  • Internationalizing a Python 2.6 application via Babel

    We're evaluating Babel 0.9.5 [1] under Windows for use with Python 2.6 and have the following questions that we we've been unable to answer through reading the documentation or googling. 1) I would like to use an _ like abbreviation for ungettext. Is there a concencus on whether one should use n_ or N_ for this? n_ does not appear to work. Babel does not extract text. N_ appears to partially work. Babel extracts text like it does for gettext, but does not format for ngettext (missing plural argument and msgstr[ n ].) 2) Is there a way to set the initial msgstr fields like the following when creating a POT file? I suspect there may be a way to do this via Babel cfg files, but I've been unable to find documentation on the Babel cfg file format. "Project-Id-Version: PROJECT VERSION\n" "Language-Team: en_US \n" 3) Is there a way to preserve 'obsolete' msgid/msgstr's in our PO files?   • Can someone please debug this Windows Azure Application?

    Here's the myTODO project from codeplex: myTODO project I added any necessary libraries, added storage, changed obsolete types/methods, but everything went wrong when I debug it.   • Is there a safe / standard way to manage unstructured memory in C++?

    I'm building a toy VM that requires a block of memory for storing and accessing data elements of different types and of different sizes. I've done this by writing a wrapper class around a uint8_t[] data block of the needed size. That class has some template methods to write / read typed data elements to / from arbitrary locations in the memory block, both of which check to make certain the bounds aren't violated. These methods use memmove in what I hope is a more or less safe manner. That said, while I am willing to press on in this direction, I've got to believe that other with more expertise have been here before and might be willing to share their wisdom. In particular: 1) Is there a class in one of the C++ standards (past, present, future) that has been defined to perform a function similar to what I have outlined above? 2) If not, is there a (preferably free as in beer) library out there that does? 3) Short of that, besides bounds checking and the inevitable issue of writing one type to a memory location and reading a different from that location, are there other issues I should be aware of?   • Display Computer Info on C# Web Application

    I want to build a page for end users to visit (in our MPLS Network) and it show the following information in regards to them: Computer Name OS Disk Space Memory IP Address Active Directory User Name Password Expiration Time (As defined by Global Policy) Maybe a few other things such as Trend Micro Office current version vs. their version, # of MS Updates needed (we utilize WSUS), and a few other things in the future. My question is how would I pull this information from the user when they visit the page? What is the proper function for this? Anyone have examples they wish to share for me to learn by if possible?   • Cannot run unit tests for an application developed with Compact Framework for Windows CE 6.0 platfor

    I'm developing a solution for Windows CE 6.0 using GuD_AtomKit X86 Device emulator. I'm not able to run any unit tests, because I get following error message: The test adapter ('Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.TestTypes.Unit.UnitTestAdapter, Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.Tips.UnitTest.Adapter, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a') required to execute this test could not be loaded. Check that the test adapter is installed properly. Exception of type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.SmartDevice.TestHostAdapter.DeviceAgent.TestAlreadyRunningException' was thrown. But there's no unit test running on the device. I would really appreciate your help.

    suppose I need to allocate and delete object on heap frequently (of arbitrary size), is there any performance benefit if instead of deleting those objects, I will return it back to some "pool" to be reused later? would it give benefit by reduce heap allocation/deallocation?, or it will be slower compared to memory allocator performance, since the "pool" need to manage a dynamic collection of pointers. my use case: suppose I create a queue container based on linked list, and each node of that list are allocated on the heap, so every call to push() and pop() will allocate and deallocate that node: ` template <typename T> struct QueueNode { QueueNode<T>* next; T object; } template <typename T> class Queue { void push(T object) { QueueNode<T>* newNode = QueueNodePool<T>::get(); //get recycled node if(!newNode) { newNode = new QueueNode<T>(object); } // push newNode routine here.. } T pop() { //pop routine here... To understand my question, First of all please see both of these destructors. - (void)dealloc { [Marketdetails release]; Marketdetails=nil; [parsedarray release]; parsedarray=nil; [Marketid release]; Marketid=nil; [marketname release]; marketname=nil; [super dealloc]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; [Marketdetails release]; Marketdetails=nil; [parsedarray release]; parsedarray=nil; [Marketid release]; Marketid=nil; [marketname release]; marketname=nil; } See, Both destructors have different code. In First Destructor first current class objects are released & then [super dealloc] is called. In second Desctructor first [super dealloc] is called. My question is as follows. Where should we write [super dealloc] ? first or last ? or it doesn't matter ?

  • Garbage collection - manually wiping EVERYTHING!

    I have been building a game for a while (nearly done) - But the game needs a replay button and its a big task. I know the GC is dreadful in flash, but I wanted to know if there is a way to wipe EVERYTHING as if the flash app has just begun. Clearing memory, game data - I haven't to worry about game loading as its not really heavy on data. Everything pretty much lives in a DataModel - but I fear if I just clear the all variables, I'll have pockets of orphaned memory. Any forwarding idea would be great. cheers guys.

    I have a website which useses a mysql database for its whole operation . But for a new requirement i need to query a external oracle database( used by other component) and compile a list of items and display in a page in the website. How is it possible to connect to a external database just for rendering a single page. And is it possible to cache the queried result for say 1 month before invalidating the cache and get the updated list of items. i dont want query the external oracle db for each request.

    Hello, This question has been asked multiple times I know. From what I understand, broadly speaking, if I include a GPL module in my app, I have to also release my app's source code for free. Now if the module is a java app (which I have modified) and included in my own java app, and say I use it as an applet on my website, do I need to distribute the source code to all the users visiting the website? Can I distribute the code only to people who ask for it? If I sell my applet, do I need to distribute the source code to all the users or ONLY to the users who purchase my applet?   • APplication performance issue : SqlServer & Oracle

    Hi, We have a applicaiton in Silverlight,WCF, NHibernate. Currently it is supporting SQL Serve and Oracle database. As it's huge data, it is running ok on SQL Sevrer. But on Oracle it is running very slow. For one functionality it takes 5 Sec to execute on SQL Server and 30 Sec on Oracle. I am not able to figure out what will be issue. Two things that i want to share with you about our database. 1) Database: contains one base table contains column of type SQLServer: [Text] Oracle: [NCLOB] 2) Our database structure is too much normalized. May be in the oracle i have used NCLOB, that is the cause of the performance. I mean i don't know the details about it.... Can anyone please let me know what will be cause? Or Which actions do i need to follw to improve the performance as equal as SqlServer.? Thanks in advance. Mahesh.

  • How to determine the size of a project (lines of code, function points, other)

    How would you evaluate project size? Part A: Before you start a project. Part B: For a complete project. I am interested in comparing unrelated projects. Here are some options: 1) Lines of code. I know that this is not a good metric of productivity but is this a reasonable measure of project size? If I wanted to estimate how long it would take to recreate a project would this be a reasonable way to do it? How many lines of code should I estimate a day? 2) Function Points. Functions points are defined as the number of: inputs outputs inquires internal files external interfaces Anyone have a veiw point on whether this is a good measure? Is there a way to **actually do this? Does anyone have another solution? Hours taken seems like it could be a useful metric but not solely. If I ask you what is a "bigger program" and give you two programs how would you approach the question? I have seen several discussions of this on stackover flow but most discuss how to measure programmer productivity. I am more interested in project size.

  • Java Runtime.freeMemory() returning bizarre results when adding more objects

    For whatever reason, I wanted to see how many objects I could create and populate a LinkedList with. I used Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory() to get the approximation of free memory in my JVM. You would think the more objects (to which we have references, so can't be gc'ed), the less free memory. Running the code: Max memory: 1897725952.
