  • SQLServer 2008 FailOver and Load Balancing

    I have a project with a 2TB database ( 450.000.000 rows). I need to provide to the proyect a solution that gives FailOver and load Balacing, what do you recommend? We are going to use a NetApp Filer for the Data Files and for the File System of the Proyect. I read that SQl Clustering does not provide load balacing. If I cannnot have this feature and I have to go only to the FailOver what Server ( I presume that the key feature here is memory) would you recomend. We are adding 1.000.000 rows a day. Once the rows is inserted we are doing a lot of updates to that row for about 1 week then the row get static. Because of this I am thinking in some kind of history table or database or something like that. I am open to the Os servers implementation, I was thinking of a windows 2008 server with cluster but this depend of the database solution

    I have to install a new Server with SQL Server 2008, What do you recommend, One server with Raid 10 or the Files in a NAS? What about iSCSI should I use it? What about SAN? The server has 4Gb of RAM and that database file is about 2GB. To make my self clear today the server has no RAID, I have to implement some kind of strategy so if something happend I can have my files safe, so What should I choose Local Files, NAS, SAN? I have a partion called Server and inside it i have 5 folders like Folder 1 FOlder 2 Folder 3 I am mounting the drive on startup by using following command as told to me by some senoir members and it works but with some problems /dev/sdb1 /media/Server ntfs defaults,umask=006,fmask=000,dmask=007,uid=1000,gid=1001 0 0 The problem is with this command the permission are applied to all folders like Folder 1 , Folder 2 , FOlder3 But i want that only FOlder 3 should be publicly readable and writable while all other should be private and no one should have access to that. How can i achieve that

    I setup new server on centos 5.3 and configure dns and hostnam using WHM. I also register my new nameservers with my domain registrar with ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com. But i am unable to ping hostname and NS. ping pc2.example.com or ping ns1.example.com I received the below email from server. IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email. Your hostname (pc2.example.com) could not be resolved to an IP address. This means that /etc/hosts is not set up correctly, and/or there is no dns entry for pc2.example.com. Please be sure that the contents of /etc/hosts are configured correctly, and also that there is a correct 'A' entry for the domain in the zone file. Some or all of these problems can be caused by /etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check that file if you believe everything else is correct. You may be able to automatically correct this problem by using the 'Add an A entry for your hostname' option under 'Dns Functions' in your Web Host Manager. When I issue the command root@pc[~]# host pc2.example.com I receive the below error that Host pc2.example.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) I added A entries for hostname and Nameservers but nothing replies.     I want to add the bthprops.cpl dll (The bluetooth control panel applet) to my wine install under Ubuntu 10.04 since it is required for Dolphin Emulator. http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/ I copied the file from my windows install into the System32 folder in .wine and into the folder where the application I am trying to run is, but wine still fails to load it. Is there anything else I need to do to make the dll accessible for wine programs? (Please don't suggest the native linux Version of Dolphin as a fix - it is not working for me)

I want that all the files created under /home/ directory has group write permission by default.
