  Hi, I just started using GIT for my versioning and I want to program some tools that work on top of it. Here is my question: Which information in the .git/config is shared to a remote repo? Is any? Is there a special way to push information to that repo? The reason I am asking is that I would like to add a "unique stamp" to the config of a repo. Also the remote repo and everybody pulling that project should have the stamp. Is that possible? If not, is there any other way to identify a repository? Having a .git folder, I want to decide whether this git repo is the same as a previously specified remote repo (the same means created by pulling the remote repo, changes are okay, of course).

• Program Terminates On File Move

  I have a .Net program that, as one of its functions, takes a file from a user-specified directory and puts it in another, special, directory, specified via UNC (which may or may not be local). I don't open any of these files in this part of the code. There's this bizarre bug I'm having where, on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 VM, this program randomly does a hard abort while doing the move to a local folder. It just terminates. No exception, no logging, and it doesn't appear to happen at any particular moment. I can't reproduce this problem on my development machine, and it only appears to happen during the copy of a particular kind of file that's about a megabyte or so. There are other formats copied to different directories using very similar code, all smaller, and they work fine. Why would a Windows .Net program do a hard abort like this? What can I do to fix it?

• iOS AS3 AIR local storage

  I am developing an app which requires a SQL DB on the device. I am using the File.applicationStorageDirectory and folder.resolvePath to add a new DB. When debugging the app it all looks like it executes correctly and I am able to successfully create a new table. I haven't gone too far with inserting and reading records however I just wanted to ask, when I re-run the app does the existing DB file get replaced with a new empty one? If so do I need to check if the file exists etc. How can I look at the DB on the device (iOS at this stage)? Thanks

• .NET security mechanism to restrict access between two Types in the same Website project?

  Question: Is there a mechanism in the .NET Framework to hide one custom Type from another without using separate projects/assemblies? I'm using C# with ASP.NET in a Website project (Note: Not a Web Application). Obviously there's not a way to enforce this restriction using language-specific OO keywords so I am looking for something else, for example: maybe a permission framework or code access mechanism, maybe something that uses meta data like Attributes. I'm unsure. I don't really care whether the solution actually hides classes from each other or just makes them inaccessible, etc. A runtime or design time answer will suffice. Looking for something easy to implement otherwise it's not worth the effort ... Background: I'm working in an ASP.NET Website project and the team has decided not to use separate project assemblies for different software layers. Therefore I'm looking for a way to have, for example, a DataAccess/ folder of which I disallow its classes to access other Types in the ASP.NET Website project.

• How can I use git for a framework and for a project using that framework while keeping the project s

  We are developing a web application and the framework under it. I would like to be able to use the framework for other projects and I am even considering making the framework open source. Right now each developer has 2 separate folders, one for each. I then have a 3rd folder with symlinks to the files in the to git project folders. This works but we have pull both the framework and the app and if they get out of sync nothing works. We are going to be starting the second app using the framework soon. Is there a better way to do this?

  Hi, I have a confirmation message box for the user in one of my apps. Below is the code for that, MessageBoxResult res= System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Could not find the folder, so the D: Drive will be opened instead."); if (res == MessageBoxResult.OK) { MessageBox.Show("OK"); } else { MessageBox.Show("Do Nothing"); } Now, when the user clicks on the OK button, I want certain code to execute but when they click on the red cross at the upper right corner, I just want the messagebox to close without doing anything. In my case I get 'OK' displayed even when I click on the red cross icon at the upper right corner. Is there a way I can have 'Do Nothing' displayed when I click on the cross. I not want to add any more buttons.

  Hi All, I have a folder structure, as shown below: I need to create a bash script that does 4 things: It searches all the files in the generic directory and finds the string 'generic' and makes it into 'something' As above, but changes "GENERIC" to "SOMETHING" As above, but changes "Generic" to "Something" Renames any filename that has "generic" in it with "something" Right now I am doing this process manually by using the search and replace in net beans. I dont know much about bash scripting, but i'm sure this can be done. I'm thinking of something that I would run and it would take "Something" as the input. • Reading line by line from a file in C

  What I am trying to do is print out the contents of a file line by line. I run the program in terminal by doing: ./test testText.txt. When I do this, random characters are printed out but not what is in the file. The text file is located in the same folder as the makefile. • Find hosted directories Jetty/Apache

  Hi, Let say I have a directory which is being hosted by Jetty or Apache (i'd like an answer for both), i know the URL including the port and i can log into the server. How can i find the directory that is being hosted by a certain port? I'd also like to go the other way, i have a folder on the server, which i know if being hosted, but i don't know the port so i can't find it in a web browser. How can i find a list of directories that are being hosted? This has been bugging me for ages but i've never bothered to ask before! Thanks.

• How to make shell output redirect (>) write while script is still running?

  I wrote a short script that never terminates. This script continuously generates output that I have to check on every now and then. I'm running it on a lab computer through SSH, and redirecting the output to a file in my public_html folder on that machine. python script.py > ~/public_html/results.txt However, the results don't show up immediately when I refresh the address. The results show up when I terminate the program, but as I said, it doesn't halt by itself. Is that redirect (>) being lazy with with writing? Is there a way to continuously (or with an interval) update the results in the file? Or is it the webserver that doesn't update the file while it is still being written?

• Rsync module path needs to be a home directory

  I'm trying to use rsync to backup windows servers to an rsync server. I'm having problems with rsync on the linux side though, it doesn't like symlinks. Currently I'm trying to use the module path of ~/backup, but rsync says that the chroot failed. I looked up what to do and saw that I needed to add the option use chroot = no and munge symlinks = no. That fixed the @ERROR: chroot failed but now it's telling me @ERROR: chdir failed and the log files say that there is no ~/backup directory. I know the user I'm authenticating with has a backup folder in his directory. How can I fix this? For reference I'm using a .NET port of rsync called NetSync and tunneling it over a port forwarded SSH connection generated with granados.

• How to give friend access to git repository without giving command line access?

  I have some git repositories running on my server and I would like to give a friend read/write access to one. That's simple: I add him as a user, give him SSH access, and change the permissions to the repository folder. Everything works fine; I'm able to clone the git repository using Xcode and change things (ssh://www.example.com/repo.git). However, I do not want him to have command line access. If I recall correctly, Github does not give command line access to those who SSH in. I'm using Snow Leopard Server. Is this more of a server issue or a git issue? Do you have any idea where to begin? Setting the user's Login Shell to none (as opposed to /bin/bash) cuts off access to everything.

  I am in the process of learning xhtml/html5/PHP, and I have grasped the majority of the concepts of these languages. What I do not understand is if I have multiple pages in xhtml such as home(index)html, about.html, blog.html, etc., do I need to convert all of those pages to php files? I've downloaded a few templates from the web to look at the php files, but in the template folder there is no individual files for the menu categories, just the usual .php files for created a wp theme. Why is this?

• Xenserver 5.5 U2 a bit unstable with an unstable W2003 VM

  In the last week I had to reboot the host system twice and the second one by means of the power button. The system is a Dell PE 6950 (4 Opteron dual core, 2,8 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 900 GB disk in a RAID 10 array composed by 4 450GB 15000 rpm disks) with XenServer 5.5 U2. We're installing it and at now there are working in production a 2003 32 bit Windows server VM with 2 GB RAM, 3 vcpu and about 200 GB disk in 4 partition (12 GB boot, 20 GB program, 80 GB user data, 80 GB other data). The first time I was compressing many Windows 2003 folders (some tens GB by means of W2003 compressed folder option) from a Windows remote console and some hours before my colleague installed Backup Exec agent that was alredy installed and that required a reboot (that was pending). The console stopped responding, it was no more possible to connect by means of remote console or by means of the console of the XenCentre, it was still possible from the network to use the shared folder of the VM and the programs on it (2 db and a GIS program), but the print server didn't work any more and I couldn't give remote reboot from other domain controller hosts. I couldn't stop the virtual machine neither from the XenCentre, neither from the command line of the host also forcing the reboot. I had to reboot the host server. Yesterday it has been worst. I installed a template of another VM, CentOS 5.3 and then, put the DVD in the drive of the host. Then, before the install and after the boot I checked for defect the DVD and the W2003 VM began to respond slowly (I was connected by means of an administration remote console) the task manager showed only mid or low load, it is, only the first of the 3 vcpu was loaded (about 70%), while the other two were about at 20% and also the disk I/O was not so heavy. Then the users were not so happy because they couldn't any more use the MS word docs on the server. I immediately stopped the check of the DVD (to do that I had to force the stop of such Centos 5.3 VM), then some users could again use their docs, but other had still problems, so I decided to reboot the VM, but it doesn't stopped, neither from XenCenter, neither from command line, neither forcing the reboot. Then I tried to reboot of the host, but it didn't worked, neither from the XenCentre, neither from the host prompt (shutdown -r now as root: it told that it was shutting down, but then it didn't did that). So I had to power off by means of the power button of the server (before I tried some Magic SyS REQ, but I saw that Xen isn't compiled with this option enabled). What could you suggest about my problem, what can I look, search and see? In the W2003 VM logs there are no errors or warning to explain what happened.   I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 and I am using it to host a domain that I have. I am trying to set up FTP for the server, but I am running into some problems. I have successfully installed vsFTPd and I have opened up ports 20, 21 on my firewall. In my vsFTPd configuration, I have enabled SSL. Every time I try to connect to my server via FTP, I receive a "Connection Refused" error. I have had a little more success with SSL disabled, however the connection process will time out after the LIST command (but it does accept my authentication).   Have Ubuntu 11.10 with vsftpd installed and working. Can not get virtual users setup at all? Vsftpd will allow main Ubuntu owner account to login, but nothing else? I've followed several tutorials on adding virtual users, but nothing works? I just need to add 2 virtual users and have them be able to upload files to vsftpd Ubuntu computer from other computers on my Lan network. • Mandatory profile on Terminal server fails to load. Userenv.log debug

  Hi, We're having a lot of corrupted profiles lately on our profile share. At the moment I have no clue why, but I decided to switch to one mandatory profile since the users can all use the same and there is no need to have seperate profiles for each user. Here's what I did. I logged into the Terminal server with a new user and configured some stuff (imported certificates and a few files). Then I logged out. Later as admin I copied the profile to another server and renamed it to bsilo. I made sure the user hive settings were adjusted. Everyone had access to the hive. I shared the bsilo folder with full access for everyone. I set the NTFS permissions to read, read & execute, list folder contents for domain users. I also renamed NTUSER.DAT to NTUSER.MAN. Now I set a env variable %manprofile% on the Terminal server that points to \server\bsilo\ntuser.man I set the env var as terminal services profile path for a test user. When I log in I as the user get the following output The system cannot find the path specified. Can somebody point me in the right direction. • Finding a Relative Path in .NET

  Here’s a nice and simple path utility that I’ve needed in a number of applications: I need to find a relative path based on a base path. So if I’m working in a folder called c:\temp\templates\ and I want to find a relative path for c:\temp\templates\subdir\test.txt I want to receive back subdir\test.txt. Or if I pass c:\ I want to get back ..\..\ – in other words always return a non-hardcoded path based on some other known directory. I’ve had a routine in my library that does this via some lengthy string parsing routines, but ran into some Uri processing today that made me realize that this code could be greatly simplified by using the System.Uri class instead. Here’s the simple static method: /// <summary> /// Returns a relative path string from a full path based on a base path /// provided. /// </summary> /// <param name="fullPath">The path to convert. Right now I’m working on a templating solution (using the Razor Engine) where templates live in a base directory and are supplied as relative paths to that base directory. Resolving these relative paths both ways is important in order to properly check for existance of files and their change status in this case. • SQL SERVER – World Shapefile Download and Upload to Database – Spatial Database

  During my recent, training I was asked by a student if I know a place where he can download spatial files for all the countries around the world, as well as if there is a way to upload shape files to a database. Here is a quick tutorial for it. VDS Technologies has all the spatial files for every location for free. You can download the spatial file from here. If you cannot find the spatial file you are looking for, please leave a comment here, and I will send you the necessary details. Unzip the file to a folder and it will have the following content. Then, download Shape2SQL tool from SharpGIS. This is one of the best tools available to convert shapefiles to SQL tables. Afterwards, run the .exe file. When the file is run for the first time, it will ask for the database properties. Provide your database details. Select the appropriate shape files and the tool will fill up the essential details automatically. If you do not want to create the index on the column, uncheck the box beside it. The screenshot below is simply explains the procedure. You also have to be careful regarding your data, whether that is GEOMETRY or GEOGRAPHY. In this example,  it is GEOMETRY data. Click “Upload to Database”. It will show you the uploading process. Once the shape file is uploaded, close the application and open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). Run the following code in SSMS Query Editor. USE Spatial GO SELECT * FROM dbo.world GO This will show the complete map of world after you click on Spatial Results in Spatial Tab. In Spatial Results Set, the Zoom feature is available. From the Select label column, choose the country name in order to show the country name overlaying the country borders. Let me know if this tutorial is helpful enough. I am planning to write a few more posts about this later. Note: Please note that the images displayed here do not reflect the original political boundaries. These data are pretty old and can probably draw incorrect maps as well. I have personally spotted several parts of the map where some countries are located a little bit inaccurately.
