  I would like to thank everyone who came out to last night’s event and especially thank Mike Vogt for the presentation. I think at first everyone glassed over since very few of us spend a lot of time with Integration Architecture and most of us live more in the application architecture space.  Learning about subject like BPEL and BPMN was refreshing. The discussion after Mike’s talk was lively and I think that everyone came away with a good idea of areas they might want to know more about.  People stuck around long after the meeting was over. • Beginner Guide to User Styles for Firefox

  While the default styles for most websites are nice there may be times when you would love to tweak how things look. See how easy it can be to change how websites look with the Stylish Extension for Firefox. Note: Scripts from Userstyles.org can also be added to Greasemonkey if you have it installed. Getting Started After installing the extension you will be presented with a first run page. You may want to keep it open so that you can browse directly to the Userstyles.org website using the link in the upper left corner. In the lower right corner you will have a new Status Bar Icon. If you have used Greasemonkey before this icon works a little differently. It will be faded out due to no user style scripts being active at the moment. You can use either a left or right click to access the Context Menu. The user style script management section is also added into your Add-ons Management Window instead of being separate. When you reach the user style scripts homepage you can choose to either learn more about the extension & scripts or… Start hunting for lots of user style script goodness. There will be three convenient categories to get you jump-started if you wish. You could also conduct a search if you have something specific in mind. Here is some information directly from the website provided for your benefit. Notice the reference to using these scripts with Greasemonkey… This section shows you how the scripts have been categorized and can give you a better idea of how to search for something more specific. Finding & Installing Scripts For our example we decided to look at the Updated Styles Section”first. Based on the page number listing at the bottom there are a lot of scripts available to look through. Time to refine our search a little bit… Using the drop-down menu we selected site styles and entered Yahoo in the search blank. Needless to say 5 pages was a lot easier to look through than 828. We decided to install the Yahoo! Result Number Script. When you do find a script (or scripts) that you like simply click on the Install with Stylish Button. A small window will pop up giving you the opportunity to preview, proceed with the installation, edit the code, or cancel the process. Note: In our example the Preview Function did not work but it may be something particular to the script or our browser’s settings. If you decide to do some quick editing the window shown above will switch over to this one. To return to the previous window and install the user style script click on the Switch to Install Button. After installing the user style the green section in the script’s webpage will actually change to this message… Opening up the Add-ons Manager Window shows our new script ready to go. The script worked perfectly when we conducted a search at Yahoo…the Status Bar Icon also changed from faded out to full color (another indicator that everything is running nicely). Conclusion If you prefer a custom look for your favorite websites then you can have a lot of fun experimenting with different user style scripts. • Analysing Group & Individual Member Performance -RUP

  I am writing a report which requires the analysis of performance of each individual team member. This is for a software development project developed using the Unified Process (UP). I was just wondering if there are any existing group & individual appraisal metrics used so I don't have to reinvent the wheel... EDIT This is by no means correct but something like: Individual Contribution (IC) = time spent (individual) / time spent (total) = Performance = ? (should use individual contribution (IC) combined with something to gain a measure of overall performance).... Maybe I am talking complete hash and I know generally its really difficult to analyse performance with numbers but any mathematicians out there that can lend a hand or know a somewhat more accurate method of analysing performance than arbitrary marking (e.g. 8 out 10)

• Seek Steering Behavior with Target Direction for Group of Fighters

  I am implementing steering algorithms with group management for spaceships (fighters). I select a leader and assign the target positions for the other spaceships based on the target position of the leader and an offset. This works well. But when my spaceships arrive they all have a different direction. I want them to keep to look in the same direction (target - start). I also want to combine this behavior with a minimum turning radius that is based on the speed. The only idea I have is to calculate a path for each spaceship with an point before the target position, so the ships have some time left to turn into the right position. But I dont know if this is a good idea. I guess there will be a lot of rare cases where this can cause a problem. So the question is, if anybody knows how to solve this problem and has some (simple code) or pseudocode for me or at least some good explanation.

• Group "Discussion" software?

  My client wants a "lite" forum... not unlike these stack exchange sites, but even a little lighter. There's a screenshot of the discussion group she likes most, below. You can also go here to see it for yourself it you like. I don't think traditional forum apps will display, functionally, in this manner. Is there any software I can use to get a similar result? A web service would be acceptable as well.

• Drawing an outline around an arbitrary group of hexagons

  Is there an algorithm for drawing an outline around around an arbitrary group of hexagons? The polygon outline drawn may be concave. See the images below, the green line is what I am trying to achieve. The hexagons are stored as vertices and drawn as polygons. Edit: I've uploaded images that should explain more. I want to favour convex hulls because it's conveys an area of control more quickly. Each hexagon is stored in a multidimensional array so they all have x and y coordinates, I can easily find adjacent hexagons and the opposite vertex, i.e. adjacentHexagon = getAdjacentHexagon( someHexagon, NORTHWEST ) if there isn't a hexagon immediately adjacent it will continue to search in that direction until it finds one or hits the map edges.

• How to secure robots.txt file?

  I would like for User-agents to index my relative pages only without accessing any directory on my server. As initial thought, i had this version in mind: User-agent: * Disallow: */* Sitemap: http://www.mydomain.com/sitemap.xml My Questions: Is it correct to block all directories like that - Disallow: */*? Would still search engines be able to see and index my sitemap if i disallowed all directories? What are the best practices for securing the robots.txt file? • Group method parameter or individual parameter?

  I would like to ask on method parameters design consideration. I am usually deciding between using individual variables as parameters versus grouping them to a class or dictionary as one parameter. Is there such a rule when you should use individual parameter against using a class or a dictionary to group the parameter? Individual parameter - Straight forward, strongly typed Dictionary parameter - Very extensible, like HTTP request but cannot be strongly typed. Class parameter - Extensible by adding member to the class parameter, strongly typed. I am looking for a design reference on when to use which? Note: I am not sure if this question is valid in programmers but I definitely think it would be closed in stackoverflow, If it is still not valid, please point me to the proper page.

• username mapped to a different account

  I had 4 accounts on UBuntu 11.10. The /home folder is in a separate partition. Now, after I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2, I manually created the remaining 3 usernames so that it can use the existing home locations. However, after creating the users i found that the usernames have got mapped to the other home folders. For example user A got mapped to home folder of user B User B got mapped to home folder of user C User C got mapped to home folder of user A How do I change this so that the users get mapped to their correct account.

• Empathy auto accept group chat invite

  I'm using empathy 2.34.0 as chat client for account hosted on Google app (server talk.google.com). I'm happy with the features that empathy provides and integration with Google chat, however for group chat when the request is received I need to click on "join" button showed in popup to get started. This makes sense but I would to know if there is any way to automatically join the chat room without clicking the "join" button as I use it only with trusted uses. Besides the messages shared after the invite request and before my entry to chat room is not accessible to me. I looked around the empathy settings but couldn't find anything useful, wondering if I can get some help from here. Thanks.

• Permissions scheme not working

  I am currently building a home server and I am trying to give minimal permissions to every service. I am new to permissions management and this is an awesome learning experience for me :). drwxr----- 7 reazem enter-home 4096 Sep 9 21:43 reazem drwxrws--- 3 reazem minidlna 4096 Sep 9 21:36 media reazem is my home folder and media is my media folder, it is situated directly inside my home. The minidlna user is part of the following groups : minidlna, enter-home. I get the following error: Media directory not accessible! [/home/reazem/media] I was hoping that because the minidlna user is part of the enter-home group, it could get inside the home folder, and then inside the media folder because it is in the minidlna group. Where is my mistake? Edit: I found out that chmod g+x /home/reazem solved the problem, but why? Why would you need the execute permission to get inside another directory? Thank you!
