• Stopping cookies being set from a domain (aka "cookieless domain") to increase site performance

  I was reading in Google's documentation about improving site speed. One of their recommendations is serving static content (images, css, js, etc.) from a "cookieless domain": Static content, such as images, JS and CSS files, don't need to be accompanied by cookies, as there is no user interaction with these resources. You can decrease request latency by serving static resources from a domain that doesn't serve cookies. Google then says that the best way to do this is to buy a new domain and set it to point to your current one: To reserve a cookieless domain for serving static content, register a new domain name and configure your DNS database with a CNAME record that points the new domain to your existing domain A record. Configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain. In your web pages, reference the domain name in the URLs for the static resources. This is pretty straight forward stuff, except for the bit where it says to "configure your web server to serve static resources from the new domain, and do not allow any cookies to be set anywhere on this domain". From what I've read, there's no setting in IIS that allows you to say "serve static resources", so how do I prevent ASP.NET from setting cookies on this new domain? At present, even if I'm just requesting a .jpg from the new domain, it sets a cookie on my browser, even though our application's cookies are set to our old domain. For example, ASP.NET sets an ".ASPXANONYMOUS" cookie that (as far as I'm aware) we're not telling it to do. Apologies if this is a real newb question, I'm new at this! Thanks.

• Efficiently select top row for each category in the set

  I need to select a top row for each category from a known set (somewhat similar to this question). The problem is, how to make this query efficient on the large number of rows. For example, let's create a table that stores temperature recording in several places. For the former query three times one row is fetched. Is there a way to perform the query efficiently without lots of unions?

  I'm working on a program that's supposed to represent a graph. My issue is in my printAdjacencyList function. Basically, I have a Graph ADT that has a member variable "nodes", which is a map of the nodes of that graph. Each Node has a set of Edge* to the edges it is connected to. • PHP session_write_close() keeps sending a set-cookie header

  In my framework, I make a number of calls to session_write_close(). Let's assume that a session has been initiated with a user agent. The following code... foreach($i = 0; $i < 3; $i++) { session_start(); session_write_close(); } ...will send the following request header to the browser: Set-Cookie PHPSESSID=bv4d0n31vj2otb8mjtr59ln322; path=/ PHPSESSID=bv4d0n31vj2otb8mjtr59ln322; path=/ There should be no Set-Cookie header because, as I stipulated, the session cookie has already been created on the user's end. But every call to session_write_close() after the first one in the script above will result in PHP instructing the browser to set the current session again. This is not breaking my app or anything, but it is annoying. Does anyone have any insight into preventing PHP from re-setting the cookie with each subsequent call to session_write_close? EDIT The problem seems to be that with every subsequent call to session_start(), PHP re-sets the session cookie to its own SID and sends a Set-Cookie response header. But why??

• Display a jQuery Dialog/Popup, then set a hidden field using the result of the dialog

  The Problem I have a page with a form on. It has a hidden field called: generic_portrait I want the user to click a link "select portrait" This will open a Dialog/Popup using jQuery, based on a dropdown completed earlier in the form. If the value of the dropdown called "gender" is "male" then show male options, if "gender" is set to "female" show female options. Each portrait has a radio button, each with a name assigned "male1", "male2" etc Depending on the radio button selected in the popup, I want the hidden field to be set to match this. The Questions What is the best way to show a dialog/popup using jQuery, different depending on a dropdown box on the page. Use Javascript to see what is selected, then show a corresponding Div? I can do the check to see what the dropdown is set to using jQuery, but how can I then shown a specific popup based on that? Once i've popped it up, how do I take the value assigned to the selected radio box, and set the hidden field called "generic_portrait" to this value. Why i'm asking Normally I would figure this out myself, as i'm sure it's not that difficult, but I don't use Javascript and/or PHP very often, and this is due for a client urgently. So I would really, really appreciate some help on this one. Thanks for all replies in advance.

  Hello, I'm trying to set the caret position in a contenteditable div layer, and after a bit of searching the web and experimenting I got it to work in firefox using this: function set(element,position){ element.focus(); var range= window.getSelection().getRangeAt(0); range.setStart(element.firstChild,position); range.setEnd(element.firstChild,position); } [...] set(document.getElementById("test"),3); But in Chrome/webkit it selects all of the content in the div. Is this a bug with webkit or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance.

• iphone - Programmatically set (System-wide) proxy settings?

  I am new to iPhone development, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. I am developing an application whose purpose will be to route all iPhone activity through my company's proxy. Is there a way to programmatically set system-wide proxy settings in the iPhone (which will also take effect on the 3G connection)? I know there is a way to manually set proxy settings for each wifi connection. Detecting new networks and setting the proxy on them would be acceptable. However, I need to also be able to set the proxy on the 3G connection. Also, bonus: Is there a way to programmatically change the "Restrictions" settings? If anyone has any tips or can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks. EDIT: Please understand that this is for a legitimate purpose. Apple has to approve app store additions, so it's not like I'm trying to spread a virus. Please, constructive answers only.

But the browser is not storing the cookie. in external browser: the header doesn't have any set-cookie field. Should I use HTTPServletResponse? But shouldn't the javax.ws.rs.core.Response work as well?

So, it's hidden all the time In my particular case the errors that I show in the registration process cannot be seen on my 13inch laptop, but I don't want to show the scrollbars all the time. • OpenFileDialog RestoreDirectory as no effect if Multiselect is set to true

  We use OpenFileDialog across our application to select files. So far, we never used Multiselect. We set RestoreDirectory to true so that any time we open the dialog we get the user to the last directory used. If I set Multiselect to true, the directory from which the files are selected is not remembered. The dialog shows the last directory used when Multiselect was set to false. By the way, we create a new instance of OpenFileDialog. The environment: Windows XP VS 2008 targeting framework 3.5 C#

  Currently, I have an HQL query that returns all Members who possess ANY Award from a set of specified Awards: from Member m left join m.awards as a where a.name in ("Trophy","Ribbon"); What I now need is HQL that will return all Members who possess ALL Awards specified in the set of Awards. So, assuming this data: Joe has Trophy, Medal Sue has Trophy, Ribbon Tom has Trophy, Ribbon, Medal The query above would return Joe, Sue, and Tom because all three possess at least one of Trophy or Ribbon. But I need to return only Sue and Tom, because they are the only ones who possess all of the specified awards (Trophy and Ribbon). • java: List wrapper where get()/set() is allowed but add/remove is not

  I´m having a problem setting a cookie and doing a 302 redirect In chrome the cookie is not being set (I haven't tested safari), in other browsers I was having the same problem until I added Path=/ to the cookie an now it works. But I need to make additional convertion (needed to work correctly with legacy apps): for all dates we need to change timezone to UTC and set time to 12:00 PM. So now dates are stored in local database (New York) timezone. I need to convert them this way 25/12/2009 09:12 AM (local timezone) in date column = 25/12/2009 12:00 PM UTC timestamp with local timezone column. Could you advice, how to set timezone for date value in Oracle (I found only suggestions how to convert from one timezone to another) (for example in Java there is setTimeZone method for Calendar objects). We want to make a convertion this way: rename old date column to NAME_BAK create new column timestamp with local timezone iterate over old column for not-null values set timezone to UTC, time to 12:00 PM drop old column after testing of this migration

  Hello, I need to set (increase) max_allowed_packet. But the problem is I am using a shared hosting. So, I can not access the .ini or .cnf file. Also I can not use the SET command. How can I am able to set a value (actually increase) for the max_allowed_packet, without asking the hosting support. I have no SSH access there. EDIT: I am trying to use VB 4.0.3.   Once a page with a textarea is loaded, I want some textarea to have the focus immediatly if the mouse cursor is inside that textarea. This is the easy part because a onmousehover handler can set the focus. Now, how to I also set the position of the caret? I would like the caret to be where it would be if the user had clicked using the mouse to set the focus/caret. The basic use case is : User clicks on a link and waits (mouse barely moves) A page is delivered, it contains a big textarea only, full of text User types using keyboard Characters are inserted right below the mouse cursor Today the user has to wait until the caret is visible (at the top left of the textarea) and then click to move the caret before typing.   I am re-using Apple's AdvancedTableViewCells example to create a custom, fast-scrolling tableview. Specifically, I am using their CompositeSubviewBasedApplicationCell method which draws the content on the tableviewcell with drawRect Everything works, but how do you hide a label or set the tag for a label or image using their method? Doing it this way is pretty new to me (without IB), so I apologize ahead of time if it's something easy. • .NET DataGridView rows' default alignment all set to left

  DataGridView gets bound to DataTable. I then try to set some columns' DefaultCellStyle.Alignment to right. It doesn't work. After a bunch of tinkering, it turns out that every single row's DefaultCellStyle.Alignment is set to left and overrides it. DataGridView.DefaultCellStyle or RowsDefaultCellStyle doesn't do anything. Makes sense since a particular row's DefaultCellStyle is more specific but what gives. Why are they all set to something and not NotSet? How do I get rid of it instead of iterating through all rows?
