• Can't get MySQL to install

  I'd like to think I know what I'm doing in a Unix shell but maybe not. I made a mistake in a configuration file for MySQL, so I decided to just uninstall it and then reinstall it, so I did: sudo apt-get --purge remove mysql-server mysql-server-5.0 mysql-client The files were deleted, so I then tried to install it, but it didn't ask me for a root password or anything else, so I uninstalled it using the above command again and then did sudo rm -rf /etc/mysql sudo rm /etc/init.d/mysql sudo rm -rf /var/lib/mysql* I then restarted the computer then installed it again: sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client It asked for a root password, and everything looked like it would work, until I saw this: $ sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client Reading package lists...   I have a Debian machine that I have previously installed MySQL on. In an attempt to delete it, I stupidly deleted the directories/files /etc/mysql/, /etc/init.d/mysql, /usr/lib/mysql/, /var/lib/mysql/. I then later did sudo apt-get purge mysql-server mysql-server-5.0. Now, when I try to install mysql-server, I get: $ sudo apt-get install mysql-server Reading package lists... I previously had MySQL working great, I just want to get it back to that state. Thanks so much for your help.

  When user registers on my web site, web site sends user email confirmation link. Subject: Please confirm your email address Body:Please open this link in your browser to confirm your email address: http://www.postjobfree.com/a/c301718062444f96ba0e358ea833c9b3 This link will expire on: 6/9/2012 8:04:07 PM EST. If my web site sends that email to GMaill (either @gmail.com or another domain that's handled by Google Apps) and that user never emailed to email -- then GMail not only puts the email to spam folder, but also adds prominent red warning:Be careful with this message. Similar messages were used to steal people's personal information. Unless you trust the sender, don't click links or reply with personal information. Learn more That warning really scares many of my users, so they are afraid to open that link and confirm their email. What can I do about it? Ideally I would like that message end up in user's inbox, not spam folder. But at least how do I prevent that scary message? • Sharepoint AD imported users are becomming sporadically corrupted, causing us to have to create a new account

  Sharepoint 2007 MOSS with AD imported users. All servers are 2008. ***UPDATE More details in testing. This Sharepoint is in an AD Child domain (clients.mycompany.local), which is sub to the root of the AD tree (mycompany.local). The user is in the parent tree (as are half of the other functional users. I have elevated the user rights to Domain. In looking at the logs, it seems that the Sharepoint server is trying to authenticate them by querying the DC for the clients domain (which is the way it normally works and still works for all existing identically configured users). I think if I could force it to authenticate up to the top domain DC then it would be ok?? I have around 50 users, over the past 2 months, I have had a handful of the users suddenly unable to login to Sharepoint. When they login, they either get a blank screen or they are repropmted. These users are using accounts that have been used for many months, sometimes the problem originates with a password change. In all cases, the users account works on every other Active Directory authenticated resource (domain, exchange, LDAP). In the most recent case, last night I was forced deleted a user ("John smith") because of corruption. The orifinal account name was jsmith. I deleted him from active directory, then deleted him from the profile list in Sharepoint Shared Services. I could not find a way to delete him from the Sharepoint user list, but I reran the import after recreating his account (renamed it too just to be sure to "smithj"). At first, this did not wor, the user could still access all other resources but Sharepoint. then, some 30 minutes later it inexplicably started working. This morning, the user changed passwords, which immediatly broke the login on Sharepoint again. I have two NICs: one ONBOARD, the other additional on PCI. both of them are Broadcom netXtreme 5572. on the first boot of the system, I could see both cards as eth0 and eth1 (with ifconfig) I configured eth0 as static IP (as planned), and did not configure eth1. after rebooting, one of the two NICs "disappeared": it does not appear in ifconfig at all. the one that disappeared is the ONBOARD one. • Duplicate DNS Zones (Error 4515 in Event Log )

  I am getting these two error in the DNS Event log (errors at end of question). I have confirmed I do have duplicate zones. I am wondering which ones to delete. The DomainDNSZone contains all of our DNS records but it does not have the _msdcs zone.... that is in the ForestDNSZone with the duplicates that are not in use. here is a picture of that 3 Questions. I understand the advantages of having DNS in the ForestDNSZone. so... Why is DNS using the DomainDNSZone and is that acceptable considering _msdcs... is in the ForestDNSZone? If so, should I just delete the DC=1.168.192.in-addr.arpa and DC=supernova.local from the ForestDNSZone? Or should I try to get those to be the ones in use? What are those steps? I understand how to delete. That is simple but if i must move zones some info would be appreaciated there. Just to confirm. from my understanding. I can delete the two duplicates in the ForestDNSZone and leave the _msdcs.supernova.local as thats required there. This will resolve the erros I see. Just fyi when I look in those folders from the ForestDNSZone they have just 2 and 1 entries respectively. So obviously not in use compared to the others. I am pretty sure I understand the steps to complete this. But if you would like to provide that info, bonus points! • 13.10 - Weird WiFi connection problems - WMP300N - Broadcom BCM4321

  Just installed 13.10 on my desktop and I really like it. After having problems with getting the wifi to work, I installed it connected to the internet with an ethernet cable and added in the 3rd party software and updates as per the installation procedure. After installation was completed, I saw the wifi icon in the upper right hand corner, but it was not seeing any wifi networks. Some Googling brought me to use the 'Additional Drivers' application. It found the WMP300N Broadcom BDM4321 based pci wifi card and installed the proprietary Broadcom STA wireless driver, which may have been installed before. I'm not sure. Here is the weird part: when I start my system, wifi seems to be in some sort of suspended state where the system sees that the card exists but the card will not detect any wifi networks. It will work after booting once I 'Additional Drivers' application and then start FireFox. I know it seems weird, but this is the process I've got down to get the card to recognize wifi networks. After those applications are open for a few seconds, the card starts to function like normal (although maintaining the wifi connection is problem but most likely a seperate issue). The reason this is a problem is because this is supposed to just be a headless box managed through SSH. • Unable to connect to Wireless after installing Ubuntu 12.10

  I am using Asus U56E laptop and after installing Ubuntu 12.10 alongside Windows 8, I am unable to connect to the Wireless. I have been trying to solve this problem since two weeks and couldn't solve it. Please help. Any answer would be appreciated. • Ubuntu 12.04 + Wifi not working

  i'm having problems connecting over wireless. At the moment, I'm using wicd. It seems to get stuck on "Verifying AP association...". Without wicd I can get the connection up and ping the Net - but if I take eth0 down (ifconfig eth0 down), my wireless goes away too (same result if I unplug the wire instead). wicd is the only way I can bring eth0 back (which is the main reason I'm using it) - ifconfig eth0 and/or ifup eth0 do not re-enable the connection (I just discovered it leaves out the gateway. Adding the gateway back in re-enables the connection including wifi; I didn't want to delete the info about wicd above in case it gives someone an idea.) • Wireless networks are not detected at start up in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have recently (three four days ago) installed Ubuntu 12.04 via windows installer i.e. wubi.exe. After the installation completed wireless and Ethernet were both working well. But after restart wireless networks didn't show up while in the network manager both networking and wireless were enabled. Though sometimes after boot it did show the networks available but very rarely. So I went through various posts regarding wireless issues in Ubuntu 12.04 and tried so many things but ended up in nothing satisfactory. I have Broadcom 4313 LAN network controller and brcmsmac driver. Then relying on some suggestions I tried to install bcm-wl driver but couldn't install due to some error in jockeyl.log file. Then i tried fresh installation of the same driver but still could resolve the startup issues with wireless. Then again I reinstalled Ubuntu inside windows using wubi installer. This time again same problem occurred after boot. But this time I successfully installed wl driver before disturbing file-system files of Ubuntu. But again the same issue. This time I noticed some new things: If I inserted Ethernet/LAN cable before startup then wireless networks are available and of course LAN(wired) networks also work. but if i don't plug in cable before startup and then plug it after startup then it didn't detect Ethernet network neither wireless. So I haven't noticed it before that LAN along with wifi also doesn't work after startup. But if i suspend the session and make it sleep and again login then it worked. I tried it every time that WLAN worked perfectly. But still i m unable to resolve that startup problem. Each time i boot first I have to suspend it once then only networks are available. It irritates me each time i reboot/boot my lappy. So please help out of this problem. Any ideas/help regarding this issue would be highly appreciated. • DHCP settings out of range Internet shuts off after a few minutes

  I recently upgraded from windows eight to windows 8.1 I do not know if this has anything to do with anything I have a 64 bit OS. My Internet goes off by itself every 5 minutes even though my wireless icon at the lower right of the screen still shows connected I had an error message in the last event in it said that might DHCP settings were out of range. I get my internet at my house through a wireless portable hotspot through my smart phone. But i haven't ever had any problems before and i only have this problem on this network. If i turn airplane mode on and reset my network card, the internet will come back to life but soon die. i don't experience this problem while on a different network or if i'm on WiFi. • Using pfSense, OpenVPN Connects but Still Can't See the Network

  I am having an OpenVPN issue. I have a pfSense box at home configured to allow traffic through a VPN tunnel. The client computer is Windows XP Home, behind a standard Comcast connection and a Netgear wireless router. I use OpenVPN to access my work network (from where I am trying to get out of in this post) from home (with an XP Pro machine behind pfSense), and this works fine. The client config is similar but has the changes specific to my setup... Here is my XP Home config: client dev tun proto tcp remote pfsense.*.org 1194 (starred out by me) resolv-retry infinite nobind persist-key persist-tun ca ca.crt cert client.crt key client.key ns-cert-type server comp-lzo verb 3 When I launch the OpenVPN GUI, the Tunnel TAP network connection turns red, and I can right-click that to connect to the server. Everything seems to work fine until I browse for the actual network. The Tunnel TAP connection turns green and it says connected to 10.1.1.6 (I have tried different IP pools here too with no luck). I can see the internal network fine, but my home network behind pfSense is not there. I have tried browsing there by using Tools Map Network Drive, using the browser, with no success. Could this be my problem? I am still relatively new to firewalls, VPN, and network configuration so I'm sure I am messing up something simple. Oh yah, I should note that I have firewall rules configured for pfSense to allow traffic through the WAN and the LAN. At first there was just the WAN firewall rule, because that is what I got from the literature I was reading. I then created a LAN rule as well, but I'm not sure if this was correct. • SBS 08 Backup fail

  I'm trying to backup my SBS 08 (only C:) with Windows Server Backup. It fails a few minutes after it started : Backup started at '08/12/2009 1:27:23 PM' failed as Volume Shadow copy operation failed for backup volumes with following error code '2155348022'. Please rerun backup once issue is resolved. In the EventViewer i have lots of error : VSS : 12289 SQLVDI : 1 MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE : 18210 MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE : 3041 SQLWRITER : 24583 All VSS ans SQL services are started. I have WSUS 3.0, Exchange 07. I don't have any third party backup software running at the same time. Thanks for your help !

  I followed this thread and it's associated links. But there is nothing i can do to get CF9 to work. MAMP Pro now has the 64bit version of apache 2.2. Whenever i start apache i get an error saying it couldn't start and to check the logs. i check the logs and this is what i see. 6/1/10 12:39:12 PM [0x0-0x8d78d7].de.appsolute.mamppro[52702] Cannot load /Applications/ColdFusion9/runtime/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun22.so into server: cannot create object file image or add library I've tried copying the mod_jrun22.so file form the installer, wsconfig.jar and from another developer running standalone apache. all fail. any ideas????

  I'm running Citrix XenServer 5.5 as a testsetup, with Openfiler providing Storage via NFS. I tried to setup a Ressource Pool to test Live migration but I'm unable to a my 2. Server to the Pool. It fails after about 10sec with the Error: 4/26/2010 2:54:52 PM Error: Adding server 'u-173-c047.XXX.XXX' to pool 'Portland' - Internal error: Stunnel.Stunnel_error("") I'm kind of lost right now where to look whats causing this, and the Error is not really of any help. Are there logs availible somewhere besides in XenCenter, which might be helpful? Any Ideas what is causing this? Thanks

• How to troubleshoot a GPF?

  I get a GPF dialog box out of the blue fairly often (like about 2 hours after I turn on the computer). It basically says that svchost.exe had a failure... (see the corresponding Event Log entry below). Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 5/18/2010 Time: 7:41:16 PM User: N/A Computer: DKHA-IPSA Description: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0004eaa9. Shortly after this error pops up, the computer pretty much grinds to a halt (e.g. some UI elements on the desktop simply do not respond). And I have to do a hard reboot. How do I troubleshoot this type of thing? P.S. The PC has all the latest patches and nothing is missing in the Device Manager.
