  • C++ Expose Already Existing Instance of Objects to a Scripting Language

    So, I want to be able to modify already instanced C++ objects in a scripting language. I have been looking at Lua with LuaBind and Python with SWIG or Boost::Python, but all I see is how to make new instances of the objects, but I want to modify already existing ones. Example: C++: Player playerOne = new Player(); Scripting Language : playerOne.Transform.x += 5; Is this possible, and if so, wat would you suggest as a good Language/library to achieve this with?

Can I not use a foreach loop on this type of object?

  • Choosing an alternative ( visual basic) high level programming language

    I used to be visual basic 6 programmer, i was pleased with visual basic : it is high level language that do stuff fast,easy to learn, easy to do stuff in,you can drag and drop stuff to the form and write your code,it is simply amazing.however microsoft buried VB6 and pointed us to VB.NET which is so different that it is not the old VB anymore.I didn't like what microsoft did and would like to look somewhere AWAY from microsoft and from any other proprietary language . I would like to look into a similar language that is easy,cross platform (windows / Linux), object oriented, visual design, non proprietary and compile (for some guarding against reverse engineering). i am freelancer so the choice is entirely mine,i don't care about performance of programs, the time taken to develop a given programs is much more important. desktop / database / GUI /networking programming is what i am looking for. so any such language offered by our open source community ? thank you so much

    Unfortunately my last question was closed, so I reformulated the question: I know this question was here a lot of times and can't be answered at all, but im not looking for a single name, but rather for an advice in my situation. I learned programming with Java and now I'm developing in Java for more or less 5 years (at the university) and I thinks my programming skills their are really ok/average. I have also small experience in C/C++ and C#. Now I have some spare time and I'd like to learn a new language or deepen the knowledge of Java/C/C++. But how to choose the right language to learn? I'd like to learn a language which will be usefull in the future concerning working in a software development business? I know there is no single answer, but I'm sure you could mention some languages that are more usefull than others. And what's the best way to learn such a language efficiently (bearing in mind that one has already learned some other languages)? Just doing tutorials? Or trying to implement a project? Trying to move a Java project to the new language?

Unit) {} I can do this: r(d1) But, when overloading r it will no longer work: def r[A, B, C](delegate: (A, B, C) ?   • Automating the choice between JPEG and PNG with a script

    Choosing the right format to save your images in is crucial for preserving image quality and reducing artifacts. Different formats follow different compression methods and come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. JPG, for instance is suited for real life photographs that are rich in color gradients. The lossless PNG, on the other hand, is far superior when it comes to schematic figures: Picking the right format can be a chore when working with a large number of files. That's why I would love to find a way to automate it. A little bit of background on my particular use case: I am working on a number of handouts for a series of lectures at my unversity. The handouts are rich in figures, which I have to extract from PDF-formatted slides. Extracting these images gives me lossless PNGs, which are needlessly large at times. Converting these particular files to JPEG can reduce their size to up to less than 20% of their original file size, while maintaining the same quality. This is important as working with hundreds of large images in word processors is pretty crash-prone. Batch converting all extracted PNGs to JPEGs is not an option I am willing to follow, as many if not most images are better suited to be formatted as PNGs. Converting these would result in insignificant size reductions and sometimes even increases in filesize - that's at least what my test runs showed. What we can take from this is that file size after compression can serve as an indicator on what format is suited best for a particular image. It's not a particularly accurate predictor, but works well enough. So why not use it in form of a script: I included inotifywait because I would prefer for the script be executed automatically as soon as I drag an extracted image into a folder. This is a simpler version of the script that I've been using for the last couple of weeks: #!/bin/bash inotifywait -m --format "%w%f" --exclude '.jpg' -r -e create -e moved_to --fromfile '/home/MHC/.scripts/Workflow/Conversion/include_inotifywait' | while read file; do mogrify -format jpg -quality 92 "$file" done The advanced version of the script would have to be able to handle spaces in file names and directory names preserve the original file names flatten PNG images if an alpha value is set compare the file size between the temporary converted image and its original determine if the difference is greater than a given precentage act accordingly The actual conversion could be done with imagemagick tools: convert -quality 92 -flatten -background white file.png file.jpg Unfortunately, my bash skills aren't even close to advanced enough to convert the scheme above into an actual script, but I am sure many of you can. My reputation points on here are pretty low, but I will gladly award the most helpful answer with the highest bounty I can set.     Hi, I am trying to encode a .mp4 to a .flv I've tried using the Adobe Media Encoder but the video is lost in the conversion process, leaving me a black screen and some audio. I have yet to find something that can do this successfully for free. I found ffmpeg, which looks promising... but I can't figure out how to get it to work. I am using javasound and have an AudioInputStream of format PCM_SIGNED 8000.0 Hz, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, little-endian Using AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(target_format, original_stream) produces an 'IllegalArgumentException: Unsupported Conversion' when the target_format is PCM_SIGNED 8000.0 Hz, 16 bit, mono, 2 bytes/frame, little-endian Is it possible to convert this stream manually after every read() call? And if yes, how? In general, how can you compare two formats and tell if a conversion is possible?

  • vqadmin "invalid language file" with google chrome

    We have been running our qmail setup for awhile with no issues. One of our admins has moved to Google Chrome as his main browser and we have noticed something odd. No matter what, when he loads the vqadmin page it errors on him with simply invalid language file. Yet if he loads Firefox, Opera, Safari or shudders IE8 it works fine. Searching google only results in 'Use IE' or 'Set english as your language in the browser'. A: I try to have people avoid IE if possible and B: There is no english option in Chrome.

So far, everything I have found about multiple languages seems to assume that you want the user interface (menus, etc) and document text in the same language, and that you only want that one language.   • Can't add German as input language in Windows XP

    I have a laptop that was brought to a computer shop for a hard disk problem. They replaced the disk and reinstalled windows XP, although the English version (the laptop has a German keyboard). I'd like to switch the input language to German. Usually I know how to do this (via "Regional and Language Options"), the problem is when I choose Languages/Details/Add... it doesn't offer me the German keyboard layout: It also uses the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" driver - the laptop's keyboard is a 104/105 key German version. I can't seem to change this. Did I just miss the setting, or what is going on here?

  • Word Opening Text Files by default as RTL, should be LTR

    I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom). Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?
