiple languages and have a visual confirmation, I'm already in the 99% sure bin but you know what they say about assumption.

Problems rendering pages in FF and IE

I am having a constant trouble with pages not rendering correctly between FF and IE. not my code below. "Select an Account" should be next to the drop down such as: Select an Account Type: "then my form" however my form goes to the next line when I want it next to "Select an Account". Rendering splash screen on the iPhone using Open GL ES

Hi, I want to render a splash screen on the iPhone whilst using an Open GL view. The iPhone screen as we know is 320x480, which is not a power of 2. Before I enter into the world of chopping the texture up and rendering sub parts, or embedding the screen on another texture page I was wondering if there was another way? Is it possible to overlay another view that I could render to using CoreGraphics functions? Or is it possible to render to a Open GL surface using Core Graphics functions. What would you recommend? iPhone transparent images rendering poorly

I'm developing an iPad application. I have been provided with a PNG image that contains some transparency - basically a drop shadow. The problem I'm having is that this is rendering poorly within the application, both on the device and in the sim. I can't provide the whole image but I've made up some samples to illustrate. The first is how the image appears in the PSD (correctly that is). The second is how it appears on the device. You can see that the strip of shadow in the middle of the image is distinctly more yellow and poorly looking. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Rendering inconsistencies in Internet Explorer

Hello, I have some weird problem in rendering some xhtml in IE 8 http://img709.imageshack.us/i/scrj.png/. Here is the screenshot. As shown the greet me submit button is higher than the text field. Which is kind of odd. I checked with some other browsers and it works fine, it also works fine on Windows 7 with IE 8. How should I think about perspectives and rotation in OpenGL ES?

As I start to write rendering code, how do I want to consider my drawing operations? Will they always be relative to a fixed coordinate system on the screen, or does this change based on the camera perspective? The best example I can try to come up with is say I'm at (0,0,0) and I draw a line to (3,3,3). If I change the perspective +1 on the X axis and conduct the same operation, does it happen at (4,3,3), or am I just getting a new view of the line still being made at (3,3,3)? When doing rotation, am I moving the point from which a frustum emanates, or am I moving the rendering underneath?

C# PCL rendering into TIFF (or other image format)

I'm looking for the best solution -- and perhaps the cheapest also -- to take PCL5e and PCL6 compliant code and render it into a TIFF image. Reliably. Does anyone have any experience with the PCLTool SDK from PageTech (http://www.pagetech.com/pcl.php)? This looks to be the best I can find, but I'm not sure how flexible it really is. The other options is trying to write my own interface, which would be a BEAST of a project and not one I really want to try to tackle. Any open-source solutions out there? Anyone with a C#/.NET project having success with PCL rendering? If so, how?

measuring a view before rendering it

hello I need to find out how big a view will be after attaching it to its parent. I have overridden this method: onMeasure(int, int); but it looks like this method is invoked only when I actually add my custom view to it's container using: addView(myView); Do you think there is a way to get this information before rendering the view itself? Basically I need to know the actuall size before attaching it and not attach the view at all if it would take more certain amount of space. anybody?

Grails - showing page processing/render debug information in development mode

I've been experimenting with Grails for the past two days and, so far, I'm really happy with it. Coming from Rails, the only thing I've really been missing here is the dev-mode debug information shown after the page has been served. Are these non-standard applications of rendering practical in games?

I've recently got into 3D and I came up with a few different "tricky" rendering techniques. Unfortunately I don't have the time to work on this myself, but I'd like to know if these are known methods and if they can be used in practice. Hybrid rendering Now I know that ray-tracing is still not fast enough for real-time rendering, at least on home computers. I also know that hybrid rendering (a combination of rasterization and ray-tracing) is a well known theory. However I had the following idea: one could separate a scene into "important" and "not important" objects. First you render the "not important" objects using traditional rasterization. In this pass you also render the "important" objects using a special shader that simply marks these parts on the image using a special color, or some stencil/depth buffer trickery. Then in the second pass you read back the results of the first pass and start ray tracing, but only from the pixels that were marked by the "important" object's shader. This would allow you to only ray-trace exactly what you need to. Could this be fast enough for real-time effects? Rendered physics I'm specifically talking about bullet physics - intersection of a very small object (point/bullet) that travels across a straight line with other, relatively slow-moving, fairly constant objects. More specifically: hit detection. My idea is that you could render the scene from the point of view of the gun (or the bullet). Every object in the scene would draw a different color. You only need to render a 1x1 pixel window - the center of the screen (again, from the gun's point of view). Then you simply check that central pixel and the color tells you what you hit. This is pixel-perfect hit detection based on the graphical representation of objects, which is not common in games. Afaik traditional OpenGL "picking" is a similar method. This could be extended in a few ways: For larger (non-bullet) objects you render a larger portion of the screen. If you put a special-colored plane in the middle of the scene (exactly where the bullet will be after the current frame) you get a method that works as the traditional slow-moving iterative physics test as well. You could simulate objects that the bullet can pass through (with decreased velocity) using alpha blending or some similar trick. So are these techniques in use anywhere, and/or are they practical at all?

How can the Ubuntu font be used with LyX or LaTeX?

I use LyX for creating documents and would like to be able to format the output of my documents so that they use the Ubuntu font. In the LyX document settings, it appears that there are only a fixed number of fonts available. Is it possible to add the Ubuntu font to this list? If not, is there a way to use the Ubuntu font in LaTeX? I can export the LyX document to LaTeX, make my changes and then use pdflatex & co. to create a formatted document.

emacs elisp buffer not running font lock mode until opened by user

My problem is I am opening a buffer using (set-buffer (find-tag-noselect (current-word))) and then I try to copy some text out of that buffer. The text that I get back has only the properties (fontified nil). find-tag-noselect automatically opens the buffer found in the TAGS file but it seems it does not run the font lock mode over it. When I manually switch to this buffer after it has been opened and then run the function again when it copies the text it has all the correct text properties attached. So what do I need to do to have this buffer completely initialized so that the correct syntax highlighting will be copied in?

Dump characters (glyphs) from TrueType font (TTF) into bitmaps

I have a custom TrueType font (TTF) that consists of a bunch of icons, which I'd like to render as individual bitmaps (GIF, PNG, whatever) for use on the Web. You'd think this is a simple task, but apparently not? There is a huge slew of TTF-related software here: http://cg.scs.carleton.ca/~luc/ttsoftware.html But it's all varying levels of "not quite what I want", broken links and/or hard to impossible to compile on a modern Ubuntu box -- eg. dumpglyphs (C++) and ttfgif (C) both fail to compile due to obscure missing dependencies. Any ideas?

AS3 Font embedding problem in ComboBox on a loaded movie clip

Hi all, I have three movie clips, say, LoaderMC, ChildMC1, and ChildMC2. ChildMC1 has TLFTextfields in it with embedded fonts. ChildMC2 has both TLFTextfields as well as combo boxes.(with embedded fonts) When I compile those movieclips separately, I can view the combo box texts without any problem. If I load the ChildMC1 and ChildMC2 into the LoaderMC, the texts doesn't appear at all on both TLFtextfields and Combo Boxes. I tried embedding the fonts in the LoaderMC, then, TLFTextfields was able to show the texts but still the ComboBoxes couldn't display the text. If I don't embed the fonts in the combo box, I can able to view the texts. What could be the problem? I read an article which says, "No one has completely understood the font embedding in flash AS3, we just have to do trial and error, to get it done" I don't know how far it is true, but in my case it seems, I should agree! Please help me...

Spreadsheet ML Text Color (Colour) Rendering

Hi All, I am writing a tool which generates some Spreadsheet ML (XML) to create an Excel spreadsheet for my users. I have defined a style as follows: <Style ss:ID="GreenText"> <Font ss:FontName="Arial" ss:Size="9" ss:Color="#8CBE50" /> </Style> This works to an extent, but when I open it in Excel the colour rendered for the text isn't the one I specified - it's a brighter version. I can use the same colour reference for a cell border and the colour is rendered correctly. Can anyone shed any light on why the text colour isn't rendered correctly? Thanks!

Variable font height via tables in LaTeX

I've been looking for a more elegant solution to the following typesetting problem. Consider those banners found in print media where the text is aligned like: B I G T E X T small text small text small text m o r e m e d i u m t e x t The font sizes are adjusted so that the height is scaled down for longer lines of text such that each line has equal width. I've written a small script that runs each line separately, compiles, crops the resulting pdf and then \includegraphics each in a table. This gives the desired effect but requires an both an outside script and pdfcrop (which only crops to a white bounding box). Since much of LaTeX is self-aware, I imagine it would be possible to have it recognize the width of a box and scale it appropriately so that any text fits exactly into the desired width. Any thoughts or ideas on how a pure LaTeX implementation might work?

[AS3] htmlText not showing bold or italics font

So I have a MovieClip asset with a dynamic textfield sitting inside of it. I export my .fla as a .swc to use within Flash Builder 4, and create instances of the asset with code, populating the text dynamically from XML. My issue is that even though I have htmlText enabled, bold and italics tags don't appear to be working. I have a feeling it is because when I created the asset in Flash CS4, the text field makes you specify the font, and the subset of that to use (Regular, Bold, Oblique, etc). Is there any way to get the htmlText to render bold and italics tags properly without having to completely rethink the way I'm creating all these fields?
