  • Registering publicly Mail server and Web server in a free dns server

    I'm trying to host the e-mails and the site of our company into our private server. I've already followed the Gentoo Virtual Mailhosting System with Postfix Guide and my mail server is working (actually it sends mails for the local users and for external users it goes to spam) and know how to set an Apache 2 server. What I don't know (and I mean really don't) is how to make them public. I did some research and found that I should ask my ISP to change the reverse DNS to my company domain in order to prevent my mails to be marked as spam, they are doing. I already know I have to configure a DNS Server, it seems like my register provider already has one but I don't know how I can configure CNET, A, MX, TXT and all those tags (Is it tags the name?) and If I must do some other configuration on my server. My Server: Linux mail 3.2.21-gentoo #1 SMP My /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 mail.example.com.br example example.com.br ::1 mail.example.com.br mail example.com.br My /etc/conf.d/hostname: hostname ="mail" What am I missing?   • Microsoft Security Essentials Vs. Avast Home [Free] Edition on a netbook [closed]

    I am using Avast Home Edition in my Dell Mini 10v. As you know the notebook is using an under powered processor which is not really suitable for browsing some rich internet websites. So I am in the middle of improving the performance. Will uninstalling Avast and using Microsoft Security Essentials will improve the performance? the memory usage of avast is quite low but I can't compromise security. Is Security essentials a good bet?

  • Free-as-in-beer binary file format inspector

    I am looking for a utility that gives me the ability to specify a binary file format and then interpret a file of bytes according to that format. (Something along the lines of the 010 Editor, but infinitely more cost-effective). Something that runs on Mac OS X would be preferred, but I'm interested to see what all is out there in general (while more of a hassle I'd be willing to run a tool on Windows if it were superior.) What's your preference?

    It will sound stupid but i need to figure out how much disk space i have in my dedicated server, it runs CentOS6...the last command i issued was this [root@ks34900 ~]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on rootfs 9.7G 6.4G 2.9G 69% / /dev/root 9.7G 6.4G 2.9G 69% / none 1000M 288K 1000M 1% /dev /dev/sda2 914G 200M 868G 1% /home But again, stupid as it may sound... i cant figure out how much space i have in "/" folder (root) And is it possible that "/usr" have a different space (partition)?

  • Free Hosting control panel

    I'm in the mid of researching for one of the best hosting control panels. The server I run is Ubuntu and I have some experience with ISPConfig 2 & 3. Since I haven't explored any others available, what are the recommended ones for an Ubuntu server? I asked because I find that there seems to be some disabling and modifications required for an Ubuntu server if I need to use ispconfig which causes the server to change its actual way of running. It's quite good though, but any more recommended ones ? Something more organic? which doesn't require much breaking and changing. I'm not asking for the simple one, I don't mind going extra mile to install a powerful one but just try sticking with most Ubuntu's conventions will be an ideal one for me. And of course, if there happens to be something that meets the requirement as mentioned "Ubuntu conventions" and also simple to install at the same time, that'd be a bonus. Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 - mysteriously missing free HDD space

    I have Windows7 installed on 50GB (Oops, it should have been 45GB, sorry) partition, and every now and then it gets full, and I have to resize that partition. I always thought it is quite normal. But it happened again today and this time, I'm sure it is not normal, because since last resizing (35GB 45GB) I did not install any new apps or whatever. Also, sum of sizes off all, including hidden & system, root folders and files is ~18GB, yet windows is indicating that all 50GB are used up... Any idea what is going on? EDIT: Great tools everyone! (SourceForge appears to be offline at the moment, I'll check WinDirStat later) Alas, non of them solved my problem just yet... Screenshot from SpaceSniffer: On the right there is some kind of "Unknows Space", any idea what that could be? EDIT2: After those two apps failing to help much I didn't expect it, but WinDirStat actually helped. It showed that those missing 27GB are in my Temp folder (Well, that should have been my first guess anyway). There I found hundreds of ~100MB files, named like HTT????.tmp. After some googling it appears to be a problem with ESET NOD32 antivirus and it's ThreatSense feature. Thank you all for help! :)

Note that I don't have the software that may have come with the drive, but I'm assuming it works because I can burn files with Explorer. I just need something that can handle images too.

Then I just download backup files and delete them. After deletion Munin's memory graph returns cache and buffers to the state that was before backup.   • Is there a free-embedded SSH solution ?

    Hi, I'm working for an important company which has some severe network policies. I'd like to connect from my work, to my home linux server (mainly because it allows me to monitor my home-automated installation, but that's off-topic) but of course, any ssh connection (tcp port 22) to an external site is blocked. While I understand why this is done (to avoid ssh tunnels I guess), I really need to have some access to my box. (Well, "need" might be exagerated, but that would be nice ;) Do you know any web-based solution that I could install on my home linux server that would give me some pseudo-terminal (served using https) embedded in a web page ? I'm not necessarily looking for something graphical: a simple web-embedded ssh console would do the trick. Or do you guys see any other solution that wouldn't compromise network security ?   • How to free port 80 for xampp to work

    Please help, I used to be running xampp and it was working perfectly. Then I wanted to try something out and I ran IIS instead of xampp. Now I want to go back to using xampp, but whenever I try to run the apache server it says: Busy... Apache started [port 80] If I go to http://localhost/ then it just says that it can't establish a connection to the server. I have turned off IIS, so I don't see why it shouldn't work. Any suggestions?

  • Looking for a free/cheap backup solution on OSX for NTFS external HDD [closed]

    Hi, I'm looking for an incremental backup system on OSX that plays nice with USB NTFS-formatted external HDDs. I an currently using NTFS-3G (http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/) to work with the HDD, but since Time Machine doesn't work with NTFS drives, I have just been manually copying files from my HDD to back it up (ugh). I need to use an NTFS drive because I am going back and forth between Windows machines at my school and a mac at home. I have no permissions at my school to install any Windows software, so I am forced to find a OSX solution. Please -- any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi, I've been battling with this issue for couple of months. I need to send bulk mail (not spam) through my social network to users in situations like newsletters, site invitations (when user imports their address book contacts) I'm using shared hosting and it limits 500 mails per hour. Even though i manage to send mails most of them end up in user's spam box. After researching these are the solutions that i finally came up with. 1) Use Google Apps SMTP (http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/features.html) 2) Move into VPS 3) Use shared hosting with throttle enabled Please advise me on what to choose. Will using Google Apps prevent mail being sent as spam? I can't use other 3rd party SMTP like iContact or Aweber as "invitation sending script" will send emails to thousands of contacts, depending on user's addressbook. Thanks in advance

  • Is there a free XML viewer to do "pivot tables"

    I have an *.xml file on a PC running Windows XP, with a structure something like... <movies id="my movies" <movie name="Unforgiven" <people star="Clint Eastwood" director="Clint Eastwood"/> </movie> <movie name="A Fistful of Dollars" <people star="Clint Eastwood" director="Sergio Leone"/> </movie> <movie name="J Edgar" <people star="Leonardo DiCaprio" director="Clint Eastwood"/> </movie> </movies> I want to open this file in a viewer utility which will show one line per movie, filtered by a condition such as director="Clint Eastwood", including the relevant value for movie name on each line. Note - that's just an example. My actual file has thousands of lines, each possibly several hundred bytes long, and there are many more levels and named values. The important thing is I want to apply a filter for a specified value of some field at some level. And I want to see one line for every case where that value occurs, showing the values for any fields I specify, even if they're stored at higher levels. I may be mistaken in saying what I want is a "pivot table" - I don't know what I should call it.

    So, I'm trying to install AVG on someone else's computer (with permission, I promise!) but their internet connection is spotty. The d/l is stopped and sent back to square one when the line goes down, so I need to download it from a good terminal, and then shove it on a flash drive or something and give it to them. Does anyone know of a place where I can download the full program--not just the installer?

    As a Software Engineer we had a lot of discussion on SE design. Although we sync every document on the development process on Google Doc, mind map just didn’t fit in Google doc yet. The best we can do is to store a copy and share it online. To me, Mind map is an ir-replaceable piece of tools (yet) as agile note taking tools. And an eFormat is even greater than a paper one, due to the portability and extensibility. Does anyone have a good solution on “cloud-sharing” mind map? (We are using FreeMind at the moment) Thanks
