  • How to update SQL Server database from multiple data sources for ASP.Net MVC 4 application

    I have 10+ SQL Server databases, from where I would use one table from each database to display information using the application that I am creating. For instance, DB1, DB2....DB10. NewDB (Account, Country, Costcenter....etc.). I have started with creating a new database which would contain all the information from all those 10+ databases. However, I am confused in many cases. First of all what process should I follow? Shall I create a table (in new database) with the same structure as the actual data source and insert data from actual data source to new database? Should I be doing this on the DBMS? If so, is it some scripting? (hint expected since very new to this) I am creating a report generation application which has 10+ data sources. I need some hint which way should I proceed? Thanks for advice/help in advance.

  • Extremely Difficult Problem with ASP.Net 4.0 WebForms app using Routing

    I have a completed app running in a QA environment. Everything works fine under most circumstances. If you hit a plain URL (no identifying information in the URL), you see an intro page with a button (generated by an asp LinkButton control) that posts back and directs you to another page. The markup looks the same when it fails and when it doesn't. When such a URL is followed from, e.g., Word and the default browser is IE, the intro page loads fine, but clicking the button causes an error. When not debugging, this behavior occurs every time. While debugging, the error occurs only ~ 1 in 10 times (closing the browser instance and starting over every time). When the error occurs, the intro page Page_Load fires and IsPostBack is false. Somehow, instead of a post, a get is being issued. When I run fiddler to try to analyze the actual calls (can't use firebug because it never happens using Firefox), everything works every time. I don't know whether this issue has anything to do with routing, and I've no idea even what to look at next. The strange thing is, when I debug, the intro page doesn't fully load every time. Only about 1 in 3 times does it fully load even if I've just cleared browser cache. When I run it through fiddler, it fully loads and works fine every time.

  • ASP.net MVC support for URL's with hyphens

    Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

  • Stepping through ASP.NET MVC in Action (2009) - and stuck on nunit issue

    I seem to have missed something - in this step through it talks through downloading nunit and changing the original MSTest reference to NUnit. Which seems fine until it talks about running the test with UnitRun from JetBrains. I would have thought I could run nUnit to be able to run the test - but I load my project in the nUnit gui and I get "This assembly was not built with any known testing framework". This after running the Nunit-2.5.3.9346.msi. Or am I supposed to be able to run tests from within visual studio 2008? After some research I find this: http://www.jetbrains.com/unitrun/ (ie. it seems to be saying this is no longer supported and I'm thinking JetBrains Resharper may cost money?). I'm a little rusty on my NUnit experience. So how do I go ahead and run my test? Is the error message I'm getting considered abnormal? I've added a reference in my MvcApplication.Tests project to the nunit.framework. Is this the wrong reference to add? Thanks :)

    I use a GridView to display the records from the database. Also i've attached a Hyperlink to the GridView using TemplateField. When I try to add "onclick" attribute to the HyperLink inside the RowDateBound event, I get the following error.. GridView1.DataKeys[e.Row.RowIndex].Value = 'GridView1.DataKeys[e.Row.RowIndex]' threw an exception of type 'System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException' Message = "Index was out of range.     Following is the code to populate combobox using DataSource Dim CountryList As Array = MyCtrl.GetAllCountries With cbCountyList .DataSource = CountryList .DisplayMember = "CountryName" .ValueMember = "CountryID" End With After adding a new COuntry Name to Database I want to reflect the changes in combobox. Repeating this code is not an option becasue it triggers SelectIndexChange event and had to do some crappy work around to avoid that. So I was wondering if there is way to refresh the combobox list. I actually thought binding with the DataSource property supposed to do it automatically. I also tried cbCountyList.Refresh() Thanks in advance.

    In my Global.asax.cs, I have: routes.MapRoute("AssetCss", "css/{*path}", new { controller = "Asset", action = "Index" }); I also have this in a view: <link href="/css/Root/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> The problem is that the AssetController does not invoke Index when /css/Root/index.css is requested. This is because a file actually exists at the path /css/Root/index.css. If I recall correctly, there's a checkbox setting in IIS that basically says "Do not check that a file actually exists at the request path [instead, let the RouteTable handle it]." (At least there is in IIS 6.) Is there something I can put in my Web.config that sets this IIS setting to true? How do I tell IIS to let my MVC routes handle the path even if a file exists at the path?

    If a variable is at class level (ie, private MyDataAccessClass _dataAccess;, can it be used as part of a using statement within the methods of that class to dispose of it correctly? Is it wise to use this method, or is it better to always declare a new variable with a using statement (ie, using (MyDataAccessClass dataAccess = new MyDataAccessClass()) instead of using (_dataAccess = new MyDataAccessClass()))?

    Looking for a custom tooltip (typical yellow baloon callout) on click of an anchor tag. The tooltip should appear and remain in view until the cross button on the tooltip is clicked. Just looking for a tried and tested open source solution. Tried googling this but most of the tooltip [...missing info?...] Ajax control toolkit has the calloutvalidator which seems like a good choice but is tied up to be used for validation tooltips.

  • Creating a process in ASP.NET MVC controller

    I have a requirement to run an application through my MVC controller. To get the installation path I used following link (I used answer provided by Fredrik Mörk). It worked and I could able to run the exe through a process. The problem occurred when I deployed this solution on IIS where it did not create the process as it was creating in local dev environment. The image is stored in /Content/img folder... What am I doing wrong?

  • Handling row selection from a simple grid using jquery and asp.net mvc

    Using a simple table and jquery, how would you manually handle selection using jquery? So far, I've managed to add a gridrowselected class on the tr when the click event is called so that I'll know which row is currently selected. But I don't know how to pass the selected data back to the controller (or at least an index I placed on the row).     I'm using EO Ajax toolkits for upload files, the file is uploaded to server. when user click save then it will update the database for what been uploaded or changed. Now i need a clean up process that when user uploaded a file to server, but then close his/her browser before click the save button. in this case how should i programe so that the file user just uploaded is deleted, because it's now useless and not assosiated with any database. thanks. maybe i should upload all files to a temp folder, only when user click saver the file can be moved to target folder, at each session end the temp folder is get deleted.
