    I am trying to serialize my webmethod output (rename XML element with results), So far [return: System.Xml.Serialization.SoapElementAttribute("results")] before method declaration works fine with soap requests, but I am looking for something that would work the same way with HTTP POST/GET requests as well (right now I get return class name as element name)

  • Code reviews for larger ASP.NET MVC team using TFS

    I'm trying to find a good code review workflow for my team. Most questions similar to this on SO revolve around using shelved changes for the review, however I'm curious about how this works for people with larger teams. We usually have 2-3 people working a story (UI person, Domain/Repository person, sometimes DB person). I've recommended the shelf idea but we're all concerned about how to manage that with multiple people working the same feature. How could you share a shelf between multiple programmers at that point? We worry it would be clunky and we might easily have unintended consequences moving to this workflow. Of course moving to shelfs for each feature avoids having 10 or so checkins per feature (as developers need to share code) making seeing the diffs at code review time painful. Has anyone else been able to successfully deal with this? Are there any tools out there people have found useful aside from shelfs in TFS (preferably open-source)?

    i have 1 master page with 5 pages that call it. now on the master page, I have few dropdowns and textboxes, and the calling pages only have a small article in the corner. I want to start a session on page_load event, so that if the user chooses to select a dropdown or put data in textbox, even if he clicks on the other 4 links of other pages, the data should stay. how can this be done?

  • Using multiple databases within one application (ASP.NET MVC, LINQ to SQL)

    I have a web application made for several groups of people not connected with each other. Instead of using one database for all of them, I'm thinking about making separate databases. This will improve the speed of the queries and make me free from checking to what group the user belongs. But since I'm working with LINQ to SQL, my classes are explicitly connected with the databases, so I will have to make separate DataContexts for all of the databases. So how can I solve this problem? Or should I just not bother and use one database only?

    i have a lang table which is as a foreign key in the link table , The link can be in 3 languages meaning there will be 3 rows in the link table everytime i enter the record. i am using jquery tabs to enter the records in 3 languages . ok so what architecture i should follow for validation with datannotation attributes. i am using link to sql with 2010 vs. i will be creating link class with MetadataType so how will i handle for eg link name attribute 3 times.

  • Making a button click and process using javascript with Asp.Net

    I'm having two buttons and one button is hidden. Now when I click the visible button I need to do two things 1.Open Iframe. 2.Automatically make the 2nd Button(Hidden)to be clicked. When the second button is clicked I need to display the message on top of the IFrame which I have mentioned as function showStickySuccessToast() Now I am able to open IFrame but I'm unable to make the Hidden button clicked automatically.   • Safari - showing expired .NET Page

    We have a strange problem in Safari. When the user logs out of our Web Application we expire the forms authentication with the following FormsAuthentication.SignOut(); Session.Abandon(); This works fine in IE and Firefox (when the user hits the back button they are presented with a page expired message and are forced to login) but in Safari the last page the user was working on shows up. I tried many of the suggested thinks like setting the Response.Expires but nothing helps , Has anyone faced this problem ? Do u have any suggestion / workarounds ? Thanks

    Seems like a straitforward question but I can't quite figure it out myself... I have an actionlink like so Html.ActionLink( "Test", "test", new { q = "search+twitter" } ) This produces a url string as follows http://myserver/test?q=search%2Btwitter But i would like to preserve the plus sign (which i assume is being UrlPathEncoded) so that I get the following url http://myserver/test?q=search+twitter Is there an easy way to do this whilst still using Html.ActionLink ?

    I follow this rule but some of my colleagues disagree with it and argue that if a class is smaller it can be left in the same file with other class(es). Another argument I hear all the time is "Even Microsoft don't do this, so why should we?" What's the general consensus on this? Are there cases where this should be avoided?

    Update: There was actually a hidden panel with validator in the user control that was causing page not to be valid on the first postback. Consider this issue resolved. This is first time I am using this control and it is behaving rather strange. I have to click on the "Next" button twice for it to move to the next step. I tried explicitly setting active index, using MoveTo etc. Nothing works. Here is the markup for the control.     I have looked all over the web and I can not find the information I am looking for and I was hoping that someone could give me a hand. Specifically, I am looking for a comprehensive list of what events occur in the page and control life cycles and what is "available" in each event. Like when can I get a dropdownlists selected value, when can i databind, when can I get at values in view state and what not. Can anyone point me to a comprehensive list for both page and control life cycles? Or even provide that information for me? Thanks in advance.
