    Hi, I wanted a non recursive approach to the problem of generating combination of certain set of characters or numbers. So, given a subset k of numbers n, generate all the possible combination n!/k!(n-k)! The recursive method would give a combination, given the previous one combination. A non recursive method would generate a combination of a given value of loop index i. I approached the problem with this code: Tested with n = 4 and k = 3, and it works, but if I change k to a number 3 it does not work. Is it due to the fact that (n-k)! in case of n = 4 and k = 3 is 1. and if k 3 it will be more than 1?     I have a traits class that's used for printing out different character types: template <typename T> class traits { public: static std::basic_ostream<T>& tout; }; template<> std::ostream& traits<char>::tout = std::cout; template<> std::wostream& traits<unsigned short>::tout = std::wcout; gcc (g++) version 3.4.5 (yes somewhat old) is throwing an error: "expected constructor destructor or type conversion before '&' token" And I'm wondering if there's a good way to resolve this. (it's also angry about _O_WTEXT so if anyone's got some insight into that, I'd also appreciate it)

  • Matlab - plot multiple data sets on a scatter plot

    Hey all, I have 2 sets of data (Ax, Ay; Bx, By) - I'd like to plot both of these data sets on a scatter plot with different colors, but can't seem to get it to work because it seems scatter() does not work like plot(). Is it possible to do this? I've tried... scatter(Ax, Ay, 'g', Bx, By, 'b') And scatter(Ax, Ay, 'g') scatter(Bx, By, 'b') The first way returns an error. The latter only plots the Bx/By data. This means that there are a lot of insert commands (about 90/second average, peaking at 250) and some read operations, but the focus is on performance and making it blazing-fast. The system is currently on MongoDB, but I've been introduced to Cassandra and Redis since then. Would it be a good idea to go to one of these two solutions, rather than stay on MongoDB?     I have to set up an XML "web service" that receives a POST where the 'Content-type header will specify “text/xml”.' What is the simplest way to get the XML into an XDocument for access by VB.NET's axis queries? I don't believe the web service is guaranteed to follow any protocol (e.g. SOAP, etc); just specific tags and sub-tags for various requests, and it will use Basic Authentication, so I will have to process the headers. (If it matters: * the live version will use HTTPS, and * the response will also be XML.)

    Hi, I am newbie to ajax here and I know somebody would have encountered this problem already.   • CSS: Aligning problem with rounded corners in IE 6/7 but ok in IE8/ Firefox etc

    Hi there, can anyone help? I have a problem aligning rounded corners in IE6/7. Basically everything seems to work in Firefox / IE8 but in IE6/7 the left / center / and right divs get misaligned. This basically shows exactly what i am refering to. here is the example in IE8 and everything works ok http://es.drop.io/ern0fye/asset/ie8-jpg And here is the problem (this example is running in IE8 with compat mode set to IE7) http://es.drop.io/ern0fye/asset/ie7-jpg I seem to remember there being a bug in IE6/7 with lineheight or similar but i don't recall exactly. Basically there is a left div that holds the left corner image and center div which has a background of RED which is the same as the corner images and finally a right div which holds the right corner image. I would appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks in advance.   • OnExit is not entering via PostSharp in asp.net project.

    Hi there, I have setup PostSharp and it appears to be working but i don't get it entering OnExit (i have logged setup to ensure it is working) ... Its a bit tricky to configure with asp.net - or is it just me ... I am using the 1.5 new version I basically have the following in my web.config and i had to add the SearchPath otherwise it can't find my assemblies <postsharp directory="C:\Program Files\PostSharp 1.5" trace="true"> <parameters> <!--<add name="parameter-name" value="parameter-value"/>--> </parameters> <searchPath> <!-- Always add the binary folder to the search path. --> <add name="bin" value="~\bin"/> </searchPath> </postsharp> I have set tracing on but what is strange to me is that it appears to build to the temp directory, maybe this is my issue, i am unsure .. hence i do F5 ... Is it possible to name the Output directory and output file?? As you can see it is editing a DLL in the temp dir so IIS is no longer in control so it doesn't execute it ???     I created a folder in a TFS Project under workspace "CPortalWS". I deleted the workspace, but now I would like to delete the folder in the project and the delete option is not available. I've tried to create a new workspace mapped to the project but I still don't get the option to delete. Is this a bug in TFS? How can I delete the folder? Any help would be appreciated.

    I have all my views in a project inheriting from a ViewBase class that inherits from UserControl.   • Building an XML editor in java and RichFaces

    Hello I'm building an XML editor using the above technologies. In essence, I want to read in a whole XML file to a java object, and refer using this object to each element in the XML node tree (grouped into entries) to display the content locked, have separate padlocks for the user to click to 'unlock' an entry allow overwriting of the data, and to submit this entry. 'Add entry', 'Duplicate entry', 'Delete entry' are also functions I'd like to add. I already use dom4j and XPath to access areas of the XML file so some of the work in theory is already done. Given the above, I was going to use these two together with inplaceInputs to allow the user to edit the XML and JSF validators to check the data coming in. Is this the best way to approach this problem, or is there a more straightforward route than XPathing a whole record? I started looking at jaxb but I'm new at java and jsf but I've got the feeling I won't be by the end.. Thanks

  • Ruby Iconv works with irb and ruby debugger but not in a unit test

    I'm running Ruby 1.8.7 with Rails 2.3.5 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. I've written a method that should take a string like this, "École À la Découverte" and output a file-system name like this "ecole_a_la_decouverte": (Iconv.new('US-ASCII//TRANSLIT', 'utf-8').iconv "École À la Découverte").gsub(/[^\w\s-\—]/,'').gsub(/[^\w]|[_]/,' ').split.join('_').downcase When I test this line in my code, the test always fails saying that "cole_la_dcouverte" is unequal to "ecole_a_la_decouverte". The odd thing is that if I insert a debugger line and use the debugger console the test passes. As well, running this line manually in irb seems to work. Does anyone know what's going on and why this test is failing? My only thought is that including the debugger or irb somehow adds more support for UTF-8 but I'm at a loss to figure out where to go next. Thanks in advance!

    What does O, if indeed it is a Oh (As in the letter O) not the number Zero (0) mean? I think the n would be number, but I'm not sure as I'm not a 'real' computer programmer, just a hobbyist. And log would be logarithmic function, but I only know that because of smarter people then I have told me this, while never really explaining what a logarithm is. So please, in plain English, explain what this is, and the differences between the two (such as their applications.

  • Passing to service custom class instance in WCF

    Hi, I have my custom class Customer with its properties. I added DataContract mark above the class and DataMember to properties and it was working fine, but I'm calling a service class's function, passing customer instance as parameter and some of my properties get 0 values. While debugging I can see my properties values and after it gets to the function, some properties' values are 0. Why it can be so? There's no code between this two actions. DataContract mark workes fine, everything's ok. Any suggestions on this issue? I tried to change ByRef to ByVal, but it doesn't change anything. Why it would pass other values right and some of integer types just 0? Maybe the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out.   • Cross compiling unit tests with CppUnit or similar

    Has anyone used a package like CppUnit to cross-compile C++ unit tests to run on an embedded platform? I'm using G++ on a Linux box to compile executables that must be run on a LynxOS board. I can't seem to get any of the common unit test packages to configure and build something that will create unit tests. I see a lot of unit test packages, CppUnit, UnitTest++, GTest, CppUTest, etc., but very little about using these packages in a cross-compiler scenario. The ones with a "configure" script imply that this is possible, but I can't seem to get them to configure and build.

    My app has 6 menu items, so the OS shows the first 4, then shows a "More" item that links to a screen where the user can select the other two. My problem is that I want to show a badge on the More item so that the user knows that one of the menu items that is hidden needs their attention. (It's clear to our users which hidden item the badge represents since one of the hidden items is Settings and the other is current Uploads) I don't know how to access the "More" item since the "items" array on UITabBar only contains the 6 actual UITabBarItems that I've created; it doesn't include the system generated "More" item. I've tried setting the badge on one of the hidden UITabBarItems, but no badge is ever displayed. I didn't find much on Google, which makes me wonder if I'm going about this completely wrong. The iTunes app does the same thing when you download items. They display a More item and attach a badge to it, so I figured I was in good company, but I'll be damned if I see how they did that. (Unless they manually created a UITabBarSystemItemMore item and manually handled displaying the other menu items. Ugh.)
