• Exposing BL as WCF service

  I'm working on a middle-tier project which encapsulates the business logic (uses a DAL layer, and serves a web application server [ASP.net]) of a product deployed in a LAN. The BL serves as a bunch of services and data objects that are invoked upon user action. At present times, the DAL acts as a separate application whereas the BL uses it, but is consumed by the web application as a DLL. Both the DAL and the web application are deployed on different servers inside organization, and since the BL DLL is consumed by the web application, it resides in the same server. The worst thing about exposing the BL as a DLL is that we lost track with what we expose. Deployment is not such a big issue since mostly, product versions are deployed together. Would you recommend migrating from DLL to WCF service? if so, why ? Do you know anyone who had a similar experience ? Thank you !

• Deactivate dead OCS 2007 R2 Edge Server?

  I'm having a surprising issue where our old OCS 2007 R2 Edge server died of hardware failure (no backup) in the middle of our move to Lync. How can I forcefully remove the Edge server from the organization without being able to deactivate the role from the server itself? I've noticed the correct procedure for uninstalling OCS 2007 R2 is as follows: If you are removing an Edge Server, a Mediation Server, an Archiving Server, or a Monitoring Server, remove the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 components in the following sequence: Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Edge Server Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Mediation Server Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Archiving Server Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Monitoring Server Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Core Components Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Unified Communications Managed API 2.0 Core Redistribution package And to deactivate an Edge server: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572832(v=office.13).aspx Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Preventing out of office storms Exchange 2010, OWA and Auto Forward to a group

  In my organization we have a group mailbox for a particular function. The actual function is preformed by 15 - 20 individuals on a rotating basis. The group mailbox serves as a record for all e-mail sent to that function. Individual access to the mailbox is established by adding a user to an A/D group. For convenience, those members of the group would prefer to not have to "check" this group/non-entiyy mailbox. To achieve that, I want to forward all incoming mail to the group mailbox to that group. So far I am not seeing any consistency in the way an out of office response looks in order to build an exception to the forward rule. We have not turned this feature on for the group, instead waiting until we are sure this will not be an issue. How do I preventing out of office replies to the group mailbox from being forwarded to the group? Management of the mailbox is conducted via OWA. Exchange 2010

• Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

What are some strategies/tools or ideas you all have for accomplishing this task? I was at an Interactive Agency, where we needed to keep track of client DB, ftp, mail... and for different environments for the app so any one client would have up to 3-10 passwords usually. This can get crazy when there are more than 250 clients

After having generated a repository such as the above; given a single switch, how to query it for the list of all devices attached to it? Finally, how to selectively power down/power up ports? • Office 365 Powershell - Export user, license type, and company field to csv file

  I need to be able to export user name or email address (doesn't matter which), company (from the company field under the organization tab in a user account of the exchange admin console), and license type (e.g. exchange online e1, exchange online kiosk etc...) I am able to export both values in two statements into two separate files but that doesn't do me much good. I can export the username and license type with the following: Get-MSOLUser | % { $user=$_; $_.Licenses | Select {$user.displayname},AccountSKuid } | Export-CSV "sample.csv" -NoTypeInformation And, I can get the company values with the following: Get-User | select company | Export-CSV sample.csv Someone on another forum suggested this - $index = @{} Get-User | foreach-object {$index.Add($_.userprincipalname,$_.company)} Get-MsolUser | ForEach-Object { write-host $_.userprincipalname, $index[$_.userprincipalname], $_.licenses.AccountSku.Skupartnumber} That seems like it should work but it doesn't display any license info in my powershell, it's just blank. Also I wouldn't know how to export that to a csv file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Certificate Template Missing from "Certificate Template to Issue"

  I'm having a problem similar to that posted in this question: Missing Certificate template From certificate to issue The short version is that I've created a duplicate certificate template and I'm trying to add it to my domain CA so that I can issue certificates with it. However, when I go into the Certification Authority MMC and go to "Certificate Templates - New - Certificate Template To Issue", my template is missing (along with quite a number of other templates that are present in the domain). Unlike the previous question, however, my CA is running on Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. Our organization has a single DC and a single CA, so I'm not seeing where there could be propagation delay. Any ideas how to get my template to show so that I can issue certificates?

• Small web server hardware advice

  We need to build a new web server for our organization. We have around 100 hundred small traffic web sites, so our hardware requirements are not too tough. We run CentOS 6, Varnish+Apache, PHP, MySQL, Typo3 CMS for most of websites. Here's a hardware we want to buy: SuperMicro X9SCA-F-O (we need to have a remote management capability) (or better X9SCM-F?) Intel Xeon E3-1220 v2 2*4Gb DDR-III 1600MHz Kingston ECC (KVR16E11/4) (currently we have 4gb, and it feels like enough, so no reason for 16gb yet). Procase EB140-B-0 (1 unit) PSU 350W Procase MG1350, Active PFC We already have: Intel 335 120GB SSD (for OS, databases and important websites). 2*2tb WD Green RAID1 (for other data and backups). Does it look like a reasonable choice for our needs? Any issues with hardware compatibility? Any other notes?

• Shareing two internet connections on my laptop running Windows XP

  I have two internet connections, one is internet via our organization's corporate LAN network, and the other one is mobile broadband via a USB modem Is there anyway I can share internet connections and use them simultaneously? I want to use the corporate LAN network for normal browsing and connecting my email client, and I want to use the USB modem for establishing a VPN connection. Will I be able to maintain both the connections simultaneously? Can I have parallel downloads, one using our corporate network, and the other one using the mobile broadband? Will I be able to switch my browser between these two connections? My laptop runs Windows XP Service Pack 2.

  Good afternoon everyone, I'm quite new to Active Directory stuff. After upgraded Functional level of our AD from 2003 to 2008 R2 (I need it to put fine-grained password policy), I then start to reorganized my OUs. I keep in mind that a good OU organization facilitate application of GPO (and maybe GPP).But in the end, it feels more natural for me to use Security-group filtering (from Scope tab) to apply my policies, instead of direct OU. Do you think it is a good practice or should I stick to OU ? We are a small organisation with 20 users and 30-35 computers. So, we got a simple OU tree, but more subtle split with security-groups. The OU tree doesn't contain any objects except at the bottom level. Each bottom level OU contains Computers,Users, and of course security groups. • Exchange read receipt are delivered to recipient instead of sender

  We have two interconnected Exchange organizations: Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2013. When users ask for read receipt in Outlook these receipts are delivered correctly within each organization. However when Exchange 2003 users send messages to Exchange 2013 users the read receipts are delivered to the Exchange 2013 recipients and instead of the message senders. We analyzed the message content at the recipient side and it looks like the message arrives with an incorrect ReadReceiptEntryID field. The field must contain the sender's address but it contains the recipient address instead. What can be the cause of the issue?

• Is MS Forefront Add-in for Exchange server detecting HTML/Redirector.C incorrectly?

  Users of a website hosted by our organization occasionally send complaints that our registration confirmation emails are infected with HTML/Redirector.C. They are always using an MS Exchange Server with the MS Forefront for Exchange AV add-in. The thing is, I don't think the detection is legitimate. I think the issue is that the link in the email we send causes a redirect. I should point out that this is done for a legitimate purpose. :) Has anybody run into this before? Naturally, Microsoft provides absolutely no good information on this one: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Trojan%3aHTML%2fRedirector.C&ThreatID=-2147358338 I can't find any other explanation of HTML/Redirector.C on the Internet either. • PXE in an 802.1X environment

  My organization is about to implement 802.1X on our enterprise, but we currently use PXE-based OS deployment sequences in SCCM. I'm looking for a way to continue using PXE in an 802.1X environment. Our infrastructure uses Cisco network gear running at 12.2 (or newer). We are an all Windows network and all clients support 802.1X. All new workstations have Intel AMT available (but not factory configured). In a worst case scenario, we'll use a guest vlan for OSD, but I'd rather have the OSD occur in an authenticated session. I've seen white papers that describe using AMT to act as a supplicant for PXE boot, but can't find any implementation details...

I have a two-part question (note that I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to network administration). Part 1: Is there some simple way that I can determine which accounts are logged in with administrator rights? • Importing photoimpact .ab3 file database into another album program

  I have Photoimpact Album v5 which has now maxed out at 65,000 photos with database information. I can export the database and file information to a csv or dbase 4 file but I cannot find any way to import the information to a competative Photo Organization/Database product like Adobe Lightroom, ACDSee Pro3 or Photo Collector, etc... which is more modern, will work on Vista/Windows7, and not have any file limitations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really cannot reinput data information for 65,000 photos manually. I would use any good software that I can transfer my files and data ifno to.

• Is it possible to create a read-only user account for security auditing purposes?

  An organization requires several administrators to have a role of a security auditor. They must have read-only (via network/remote) access to Windows Server 2008 / R2 systems and have permissions to view the server configuration. They must not be able to make any other changes to the server or the network, like restarting or making any configuration chanages. However I can't find any built-in settings for a user like this. The closest thing is the "Users" user group [1], however from my understanding every user in the domain is in this group and cannot view the domain server's configuration. • Mysql hosting for application backend

  I've been asked to help set up a way for a volunteer animal rescue organization to use an application to keep track of animals they've rescued. This application already exists, and can use it's own local database or connect to a MySQL database server. Since there are several volunteers spread out over a large region, a database server would be the best way to go. Money is a big problem, obviously. So, I'm looking for a very cheap or hopefully free database server or webhost that allows tcp/ip connections to their database servers. Backups will be handled on our end, so basically I just need the hosted mysql server. I've seen 000webhost.com, x10hosting, and xtreemhost, which all look promising, but they either aren't clear on remote mysql connections, or don't allow it at all. • Issue with user having a gmail account and Google Apps account using same email/username

  Greetings! We have a user in our organization that had been using her email address at our domain at her username for gmail.com We recently moved our folks on to Google Apps, and have just moved our email server over to Google (IMAP/SMTP). I'm having all kinds of trouble only with this user's account with her sending and receiving email via the new Google mail server and wondering if it's because of her existing Gmail account. So her email address with us is [email protected], which is her login/user id with us on our Google Apps site. She still has her gmail identity tied to that same [email protected]. She's ok with deleting her old Gmail account...if I do so however will it goof things up for her going forward with us on the Google Apps site? Will she not be able to receive email? Thanks! Joshua

• Can my email address be revoked? [closed]

  I did some work with an organization and had a falling out, so I left them. They used postfix to have [email protected], and I had one. I set up gmail to get my mail via POP as well as to "send mail as @_.com". I think for a long time they forgot to delete my email address and now it seems that I can send but not receive mail at the address. What could a possible explanation for this be? Can they revoke delivery but not sending from the address? Why would they only revoke one if they cna revoke both? Is it more tedious or difficult a task to revoke sending? Thanks

• Multiple CAS servers with Microsoft Exchange and selective authorization

  I have a Microsoft Exchange 2010 organization within one Microsoft Windows domain and I have users accessing it through OWA. For simplicity lets say I currently have one CAS server (CAS 1) which is accessible only through a VPN connection. Lets call the users connecting to the first CAS group a. For some users though, I need to install another CAS server (CAS 2) so that they can connect without using a VPN connection. Lets call those users group b. What I need to achieve is that group a can only log in to CAS 1 and group b can only log in to CAS 2. Now I know that one can disable/enable OWA per user but in my case that is not enough because OWA must be enabled for both groups.
