• How can I open another tab in the browser from the Code Behind [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: Response.Redirect to new window 18 answers I have an ASP.Net project that I am working on that involves opening another tab in the browser from the vb.net (code behind). I have tried to use the WebBrowser control to open the new tab as well as tried to use the Script manager however I have not been able to open the new tab. Instead i want that the function will get a directory for example c:\ And it will return me a List of all directories in c:\ Not subsirectories just the directories in c:\ in my case it should be a List with a 14 directories. Meaning in each index in the List a directory. How can i do it ? Tried with Directory and DirectoryInfo but i just got messed up.

• Best way of invoking getter by reflection

  Hello, I need to get the value of a field with a specific annotation, So with reflection I am able to get this Field Object. The problem is that this field will be always private though I know in advance it will always have a getter method. I know that I can use setAccesible(true) and get its value (when there is no PermissionManager), though I prefer to invoke its getter method. I know that I could look for the method by looking for "get+fieldName" (though I know for example for boolean fields are sometimes named as "is+fieldName"). I wonder if there is a better way to invoke this getter (many frameworks use getters/setters to access the attributes so maybe they do in another way). Thanks

  I have a listbox where I want to copy and paste items within that listbox. Copy and paste works fine but everytime I press "Crtl + C" the item starting with the letter C is automatically selected. Also, i feel the code is more readable since i am placing everything in a function block (so in oop-speak, all attributes and methods are in one place). Do you see any issues with the code above? Any pitfalls of using this pattern if i need to create lots of classes in a big project?

  On the internet I see a lot of code which uses this. to access local members of a class, like this: private String _whatever; public String Whatever { get { return this._whatever; } set { this._whatever = value; } } public void DoSomething() { String s = this.Whatever; this.DoSomething(); } (don't expect the code to do something sensible. I just wanted to show a few different uses for "this.") I wonder why to do this? To add more clarity to the source? Or is it just a waste of space?

• Putting logic in ViewModel get'ers

  What do you think about putting Get-logic in the getters of a ViewModel? I find my controllers getting really bloated by doing all the get-logic there, but I'm really torn as to where I should put it... My reason for doing it this way, is that I can pass the ViewModel to different types of view, and only the neccessary DB-lookup will be performed based on what property is requested.

• Dictionary as parameter, where the Value-Type is irrelevant

  Hi folks, I have a function, that returns the next higher value of a Dictionary-Keys-List compared to a given value. If we have a Key-List of {1, 4, 10, 24} and a given value of 8, the function would return 10. Obviously the type of the Value-Part of the Dictionary doesn't matter for the function, the function-code for a Dictionary<int, int> and Dictionary<int, myClass> would be the same. How has the method-head have to look like, when I want to call the function with any Dictionary, that has int as key-Type and the value-Type is irrelevant? I tried: private int GetClosedKey(Dictionary<int, object> list, int theValue); but it says that there are illegal arguments, when I call it with a Dictionary. I don't want to copy'n'paste the function for each different value-type that my function may be called. Any idea, how to accomplish that? Thanks in advance, Frank

  I've run into something odd in a .NET CF 2.0 project for Pocket PC 2003 (Visual Studio 2005). I was dealing with a System.IO.Stream object and found that the IDE wouldn't auto-complete the Dispose() method. I typed it in manually and received: 'System.IO.Stream.Dispose(bool)' is inaccessible due to its protection level The error is referring to the protected Dispose(bool) method. Dispose() is either private or not present. Question 1: How is this possible? Stream implements IDisposable: public abstract class Stream : MarshalByRefObject, IDisposable ... and IDisposable requires a Dispose() method: public interface IDisposable { void Dispose(); } I know the compiler won't let me get away with that in my code. Question 2: Will I cause problems by working around and disposing my streams directly? IDisposable idisp = someStream; idisp.Dispose(); The implicit cast is accepted by the compiler.

  Hallo all Is it possible to persist a generic field? I have this property on an Entity class ... private T payload; ... T extends EventMessagePayload and public interface StringPayload extends EventMessagePayload{ String getPayload(); } In my application i persist the field only when is of String type and during the save operation all works great. When I read the object instead JPA try to create a String object but instead is a StringPaylod. Is there a way to intercept the creation and handle the object marshalling? Kind regards Massimo

• I set a global bug catcher in my application for unhandled exceptions and it is picking up all exceptions

  I am trying to figure out why this is happing. In my vb.net application I set a global handler in the ApplicationEvents.vb which I thought would only pick up any unhandled exceptions, although it is picking up every exception that happens in my application whether or not they are handled with try catch blocks.
